@SunshineMcC: I don't think it's silly! I think it's awesome! I have a talk booked with my boss the day after my NT scan, because I need to do a maternity proposal anyway. He thinks it's a follow-up to a review, lol. He hates it when people get pregnant, and his entire staff is women of child-bearing age, so it happens all the time.

@SunshineMcC: Yes! I'm excited to have one, just in like 2 weeks after our NT scan and we tell everyone!

A dear friend directed me to this site rather than some of the others, and I'm so glad she did.
I'm due April 14, with TWINS! I'm 10 weeks today, and generally feeling okay other than some low level nausea. Excited to read through these posts and get to know some of my fellow mamas. I'm 36 and will be (hopefully) a first-time mom. Thank you!

@infertilish: Hi, welcome! We have quite a few twin mamas due in April!

@infertilish: congrats and welcome! this board and these ladies are really amazing!
SO, just got off the phone with the insurance and they're requiring more info to let me know if they'll cover the MaterniT21 testing - my doc had recommended doing it at the same time as the NT scan and first tri screening, but insurance is pushing back - so I may have to wait on the results of the first trimester screening before seeing if insurance will cover -otherwise I think it's like $2K out of pocket.

@infertilish: welcome & congratulations!!!
@SunshineMcC: umm, yeah my doc mentioned it at the end of my appointment today like he just assumed I was going to get it (to know the gender early I'm guessing since we didn't so any testing last time) & I looked it up with our PPO it's still $200 & out of pocket it's $2,800!! We won't be getting it done lol

@Rockies11: Your bump is so perfectly round. I hope mine gets there soon. Right now it just looks like I'm fat.
@infertilish: Welcome! I'm due with twins on April 11th. I'm anxious for my visit next week to make sure they're both still there. I haven't seen them since week 8. We had two other twin mamas on this board but sadly each of them has lost one already. I don't say that to worry you, but so as to respect their losses and not have you ask them about their twins by accident. When did you see your two little beans last?
@SunshineMcC: Call the company itself. Most of them have a set rate they charge in the event that your insurance doesn't cover it which is much less than they charge your insurance. I've heard of some companies charging as low as $250-$300 out of pocket. I love that you get to find out gender on that one.

@marionberry: you look like you have a bump to me! Not many people carry weight only in their uterus lol
pea / 6 posts
@marionberry: Congratulations! Thank you for letting me know. I walked Infertility Road for many years, so I hope I'm sensitive to that kind of thing by now. That said, I've literally been on this board for all of five minutes, and I would hate to say something stupid. I'm planning on following the rule I follow in real life - just read and listen for awhile at first til you get a sense of how things work around here before jumping in and running your mouth!
I last saw the beans last week (week 9). They were conceived via IVF, so I have been monitored pretty closely. I go in to the clinic one more time a week from today, and then I go over to regular OB. They have looked good all along, but by no means do I take any of it for granted. I know from experience that it can all change in an instant. So I'm hoping to see them both on Tuesday, but I lost my one pair of rose-colored glasses back in 2011, so nothing will surprise me! I'm so sad to hear about the losses; it is so devastating. Thank you for keeping me in the loop. And thank you, everyone else, for the warm welcome!

@AnonySquire @Infertilish: Welcome to the April Mamas board and congratulations! Some of the ladies on here were disappointed early on that we didn't seem to have as many expectant mamas as some of the other due date twin boards, but we really seem to be filling up. Plus, everyone is so nice and supportive.

So, my boss asked me today if I'd like to attend a conference here in town the first week of March. It's a 3 day conference with some really interesting subject matter (at least for the first two days). The problem is that the days are super long (8 am - 6 pm) and that I will be 8 months pregnant by then. Also, I haven't told my boss yet - waiting til the end of the month or early next month. I'm not really showing yet - even though I ask my husband every night if he notices anything - really, I'm the only one who can tell, even though some of my pants don't fit properly. I'm lucky that my work uniform is really baggy and concealing, because it sounds like some of you are trying to jump though hoops to hide the pregnancy a little while longer.
Anyway, with the conference, I'm wondering if any of you second time moms could share how you felt about long days of sitting in one spot for up to two hours. I said I'd go, but they are flexible enough that someone could take my spot later if I'm not able to.
persimmon / 1363 posts
@Astro Bee: I def couldn't have done it at 8 months! I had trouble sitting for very long at all even at 7 months. And I was really tired again at 8 months.

@marionberry: good idea! The insurance company said they'd need a description of why I need it, medical records, etc. and can take 30 days for a determination so that timeframe won't work. I have good insurance so hoping for good news when I call the company!
@infertilish: congrats on being here after IVF! What a journey! DH & I went through several rounds of IUI's, but none were successful. Our docs recommended IVF as our next step. We didn't feel ready for it, so took a break and got PG on our own. you must be SO excited about twins! Can't wait to learn more!

@SunshineMCC: Ugh! Dealing with insurance companies sounds like such a pain! If there's something that my doctor says is necessary, then I get the treatment, no questions asked. Not sure if it's the same for the rest of Canada, but that's how it works through our military medical system.
@Loki: How does OHIP cover additional tests? If you needed additional chromosomal testing or amnio, would you have to call OHIP first to check, or would they relie on your doctor's assessment? I figure I'll eventually have to learn these things when I deal with LO's doctor.

@infertilish: welcome and congrats! So glad to have another April mama

@Rockies11: That's what I was afraid of. Oh well, I'll leave it be. I really don't want to have the conversation yet about why I don't think I can go now. My boss is hugely indiscrete when it comes to personal info. He once told me so-and-so were going for infertility treatments!!! And they hadn't told me. I told him how inappropriate I thought that and other revelations were, so I'm waiting until I have to tell everyone to say anything. Hence, the waiting until early next month, possibly.

@Rockies11: Thanks! I'm assuming all the other provinces would be the same then. We're planning to stay in Ontario for awhile. I forget where you are, Alberta maybe, given the name?
persimmon / 1363 posts
@Astro Bee: There are some differences in coverage from province to province (although not much), but they don't refer you for further testing unless it's covered. There are some options that aren't covered that the American ladies are talking about if it's an issue, but they're a lot cheaper here - like a couple hundred bucks versus a couple thousand. I had a friend who had her anatomy scan reveal a single umbilical artery, which is associated with genetic defects. They opted to do one of the blood tests that wasn't covered (I think it was the Maternity21?) but it was like much less expensive than what I had seen the American ladies say it was. I had another friend in Ontario with a really rare mutation of her uterus and cervix over the course of her pregnancy, and they did many many different tests and crazy things like fly in American specialists to examine her, which was all covered. We are in Alberta!

Okay, here's my photo! DH thinks it's just bloat, but a gal can wish, right? 11 weeks today

@infertilish: My first was born via IUI so I definitely get where you're coming from. That makes your twins that much more special. Yay!
@Astro Bee: I definitely wouldn't be signing up for any conferences in March. You're so uncomfortable by then that it would be the last thing I would want to do. But I guess it depends on whether it is something you'd really like to attend.
@SunshineMcC: That's bump for sure!

Hey ladies I'm on holiday right now so spotty internet , but had a quick follow up and ultrasound and thankfully everything looked great and the baby had a heartbeat and was the right size. Woo hoo longest pregnancy this year!

@Mrs. Sunshine: yeah for a great scan but you didn't join me at the end of the month!
@Jenn23: awesome news about baby!
@NeekieRose: oh man after dinner tonight I thought I was getting a bump. Pretty sure it's just bloat since I'm only 8w. However I imagine I'll get big quickly since it's #2. Unfortunately I gave all my mat clothes to my SIL who is now 8 months pregnant. I feel awkward asking for some pants back cause we haven't told family yet that we are expecting.
@Rockies11: you are rocking an awesome bump!
@infertilish: welcome to the board and congrats on twins!
@Banana330: congrats on a great scan!

@lulu22: How did your appointment go? Hoping you have some answers as to what you've been feeling!
To all the ladies who posted their bumps- you guys look adorable! Are yours there all day long? I feel like right now my tummy is flat when I wake up and much bigger by night time which makes me well aware its just bloat!
@infertilish: Welcome! I am one of the ladies who lost a twin. I also conceived with IVF, we had 2 heart beats at 7 weeks then only 1 at 9 weeks. It was sad to see but we are doing well! Just more nervous than ever that something will happen to my little bean left now. Hoping for the best. But I am still SO excited for you and @marionberry and really am happy to follow your journeys:)

12 weeks today! Hip hip hooray! Going to tell a few girlfriends today and then announce some time next week assuming our NT goes well.
Everyone looks fabulous!

@infertilish: welcome! Super exciting about twins! I'm glad everything is going well so far.
@Astro Bee: I went to a conference last time in my 9th month. It was only 2 days, but it really wasn't an issue. My pregnancy was pretty easy though. I wouldn't assume that you can't do it and I definitely don't think you need to tell your boss yet about the pregnancy. Only time will tell how you will be towards the end of the pregnancy.
@Banana330: Yah for a good ultrasound!

@Mrs.Pinecone316: Oh, I just want to give you a hug. I am so glad you are feeling well, and I'm thinking of you and your sweet little bean. IF is so hard, IVF is so hard, and you keep thinking "if I can just get past this hurdle, I will relax a little," but um, it just seems to get more and more nerve-wracking! Thank you for your well wishes and I am really happy to be here!
