@Dandelion: Good luck!!! Fingers crossed you pass and all goes well
@LovelyPlum: You go girl. I decided at the start of the holidays that I was so over holding back. If I have the strength to avoid, I will, but I have a Greek uncle and Greek salad is a staple at family holidays, so I indulged on feta cheese (granted, it was probably pasturized), but I seriously don't reheat deli meat and stuff like that.

@LovelyPlum: didn't it feel good to rebel? I swear it tastes better because you're not "supposed" to have it. I think you'll have fun at the shower. It's nice to feel celebrated!

The Dr said that i can definitely be scheduled to do a c section at 39 weeks but they won't do it any earlier unless they have a better reason. They're gonna do ultrasounds starting at 36 weeks and if it looks like he's getting too big then they'll put in orders to section of I go into labor early. But if he's not looking big I just go to the hospital and monitor me and if there is ANY pause in labor there will be a c section. But if I'm progressing well and am having a fast labor like with ds they'll have me deliver naturally. I'm measuring right on track right now.
Somehow I only gained another 3 pounds. I don't know how. I eat like mad!

Happy Weekend everybody!! I hope you're all having a lovely, relaxing one.
Things have been a little hectic here! We went to our first class on Thursday night, Infant CPR, and it was really useful and is also making things feel super real! I also went to the required class at my hospital on Friday for if you want to use the birth center there rather than the traditional labor and delivery floor, and it was super, super overwhelming. I wanted to go to learn about it and have it as an option, but I really haven't even researched childbirth yet. The birth center is really, really nice--it's more comfortable than l+d in that all the rooms are private and homier (whereas it's about a 1k charge to get a private room in l+d), there are fridges and a microwave, you can have more support people with you (up to 3), there's a specific waiting area for other people rather than using the hospital lobby (which is closed at night and farther away), and dh would be able to spend the night with me and baby after she's born. Also, there are no restrictions on food or drink, and you can move around as much as you want while in labor. BUT, you can't give birth there if you are induced or want an epidural. So I'm totally torn! I really need to think about what I want. It might not be an option anyway if any risks pop up or I go too long past my due date, but still. I have to do a lot more research! We have a day-long childbirth class scheduled for next month that should be helpful too.
On top of all that, we're temporarily moving to Boston for the next 2 months so I can do some dissertation research there. It's going to be insane bc I'll have to come back to NYC every 2 weeks for appointments, but ultimately it'll be good to get this part of my project out of the way before baby. I actually have a grant to go there so I need to go before the summer, and I def don't want to with a newborn! Luckily since dh works at home, he and the dogs are coming with me, and we're staying with a friend of his so it should be feasible. Much better than when I had to go to the UK over the fall, but still, crazy! I'm going to be traveling back and forth like mad and all I want to do is stay home and nest!

@nana87: wow I hope your time in Boston goes well! I'm glad your DH & pups get to go along! We have our childbirth class in a few weeks to. We also opted for the marathon course rather than going to three separate sessions. I'm sure you will make the right choice about the birth process...there really are so many different decisions to be made about everything...it does get overwhelming at times!!

Hope you ladies all had a great weekend! We added some more stuff to our Target registry this weekend. And I finally got started on a blanket for baby!!!

@megz06: I don't reheat, either. I love me some pepperoni!
@luckypenny: that it does!
@Dandelion: I'm glad that you have a plan in place. How do you feel about it? And I'm so jealous about your 3 pounds. I feel like I gain 3 pounds by just looking at a scale! Ugh.
@nana87: craziness, indeed! I'm glad that DH and the dogs can come with. I hope that it's productive. I have recently been trying to figure out my next summer (2015), when DH and baby are going to have to come to London with me while I do research. There's a lot of logistics in research!
@jhd: @nana87: we are doing the 5 week class, because I am not good at day long events. I think it will be easier for DH, either. I'm delivering at a hospital, but if I had a choice between a birth center or hospital, I don't know what I would do.
@jhd: I keep playing with my registry, too! It's kinda fun

So, long story short, I finally had a huge falling out with my MIL on Sunday. She even told me to get the hell out of her house (her words), so things have been pretty shaken up since that point. What's worse is my parents are really upset over it and the amount of stress MIL is causing me, so my mom was ready to call her on Sunday and give her a talking to. Luckily she didn't because I don't think we need the situation any worse. Funny how what's supposed to be one of the most fun times in my life is a complete nightmare. I am hoping to have made some progress by the baby shower in February because if my mom and MIL are in the same room where the situation currently stands I think my mom is going to rip her apart, and after this weekend I don't think I want MIL to reciprocate.
*sigh* It's actually more fun being at work lol.

@LovelyPlum: ahh does seeing all these boys make you think you're having a boy? I've been calling baby "him" and "he" just to get used to the idea lol
@Beyond2: Congrats on your boy!
@megz06: oh no! I'm so sorry and I can't believe she said that to you! Thats totally uncalled for

Hey everyone! I have been MIA for so long and seems like I have missed so much. Things were more then hectic around the holidays and it feels like time is just flying! I hope everyone is doing well and their pregnancies are going great!:)
Unfortunately I started having some serious complications with mine and we are officially on baby watch now. A little scary to think about and hoping that she stays in their for as long as possible! She is at least doing very well and is healthy and active. I'm off of work for at least the next couple of weeks by MD orders and a vacation so I am hoping to be more active on here and get to know everyone again!
eggplant / 11408 posts
@megz06: I am so sorry. You don't deserve that kind of stress I hope that there can be some sort of resolution.
@luckypenny: I can't decide if it makes me think I'm having a boy or that I must be having a girl to even it out! But I'm carrying low and have been craving sour, so our suspicion is boy. I'm further suspicious because we cannot decide on a boy's name, even though we thought we had. So naturally, it's probably a boy
@Beyond2: meh, just jump in whenever. These conversations are long and rambling, but we love everyone to participate!
Here's my drama for the day/week:
http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/black-ice-a-small-update#post-1347547
Long story short: I fell on black ice on Sunday, and it turns out that I dislocated my hip. Sooo, it's off to physical therapy for me. I'm feeling a bit better now, but I am completely wiped out. I was only able to get 3 hours of sleep last night, because it was so uncomfy. As a result, I'm now headed to bed, and I am SO EXCITED about it. Seriously, yay bed.
Hope you all have a wonderful evening

@MrsSpadusa: hi there, welcome back! Congrats on your girl! I'm sorry that things have gotten complicated, though. I hope she keeps cooking for as long as possible!
Also, I'm not going to lie, it freaks me out a little bit that there is an April mama on active baby watch. How are we there already?!?!
watermelon / 14206 posts
@MrsSpadusa: oh my! How far along are you? I had ds at 32 weeks and after some nicu time he was fine. I hope she stays cooking as long as possible!

@lovelyplum- Ouch!! I hope you recover quickly and don't have too much pain- Its bad enough dealing with the aches and pains of pregnancy!!
@megz06- I'm sorry you have to go through all that drama. Hopefully things will start to get better and resolve especially before the baby is born.

@megz06: ugh, I'm so sorry! family drama is so stressful, and now is so not the time for people to break out their crazy on you...
@MrsSpadusa: oh goodness, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you and baby!
@LovelyPlum: I'm carrying this girl pretty low, so who knows! and seriously, yay bed always, but particularly for you after that stupid ice!
we're officially moved into our Boston temporary home, but our latest drama is that due to a ridiculous and infuriating delivery snafu with our nursery furniture (they've delivered the wrong changing table to us not once, but twice!!), we have to unexpectedly drive back to NYC this weekend. Plus then I'll have to be back the next weekend for dr appointment on the 27. Not to mention the stupid company still hasn't scheduled the crib delivery, so........fun times traveling back and forth....

@megz06: i'm so sorry about all your MIL drama. i hope things resolve quickly. you definitely don't need that extra stress.
@MrsSpadusa: congrats on your girl!! i hope she stays put for a while longer. take good care of yourself!
@Beyond2: congrats on your boy!!
Hope everyone is having a good week so far! After a few snow days we finally got final exams finished and started our new semester today. My class load is a little lighter in some ways, but I just know one group is going to wear me out. They kept me on my toes all class time and I missed my am snack!

@nana87: oh no! all that extra traveling. i hope things get worked out soon with your baby gear deliveries.

Ahhh! DH got a job offer that's going to be really gret for our family long term but there's one catch...it's in NYC! I'm 99% site we are going to do it! Likely we won't be moving until a month or two after baby gets here but I'm excited and scared at the same time. My biggest hesitation is leaving MIL who is my best friend and watches DD for us 2x/week and for date nights. Plus she's DDs favorite person ever. It breaks my heart to separate them
olive / 70 posts
@LovelyPlum: thank you! And I hope she keeps cooking much longer too. It scared me to death when the OB told me that I could deliver at any time.:(
@Dandelion: I'm 28 wks 2 days. Late enough that she should be just fine with some NICU time but obviously early enough for her to not be in the clear. They gave me a series of steroid shots to help prepare her lungs in case of delivery.
@jhd: thank you!

@MrsSpadusa: oh my gosh! Hope baby stays cooking in there! Ill be thinking of you guys

@mrsspadusa : my first was born at 28 weeks and 4 days. Hope the baby stays in there as long as possible. I'm glad they gave you the steroid shots though. That does make a difference. My little girl was in Nicu for two months afterwards but did great. Will keep you in my thoughts!
@luckypenny ooh congrats!! We live in NYC and love it! So great that you might be moving here! It is terrible that you won't be as close now to MIL but happy for your new opportunity!
So I had a dr appt on Monday and we scheduled my c section for mar 28th!!! I have to have a c section given my last emergency c section and preterm labor. I can't believe how fast this pregnancy is going and I haven't done anything yet!! Full on nesting mode has kicked in!!!

@Ctran: eek! how exciting! March is just around the corner! I'm a little nervous about living in NYC with 2 kids but figure it can't be much harder than SF. We heard Brooklyn (park slope area) and UWS are probably best options for families. Do you think I should get a broker for relocating or just use craigslist? Anything I should know before I move…besides that winters are miserable ? lol
grape / 98 posts
@luckypenny: we live in Brooklyn in prospect heights which borders park slope and Brooklyn is a great place to raise children. So many things to do and so many young families here. Brooklyn might be more affordable with larger spaces than UWS. If your husband's new job helps pay for some of the relocation cost, then yeah use a broker. If not, Craigslist is one option but just be careful as some of the listings are just brokers disguised as non brokers and you might end up paying a fee anyway. I'm part of the parkslopeparents list serv and people are constantly posting for apts so that is an option for you to avoid a brokers fee. If you need any help with that let me know. I absolutely love NYC so other than the weather sometimes, you will love it here. With all the things to do here and places to eat esp in Brooklyn these days, you can't go wrong!!
grapefruit / 4582 posts
@Ctran: oh my gosh the listserv would probably be a huge help - if I wall you my e-mail can you send me the info? The company is covering moving costs (Thank goodness!) so I don't mind either way.

@Ctran: oh wow! I got the order from my dr for a c section at 39 weeks but nothing scheduled yet! March 28 seems so close! Thats around when mine will be too. Unless I go into labor before anyways.

@MrsSpadusa: Wow! I hope that baby decides to stay in there as long as possible. Take care of yourself, mama.
@LovelyPlum: @nana87: @jhd: Thanks ladies. DH and I talked for about 3 1/2 hours last night about it and came to agreements about how visits will be handled. We also talked over the situation, what could have been done differently, and what we both need to improve on, and I think we made a lot of progress. He's going to take the reigns from here with his mom and ask her to talk when she's ready, so we will see how things go.
@Ctran: Good luck and how exciting to know when you're going to meet your baby! March 28 seems so close (and it's my mom's b-day that day, so what a great day lol).

@megz06: I'm glad DH is stepping in and running some interference with the situation. Good luck
The past few days I've been pretty mad at myself for giving away my pregnancy pillow last time lol I have to use 4 pillows just to be comfortable

@luckypenny: oooh how exciting, another nyc bee!! I found Craigslist here to be completely unhelpful (unlike in DC, where it was great). Mostly it's brokers listing apartments, and the ones online aren't the ones they show you anyway. UWS is fairly expensive--more so than Brooklyn, though I've never seriously looked there, but you get less space on the UWS than you do in Brooklyn. Morningside Heights, just above UWS and near Columbia, is much more affordable, though the selection is slimmer because Columbia owns a lot of properties. It's crazy the difference that like 20 blocks can make! There are lots of families because of the university. I found my apartment via an internal university off-campus housing search, which isn't helpful since you can't access it, except that our building uses a brokerage firm that doesn't charge fees since they have an exclusive relationship with the properties they show: http://www.metropolitanequities.com/ I don't think they have any apts in Brooklyn, but that'll at least show you some no-fee Manhattan apts We used the broker Citihabitats when we first moved to NYC and liked them for the most part, except we ended up hating the apartment we found from them...But that was our own fault--we didn't think about how important light is, and ended up on a low floor with windows mostly onto an air shaft, so it felt really dark and cramped. Lesson learned: our apt now has a lot of light, is higher up, and has windows facing the street!
@Ctran: oh wow, an official due date!! how exciting!

I FAILED my glucose test...miserably...with a 187.
I know it's crazy, but I'm SO happy to know this. After 2 pregnancies that had GD, but it wasn't diagnosed, either in time or at all, it's a relief to know it and know that I don't just make big babies for no reason.
No I get to go to a diabetes clinic, monitor my sugar levels, and make sure this baby comes out healthy! (And not early OR stillborn!)
coconut / 8079 posts
@Dandelion: I'm glad you will get extra monitoring. Healthy baby is all that matters!!

@nana87: oh geez, I'm sorry about the crib drama. What a pain. But have fun in Boston! And you'd be proud, I slept from 8:30 to 6:00 last night, and it was glorious
@jhd: don't let them make you miss snack time!! A pregnant mama has to eat!
@MrsSpadusa: I can totally understand that When I fell, I was petrified that I had broken my water, and that fear was mostly irrationality talking. But I'm glad that they are keeping a close eye on you and her!
@Ctran: oh my gosh-our first scheduled birth-eek!! Congrats on having a date. I completely can't remember-are you TG, or do you know if you're having a boy or girl?
@luckypenny: I am so excited for you!!! What a great opportunity!! I'm sorry about MIL, though-that is hard Any chance she can come out for a bit over the summer for some special grandbaby time after you're settled? // Also, I have blankets propping me up everywhere. I hate getting ready to sleep.
@megz06: I am glad that you have a plan. Family drama is seriously the worst.
@Dandelion: yay for failing?? Seriously, though, I'm sure you're so relieved to know that you-and baby- will be extra cared-for.

I'm feeling a bit better today, after lots of sleep last night. I still haven't heard from the physical therapist, but I'm hoping I can get in during the next few days. Also, my belly is huge today! I guess that's OK, though, because...
IT'S THIRD TRIMESTER TIME!!!
Holy geez. Where did THAT come from?!
grapefruit / 4582 posts
@nana87: thanks for the tips! A bright and sunny apartment is a MUST on my list. My last apartment got terrible light and I hated being in it. Size doesn't bother me so much. We're used to little space out here too.
@Dandelion: Bummer for GD, Hooray for GD! lol I'm glad the extra monitoring will provide you with some comfort and relief
@LovelyPlum: She said she would come help us and visit all the time. They are thinking of a move to NC so at least they'll be closer than CA. Plus DD has a baby best friend that she asks for everyday and has playdates with twice a week and that'll be sad too! Oh well, I know we will make tons of new friends. And yeah! holy third trimester! lol
