@luckypenny: oh no, I hope you feel better soon!

My mom and bff have set a date for my baby shower in late February....crazy how fast things are moving along!

@PEAPIE: @megz06: @nana87: thanks ladies! I think it was just a 24 hour bug. Fever broke while I was sleeping but man, it was pretty embarrassing puking in public. It also happens to be the busiest Starbucks in town with a line out the door. Ugh.

@nana87: eek! How exciting!! Baby showers are a ton of fun. What are you going to wear?!

My two mom friends just told me they are throwing me a Sprinkle! I totally wasn't expecting anything and we really do have everything from DD but it will be really special to celebrate this little baby too

@luckypenny: glad you're feeling better, and oooh I feel you on puking in public, I never had before, but I'm embarrassed to admit how many times it's happened during this pregnancy!

And yay for your Sprinkle! That's so fun! I'm not sure about what to wear for my shower, I have a really pretty dress I bought recently when I was in the UK from a little boutique there that I've been wearing to holiday parties, but I don't know if it will still be "special" enough by Feb, haha. I think it will be though! It's navy chiffon with white polka dots, I'm wearing it tonight for the second time and love it

@nana87: that's so exciting! And SOON!

@luckypenny: a sprinkle will be so fun!

I don't think we're going to have a shower, though I'm not 100% sure about that. If anything, maybe we'll do a party after the baby is born? I just don't know what to do about it.

  8. luckypenny

    grapefruit / 4582 posts

@LovelyPlum: awww really? Is it because you don't want a shower or has no one offered to throw you one or some other reason?

  9. megz06

    apricot / 335 posts

@nana87: Sounds cute, and if you love it I would definitely wear it to your shower!

Yay for showers... It's like an "Always a bridesmaid, never a bride" kind of thing for me! I've been to a MILLION in the last few years. But I think the best part will be getting all my random friends together in the same place at once! Looking forward to it!

Would I be a total debbie downer if I declared a NO CHEESY GAMES mandate for my shower. I doubt any of my guests would walk away thinking, "Damn, I really wish we would have played 'Guess the Melted Candy Bar in the Diaper Game' for the 4,000th time." I am getting embarrassingly good at that game. Haha!

At my shower, I just want to eat a lot. Maybe do a fun onesie craft or something.

@PEAPIE: that keeps happening to us too! DH has felt our Bean once and seen him/her a couple times, but every time he goes to put his hand on my stomach... nothing. I feel so bad

@SupernovaJ: @luckypenny: I'm telling you, Colace changed my life. I just to one 50 mg tab at bedtime. I tried to stop for a few days and bad news bears... Doc says it is totally fine to continue through pregnancy.

@BabyBoecksMom: I'm on both boards too

@luckypenny: glad you're feeling better. Ugh,, I can't even imagine being super sick right now. I"m so paranoid that I'm going to catch something and then have to use my precious sick days!

We put up our Christmas tree and decorations this weekend too. Really fun to have a full sized tree in our new house Although it tuckered me out and I ended up with a 1+ hour nap! That could also be linked to this week's 4am wakeups and not being able to go back to sleep. Boo. I'm hoping it was just anticipation of the storms/snow days and not being able to get out and exercise.

  13. LovelyPlum

    eggplant / 11408 posts

@luckypenny: mostly because I don't want one. Or rather, I really don't like a lot about them. I really don't like the idea of one baby getting celebrated, and the others not, but that's how it is around here. Plus, if I'm really honest, showers in my family are never really all that fun. They're more an opportunity for pettiness, and they're usually boring as all get-out . I know not all showers are like that, but it's been my experience with a lot of them.

Sigh. I don't know what to do. And it doesn't help that my family is in one place, DH's is in another, we are in a third, and my close friends are all over the country. If someone were to want to throw one for us, I would never refuse. But, it just seems like so much hassle for a lot of stress...

  14. LovelyPlum

    eggplant / 11408 posts

@PEAPIE: I think you can order a no-cheesy games rule. I've never been a fan of the cheesy games. But I'm glad you're excited for yours!

@HazelEyes: we put ours up, too~it's our first real one since we've been married, and I really quite like it! I've been super tired, too, and I got a lecture at the doctor's on Monday about not getting enough sleep. It's hard, though!

  15. nana87

    cantaloupe / 6171 posts

@LovelyPlum: I hear you on the "everybody is all over the place" problem with the shower, I'm anticipating that mine might be really small because people are so spread out! The one being planned for me will be in NYC, where we live now, and where my dad lives now, but my mom (though she's the planner) is still in Michigan (she and my dad are commuting back and forth now...it's complicated/job-related!), my sil is in MI (though apparently she might be coming anyway, she told my mom she wants to help plan), as well as a lot of family friends. My extended family is all spread out too. Then dh's family, family friends, and some of our closest friends are in DC, though maybe some of them will come in since it isn't so far. I have some close friends in NYC, but a lot more spread out all over the place. So, it's complicated!

ETA: what do you all think about co-ed vs women-only showers? I'm leaning towards co-ed but the only co-ed one I've ever been to was super awkward...but it might just be that it was an awkward couple, haha

  16. HazelEyes

    clementine / 811 posts

@nana87: The only co-ed shower I went to was for three co-workers who are guys. They had it at a bar and made them drink beer from bottles, other than that, it wasn't to "shower-y"

  17. nana87

    cantaloupe / 6171 posts

    @HazelEyes: haha, that's hilarious!

  18. luckypenny

    grapefruit / 4582 posts

@LovelyPlum: I feel ya. Things like this can definitely be stressful but I think baby showers are a lot easier than wedding showers. We also made ours co-ed for DD and that made it so much more relaxed and fun. We didn't play any cheesy games (except guess how much candy is in the bottle) and it just felt like a nice brunch. It was fun to see all our friends be excited about baby too.

  19. LovelyPlum

    eggplant / 11408 posts

@luckypenny: I'm glad to hear that it was fun. If we did something, I would want it to be like that-just a party to celebrate the baby. And I think I would like to have DH there. If we don't do anything before baby is born, I'm thinking we'll do a "meet-the-baby" thing that sounds a lot like your shower was-just casual, relaxed, celebrating. That's what I really want. And if I could easily have it, then I would be all over it. We'll have to see. I'm on the fence right now.

  20. LovelyPlum

    eggplant / 11408 posts

@nana87: I like co-ed, I think! But then again, the people we would want to invite to a co-ed shower are our couple-friends, who again probably wouldn't be able to come up to one, since they're all so far apart. But I say go for it!

Is anyone else eating all the food?

Last weekend, my in laws invited us over and ordered Chinese. My MIL ordered WAY too much, cause the restaurant was very generous with their serving sizes.

BUT, while everyone else was sitting in the living room, holding their full stomachs, I was going in for more food, lol. MIL then said, "Please take the leftovers with you!" and then was amazed that there wasn't any, lol.

I have a HUGE appetite! I really fear that the scale is really going to shame me tomorrow for it!

  22. luckypenny

    grapefruit / 4582 posts

@LovelyPlum: A sip & see would be fun too! That way everyone can get their "visit" in all at once lol I remember it being hard to explain to DH's non-married/childless friends that 2 days after baby is born, we didn't want to be entertaining. I mean, I was still in mesh underwear!

@Dandelion: Of course being pregnant during the holidays is blessing/curse. Because now I'm already wearing elastic pants and feel no guilt about going back for seconds but I remember coming back from holidays and OB was like "whoa. you've put on some weight!" I mean, doesn't everyone during the holidays?! LOL

I've been trying to keep my appetite under control. After gaining 70 lbs with DD, I'm pretty terrified this pregnancy. So far (I'll be 24 weeks Friday) I'm only up about 12 lbs so I think I can keep it around 30 total.

  23. Dandelion

    watermelon / 14206 posts

@luckypenny: Ha...the post about wearing "fat pants" for Thanksgiving cracked me up, because I'm always wearing my fat pants this year, and there's plenty of room to grow in them, lol.

  24. HazelEyes

    clementine / 811 posts

@Dandelion: Yes. I am insatiable. It feels a little embarrassing. I keep hoping the reason my belly is getting bigger is Baby growing and not just me!

@luckypenny: So many people keep saying that the holidays are such a great time to be pregnant since we all gain weight, but all I keep thinking its, "yeah, but you don't get weighed at the doctor's office each month and wait to get scolded!"

  25. LovelyPlum

    eggplant / 11408 posts

@Dandelion: I'm hungry all of the time, too! It's gotten better recently, but man oh man, my stomach rumbles pretty much all day. My big problem is that by the time that I make something, it no longer sounds appetizing. But Chinese food? You had better believe I would be all over that!

@luckypenny: good point on the sip n see. The good news is that my extended family doesn't live close enough for drop-in visits. Anyone who does live close by would (I'm pretty sure) be totally OK with the mesh undies sitch We'd have to travel for a sip n see anyways, so I think it makes the most sense.

As far as the weight gain thing goes, mine has finally, finally started to slow. I really only wanted to gain 30 pounds or so with this baby, but there is literally no way that is happening...I'm already up 23 now. But the last few weeks have been normal, on-target gains, so I'm trying to focus on that, eating lots of veggies, and drinking enough water. I can't stress over it, or I will obsess. It just is what it is right now. The upside is that everyone keeps saying that I don't look like I've put on that much weight, so there's that. Oh pregnancy...

  26. Dandelion

    watermelon / 14206 posts

@HazelEyes: there's a lot of good reasons to be pregnant during the holidays...including the fact that it makes time go by faster.

But...this is the second year in a row I've been pregnant during this time and it has gotten old lol.

  27. nana87

    cantaloupe / 6171 posts

I'm definitely feeling hungrier I think, but I still get sick when I eat too much, so I'm not quite in "eat all the food!" mode. I only just started gaining rather than losing weight, so I think I'm okay. But it's so weird, I feel like I've been indulging so much more than I normally let myself and eventually that approach is going to bite me in the butt!

  28. jhd

    coconut / 8079 posts

@Dandelion: yes! I have days where it doesn't matter what I eat, I am still starving all the time!!! Yesterday was one of them! I still have to just snack a little at a time though or I feel sick.

  29. megz06

    apricot / 335 posts

@Dandelion: Lol I don't limit myself to the amount, but I do try to make healthier choices. However, I have only gained 5 pounds, so I figure I can afford to have a few scoops of ice cream if I want to. But I already told DH at Christmas I am TOTALLY going to eat all the food, lol.

Does anyone have any good suggestions for prenatal exercises? I think we talked about this way back in the pages about pciking up a prenatal yoga DVD, but does anyone know of any good prenatal exercises I can find free online that would be helpful? Preferably ones that don't involved a lot of knees like lunges or squats. It's way too icy to get out there and walk, and I am really starting to get some pain in my left hip and buttock from being so lazy and sleeping on that side all the time.

    eggplant / 11408 posts

@Dandelion: good luck at your appointment today!

This morning was an "eat all the food" morning. I had a piece of pumpkin bread, and then I had to run to the post office...which is right next to a Starbucks...which had the most amazing looking cinnamon rolls in the display...which I promptly purchased and ate. Whoops

  31. Dandelion

    watermelon / 14206 posts

@LovelyPlum: Ha, I've had two donuts and right now I'm warming up some spinach artichoke dip. it serves 4, I think, but I know from experience that I can eat it all.

@Dandelion: my appetite is getting huge, huge, huge. i've been on a GD diet this pregnancy so i was not gaining any weight. however, i think i think i just caught up in the last week or so. food is just so yummy these days. with the growing belly however, i get full really quickly and it exacerbates my back pain the more i eat!

@luckypenny: feel better! aww that's awesome your friends are throwing you a sprinkle. being a middle child...i've definitely been jipped out of a lot of things growing up! getting a sprinkle for your second born is a great way to start things off for LO #2.

@hazeleyes: i had switched my prenatals to one that didn't include a stool softener. that combined with a high protein diet - omg, constipation was horrendous. i picked up colace last night at the pharmacy (100mg) and took it last night and it's already been great. i plan on taking it everyday - is that okay? maybe every other day? i just can't go back to what happened last week.

  33. HazelEyes

    clementine / 811 posts

@SupernovaJ: Hm. I do take mine every day, but I only take the 50 mg. The pharmacist when I first got them said that the 100 may be too much.

  34. SupernovaJ

    persimmon / 1141 posts

@HazelEyes: Lol my pharmacist said the opposite and that 100mg is okay, and that I'll need "at least" that much. I guess it varies, but I will double check with my OB if I'm taking it everyday, or just take 100mg every other day. They didn't have the 50mg at my local pharm! Thank you for the suggestion.

  35. HazelEyes

    clementine / 811 posts

@SupernovaJ: Of course! If I can spare someone of that nonsense its worth it!

That's funny our pharms said different things. I did notice that it was more difficult to find the 50mg. When I went to refill one store didn't have it and another had only one bottle of storebrand.

@Dandelion: OMG donuts are my weakness!!

@megz06: I actually think squats would help your hip pain! You probably need to do more stretches - plus squats will help so much with labor

Today's appointment was good. Heartbeat is good, and I'm measuring right on track so far. Next appointment is another glucose test. I passed the first one, but it was early, so now I still have to take the one that everyone does.

The only downside to today was that the nurse did my shot really low...right in my cheek! So, all afternoon I feel like my butt is on fire.
