April 2014 Mamas!

@LovelyPlum: I can't even imagine. I can't think straight at all! this afternoon I spent two hours working on lessons for the next few days because my brain is working so slowly!

@jhd: yeah, my brain hurts, I am not going to lie. This semester is better than last, surprisingly, because I'm more familiar with the topics we're discussing. But after class last night, my advisor told me that I was excused for the rest of the semester with the exception of a final paper, and I wanted to kiss him. So then it's just two other classes that I have to deal with, and both of them excused me from attendance as well. Still work to do, but work is so much better at home and on my own time! Besides, it will give me something to do during 3 am feedings

I'm beginning to sound like a broken record over here, but please indulge me...

I hate being sick. I'm over it, over it, over it. Last night, I coughed so hard that I started having contractions. I had two asthmatic episodes, and even my inhaler couldn't stop me wheezing. I even called the on-call doctor to make sure that I wasn't cutting off baby's oxygen. She said I wasn't, but she wants me to be seen today.

...which is a good thing, because when I looked at the inside of my mouth in the mirror in the middle of the night, I realized that my tonsils are swollen, and my mouth is covered in red bumps. So in addition, I'm pretty sure that my classmate gave me strep. No wonder my throat has been killing me.

Oh, and my mom has pink eye, so if baby comes today, she can't be here.

Did I mention that I'm due today and that I contracted all night? Seriously, is this real life???

@LovelyPlum: I felt like that the day before my c section. That morning I felt totally fine. Maybe this is just pre labor stuff

@Dandelion: maybe!!! That would be a nice treat at the end of all of this nonsense

@LovelyPlum: aww honey!! I am so sorry I feel ya. E and I are both sick with coughs and runny noses so I'm super paranoid that baby L is going to her sick. I really hope this baby comes soon for you and that you can get healthy first! Either way, baby will get your antibodies from nursing. You're so close!

L has been sleeping like a champ and DH did the middle of the night feeling so I pretty much got 6 hours of sleep last night! I'm taking Vicodin because the pain from these cramps are so intense. They feel like contractions and have made me cry twice. On top of that, we are going through drama with MIL (who is usually my BFF and great). I can't even get into because it's too long to type on my phone but it's making me really sad. Anyways, I'm off to shower before DH takes E to Gymboree class.

@luckypenny: Sorry for the drama. I think it's 100x worse when it comes from people you least expect. Especially right now, with the hormones a-raging.

@preggomeggo82: it is! I just feel...disappointed. And I was really counting on her because guess what, my mom LEFT THE COUNTRY and didn't tell me so I couldn't talk to her before, during and not even a day until after L was born. I was so upset and not both of my "Moms" have let me down.

    eggplant / 11408 posts

@MrsKoala: @preggomeggo82: @tbuzz: @luckypenny: thanks ladies. Unfortunately, I was right-I have a raging case of strep, along with a chest cold. The good news is that DH's strep culture came back negative, and now I am on some heavy-duty meds to try to nip this in the bud ASAP. But I do still feel kinda lousy. Some timing, huh?

@luckypenny: yay for newborn sleep! I'm so sorry that your mamas let you down, though. That is so hurtful and disappointing. I hope that you can get things sorted out with them soon. But your mom left the country without saying anything?! I get that she doesn't live near you, but GEEZ.

And I'm not ready to call it just yet, but I think something *may* be happening. When the doctor checked me today, I was at a 4 and a half ( ) and she said that she would be shocked if I made it to Monday. After we left the office, DH and I went to get our medicine and have lunch. Well the contractions got stronger and stronger, and they've been getting that way all night. The problem is, they're not terribly consistent-sometimes, they're 90 seconds apart, but sometimes it's more like 5 minutes. I took a shower and am now laying down, but they're still here. So I guess we'll see. I'm uninterested in going to the hospital again until I'm really, really sure, so I think I'll be at home for a while. I'll keep you posted!

@LovelyPlum: ok I'm not sure I can make it past this week so I'm glad she is there already. Today was rough--I'm having major back pain but I'm pretty certain it's not labor or anything!

I didn't get the chance to cross post but Imogen Agnes joined us at 8:10 am today after15 hours of labor. I ended up with an epi, vacuum assist and small episiotomy, but I feel pretty good. And she is just perfect

Went to my OB appt this am. Cervix is thinned but not dilated at all. Been having back pain & contractions since Wed. My OB is out of town Sat & Sun so I'm not in a big hurry but hoping little man will make an appearance sometime soon! Was going to try to work next week, but at this point I'm not sure I can. I took yesterday & today off. We are getting lovely spring weather & we're going to buy a patio set this weekend!

@luckypenny: how are you? Is E enjoying getting to know her baby sister?

  24. preggomeggo82

    apricot / 355 posts

@LovelyPlum: I missed this! Congratulations! That name is just adorable!

My feet are officially out of control. I will be in flip flops for the rest of my pregnancy. Only things that fit. My boss offered to discuss working from home if I start getting too uncomfortable, but I don't think I am quite there yet. We'll see after my 39w doctor's appointment Monday, I guess.

  25. luckypenny

@jhd: I hope you can take the week off and rest new patio furniture sounds nice! I took L outside on our deck so we could both get some fresh air and vitamin D and it totally relaxed me and improved my mood.

E loves her sister! She's almost too excited to touch her so we are working on being gentle and touching just her body lol

Last night seemed on track to be the night from hell, especially when E woke up at 5!! But then at 6 we all fell back asleep and took a 3 hour nap so we are all rested and happy today. L is a much more sensitive baby than E was. If she's not totally swaddled and full, she is not happy. But when she's happy she sleeps great and loves to just look around at everything

@luckypenny: hi there-we're doing well! We can't wait to go home, though. All things considered, I feel great. Honestly, getting the baby out was a relief, but as soon as I delivered the placenta I felt a million times better. I'm pretty sure that I'm one of those women who pregnancy just doesn't always treat kindly. But it was SO worth it, because she's awesome.

I'll have to write out my birth story soon, but it's a lot to process. I go back and forth as to whether I had the experience that I wanted or not. The staff was amazing, and my doctor was able to deliver her, but in some ways, I felt a little disappointed in myself that I wasn't able to do more. I caved on pretty much everything: the epidural, the vacuum, and I felt so out of control so much of the time. I was really sick, though, and my hips gave me a lot of trouble, not to mention the fact that the epi didn't work completely the first time. But I'm really proud of the fact that I only pushed for an hour and that I got her out despite being injured. I'm also really proud of how I've been doing postpartum, especially that we've been able to nurse so far I can't believe it's over, that I'm not pregnant anymore, and that I don't know the next time that I will be. Less than 36 hours ago, I was, and now everything is different. Good, but different. But now she's here, and she's so worth it

@jhd: good news on the progress! And I agree, if you can, stay home next week. Being so pregnant and uncomfortable is hard enough on its own without adding teenagers into the mix! Enjoy your weather and your patio set. It's gorgeous here today, but I'm stuck inside. Can't wait to get out of here and go home tomorrow!

@preggomeggo82: ugh, swollen feet is the worst. Mine got out of control at 38 weeks, and they still haven't gone back. I'm glad that you at least have the option of not going in to work. My first day of leave was actually the day I went into labor, so not much lead time, but mentally preparing for a break was a huge weight off of my shoulders. Take it easy!

@luckypenny: I'm so glad that E and L are doing well! I bet it's fabulous to see them together. And hooray for rest-we're sorely in need over here. I was up for almost 40 hours before, during, and after D-day, and I only got 3-4 hours yesterday. But we're getting to take it easy, which is nice. Miss Ginny is currently sleeping after deciding to make me a human pacifier for 2 hours earlier today, so I'm hoping to get some time to chill while she's out!

@preggomeggo82: that's great you have the option to WAH if needed! I hope you have some comfy flip flops! That happened to my sis. I have some swelling but it's not too bad yet in my feet...besides I only wear flats & tennis shoes anyway!
ETA how are you feeling otherwise?

@LovelyPlum: I hope you can get some good rest. You have definitely been through a lot. I'm sure there were parts of it that were different than what you expected but you did awesome! I hope Miss G lets you get a little sleep for now!

@jhd: Other than puffy, I feel pretty good. I've started having some mld contractions, but super far apart and inconsistent, so it's not exactly Baby Watch just yet. My coworkers are convinced that I won't make it to my due date (week from Sunday) but I'm not so sure. You can walk around dropped, dilated, and effaced forevvvvver with nothing else going on, ya know?

I want to see how my 39w appointment goes, and then I will decide about working at home. My boss is super accomodating, which is helpful.

    coconut / 8079 posts

@preggomeggo82: feeling better today than I did wed or thurs! my back hasn't hurt at all until this week but I guess it's to be expected at this stage. and I'm just plain tired. I think my plan of working until baby comes is unrealistic and that makes me a little disappointed in myself. Oh well! At this point I'm just ready to meet baby. He can hang out a little longer if he wants but really really hoping he doesn't make me wait past the due date, especially since he's been measuring ahead since the beginning!

@jhd: I know the feeling. I wanted to be this pregnant woman warrior and work until I went into labor, but it's getting harder everyday. I feel like it takes me forever to haul myself from the parking lot to my desk, and I am SO DISTRACTED.

And just beyond ready to meet this little guy! I want to squeeze him! I'm enjoying having him all to myself for the next little bit, but I wouldn't mind someone else carrying him for a bit either.

@preggomeggo82: I love it! "Pregnant woman warrior" I had all these hopes of working til the very end, going to the gym, etc. and maybe that works for some people but I definitely have not been one of those preggo ladies just bursting with good health & energy!!! and I hear you on the distracted-ness. I can't focus on anything!!

Hi all! Congratulations to all you new mamas!!
@LovelyPlum: @luckypenny: I love that both of you team greeners had girls!!

Sorry I 've been a bit MIA lately, C's NST came back positive for MCAD deficiency so we've been kind of a mess over here! Our appointment with the children's hospital to run tests and get a final answer is on Monday, so I'm really hoping that it was a false positive and Monday will be all good news.

Today has been good so far though, we're adjusting to this new crappy sleep/eat schedule and last night and this morning have definitely gone better that the night before. Yay for small victories!
