@Dandelion: it is so good! And it was really easy. I made bread this time, as opposed to cookies, because gingerbread cookies are a gigantic PITA. Here's the recipe I used : http://www.chow.com/recipes/18658-gingerbread-loaf
@megz06: you ARE so close! And I hear you on the gaining weight being hard. I worked really hard to lose 40 pounds and get healthy before TTC, and it's so hard to see that number go up and up. But it's for a good cause! As long as we're trying to be healthy, it will come off again.
@nana87: almost there, yay!! And I hear you on the months-long process. I feel like I've been cleaning and organizing forever, but it's still not done. We only have a one bedroom, so we need to get very specific things done before baby stuff starts. Last night, I started going through some old magazines while DH was at work. He came in while I had stuff spread all over the floor, and gave me the cutest "silly girl" look ever. I told him that I "may have been nesting," but he didn't buy the "may have" part. But it's cleaner now!
@Dandelion: sounds like Tetris for the apartment! Did I see on another thread, are you guys moving soon?

@LovelyPlum: looks delicious!!! I have been craving gingerbread, but I have been lazy & simply bought Little Debbie gingerbread men.

Wore a sequined tank top to work today and a student told me my belly reminded her of the New Years Eve ball. Haha. Thanks, kid.
@lovelyplum, I think I'm nesting a little. We cleaned out our closets and moved a bunch of things into storage so we can start getting the spare room ready. And, I'm sorting magazines too!
In other braggy news, I finished my master's degree this week! I am SO HAPPY to have this hurdle out of the way before the baby comes.
I feel like I'm only in and out of this thread lately, so I am hoping you all are having a lovely December and not feeling too lousy.

Happy Weekend, everyone! Any fun plans?
<Warning: big vent coming! haha> I registered yesterday (yay!), but my mom was with me and I ended up being so disappointed and annoyed about going with her she's visiting right now so I thought she would really enjoy going with me--it's totally her kind of thing, she was ecstatic to go look at strollers a couple months ago when I visited her--but she was completely distracted and disengaged, rather than being excited or helpful. The second we walked into the store, she started looking for gifts for my nieces rather than things for this lo. Plus, she was texting my dad back and forth the whole time, which is bad enough already, but she was using a group message so my phone kept going off too. Every time I talk to her lately, all she talks about is her new apartment (she just moved) or my bro/sil/nieces. Literally the other day she said "I want to talk about you, but we need to talk about me first" but ummm, that's all we ever talk about!! Literally, she tells me the same stories over and over again and barely asks about me. I tried to talk about being stressed about the extra monitoring and tests my doctor is having me do because of baby's kidney, and she just just brushed it aside saying she thinks they're making me worry unnecessarily (and then went back to googling her new apartment furniture...) Maybe so, but still, would it hurt to let me talk? I'm so fed up with her already, and she literally just got here and will be here for another 2 weeks...I know I'm not the center of the universe, but it'd be nice not to have my feelings pushed aside repeatedly...At the very least, when we're registering for me she could be thinking of me first, right? It was overwhelming enough as it is without her making it more difficult.

@nana87: Awww man! What a bummer! I'm sorry that something that was supposed to be fun and bonding turned into something stressful for you I would try not to take it too personally. I hope the rest of her visit goes better

@nana87: That's so crazy! I hope you're able to get through the next 2 weeks ok.

@nana87: I'm so sorry that your registry outing turned out so poorly. That is stressful. I hope that was just a bad day for your mom & things get better. And I hope you guys can talk about your concerns. It's hard not to worry with the extra tests etc. but try to relax & enjoy the holidays. I'll just say a little prayer that things get better & also that baby is perfectly ok!

Hey ladies. Mom and dad are here to visit for the holidays and painted the nursery while hubs and I were at work on Friday. Stage one of project nursery complete!
It's kind of dark and rainy here today, so the color isn't too clear. It's light grey, but you get the idea
Now they are all doing our bedroom with the remaining paint! So excited! The previous owners painted eeeeeverything beige and I'm so sick of it!

@nana87: I'm sorry you had that experience with mom. It is really overwhelming to register, forget the doctors Appts. I'd be a stressball! Hopefully it was an off day and things turn around.

@gilmoregirl: congratulations!! What a huge accomplishment!
@CastleGirl: another boy?! Lots of them here
@nana87: I'm so sorry That is so stressful, and not fair to you. I hope that the rest of the visit goes well. Maybe she was having a rough day?
@HazelEyes: beautiful! And so exciting-it's getting real!!

@HazelEyes: hooray for progress on the nursery! I love the light grey. You are totally motivating me to get on top of things when we get back from the holidays.
We are leaving tonight on the red eye to spend 9 days with my family. I'm so excited. Charleston has the best food so I just plan on getting fat and letting everyone babysit DD. I am a little sick so I'm taking a Benadryl before takeoff to hopefully clear up some congestion and knock me out to sleep. I have the worst time popping my ears in the plane so I'm really nervous about it hurting

@luckypenny: enjoy your trip & all the good food!!

So I think (emphasis on think) that we finished our registry. We did a Babylist one and a BBB one, but I like the Babylist one better, I think, because it can include basically any store that you want. I tried to keep it simple, and I'm sure there are things that I forgot. But, it feels good to have it done, especially because it looks like we may have a small shower, after all. A friend of mine from school wants to host. It will be very small and very casual-just people who live up here, no one traveling, etc. But I am excited, I have to admit

@LovelyPlum: yay! That's exciting I'm hoping we can get some work done on registries over the break too.

@nana87: I am so sorry. I am dealing with a MIL that isn't considering my feelings right now, so I can kind of relate. I hope that your mom starts listening more. I would think as a parent you'd want to talk about your kids more than yourself...
@HazelEyes: Going to be a great looking nursery, and that's great your parents help you out with it!
I posted over in appts, but I had a surprise appt this morning after some chest tightening/heaviness on both Friday and Sunday. They did an EKG, pulmonary function test, and drew blood, and everything checked out ok. Little man's ticker was a tocking so that is great. She said she believes it is stress and possibly baby laying on some sort of artery/nerve or whatever. She said if I break out in a cold sweat, pass out, or it doesn't go away then I need to go to the ER. I'm thinking for the next few months I need to shut everyone out and stay indoors. Sounds simply divine to be honest!

@megz06: oh no! How scary. Glad you are ok & little guy too. Take it easy & I hope you can get plenty of rest!
eggplant / 11408 posts
@jhd: I've loved Babycenter because you can add things from all different sites, like Etsy and Amazon, as well as Target and BRU. We also have a BBB registry, but mostly because I'd like to get the discount on the big items I have a link to our BBB one on our Babycenter one as well.
@megz06: I'm so sorry, Mama That sounds like a rough few days. I'm glad that you and the little man are doing OK, though. Hey, if shutting everyone out is what you need to do, I say go for it!

@luckypenny: I hope your flight went well! I can't stand red eyes, I hope it was a breeze though for you!
@LovelyPlum: so fun that your registry is done, and hooray for a small shower! I think we're done with ours now too, though I keep going back and forth on what car seat I want, haha.
eggplant / 11408 posts
@nana87: I keep going back and forth, too! What are you decided on?
cantaloupe / 6171 posts
@LovelyPlum: I put the Chicco Keyfit on our registry, but I keep going back and forth between it and the Cybex Aton. They weigh about the same amount, and both fit on the Cruz with adapters. The Chicco has a better review on Consumer Reports and is a lot cheaper, which is why dh is more into it, but the way that the Cybex buckles in to a car without the base looks like it might be a tinier bit more secure--it uses a lap belt plus you can fit a belt across it...Really I like the Maxi Cosi best I think, but it only lasts until baby weighs like 22 lbs...Ugh! What are you thinking about car seats now?
eggplant / 11408 posts
@nana87: I ended up putting this Chicco on our registry:
http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=21198386
Spaniellove recommended it to me-apparently, it has a zip out mesh sunshade extender, which is nice. I'm still not wild about the idea of an infant seat over the convertible, but I figure I can always leave it in the car full time and ditch it for a convertible as soon as LO gets a bit bigger. Plus, this has the benefit of being about $150 cheaper than the Peg Perego convertible that I have my eye on.

I hope you all are having a nice Christmas! Today DH goes back to work and DS is at his dad's, so today and tomorrow is going to be peaceful...with the exception of my weekly shot today.
I'm taking my tree down today...the shedding drives me crazy!
Anyone getting Braxton Hicks? I had 3 yesterday, and they've been a daily thing for a few weeks, now. They are much more noticeable this time around than they were with S.
apricot / 335 posts
@Dandelion: Hope you had a great Christmas! I end up leaving my tree up until, like, mid-January lol but I don't have a real tree though.
I have had a few BH but they aren't daily and I barely notice them unless I am sitting still. I honestly don't know if they are supposed to just feel hard and tight but not hurt? I know they are there, but that's the only feelings I get when it happens. I am just like, "Wow my stomach is tight." Then it goes away pretty quick after that.
coconut / 8079 posts
@Dandelion: hope you had a great Christmas & enjoy your peaceful day today! I'm looking forward to a quiet day today too I haven't had any Braxton Hicks but I think I am a few weeks behind you.
grapefruit / 4582 posts
@nana87: I would keep in mind that most babies outgrow the infant seat by height much faster than the weight. And 22 lbs is still big for an infant set. I think my DD (who has always been in 85th percentile reached 22 lbs around 15 months)
@Dandelion: wow! Must be nice to have some downtime. I'm laying down with E while she naps now so I can relax but I want to go out shopping and be alone! No Braxton hicks so far but I dot think I ever had any with DD.

@jhd: Thanks for asking! I am feeling ok. Looking forward to talking to my doctor on the 31st about pregnancy anxiety. It's just not talked about enough and for someone tell me to just "relax" doesn't help. I know what I need to do (relax) but I don't know how to do it, and it doesn't help that at my appt it was just treated as a normal thing.
coconut / 8079 posts
@megz06: I hope things get better & you get what you need at your appt. Anxiety is definitely a tricky thing and you're right that it doesn't get talked about enough (or at least not in a healthy & helpful way). Hang in there!

Hi everyone
Excited to finally be out of lurking mode officially. I have been following all of you amazing April mamas and am excited to be part of this community. Our second child is due April 17! We are thrilled about having a boy and our hope with this pregnancy is that he is not as anxious as his big sister to join the world too early.
Can't wait to be a more active member of such a wonderful group!
