@delight: I'm so sorry you didn't get good news. ((((hugs)))) Thinking positive thoughts for your little one!!!!

I haven't been on here in forever. We moved almost three weeks ago and with the move and taking care of my 2 yr old, it has been pure chaos around here.

I had my anatomy scan today (20 weeks tomorrow) and baby girl looked good. However, the perinatal doc came to talk to my husband and I and said I am at high risk for placenta accreta. She explained it (and I've since googled it at home) and I'm totally freaked out. I go back in a month to see if I have it. I hope not! Anybody here at risk for it or know anything about this? Scary stuff.

    Hope everyone is doing well.

@Jenn23: Never heard of it before. Did they say what makes you high risk? I googled it and it does sound scary, but rare i'm guessing?

  7. marionberry

    pomelo / 5041 posts

@Jenn23: I hadn't heard of this condition specifically, perhaps write a board post on it for others to chime in? It sounds like the primary risk is to you as the mom. Are you guys planning on having more kids after this?

@delight: I am so sorry you didn't get the results you were hoping for. We are all thinking of you and hope you can pop in when you feel up to it. Big hugs

@Jenn23: Eek! I hadn't heard about that condition either but just Googled it. She said that you are at a high risk, but has it been officially diagnosed? I hope that despite the risk that things turn out well!

I had an appointment today and it went well. I've been having aches and pains, but it sounds like everything I'm feeling is pretty typical during pregnancy. The round ligament pain is still driving me crazy. Does it get any better or should I just resign myself to the fact that it will burn and hurt until April?

I have my one hour glucose test next month. I'm glad I don't have to fast beforehand. Second time moms, how was the GD testing experience for you all?

@Boopers: I remember my RLP going away, that being said, I have woken up crying out in pain from turning over in bed the wrong way & hurting myself several times. I feel like it hurts way worse this go around (& my doctor actually said it probably does) but it did eventually go away. Too bad I don't remember when...
As far as GD testing goes, it's went well. Some doctors do the 1 hour screen first but mine did the 3 hour screen right off the bat. I had to fast all night & morning & I went in around 830 am, I think. The drink wasn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be. The worst part was sitting around for blood draws in the waiting room! It was nothing horrible though & I had a huge delicious breakfast at Dennys after

    nectarine / 2317 posts

@Boopers: mines scheduled for jan! They said to eat normally, but avoid really sugary foods right before. Mines first thing too so I may end up fasting.

I'm having lots pains too. Had one that lasted on and off for 12 hrs. My midwife aside it's probably growing pains, but if they get worse to call. She also measured my belly with a measuring tape, apparently you should roughly correspond weeks to cm, I was right on, even though I don't feel like I'm that big! I did kind of pop a bit this week. She also recommended a support belt for my sciatica pains.

  11. Boopers

    pear / 1548 posts

@Banana330: interesting about the measuring. I'm 23 weeks and measured 21 cm. My doctor also said the same thing about nothing too sugary before the test.

  12. Banana330

    nectarine / 2317 posts

@Boopers: she said weeks + or - 1-2cm is the normal range

  13. marionberry

    pomelo / 5041 posts

@Boopers: my provider does the 1 hr screen. The drink isn't that appetizing but no big deal. I ate eggs and sausage that morning to ensure my sugar count would be low. I'm nervous this time around since twin pregnancies are at higher risk for gd supposedly.

This might be a little personal but has anyone else completely lost their sex drive? I feel fine, it's not because of sickness or issues with my pregnant body or anything I just literally don't want to have sex at all, ever. It's really starting to hurt DH'S feelings but at this point I can't even pretend to be into it & then get into the mood once we've started, I just have no mood anymore. My Ovia app keeps suggesting that it should be the exact opposite....

  15. loki

    pear / 1787 posts

@Mrs. Sunshine: hahahaha we haven't had sex since we conceived. literally. DH just says we're asexual now. sorry buddy. we're going on vacation in january soooo hopefully i can force myself then. i've been SO sick, SO tired & so miserable so he'd be nuts to assume i would be into that. luckily he's understanding and doesn't seem to mind too much.

  16. marionberry

    pomelo / 5041 posts

@Mrs. Sunshine: Same here! Add in fighting this cold or that cold or ds's cold and it has been even worse. DH understands but I'll try to get in the mood soon. The bigger I get it really won't happen!

Thanks, ladies. I'm at high risk due to an abdominal myomectomy, then a C-section so I have lots of scar tissue from those two surgeries. I have an anterior placenta which is up against the previous scars so that's not good. I will be monitored monthly for this and if I am diagnosed with it, then we are looking at a 36 week scheduled C-section, along with a hysterectomy on the spot. The scares are the loss of blood and possibly death. Yikes! At least the baby is fine and will be fine even if I do have this condition.

No, we aren't having any more kids ( two expensive IVF babies are it for us!) so I don't care about the potential hysterectomy. So at least that part isn't a concern.

  20. loki

    pear / 1787 posts

@Jenn23: i've never heard of this at all but it's good to know you're going to be closely monitored and there's a chance you might not have it. better to catch it now and have a plan of attack in place than not know, right? i'll thinking of you and hoping you don't actually have it and baby can go to full term!

@Delight: My thoughts are with you and your family at this time. Hoping for better news once the full results come in.

@Jenn23: Just looked it up, as I'd never heard of it before. It does sound scary! Glad that they will be monitoring you.

@Mrs. Sunshine: @Loki: @Marionberry: We've had sex 3x since the BFP, less than once a month. We haven't had sex this infrequently since the months before we got his PTSD under control. That was 4 1/2 yrs ago. It's either been the exhaustion, morning (evening) sickness, colds (mine and his) or busy schedules that come in the way. We also get up at or before 6 am for work, so that cuts out weekdays. I did have a blip of desire last Saturday night, but we ended up going to a movie and then I was too tired when we got home. Soooo glad it's not just me/us.

    pomelo / 5041 posts

@Jenn23: I'm glad they're monitoring you so carefully. Are you being managed by an OB or MFM?
@astrobee: I'm going to start telling my DH I'm not the only one after hearing from you too. I think my DH thinks we're the only couple not dtd multiple times a week.

Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers. We have a fetal echo and another ultrasound next Friday and will get our results from amnio then. We are keeping busy and will decorate this weekend for Christmas because life goes on. I also know that there is a chance that I will carry this baby girl to term and she will end up being a happy and healthy little girl with just a little bit different chromosomal makeup so I'm trying to keep positive. I feel her move now which is both difficult at times and uplifting because only 1% of TS babies survive to birth so she already is a fighter. I'll update next week.

@delight: I know its late but praying for you guys!!!

Hey everyone, when are you scheduled to take your glucose test? I'm pretty sure mine is next appointment but honestly can't remember. I'm just supposed to eat a normal meal for me 2 hrs before the appt. No orange drink.

Also does anyone know at what week we do the bum swab?

  25. Astro Bee

    pear / 1503 posts

@Delight: Again, good luck to you and your little girl. Please keep us updated, if you are able!

@Anonysquire: My doc didn't say anything about a glucose test at my appt last week. I was 22w then, and from what I read it's normally done between 24 and 28 weeks, which I assume she would have scheduled me for then and there if she thought I needed it. I do get the urine test done at every appt, and I always take a look when the technician hands it back to me to pass on to my doctor. It's always showed no sugar in my urine, which is a sign of GD. I'll ask about it at my next appt, though.

    What's a bum swab?!?

@anonysquire: my glucose test is January 2. I'll be 27 weeks. I already tested positive for group b strep earlier in my pregnancy through a urine sample, so I don't think I'll get the swab. From what I've read online it seems like something given later in the 3rd trimester.

  28. marionberry

    pomelo / 5041 posts

@anonysquire: I haven't heard from my provider when I will have my glucose screening but I am assuming it will be in the next one or two visits. The swab for group B strep is usually much later at my office. I would assume somewhere past 30 weeks.

  29. Astro Bee

    pear / 1503 posts

@Anonysquire: Ah! I recall my regular family doctor mentioning this a few months ago, but my prenatal doctor hasn't yet, so I assume that it's just done later here.

  30. loki

    pear / 1787 posts

@anonysquire: most of my friends seem to have gotten it in the few weeks leading up to their due date. not sure what the norm is but usually it's been like 2-3 weeks prior.

i have my GD test on Jan 3rd. i'll only be 26w3d but we leave for vacation on the 9th and my dr said i need to do it between 26 and 28 weeks. i'm SO nervous i'm gonna have gd but i guess there are worse things!

@delight: you're so amazing. i'm so happy you're feeling her move, that has to be a good sign best of luck with your appointments in the coming weeks

@Mrs. Sunshine: ya not much i can do. i'm just so nervous because i cannot see me being able to maintain the diet. i still have crazy food aversions, mostly to proteins so it'll be tough. but gotta do what i gotta do for this babe i suppose!

@delight: Continuing to send good thoughts your way. Hope you are able to get into the holiday spirit with DH and LO to help the time go by before Friday!

I have my GD test in 2 weeks, on Dec 23. My midwives do a 2 hour test for everyone instead of the one hour screening then 3 hour if you fail that. It's a fasting test so I can't eat or drink anything besides water before the test. They get us in early at 8:30. Do a blood draw, drink the drink (not horrible, just like flat soda), wait an hour and do another blood draw, then wait another hour and do the final blood draw.

It wasn't too bad last time. The most annoying part is sitting around the office for 2 hours. But they do a normal appointment during the waiting, so that's nice.

Didn't have it last time, so hoping it will all be good this time as well.

My GD test is January 6 when I'll be 27 weeks.

Currently I'm dealing with a pretty bad cold that suddenly got a lot worse yesterday. Boo. Anyone else feeling under the weather? Hoping that the Nor'easter they're calling for gives us a snow day or morning/afternoon. This teacher will definitely take advantage of that.

I need to schedule the GD test soon. I'll probably do it at about 28 weeks, so I can put it off for a while yet. I'm 23 weeks today.

Does anybody have experience with birth classes? We were selected for a free spot in a 12-week Bradley method class and attended our first one last week. I'm really curious to hear if anyone else has similar experiences and what they thought of it.

@marionberry: It was the doctor at the hospital that looks at the ultrasound results and comes to talk to patients afterwards. I think they are called perinatologists? Is that right? She forwarded the info on to my OB office so that the OB's are aware as well of the potential problem. I will schedule to go back early January to see if anything has changed.

@PawPrints: Last time, we took an all day class taught by one of the nurses at my midwife practice. It focused on the stages of labor and exercises to get you through labor. Then had a short section on newborn care and breastfeeding. I found the class to be really educational. Of course I ended up with a scheduled c-section so didn't get to use any of this new found knowledge, but am still glad we took the class! Even though DH likes to say the class was a waste of time, I know that he learned a lot in it also.

Had anatomy scan today -- still Team Green. I thought I saw a brief flash of unambiguously boy bits when baby flipped over (we intentionally turned away while the tech was measuring legs and pelvis), but, the tech referred to the baby as "she" a couple times, so, who knows!?

Baby looked fab. Tech couldn't tell us anything official, but, told us to expect results from the midwife in 3-5 days. I know they try to expedite the reporting to <48 hours if any problems are noted, so, 3-5 days is good news.

The only annoyance is all of my care providers insist on dating the pregnancy by my LMP even though I know that ovulation occurred on either 7/26 or 7/27 and I have short cycles. I've had three official ultrasounds now, all of which dated within 1 day of my ovulation dating, but 5-7 days ahead of where I should be by LMP. It is only a few days and not really a big deal, but, it really annoys me.

Hi all! Long time, no chat! Just got back from our babymoon last night and had a great time. We spent a long weekend in Florida and had amazing weather and lots of nice relaxation time, just the two of us - no work, school, home or any other distractions. Getting back to work and dealing with the cold weather was a shock today though!

@Mrs. Sunshine: @Loki: @Marionberry: @AstroBee: thanks so much for starting and sharing with the sex drive question - am so happy to know that I'm not alone here - we've been averaging once every 1-2 weeks, and I'm feeling badly, but am just not in the mood! And like a couple of you said, the apps all say that our sex drive should be in overdrive right now. So good to have this shared perspective/experience from others!

@delight: stay strong, mama! I think you're right, and that sweet little girl is a fighter! XOXO

@anonysquire: OMG, your question about the bum swab made me LOL!!!

Not sure when my GD test is - my 24 week appointment is next week, but they didn't give me any instructions about it - I may call and check so I know what to expect!

Little man is moving around a lot more, which I just love - he did well on his first flights and vacation this weekend! I've been able to see my stomach move quite a bit the past few days when he's really active, but DH has only still felt him move 1-2 times. Can't wait for more activity! I really can't believe next week is 24 weeks too - time sure is flying!

@lilyofthewest: congrats on a great AS today!

@PawPrints: We're planning to do a series of classes like @NeekieRose mentioned - a combination of birthing and relaxation techniques - we can either do 3-4 sessions across different evenings or one all-day class. Our hospital also has a breastfeeding basics class that I want to do, as well as more in-depth relaxation and breathing class that I'm going to try. Our doc told us to hold off until the seventh month to schedule. I'm really looking forward to all of them - especially to see a tour of the hospital and such!
