@SunshineMcC: Whoa, you saw the baby move from the outside?? How far along are you again?
kiwi / 563 posts
@ineebee: I know, it was crazy - today is 21 weeks. DH had the doppler on my belly, and was trying to find the heartbeat, then all of a sudden saw a jump/movement on the outside - we couldn't believe it! I hadn't seen or felt anything on the outside yet, so was so amazed to see it - he might've been annoyed at the doppler pressing on him, not sure - was really neat.

@anonysquire: thanks! i am obsessed with Willa right now. I almost bought a W for her room the other day but thought i should probably wait on that haha.
@SunshineMcC: that is SO crazy and amazing! my friend i 5 weeks ahead and sent me a video last night of her baby moving! it was nuts. i can't wait for that to happen, i'll be 21 weeks on thursday and still only feel minor little blips here and there.

@SunshineMcC: SOOOO...I just had some candy and felt the little guy moving, and my students had left so I thought, "Hmm! Let's take a look!" And I saw him move too!!!!! It was unreal!!!

@brownie: haha well...I was having contractions with LO 1 but I didn't even realize that's what they were. I just thought I was crampy because I was pregnant (& it was the 3rd tri). I went to the hospital for an unrelated reason & they were like, "I think you're in labor, you're having a ton of contractions!". I didn't have any tightening until I was near transition. I did have tightening the other night which is why I called but still no one seems worried!

@loki: nooo - Gemma! I kid. Seriously, both Gemma and Willa are lovely names, so you can't go wrong. And Rose is great, too!
pear / 1787 posts
@meredithNYC: haha still hoping that this baby's twin is hiding behind her and i can use both cuz they'd be the cutest sister names! i love gemma too but i'm soooo obsessed with willa lately. so i call the baby willa and my husband calls her gemma. she's gonna have a complex!
kiwi / 563 posts
@ineebee: YAY!!!! So happy for you - isn't it amazing?!?!?
@loki: once she starts moving, she won't stop!!! love the names!

@anonysquire: Cute pic! Because you added a pic of your boy, I'm adding pics of my two.
I think that they might be identical because they measured exactly the same on everything and I think they look alike too. What do you guys think?
pear / 1787 posts
@marionberry: omgggg so cute!!! they look identical to me! can they not tell that until they're born? i dunno why i always assumed there was some sort of test to determine the type of twins in utero! i'm clueless though. and still so jealous of your twins
persimmon / 1386 posts
@loki: @marionberry: I'm clueless on this too! How do they determine if they are identical or not? Regardless, cute little boys!
pomelo / 5041 posts
@loki: @NeekieRose: My understanding is that they look at a few things. A) Do they have the same or differing sacs? Since mine are in different sacs it knocks their likelihood for being identical down to between 18% and 33%. Then they look at B) are they the same sex - if yes, can be identical, if no, not identical. Then C) once they are born you can have them genetically tested to see if in fact they are identical genetically - same eye color, blood type, hair color, foot, hand and ear shape can also help you pre-determine prior to a genetic test.
@anonysquire: Thank you!
kiwi / 563 posts
@marionberry: such cuties! So fun to think about whether or not they'll be identical !
pomelo / 5041 posts
@SunshineMcC: Thanks! Much more fun thinking about that than stressing about all of the things I have yet to buy for them.
persimmon / 1386 posts
@marionberry: very interesting! I thought that it was as simple as if they shared a sac or not. But I know nothing about twins!
pomelo / 5041 posts
@NeekieRose: Well neither did I until having them so you're not alone!
pear / 1787 posts
@marionberry: so fun! will you get the testing done to confirm they're identical... based on my vast knowledge of twins (mary kate & ashley olsen) i know they can look identical but still be fraternal. i think i'd totally wanna know for sure!
pomelo / 5041 posts
@loki: If they look identical we likely would at some point. It sounds like it's not very expensive.
grapefruit / 4110 posts
@loki: there is now a type of twin called semi identical. My sister and I suspect we may be semi idents instead if fraternal as my mom always told us. We just toiled too similar.
pear / 1787 posts
@brownie: oh crazy never heard of that! is it basically like fraternal twins that look identical? or is there more to it, biologically?
has anyone been shopping like crazy? i.can't.stop. heeeelp. i literally just spent all day on etsy buying stuff to give my parents so they can give it back to me for christmas haha. and it's all non essential ridiculous things, like... lace bloomers for her newborn photos... and nursery prints. and a hospital hat. i'm the worst!
pear / 1548 posts
@loki: we haven't really bought much of anything. I want to start getting stuff for the nursery, but we are still working on cleaning out all the junk that's currently in there.
I read your rocker/glider thread which was helpful! DH and I have been debating whether or not to splurge and get a nice Best chair that we saw, which is honestly the most comfortable chair I've ever sat in! I think for now we plan to put a splurge like that on the back burner and buy essentials first, then if we decide we need one later than we can buy one. Man that chair is amazing though!!
pear / 1787 posts
@Boopers: ya i SHOULD be doing that too. i started cleaning out the nursery (which is essentially our storage locker now) buuut i got lazy so i still have a long way to go! i just can't stop buying clothes and... things i do not need!
tell me about this chair!!!!
pomelo / 5041 posts
@Boopers: @loki: We have a best chair and it's fabulous! It rocks and swivels and I've fallen asleep with lo in it quite a few times. I'm going to buy another best chair for the twins room. They come in a number of styles and fabrics. It is expensive (about $600 here) but I did find the investment worth it. I'd really like to get a matching ottoman this time too if I can afford it, but it's not a must have.
I don't have a great pic of our chair, but here's one.
pear / 1787 posts
@marionberry: oh that is beautiful but donnnn't think i can swing the price! wah!
hostess / cantaloupe / 6486 posts
@marionberry: I wish we could get a Best chair. I HATE out current glider. It looks like it has a ton of space so you can hold both babies at the same time if you need to!
pomelo / 5041 posts
@loki: Ya we tried to save all over the place to make up for the chair cost but I totally understand not being able to swing it. I sat in two great chairs at Babies R Us though that I think were like $400 (including ottoman) if that helps any.
@Mrs. Sunshine: With as much time as we spend in them, a bad glider is the worst, right?! Our current chair is actually pretty wide so I think I can use it for the twins. It's maybe not as wide as I'd prefer, but pretty wide as far as chairs go.
pear / 1787 posts
@marionberry: ohhh i forget where but in my glider hunt i saw a chair that is like a double chair glider. it would be so nice with the twins to have all that room!
pear / 1548 posts
@loki: we sat in two different Best chairs, the Best Bilana and the Best Kersey. Both recline, rock, and glide. The Bilana is $600 at Buy Buy Baby and the Kersey is $500 at Babies R Us. If we had the funds I'd buy one without blinking, but unfortunately we have to prioritize and it isn't at the top of our shopping list.
nectarine / 2317 posts
@loki: @Boopers: Yay i've bought a bunch of cloth diapers, some clothes and other stuff. Nothing too crazy yet.
We're currently debating the rocker too, there's one I love but it'll end up being over $1000! but I really don't see the point in spending any $$ on a chair i hate... I'm secretly hoping my parents will buy it or split it with us!
nectarine / 2317 posts
@loki: Part of the issue with rockers/gliders is we don't have the selection that they have in the US. and prices are higher!
hostess / cantaloupe / 6486 posts
While we are on the subject, I would just like to note that LO slept in a bassinet in our room (literally pressed up against the side of my bed so I didn't have to get up lol) for like the first 6 months so we didn't even consider a glider until we moved her. I know every baby & family is different but just something to keep in mind in your considerations! If you find you need one you can always get one as the need arises
pomelo / 5041 posts
@Mrs. Sunshine: This is very true! J co-slept with me in my room for the first 3 months. You don't really need a glider until they move into their own rooms unless you use it to put him down for naps prior to that.
@Banana330: That's definitely a pain that the prices are higher and the selection is lower in Canada! I put all of my big items on my registry and our family bought us the crib and changing table which helped us buy the chair. It's a good idea.
hostess / cantaloupe / 6486 posts
@marionberry: that's a great point about family helping to pay! No one would have been able to spring for a $600 dollar chair but I bet I could have gotten more than half paid for if I asked my parents & grandma to help out! People want to help you more than you think; don't be shy to say something if you're asked!

My results came in and were not good. Strangely enough I did not end up screening positive for t18 but I did screen positive for Turner's Syndrome. Not exactly the way we wanted to find out we were having a girl. Our genetic counsellor tells me that the predictive value for these sex chromosome disorders is not super high so there is a chance baby doesn't have TS. I'll have an amnio in the morning and get preliminary results by Tuesday. Now I wish I had just done the amnio two weeks ago. Anyways I will likely continue to be quiet here until I know results for sure. We are still trying to process everything and I'm nervous about the amnio.
pomelo / 5041 posts
@delight: Thinking of you and your daughter! I'm glad the amnio will give you final answers.
