@auggiefrog: same here on the latch!. the nurse really hit home on the latch from the standpoint of a good latch will make you BF longer because it will hurt less. I wish we sprnt more time on the positions because I couldn't tell too much difference between the cradle and cross-cradle.

This morning I shared with DH how he can be involved with breastfeeding like bringing me a freshly diapered baby and burping the baby. I thought it was nice how she included the partners. Of course mine had to hear it from me since he's in GA right now. Next I start the childbirth series.

I'm jonesing for a cup of joe! If I can just get through this day I go til the end.

36.4 weeks.. new symptoms. .. dizzy, nauseous, breathless. It kind of feels like my blood pressure is too low or too high. and it only happens when I'm sitting in my car or in my desk chair, so often! Dr. Appt tomorrow. Hoping he can tell me what it could be. I'm curious to see how far ahead I'm measuring at 32 I was measuring 35 and at 34 I was measuring 39. So I'm anticipating 41-42.. how far ahead is cause for concern??

@AMommyThang: oh that sounds pleasant! I hope everything is ok. I don't know how far ahead is cause for concern...has your doc said anything about induction due to size?

@JennyLayneAz...I am already scheduled for a repeat c-section at 39 weeks and at 34 weeks he was just like "oh man he's going to be a big baby, I'm guessing between 9-10 pounds but that's okay because your having a c-section."

And all I can think of is how am I going to be able to physically do anything carry that big of a baby? I have a 3 year old that I can't do anything with because I am in constant pain. Ugh I know the longer he stays in the better but I am just beyond done at this point.

@AMommyThang: I'm so sorry you're so uncomfortable. I wonder if baby is pressing on a blood vessel, making you feel dizzy?

I've had an interesting day. My Braxton hicks got really bad last night and I also had a sharp pain in the vagina every time. I was really worried about it this morning because my bump seemed so much smaller so I called the hospital and they had me come in. They put me on the monitor and baby looks fine. She has probably defended a bit but her head isn't engaged at all. The Braxton hicks didn't come when I was on the monitor because I was lying down (they happen whenever I stand up though) and I'm not dilated at all so they told me all is okay, I just need to stop overdoing it. They said the sharp vagina pain is probably due to ligaments relaxing and my pubic bones moving about with the pressure.

@AMommyThang: you're really having a rough go at it! How long are you sitting at a time? The high risk doctor I saw on Monday said to stretch my legs and walk every 45 minutes when we drive up to GA to prevent blood clots. Maybe getting the juices flowing for you will alleviate some discomfort.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime. . I work at a desk 7 hours a day, 5 days a week. That could be it but not sure why it would happen within minutes of driving down the road. Yesterday I had to pull over because I was certain that I was going to pass out.

    @AMommyThang: how scary!

We'll I finally did my hospital tour last night. I am really happy and quite impressed with my hospital. I felt like I was in a resort lol every birthing room has its own private bathroom with a shower and a jacuzzi tub. They have birthing balls and all that jazz if you go natural and they have their own dedicated anesthesiologists if you go the epi route! Overall I am very pleased.

I am going in to work late today, we are testing my temp. I really have no idea how she is going to do on her own. One day she does great, the next it's like starting over on day one with her. I am so stressed!! And we've already given parts of my job to other employees at work and reduced it down to one major task for her....I just don't understand what is going on!! How can you know what you're doing at one moment and have no clue the next?!

  9. Mrs. Lemon-Lime

    wonderful pea / 17279 posts

@JennyLayneAZ: short term memory lol! Your hospital sounds great. Will you stay in the birthing room your entire hospital stay?

My mom's boyfriend is a photographer and just offered to take complimentany maternity photos. He wants to expand his photog business into baby stuff and put our photos on his website. Of course DH asked if we would be compensated- half joking. The first chance we would be able to do it I'll be 37 weeks. I wish he mentioned this last time I saw him when I was 25 or 26 weeks. Now, I feel so blah that posing for pictures is the last thing I want to do.

There were a couple people that shared their maternity photos. Anyone else get them and not share?

    persimmon / 1114 posts

@JennyLayneAZ: oh that sounds so nice!

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I bet even if you don't feel like it now, you will appreciate having the pictures to look back on. I never did maternity pictures but this pregnancy I've really enjoyed looking back at my bump shots from my first.

Afm I had my dr appt today. Fluid was down to 21 (so high normal, but normal!) and no regular contractions (although some irregular ones). Dr still wants me to go every week, but only bc so close to weekly appts anyway. Even managed to wrangle another 4:15 appt so was feeling pretty good.

However, dr just called (7:30 at night) after reviewing my u/s and apparently the baby's heart is measuring large now. I find it hard to believe bc maternal fetal medicine did not say anything last week. However, now he wants me to go back there instead of the office which means more time off of work. So frustrated bc I feel like none of these are real issues and they are just being overly cautious (at least, I hope so) which is just costing me so much work time!!!

@AMommyThang: I'm sorry hon. Doesn't sound like an enjoyable time for you.

@Cherrybee: Sounds miserable. I've been having a lot of random pains as well. Walking around and getting up and down from the floor has been a nightmare!

@JennyLayneAZ: Sounds like an amazing hospital! All the rooms at mine are at least private and have a big walk-in shower. I would kill for a jacuzzi tub though! Sorry about your temp. I hope she figure thing out!

@bloved: Sorry hon. That is so annoying! But at least they are keeping an eye on everything incase of problems. I hope your job is understanding.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: We got our maternity session free too, or we owe my sister a few more meals I should say. I can't remember if I shared mine or not (I might have shared one or two on the bump thread), but if not I'll share some now. I had mine taken around 29 or 30 weeks. I hope your session goes well. They will be fun to have. A reminder of a special time.

I've been so tired the last few days. I get home from work and all I want to do is sleep. And in the morning I can barely get myself moving. I think baby is back in the heads down position, and has been all day (knock on wood).

@auggiefrog: @bloved: I'll probably go for it just to document the first house we brought our son home to. I have two weeks to order something nice to wear.

@auggiefrog: your pics are lovely- the snow made a magical backdrop

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Nope, after delivery I'll be moved to a recovery room (next floor up) which is pretty nice also. A bit smaller, but you still have your own bathroom w/ a shower, tv, microwave, refrigerator, etc.

    @bloved: @auggiefrog: thanks ladies

@auggiefrog: I love your pics! I was going to do maternity pics, but once I got bigger I just started feeling really unattractive lol so I nixed the idea. At least I have pics of my belly.

So, we decided not to have the temp come back. So, wish me luck next week ladies. Lets hope that it's "third times a charm" and not "three strikes and you're out" LOL I really didn't think it would be so difficult to find someone to do my job?! I think I need a raise! hahaha

Second time mommies, What are your plans for your lo's care while your having baby #2 ?

If you've already been through this, can you share what you did and what worked well or not so well.
I'm just starting to worry about lo's care while I'm in the hospital. He's such a mommys boy that I worry only daddy will be able to keep his schedule, etc. but I think I'll need daddy's help while I'm recovering. Not sure what to do. My parents can come "try to help" for the first 2 days but that doesn't resolve bedtime and overnight. And my Dh mother can come from California to help but I'm not sure when it would be best to utilize her help.... The day of the birth and that whole week or wait and have her come the following week

Any suggestions or ideas would be so helpful !

    wonderful pea / 17279 posts

@JennyLayneAZ: the recovery room sounds really nice too! A couple of days ago my mom and I got in a bit of a discussion about what kind of hospital experience basically if I was going to have a "birthing" room. was going to have vs her. My hospital has a "L&D" room and a recovery room. When she had my bro she stayed in a birthing room (labor, delivery, and recovery) all in one. I tried to tell her we were proyally talking about the same thing and it was just semantics. Her experience was different, but it's also sort of the same.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I have not had a maternity photo shoot - I'm trying to get a couple shots here and there just to be able to capture the pregnancy but nothing professional. At the shower I was at last weekend photos were taken and I hated most of the ones I was in - I look like such a whale.

@JennyLayneAZ: Good luck with the new temp next week! Hopefully the higher ups will see you most certainly deserve a raise - not everyone is so easily replaceable

@jh524: I am trying not to stress about this. DH's parents are driving over 12 hours to be here 2 days before the due date and they plan to stay for 2 weeks. I hope I do not go into labor before their arrival. If everything times right, DH will stay in the hospital with me overnight the first night (we'll see how long I am there). LO doesn't have mommy preference - he seems to be comfortable with either of us putting him to bed and I am hoping he is still comfortable with others putting him to bed but we'll see.
I have a friend who is on call if I do go into labor before. If this happens, DH will just be with me through the labor & delivery and then he'll stay at home with LO at night.

Does anyone have exciting plans for the weekend?
We are headed to the beach for one night - it's 2 hours away and I looking forward to a break from cleaning and cooking. Then when we get back we hope to transition LO1 into his big boy room Sunday night. Crossing fingers he handles the transition well. It's not really decorated yet - we ordered some Eric Carle items for the walls and plan to buy a magnetic train for decoration with his name on it.

@jh524: we are having my inlaws come and stay at our house with our son. Like you, I would love to have my husband home with him to keep his routine as normal as possible, but with a scheduled c-section, I think I definitely need his help at the hospital.

@autumnleaves: the beach sounds so nice! I am headed to Atlantic city with my two best friends For a spa day and am SO looking forward to it.

@jh524: My mom and stepdad are driving in for a week (they live 1300 miles away). Mom was here with LO1 when DH and I went to an out of town wedding a few months ago and it went awesome, so I'm really happy she can come again. My C-section is scheduled for a Friday at noon, so I'm somewhat hoping to be home by Sunday so DH can take over getting her to day care, etc. I'm sure my mom will want to keep her home longer, but when her routine is disrupted (even if she's having fun), it tends to cause crazy threenagerness.

Can i just whine for a minute? Lol Is anyone elses swelling at the point of ridiculous or is it just me? By Thursday my feet are horrendous! Come Monday they are back to manageable but still swollen, but the cycle starts over. And the swelling in my wrists/hands is so bad my thumbs pop out of socket and my fingertips are numb. I wear my wedding band on my pinky now. That's bad!!

  23. bloved

    persimmon / 1114 posts

@JennyLayneAZ: omg yes!! My feet are ridiculous. I was so happy the swelling had disappeared until yesterday, but today my feet are so painful and barely fitting in the shoes I am wearing! I cannot wait to get home and try to test them (please toddler want to just relax and watch tv).

  24. JennyLayneAZ

    nectarine / 2690 posts

@bloved: I hope your toddler is in a relaxed mood! I tried an Epsom salt bath last week and it helped a little, but the bath tub is kinda scary to get in and out of right now lol and it hurt my back and tail bone to sit in it.

Eta: a picture because you guys understand!!

Just had an nst, little man did not want to cooperate so an appt that could be only 20 mins took a full hour. Now I am back to work, making for such a long day. Tomorrow is it though, then leave.

Toddler girl has not been sleeping well and it is taking a serious toll on me right now.

We ate driving down to the IL's tomorrow after work and pay of me would rather just go home, but we haven't been to see then in a while. All I want is a night of sleep where I don't deal with a toddler, or wake up hurting.

@JennyLayneAZ: swelling here is fairly minimal most days but still uncomfortable at night. I hate how it looks and feels when I finally get home and take my socks off.

@jh524: I'm so worried about this! Our neighbors whose son is in the same daycare as LO will take her if I go overnight/end of the day but I have no idea how LO will do at their house. My mom is 3 hour drive away and will head into town ASAP and I know she can handle her at least.

@JennyLayneAZ: @Canoli: thanks ladies. I wound up calling (I figured at this point better safe than sorry). Doctor just told me to take it easy. Thankfully that was my only spotting so i guess just a fluke. I will mention it again at my regular doctor appt this week again just in case they want to do a cervix check bc I know they've been concerned about preterm labor. But hopefully he will be staying put for a few more weeks!

@JennyLayneAZ: Urg. My feet are swollen all the time! I've had to buy new, bigger shoes so I don't have to wear slippers to work. I gave up wearing my rings over a month ago. I actually had to get them cleaned last night to stay in warrantee and the lady that cleaned and checked my rings said she's had to deal with too many expectant mothers leaving their rings on too long, and then needing to get them cut off. I can't imagine wearing them to the point were they are stuck on!

@autumnleaves: Your plans sound amazing! I hope you are having a great time!

I packed most of our hospital bag/ bags last night. It feels good to have that done and mostly ready. I'm working on putting the stuff together for my last lesson plan before maternity leave today. And hopefully I will get some cleaning done too.

This silly, stubborn child was in place most of yesterday, and then last night we decided to flip around again. I got the referral for another doctor to try and get my baby in position on Friday, but by the time I received the message it was to late to call, so I'll have to take care of that on Monday.

  32. MaisyMay

    GOLD / cantaloupe / 6703 posts

Officially on maternity leave! but still doing a few small projects from home before the little guy arrives.

In terms of yesterday's check up, the dr is guessing that he's around 8 pounds right now, and I'm not dilated yet, but my cervix is soft and shifted forward, so the next step is dilation and effacement.

I hurt so much some times, and my doctor is saying it's just common pregnancy pain. We have the next growth ultrasound on Wednesday next week, and I'll follow up with the doctor the next day to schedule the induction. While baking time is important, I would be okay with next Friday being the big day.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I hope the house hunting well and that the road trip wasn't too bad. I love looking at houses but I can't imagine needing to do it now.
@bloved: I hope you were able to enjoy the spa day this weekend. I had a little bleeding around this time point with my first pregnancy but I also had contractions - everything was fine but I was put on bedrest for a week.
@MaisyMay: woohoo for maternity leave! Your little boy is going to be here before you know it!

My next doctor appointment is Thursday (34 weeks, 6 days). I think cervix checks start in 2 weeks for me but I am going to ask the doctor if she really thinks I can make it to 40 weeks - I've had too many comments lately from people who think I'm not going to make it. I've been measuring on track but am wondering if I'll be measuring big this week.

  35. auggiefrog

@MaisyMay: Hooray for maternity leave! Enjoy a little time off before your LO arrives!

I had a consult today with an OB who could 'turn' my baby. But the babies head was down! I'll be 36 weeks tomorrow, so lets hope that the baby stays that way. At my prenatal appointment, I had my Strep B test and first cervix check. I still haven't dilated. Hopefully I'll make some progress before next week.

  36. MaisyMay

    GOLD / cantaloupe / 6703 posts

@autumnleaves: we did a cervix check yesterday, pretty uncomfortable.

@auggiefrog: did the step b yesterday too. Dr said it may be a little unpleasant and laughed when I pretty much replied along the lines of "what else is new" since everything about this pregnancy has felt uncomfortable.

I am really leaning on the idea that I may have my son in our arms next week. That is how I an pushing myself to get through this week. As of tomorrow I am 37 weeks, so next week wouldn't be crazy early.

@autumnleaves: house hunting went well. My feet learned a whole new level of swollen , but worth it to see the different areas in person. Our realtor did a pretty good job of selecting homes for us to look at it and while we have a strong contender for a new build ready when we need it I asked her to keep looking. I'd love to get the unicorn home- convenient location + established neighborhood + updated home + well within budget. It's going to be hard here on out house hunting since DH is committed to coming home each weekend and can't stay in GA to view the houses she sends over in person. DH was a trooper he drove the entire 9 hours both ways in part, I'm sure, it was to control the radio!

We have decided to skip the maternity session. My mom is dissappointed more than anything. One of her friend's son's has a baby due on the same date and the mom has been sending over cute pics of the shower and their maternity photos. I'm sure my mom wished she could do the same- share photos.

Where is everyone with basic preparation for baby?

    Car seat installed
    Hospital bag packed
    Layette washed
    Sleeping place set up
    ???

We are so far behind on all fronts. If nesting is a sign of baby coming I'm in this for the long haul!

    papaya / 10570 posts

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I'm so behind now!! I was way out ahead of you all a few months back but our kitchen reno happened and its still not completely finished!

    I've done:

    - nursery set up (but needs a good clean, following building works)
    - Moses basket ready
    - E's old clothes washed, ironed, put away
    - Nursing paraphernalia and tops/bras bought

    To do:
    - Finish packing hospital bag (half packed)
    - Wash and install car seat (currently in garage)
    - Set up change stations upstairs and downstairs
    - Finish writing birth plan
    - Dig out & clean pushchair
    - Dig out and sort/clean feeding paraphernalia including steriliser

I think that's it actually. That's not too bad. Its just all the other jobs I want to get done as well, like organising old photos and decluttering drawers, and gardening...... I'm in a perpetual state of nesting, I think, and pregnancy makes me crazy!

  40. bloved

    persimmon / 1114 posts

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: those are 4 more things then I've done! I seriously need to get into nesting mode. I have spring break next week so hopefully that will encourage me.

I think the only sign of my nesting is some shopping. I bought the Solly wrap during their sale the other day and yesterday I bought some matching outfits for my ds and the new baby (my husband is mortified but I could not resist). I feel like we are partially in limbo since we are not sure we if we are relocating, but that's not really a good excuse since I am in NJ regardless until the school year is over!
