So my baby shower was today. It went well, I had fun. I'm left feeling...I don't know... a little sad I guess. A lot of people couldn't make it ( with legit reasons) and a lot of people just didn't come. Kind of makes you feel like shit you know? I'm completely grateful for everything we got and to the people who did come though. But also...we didn't get anything off our registry?! Lol like why did I even bother? And the strange part is there are 4 items that were "reserved" from the registry so that's weird. My work is throwing a shower on Monday and I wonder if my company bought the car seat but the other 3 items are a mystery. Anyway, I'm rambling I'm sorry. I need sleep lol hope you all are having a good weekend.

@JennyLayneAZ: I am sorry to hear it wasn't what you were hoping for. At our church shower, the only one we are having, only a few things were from the registry. I keep trekking myself I mostly registered for the completion discount, but it was a little sad feeling. Maybe people are sending you gifts?

  4. JennyLayneAZ

    nectarine / 2690 posts

@MaisyMay: I registered on baby list so as far as I know, there's no completion discount unfortunately. I mean I really do love everything we got, I do! But I'm a little sad we didn't get any swaddles (I can't wrap a burrito let alone a blanket around my baby lol) or sleep sacks. Or the bumbo. Lol oh well all good. I'm more bummed about the people who were no call/text, no show than anything.

@JennyLayneAZ: Sorry hon. I kind of felt the same way. I appreciated the items I got, but only a few friends who recently had babies purchased off of the registry. No one else did. And the only reason I registered at Walmart was because my Mom and MIL were insisting that I register at places that were convenient for people. No one even purchased off of that registry. That was just annoying. But whatever. I'm happy that we get the discount at Target and Amazon, and I'm taking advantage. I hope you get some more of your items at your work shower.

@JennyLayneAZ: I am so sorry you are disappointed. I totally understand. I know you care more about the people than the stuff, but maybe you could switch your registry over to Amazon of buybuybaby so you could at least get the completion discount for yourself?

@JennyLayneAZ: I hope your work shower surprises you in a good way! My coworkers blew me away with LO1. I don't know why I was surprised because they love to have a good party but after my shower with my friends outside work was a little disappointing maybe I appreciated the thought that went into the work one more.
I am helping host my friend's shower today who is due in early April and I bought her a gift not on the registry Her registry didn't have a lot of items. There were some blankets on there but nothing IMO good for swaddling so I bought her AA swaddling blankets. With LO1 I didn't register for them yet those were the best blankets for swaddling. If she doesn't like them I am including the gift receipt.

@JennyLayneAZ: I'm sorry you feel disappointed. I would too if I were you. I'm sure your work will treat you well! It can be so overwhelming with all the stuff that is needed. And yes sometimes people can be disappointing too!

I really hope that @banddmommy is doing well and that we knew how she was doing!

@avivoca:TY, sometimes I wish he could carry this baby and do everything just right. @Cherrybee: you two are too funny about the carbfest! At my doctor's visit last week one of the docs (five total) reviewed my birth preferences and vetoed Smart Water. Not quite the same as a Bear claw or guava cheese pastry, but man if I get a Charlie Horse during labor I'm going to blame her.

@bloved: where's your potential move? Do you know your potential new area well? I thought I could still fly until 36 weeks and was hoping for a weekend trip to see some areas people recommended in person, but that's out of the question. If all goes well with the high risk doctor next week I'll drive up with DH the following week and explore. It sucks to have use 4-5 days of PTO, but I really need to be able to be decisive about house options when the relo clock starts ticking.

@JennyLayneAZ: aww I'm sorry. I'm sure your friends & family that couldn't make it were just as bummed not to be there. I created a registry on babyli.st too and that's the one I give out to those that ask. About a month or two ago I created a Target and Amazon registry with as many items from my babyli.st registry to take advantage of the 15% completion discount at both places. You can use the Amazon discount up to 6 months after the EDD. Yesterday, I bought everything from the Target list and then reserved it on Babyli.st since I have some would-be gift givers out there. You can check the "Thank You" tab on Babyli.st to see who reserved the four items.

@Canoli: I'm feeling much better, TY. Looking at houses online is an all mind-consuming task so that helps alot.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Just remember that the nurses aren't in there the entire time, so if they don't see you drinking Smart Water, it didn't happen. These words are straight from my midwife's mouth.

    papaya / 10570 posts

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: What's smart water? And what's Charlie horse (sounds like a class A drug combo)?

  15. bloved

    persimmon / 1114 posts

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: why did they veto smart water? I drink at least one daily to try and minimize the Charlie horses!

Potential move is to Florida (from NJ) so don't know the area well at all, and quite far away. I was also hoping to be able to fly and scope it out (love my husband but cannot give him full house buying/location scouting authority) but doctor almost scoffed at me when I asked about it (seeing how it was directly after her warning me I might need to go out early on disability / risk for preterm labor). He's still waiting to hear about the job though so we are in a holding pattern for now anyway!

@Cherrybee: Smart Water is water with electrolytes added similar to all the good stuff in Gatorade. A Charlie Horse is a very painful leg cramp like a spasm that stays on 10 the entire time. Another doc from the practice recommended Smart Water to help with them and it really does help!

@bloved: @avivoca: on my birth preferences I state my doula and husband will ensure I get fluids since I am requesting intermittent monitoring and Hep lock. The doctor is concerned that if a C-Section is necessary anything I consume (cue the Smart Water convo) will come up as soon as they open me up. So, I asked about ice chips, which seems to be the thing hospitals are willing to give pregnant women and the doctor said chomping on ice chips during labor wouldn't create too many fluids. The weird thing is she has no problem with me not getting fluids through an IV just no consumption of fluids on my own. So, I guess dehydration is okay? Of course this all came up when we learned about the heart murmur, so DH was extra sensitive to the feedback she gave regarding our preferences.

@bloved: I live in Florida now. It's a big state, but if you're headed to South Florida or what we call the Treasure Coast I may be able to help you narrow down communities.

    papaya / 10570 posts

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Oh, the leg cramps! I'm really suffering with those myself! I've never heard them called that before. Its weird you're not allowed to drink - we can drink and eat whatever we like over here?? There's a write up about a study from 2009 on the NHS choices website that says its safe to eat during labour and poses no discernable risk if you have to go under general anaesthetic.

    persimmon / 1114 posts

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: thanks! It is on the "space coast" so I don't think that is close? We were told to look into the Melbourne / viera area.

That stinks about the no water. Maybe talking to a different doctor at the practice will have more leeway? I know I tend to ask my questions over and over to the different doctors until I get an answer I like better

  20. Mrs. Lemon-Lime

    wonderful pea / 17279 posts

@Cherrybee: yeah, I know. ACOG (OB/GYN authority) says women no longer need to be starved during L&D. Two of the other doctors that reviewed the plan didn't bring up any concerns over it at all.

@bloved: I covered the Space Coast about a decade ago, but don't know enough to be helpful. It is very pretty and seaside idyllic. As much as I liked having that level of interest and dialogue about the preferences I'm hoping that doctor is not on call when I deliver. Lol

Should I be worried? 31 weeks and 3 days and just this afternoon started feeling very uncomfortable. Lower back ache and pressure down low. I started getting Braxton Hicks while grocery shopping so drank a ton of water, I've since had to pee about every 15 min since and have had a lot of bladder pressure and pressure pretty low in the front.

Could it be the baby starting to drop? I've been on edge about these contractions here and there ever since I had them for hours at the hospital last week (fFN was negative and was told I was dehydrated). I'm a FTM and have no idea what is normal and what isn't!

  23. Mrs. Lemon-Lime

    wonderful pea / 17279 posts

@YogiRunner: I'm not sure if what you're feeling is the baby getting in position because mine has been in the correct position for what seems like forever. However, I began to feel uncomfortable at 31 weeks too. I regularly have Braxton Hicks, go to the bathroom all the time, and have a belly that feels very heavy. Hang in there & drink your water!

  24. JennyLayneAZ

    nectarine / 2690 posts

@YogiRunner: same as @Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I don't know if your baby dropped necessarily but every week I get more and more uncomfortable and have Braxton hicks daily

    Eta:edited for auto correct lol

  25. bloved

    persimmon / 1114 posts

@YogiRunner: same as the others with the uncomfortable. And I hear you on the increased need to pee. With my first I felt fine up until the end so this is very different for me to. I have to say, despite supposedly having contractions this week, I am still having a hard time identifying them. I have felt that tightness frequently sense but it seems so painless and barely noticeable I am not sure if it is really happening or if I am paranoid now and reading into everything!

I think if you are concerned though, always default to calling your doctor. I hate to do it, but really it is what they are there for. My sister (on her third pregnancy) called all the time. Usually she felt silly and was dismissed, but the last time it turned out she really did have a slow leak in her water and they wound up inducing her. So I guess you never know!

    clementine / 849 posts

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: @JennyLayneAZ: @bloved: thanks so much ladies. That does make me feel better that some of the discomfort is normal and inevitable. Just seems like it happened so quickly! I've also had what feel like period cramps which is adding to the paranoia. I'll see what happens today and if nothing changes I'll call my OB.

@bloved: I totally hear you on the paranoia. It sucks constantly wondering what's going on and if it's normal!

    Thanks again ladies.

I met with the high risk doctor and we didn't hear any skipped beats! Baby is measuring 5 lbs 7 oz. He advised from here on out to stay away from caffeine- no more chocolate anything including ice cream/ shakes. He also said induction is not necessary for a skipped heart beat, but if the heart showed signs of failure that would be a different story. I'm just so thankful everything is okay!

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Yea for good news! I am so happy you were able to see the doctor today! That is going to be the best tasting chocolate after LO arrives
I've been daydreaming about my first meal after LO arrives. I think it's going to be a turkey sandwich and lots of fresh fruit - my friend made a delicious fruit plate at the shower we hosted yesterday and now I am stuck on that.

@autumnleaves: omg I have been fantasizing about my first meal...I definitely want a sub...either Italian or turkey and provolone. I miss cold cuts! I also want soft serve and a Coke Zero. My husband has firm orders that the sub and soda should be brought to the hospital following birth!

36 weeks on Wednesday and starting my last week of work before leave. I have really mixed feelings about it. I really enjoy my job, but the 11 hours from leaving home to arriving back for a typical work day are getting to me.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: great news! What a relief. What was this doctors opinion on caffine?

  34. Mrs. Lemon-Lime

    wonderful pea / 17279 posts

@jh524: He was firm on caffeine- none whatsoever either in beverages or foods. I asked him about my herbal tea that's says it's caffeine-free, but he said to steer clear from that too. @bloved: @Cherrybee: thanks, it was a happy day!

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: What great news! Sorry about the no caffeine, chocolate, ice-cream, ect. That's a bummer, but at least your LO is alright.

@autumnleaves: I'm going to get my raw sushi order ready and have it in my hospital bag I think. And after that I'm going to get a turkey sub.

I'm continuing to work on flipping baby. I think s/he stayed put today instead of going all sideways, which is super uncomfortable right about now, but I'm still unsure if we are breech or in the right position. I just hope we can get in the right position, and stay there, by my appointment next week.

  38. auggiefrog

And right after I posted this I'm pretty sure baby went sideways. At least s/he still thinks s/he has room to move around and isn't stuck in the breech position.

Tonight I attended a BF class at my hospital. I didn't pick up a lot of information anything new since I learned a lot already by being on HB and my own research. The discussion around bottle feeding was interesting. The nurse said the first bottle nipples you should buy have a flat side and the correct way to insert it in the baby's mouth is pointing up. Although the nurse encouraged BF, she didn't bash FF and even said some women just have no desire to BF and that's perfectly ok.

Has anyone else attended a BF class? Any tidbits you learned?

  40. auggiefrog

    kiwi / 631 posts

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Your session sounded super informative. Ours mostly consisted of giving us the benefits of BF, making sure we latched correctly, and giving us some positions. But them the Power Point stopped working and I think my class got cut a little short. The biggest take-away I got from it was the importance of skin to skin right after birth, and the latch.
