@Dandelion: oh no! Did you get an appointment? Infections are MISERABLE!
watermelon / 14206 posts
@LovelyPlum: They tried to get me in, but they were booked. She said urgent care is fine. DS and I were planning a day or errands anyways, so we'll just add it to our list. We have to go to the planetarium first, though, of course, lol.

@Dandelion: good call. I thought I remembered you being in/around the SC side of Charlotte. I really like Charlotte and NC in general! Too bad that moving an hour away means that you'll have to deal with the pain of switching states, too-that's the only bad thing!
watermelon / 14206 posts
@LovelyPlum: I love Charlotte!
Yeah, switching states will be a pain. Mostly because of car stuff.

@Dandelion: Ugh ear infections are the worst. I had a really bad ear ache at the beginning of the 2nd tri, but my ears looked fine despite the fact that it felt like fire ripping through them lol. They said they didn't want to give me anything if my ears looked fine, so I had to deal with it by placing a hot compress on my ear and just biting the bullet.
Hopefully and yet not hopefully they find something out and can get you some meds to ease the discomfort.

@jhd: Thanks! I hope it will be nice and relaxing.
Speaking of travelling and being sick: I have developed a nice cold this last week. I know I can't really take a nasal decongestant, but I"m sort of afraid of flying with a stuffy nose. I dont want to get some ear infection or something from the pressure. I tried a neti pot last night, but it didn't really help much. Anyone have any suggestions??

@HazelEyes: you can take a Benadryl before your flight. It's safe during pregnancy that's what I did a few months ago and it really dried me up
clementine / 811 posts
@luckypenny: thanks! I actually just called my doctor's office and they apparently have instructions for all sorts of ailments for pregnant women on their website: http://nvpwomen.com/files/pregnancy-instructions.pdf

@HazelEyes: yeah my nurse suggested a nettipot but those freak me out so I just went for the hard stuff lol

@luckypenny: @LovelyPlum: @Dandelion: moving/looking for a new place is tough. thinking of you ladies! i'm sure everything will work out
@Dandelion: i hope you feel better!
@HazelEyes: @luckypenny: i think the netti pots are kinda freaky too but i got the other one...it's just a squeeze bottle. i use it every once in a while. it works, but i'd probably still take a benadryl before flying. flying while congested is just no fun!

@LovelyPlum: That's so frustrating to have to go through especially right now! My husband and I were going to move in April but pushed it to June with the baby. Still stressful knowing I can't nest like I want to- I feel your frustration!
@Dandelion: hope you feel better!
eggplant / 11408 posts
@Dandelion: and taxes. Ugh-freakin taxes. I hate nothing more than filing partial year residency forms. I'm so excited because I don't have to do it this year!
@HazelEyes: have such a good time! And my doctor said I could take plain Robitussin, the kind that just has guaifenesin, in it. It's an expectorant and should help to loosen any mucus you've got going on. I took it all last week, and it was a lifesaver!
@HazelEyes: @luckypenny: @jhd: netti pots freak me out, too! Wasn't there something in the news a few years ago about them causing some sort of damage if done incorrectly? In general, I stick to saline spray.
@jhd: I thought about you! Lucky girl-you had your move already I know it will be for the best, but I was just so angry over the whole thing. But now we have an appointment to see a place on Monday-I'm excited!
@MrsSpadusa: ugh-lots of people moving with little bitties! I'm sorry I think my nesting instinct will now come out via full-force purge and clean. Look out, junk drawer!
grapefruit / 4582 posts
@LovelyPlum: I was just telling DH that it feels good to t least have a solution and I can't wait to turn my nesting instincts into purge mode! We plan on selling almost all our furniture and half our clothes. DD is getting a serious toy purge too.
eggplant / 11408 posts
@luckypenny: I get a sick sense of satisfaction from doing that. I plan on unleashing my pent-up rage on both my obscene collections of old pens and old toiletries tonight. I feel like it's going to be good
I meant to ask, I know that you said that you all were going to have a budget shortfall a while back. Does this take away that stress, at least? I hope so!
grapefruit / 4582 posts
@LovelyPlum: yup! New job offer is DOUBLE DHs salary!! So even with cost of living increase with 2nd baby/childcare/NYC in general, we can live the same as we were before. It's a really great career move and huge promotion for him so we are both super excited.

@LovelyPlum: I have been purging like crazy in our little apartment lately. I think it's my version of nesting haha. But I feel like I can't get things organized with so much extra STUFF everywhere. Getting rid of things is also making me unreasonably happy.
@luckypenny: congratulations on the new job offer for your DH! That is super exciting and scary all at once.
@jhd: I'm finding pregnancy + teaching to be pretty difficult. No idea how nurses do it! We finished our semester yesterday, and I have a full day of no kids on Tuesday to prep for the new semester and I am ridiculously excited. Actual time to eat lunch! Peeing whenever I need to! Sitting down!

Hope all you ladies are having a lovely weekend I slept in all the way until 6:30 (haha) this morning so I'm feeling pretty refreshed!
My husband's working today, but has a comp day Monday so we're making the drive south to Ikea to pick out a crib!

@gilmoregirl: yes it is definitely harder than I thought it would be! Good luck with the start of semester prep. We started our new semester this week & I'm hoping I will get adjusted to my new schedule quickly. ;). Enjoy your Ikea trip & extra time with your DH

@gilmoregirl: thanks lady! Yeah, we are all a bunch of nerves over here but I think I'm 90% excited and only 10% terrified lol

Hope everyone had a good weekend. Just when I was starting to get anxious about not feeling the baby enough (I have anterior placenta), I have felt him tons these past three days and DH finally finally got to feel him kick on Sat am. Made my whole weekend!
olive / 70 posts
@gilmoregirl: I can tell you tell nursing and being pregnant is not easy! but my coworkers were helping me all the time and understood if I needed to sit down for a few or just go eat something. I don't know if I could handle being a teacher and working with kids while having pregnancy hormones. That would take a lot of patience!!!
@jhd: thats always exciting to feel them move around a lot. I'm glad that it made your weekend!:)

A little bit of an update- Friday I had a little bit of a headache in the AM that the drs freaked out about. SO I was rushed to L&D ICU and got to spend all morning and part of my afternoon there. Even though I was fine. Evidently having preeclampsia on the diagnosis list means that I can't have a headache at all. I've been doing fine since and have been actually able to catch up on my sleep finally. My liver enzymes have been trending up and just went down today so hopefully things are evening out. Just trying to take it one day at a time and keep my spirits up, Im just hoping to eek out a few more weeks of this pregnancy at the least….

@gilmoregirl: Having fun picking out a crib! For fun!
@MrsSpadusa: Glad you are ok. Hopefully baby will bake a little longer and that you will feel better.
It finally happened--I slipped in the parking lot at work. It wasn't a slipped and fell hard fall. It was quite possibly the slowest and most drawn out fall in the entire universe. I was getting out of my car, and as soon as my foot hit the ground (which was obviously a sheet of ice under the snow) my foot came out from under me. I managed to grab on to the car door somehow (I can't remember), and slide down the length of the car door and onto my butt.
I let a nurse know and didn't know if they would want me in to get checked on. It wasn't a hard fall. My right butt cheek does hurt a little and my left leg is going to develop a slight bruise from hitting the door, but nothing happened to my belly and it was a lighter fall. Baby is active despite the fall, so I am taking that as a good sign. Of course this would happen one week before my appointment AND on the day of my glucose testing. Why not? Lol.
grapefruit / 4582 posts
@MrsSpadusa: oh man! I'm glad you both are doing okay!!
@megz06: I fell down the stairs (like 5 of them) all on my butt, but it was the scariest thing! I'm glad you're okay now!
coconut / 8079 posts
@MrsSpadusa: oh no! i hope you are feeling better today. @megz06: i'm terrified of falling. that must have been scary. but i'm glad you are ok!
apricot / 335 posts
@luckypenny: @jhd: Thanks ladies. I am ok apart from some minor discomfort in my hips and butt. My doctor gave me a hug and told me to quit falling, lol. She said unless I am having bleeding or contractions I should be ok since I didn't hit my stomach.
eggplant / 11408 posts
@luckypenny: that is fantastic. Seriously, amazing news! I'm sorry that you have to move so closely to the baby being born, but what a great opportunity.
@jhd: how exciting! I love it when DH can feel baby move.
@gilmoregirl: I hope that your IKEA trip goes well! We're doing a big one in a few weeks. And I agree, it's crazy hard being with students all day (even though I'm not in the classroom, but the office). I'm exhausted when I get home!
@MrsSpadusa: my mom is a nurse and worked throughout all of her pregnancies. I called her the other day and told her that I had no idea how she did it! // Also, I'm so sorry about your L+D trip. I had one last night, actually, and it was scary. I had a lot of pelvic pressure and some dizzy spells, so my doctor wanted me to come in. Cervix is high, thick, and closed, so that's good. But it made me anxious for the real deal!
@megz06: I'm so sorry about your fall! I hope that you're OK. My fall last week was really rough-I hope that you're not too sore tomorrow!
So, looks like we may have found an apartment. Keep your fingers crossed that we get it! Hope you are all having a good holiday!

We are ready! I got the rest of LO's gear from my parents' house today. It's not assembled, but it's all here. I'm going to assemble them slowly, so that the animals start getting used to something new going on.
watermelon / 14206 posts
Also, I'm really tired...even when I get to sleep in I'm tired. Ugh.
grapefruit / 4582 posts
@LovelyPlum: fingers crossed you get the apartment!!
@Dandelion: Eek! How exciting that you've got everything! And I feel you on the tired front. This third trimester is kicking my butt already and it has just started! Not sure how I'm going to make it
Also, my girlfriend just sent out my sprinkle e-vites and I have a slight problem with the wording. I made it clear I didn't want any presents but if people insist I'd prefer gift cards, especially because we are moving and team green and I don't want to have to worry about returning/exchanging things. Well at the bottom of the invite it says "The ___ family would appreciate gift cards". AH! I feel like it sounds rude and we are asking for $$.
Can a paperless post evite wording be changed after its sent out? What could it say instead? Should I just ask that she add "in lieu of gifts" or what?
watermelon / 14206 posts
@luckypenny: I've used evite before, and you can update a message and have it go back out to the invitees.
watermelon / 14206 posts
@luckypenny: No...it says "update to invitation for [event]" or something similar
eggplant / 11408 posts
@luckypenny: eek. I don't know what I would do-I'm sorry! Did you decide to change the wording?
@Dandelion: that's so awesome that you're ready! We are 100% the opposite of ready-we have pretty much nothing. Although, since we're moving soon, it's probably not a terrible thing. We'll be able to get into the new place and do baby stuff as soon as we get in there.
So I found out last night why I had a fever when I went to L+D-the head cold from hell is here. I took a gamble and took a decongestant I had at home last night because I had to do something. Today I'm going to run to the store and get some pregnancy safe stuff and a new humidifier, since ours broke. Until then, hot showers and bed for me!
watermelon / 14206 posts
So, restless leg syndrome is not a fun thing. I was soooo tired last night (which I read it something that RLS stems from...very ironic) and I just couldn't get to sleep because my leg wanted to kick my DH, lol. It finally settled down, but I didn't end up with much sleep. But, I did go back to sleep after taking DS to school and now I'm drinking a second cup of coffee, so hopefully that'll hold me over until tonight.
persimmon / 1273 posts
@Dandelion: Oh gosh, that sounds awful. I'm about to hit the coffee again too. I woke up at 4 with crazy hip pain and just never managed to go back to sleep. Fortunately, we ended up with a snow day, so I can take it easy, but UGH. Hope you get some breaks in your day too.
eggplant / 11408 posts
@Dandelion: ew, I'm so sorry. That sounds awful. I hope you can get some sleep tonight!
@gilmoregirl: hooray for snow days! I have had the crappiest couple of nights of sleep this week-as in, 3 hours sometimes seems like a good long stretch. I console myself by thinking, maybe this is good practice for the newborn days??
watermelon / 14206 posts
@LovelyPlum: no its not. Because in newborn phase you really CAN sleep while baby sleeps...at least at night! You don't get the discomfort and insomnia like you do in pregnancy. Newborns are tiresome but at least you have your body back to being capable of feeling human.
eggplant / 11408 posts
@Dandelion: so I might actually get to sleep then??? Sounds awesome!
