Can I jump in on the shower convo? I don't like traditional late-morning/early-afternoon showers, but my guest list is too big to open it up to being co-ed...they just wouldn't fit in the space! So my sister, the host, and I have discussed doing a late-afternoon (4 p.m.) shower and making it a girl's happy hour (kind of a cocktails and cradles thing) so it's slightly non-traditional but lots of fun. Appetizers for food, bottles of wine for prizes (we're going to do a diaper raffle) and maybe one or two non-ridiculous games. Cocktails for everyone but me Plus a mocktail for me! I'm looking forward to it.

@luckypenny: Thanks! I will try to do squats if I can. Maybe I can do a modified version because of my knees.
@Dandelion: Ouch. I hope you feel better today.

I feel much better today. No sign of pain at all. Next time I see that nurse coming at me with a needle, I'm going to tell her to point it up more!
My MIL works at Goodwill. Every year, around this time, she gets a handful of "Family and Friends" coupons, where whoever she gives them to (like me!) can get whatever for 30% off. It was good for this whole past week, so last Friday I got a load of baby clothes and today she went with me and bought me a whole other load! I got some nice finds, like Baby Gap shorts with tags still on, and a cute Ninja Turtle outfit that DS really got a kick out of. I was really picky, otherwise I'd have a ton more, but a lot of stuff was NWT, and each piece was just a little over a dollar! I also got a cute wire hamper for LO.
Now, I'm pretty well stocked on newborn and 0-3 month stuff. I told my mom and MIL to buy bigger, unless it's pants or socks. I barely have any of those. Although, I do have a bunch of Baby Legs, because I snatch them up off of Steals a lot.

@Dandelion: wow! Sounds like you made out like a bandit!! Glad the pain went away too

@CastleGirl: that sounds like a lot of fun!
@Dandelion: that's awesome! Glad you got so much stuff-and for so cheap!
How is everyone this fine Monday? How were your weekends? We had lots of snow, so we mostly stayed in yesterday. It was nice not to have to go anywhere! I drove in the snow on Saturday, though, and it took forever to do anything. I don't mind the snow, but other drivers make me nervous!
coconut / 8079 posts
@LovelyPlum: I don't know about you, but I am more paranoid than usual about other drivers. I have lived lots of places and find that snow makes people drive extra crazy! we had a good weekend. Today was my bday & I cooked with my students. They were all so well behaved (amazing!) and we had such a good day!!!
DH took me to the movies Fri and today we went out to dinner & I got a box of chocolates (the only thing I wanted lol)

@jhd: happy birthday!!!
@LovelyPlum: Monday and weekend were good! I'm finally feeling better. I worked out today and DD even let me sleep until 8 AM. We celebrated Xmas with MIL yesterday and it was so nice. They are so sweet and spoil me every year - I got a $300 check this year! MIL has fostered a deep love of Christmas and Santa in DD that just warms my heart
I've got a busy week prepping for another east coast trip on Sunday. We are going to my moms in charleston, SC for 10 days so getting everyone packed is an ordeal.

I have nothing new to report, pregnancy wise. I guess that's a good thing. LO is kicking and bouncing about. Probably from all the junk I eat.
I get to relax this week, since DS is out of school as of this upcoming Friday. He'll keep me busy next week!

@jhd: happy birthday!!
@luckypenny: glad you're feeling better!
I think we're finally about to facebook-announce...seems both like we've been delaying forever, and so soon, haha
eggplant / 11408 posts
@luckypenny: how sweet of your MIL. My MIL is coming over New Year's, and I'm excited. She may be a little much sometimes, but she's so sweet, and so excited. Can't deny a grandma that Enjoy your time at your Mama's-let her spoil you rotten!
@Dandelion: enjoy your time off! DH and I were just saying that it will be a nice long break for him, but parents are probably going to be wishing it were a little shorter!
@nana87: nice! We still haven't, LOL. I wasn't going to do it, but last night I'm thinking it might not be a bad idea. I may wait until after the New Year, though-then I'll be in my third tri, and that seems as good a time as any to say something. Funny story: someone posted a pic of me from a party over the weekend, and they caught about the only angle where you can't tell at all that I'm pregnant (I was sitting at an angle). It cracks me up, because it's right in front of everyone's noses, and you can't tell. Have fun with your announcement!
I'm having a lot of pressure/pain/cramps today. It started last night, and it didn't go away overnight. I'm sure it is RLP, but I may call the nurse's line anyways, just to see. In the meantime, I'm writing a paper from my bed, so I can sit and relax. Last one before the semester is over! Woo hoo

Oh, last weekend my MIL was a little weird. She knows I don't like my belly touched, but she tries anyways. I let her do it about a quarter of the time. I really hate it, though.
But, this time she crouched down and whispered at my belly, saying, "this is gramma" and some other stupid stuff.
I was like...WHY are you whispering? He can't hear that! So she yelled it, and then I told her now go away, lol.
I honestly have fears about my MIL being too much when it comes to this baby. I'm going to really have to put down boundaries, I think.
grapefruit / 4582 posts
@Dandelion: eww. Not cool. I haven't had anyone touch my belly without asking yet (knock on wood) but then talking to it is a whole other awkward situation lol boundaries for sure!
watermelon / 14206 posts
@luckypenny: I have her well trained from last pregnancy. But she still can't help it at times. I have a list of concerns with her but I won't bring them up to dh or her until they crop up. (Like her smoking)

@LovelyPlum: @luckypenny: @nana87: @Dandelion: thanks, ladies!
@Dandelion: i had a student touch my belly today. she asked once before but this time just did it. it was a little weird. i don't enjoy the belly touching! lol and i hear you on the MIL boundaries. i'm terrified my ILs will feed this baby ice cream or something when he's newborn. they are weird like that.
@LovelyPlum: that's so funny about that FB photo.
@luckypenny: how sweet of your MIL. glad you guys had a good time celebrating together. i hope all your packing & prep for the trip goes well!
@nana87: have fun with your announcement! have you decided how you will do it yet?
apricot / 335 posts
@Dandelion: Oh, honey, I feel your pain. I am dealing with a MIL who has NO boundary what so ever. We are actually looking to have a long convo with her because this has been even since before baby was even though of, but it will get worse once he's born.
She's been told twice not to touch my belly (I feel very uncomfortable) and she does it anyway, and this weekend DH was like, "Mom, she gets uncomfortable. You can't just go touching her belly without asking." MIL's response? "Yeah, yeah." So I've decided if she doesn't care about my feelings, I don't care if she's hurt the next time I call her out on it.
watermelon / 14206 posts
@megz06: I call my mil out. She backs off when I do but then finds some other way to be weird.
eggplant / 11408 posts
@Dandelion: @luckypenny: @jhd: @megz06: I haven't seen my MIL since I've been pregnant, so I don't know how she'll be. But, the last time I visited my parents, I was standing at the table talking to my dad, and he reached up and rubbed my belly while we were chatting. It was seriously the sweetest thing

@megz06: I know. Poor lady.

@jhd: it's pretty silly, but I managed to get a picture of one of our dogs wearing my glasses and it looks like he's reading my copies of the mayo guide and "what to expect when you're expecting," so we're leaning on posting that...still haven't done it yet though!
@megz06: @Dandelion: ugh, sorry about your mils having no boundaries!! my dad so far is the main one who keeps touching my belly. he likes to rub it and say "my baby and her baby!" which is mostly sweet, except when he did it repeatedly at his office holiday party where he is the new boss as of this fall so he was doing that to introduce me to a bunch of people for the first time, lol....
@LovelyPlum: oh that's terrible

@nana87: cute idea!
@LovelyPlum: thank you for posting that here. so terribly sad

@nana87: I love my dad but if he did that I'd be so embarrassed lol
So I really wanted to wear a pair of pre-pregnancy pants today because they are so comofy apart from the fact I can't button or zip them up, lol. I bought a tummy sleeve from Motherhood and decided to try it out. It works great and doesn't roll down or up like I thought it would, so so far so good. The only thing is it doesn't smooth out all the lines from the parts that won't hook together, but I'm not going to complain.
Yahoo for pre-preggo pants, although I weighed myself this morning and from Thanksgiving until today I gained 7 pounds for a total of 12 so far. I blame the shower i took this morning, all my clothes, and the 3 homemade truffles I unfortunately overindulged in last night. (they were worth it)
eggplant / 11408 posts
@megz06: so I really thought I responded to your post, but apparently not. ANYWAYS...I'm impressed you got pre-preg pants to fit. Mine do not, with the exception of pj pants. But good for you for still being able to wear them!
Big milestone today: I hit viability!! I can't believe I'm 24 weeks already. Third tri is so close! I have a feeling that after we get through the holidays, time is going to start FLYING.
watermelon / 14206 posts
@LovelyPlum: I celebrated viability this week, too! It's amazing how fast this pregnancy is going. I think the weekly appointments to go in and get shots really make it feel like it's going faster! I'm glad time is flying. I'm so impatient to meet this guy!
eggplant / 11408 posts
@Dandelion: yay! I feel like things are moving quickly this last month, and I'm sure it will continue after the New Year. I'm trying to savor it, though. I don't want to wish it all away!
coconut / 8079 posts
@megz06: I'm also impressed your pre preggo pants fit. I'm scared to get weighed on Fri. I'm sure I have gained a bunch! But I am just so hungry!!! And people gifting me sweets doesn't help!
@Dandelion: @LovelyPlum: yay for 24 weeks!!
eggplant / 11408 posts
@jhd: thanks! And I hear you on the sweets-I currently have gingerbread that is calling my name, but it's my own darn fault, because I made it
grapefruit / 4582 posts
@LovelyPlum: seriously! I get back from SC and ill be 27 weeks!! When did that happen?!
I haven't done anything to prep the house for baby but I am starting full throttle when we get back - including transitioning DD to a toddler bed. Yikes!
eggplant / 11408 posts
@luckypenny: yeeeeah, I don't really have anything done. Though I will say, the nesting bug bit me HARD the last few days. This is a good thing, because we have so much cleaning/sorting/organizing/rearranging to do before I can even THINK about bringing baby items into this apartment. So the fact that I am cleaning out random obscure corners, boxes, and shelves where junk has amassed over the last year and a half is not a bad thing!
Oh, and we have to paint the bedroom...which is currently full of stuff...that will have no where to go when we need to move it all to paint. So, that should be fun. That might be our biggest January project!
apricot / 335 posts
@LovelyPlum: Ok, I am ridiculous dumb. I had no idea what viability meant in pregnancy, so I looked it up and I immediately started tearing up like a hormonal crazy person because I am so CLOSE then. 3 days according to my original due date on the 13th (but technically only one day with the due date the docs have set of the 11th, but I didn't change it because the later in the month I can tell people the better lol).
@jhd: Thanks. I have only gained weight in my stomach thus far, so it must be all baby if my pre-pregnancy pants fit with the help of a sleeve to keep them from falling down. I worked SO damn hard before I got pregnant to lose as much weight as possible, and I wasn't half way to my goal when I got pregnant, so a part of me was slightly depressed about weight gain, but I have been keeping it under control. I do eat whatever I want when I want, which probably explains the rapid weight gain the last month, but a part of me doesn't care that much because its of course for the benefit of the baby. Weight gain is good right now
cantaloupe / 6171 posts
@LovelyPlum: @Dandelion: hooray for viability!!!! I've got about a week to go, almost there!
we almost have what used to be my office and closet space cleared out to make it the nursery. we had to do a ton of purging/rearranging to make room for my stuff in other parts of the apt, it's been a months-long process! I have just a little more organizing/sorting to do, and then we can get rid of some of the furniture in there, paint one of the walls, and start shopping for nursery furniture!
watermelon / 14206 posts
@nana87: I've had to do a similar thing...my craft toom will contain all of LO's clothes ans changing area and his crib will be in our bedroom and his pnp in the living room. It has taken a lot of creative purginh and rearranging. One day he'll get his own space
