April 2016 moms!

I can't believe we are this close either. Months ago I was excited that the baby was the size of a lemon, or some other fruit, and now I'm starting to try and get things moving along. In a month many of us will be moms, or moms again!

Hi Ladies! It's been a while since I posted. I've been lurking, but life's been crazy busy. I started my maternity leave mid-day yesterday. I'm so happy not to be working and I'm ready to spend some time concentrating on really getting ready for baby. I found out yesterday that I'm GBS positive. Anyone else? I'm pretty bummed about it. My dr. wants me to do a round of antibiotics now, but from what I've read, that's useless - all that really matters is the antibiotics during labor. So, I don't know what I'll do. I'll talk to him on Monday during my appt. I get my last U/S and I'm anxious to see if the baby is anterior or posterior. I guess my last update is that I think we finally picked a name for the baby (not a moment too soon!) - he'll be Cy Julian. Can't believe some of you are already counting down to your induction/c-section dates. That's so crazy exciting!

@poppygirl15: sorry you're GBS +! I was tested on Thursday so I'm sure I'll find out on Tuesday whether I am or not. Super cute name!!

@auggiefrog: definitely had a massage yesterday and she focused in certain pressure points. Tempted to try a few other natural remedies myself at this point.

So, I am sick, sore throat, exhausted, little voice. This makes my last fully planable weekend a little less exciting, but LO1 did have fun at an egg hunt today.

So, LO1 is 3y3m and when we hit 37 weeks with her, it was considered full term. When did that change? Now I am seeing 37-39 as pre-term and 39 as full term?

@MaisyMay: sorry to hear you are sick! I caught some sort of stomach bug this weekend and have been miserable. It seems unfair to be sick on top of being pregnant!

And my son is nearly 3, and it was 37 weeks then too. However my friend had her baby last June and I know by at least then it was moved up to 39 weeks.

@MaisyMay: @bloved: That 39 week full term thing freaks me out a bit. I have to deliver by my due date or be induced, and I would much rather go into labor by myself. So that means I have a week or so try and have this baby myself? No thank you! Too stressful! I've been starting RRL tea and EPO now in hopes that it will help me get my body ready to give birth by itself rather than needing meds.

@poppygirl15: Sorry about the GBS. That's a bummer. I was only told by my doctor that if I tested positive they would give me antibiotics at birth, so I would definitely question why your doctor thinks it's a good idea to start them now.

Just used my Amazon completion discount to make the big purchases for the baby (we splurged on the halo bassinet). Also, my registry said only 29 days until baby arrival. Eep! It all makes it seem so close and real!!

Carpal tunnel is no joke. I started wearing a wrist brace to help with the pain.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I woke this morning with a very swollen hand and wrist and it's so painful!!! Is that carpal tunnel??!! My fingers look like sausages

    wonderful pea / 17279 posts

@jh524: swollen hands are definitely one of my symptoms along with numbness. When they swell I have a hard time closing them and making a fist. What sent me to Walgreens for the wrist brace was the painful tingly sensation in my fingers.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: it hurts so bad! I've been waking up with them numb but it usually goes away and I've never had swelling . What causes it? My right hand is still so swollen. I was hoping it would go away this morning

  13. Mrs. Lemon-Lime

    wonderful pea / 17279 posts

@jh524: Dr. Google says it's the excess water retention restricting blood flow and only about 3% of pregnant women get it. My doctor said it will go away about 3 months after baby is born. Mine comes and goes too, but yeah it totally sucks!

@jh524: @Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Me too. The carpal tunnel started in January, but now its in both hands/wrists and my hands go numb often, with my finger tips numb all the time.

Oh.my.god. I had my 35 week scan and consultant appointment today and she said that she is going to do a membrane sweep at 37 weeks. Agh, that's only 2 weeks away.

Baby's growth may have slowed down which, as E was IUG, they're quite concerned about. Of course, it could just be the inaccuracy of measurements (3 weeks ago, they were concerned that baby was too big!).

I wonder if it will set labour off so early??

  16. MaisyMay

    GOLD / cantaloupe / 6703 posts

@Cherrybee: wow. Talk about topsy turvy about your LO.

We started doing a little acupressure last night, nothing too intense, and I got a few contractions today. I am not trying to fully start anything yet, just help things get ready so that at Thursday's appt, we can schedule the induction for sooner rather than later. I am mostly resigned to it being next week, but part off me is still holding out for this week/weekend.

@Cherrybee: I just looked up membrane sweep. Is that something you want to do? Any alternatives?

  18. MaisyMay

    GOLD / cantaloupe / 6703 posts

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Did you do a membrane sweep with your prior pregnancy? If so, how uncomfortable was it? My doctor did a cervical check last time, no speculum, and it got a little intense. I am wondering if thi is something she would offer at my appointment this week, 38w1 when we meet on Thursday.

@auggiefrog: @jennylayneaz: Thanks! My Dr. says that taking the antibiotics now would be beneficial because maybe we could knock them out, but even the CDC says it's pointless because GBS can come back so quickly. So, I don't know if I'll fill the proscription or not.

At the U/S today, baby is measuring right on schedule and is set to be about 8 lbs, which makes sense because my daughter was 7 lbs 15 oz.

@Maisymay: For what it's worth, I did two membrane sweeps with my last pregnancy (I went 9 days past due, so I think I had it done at 40 weeks and then at 41 - they finally "induced" labor by breaking my water). It hurt, caused a lot of bleeding (although, my dr. commented I bled more than people usually do), and did not start labor. So, I'm not going to be getting it done this time. But, that's just my experience.

@MaisyMay: I know! Baby was following the curve just below the 50th centile then, at my 32 week growth scan, she had shot up to the 100th centile. They were worried because of the GD etc. But at my 35 week growth scan, she was back down under the 50th. It could mean one of two things - the last lot of measurements were off, or baby's growth has slowed...... Given that my placenta started deteriorating in my last pregnancy and E stopped growing (another GD risk, as you know), they're worried for a different reason. There's probably nothing to worry about at all - its a classic case of intervention leading to more intervention - but I'm happy to err on the side of caution for ny baby's wellbeing.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Well its not something I'm looking forward to but the alternative is waiting until my induction a week or so later and having another horrific, chemical induced labour. This *could* start off labour for me (an actual, real, natural labour), or it could ripen the cervix and thus make my induction easier (less interventions, yay) or it could do nothing (in which case we've lost nothing). It makes sense.

I'm freaking out because it means I might go into labour naturally. Last time, I was induced in hospital, I didn't go through early labour at all (my body wouldn't do it), my water was broken by a midwife (all over their bed, not mine) and the first contraction I felt was an excruciating pitocin contraction. It was awful.... but its all I know! If I go into labour naturally, how will I know? When do I go to hospital? What if it progresses too fast (my last was precipitous once it started) and i have the baby in the car! What if my water breaks somewhere random??! And when will it happen? All this time, I've focused on having an induction date..... and now I feel all unprepared for what might happen!

  21. Cherrybee

    papaya / 10570 posts

@MaisyMay: I had one last time during my induction, when they inserted my second pessary. I was 0.5cm dilated after 36 hours with the first pessary in..... It hurt like hell and I bled afterwards. Within a couple of hours, period type cramps had started (but remember, I also had a propess pessary in) and then I had a show. I was 2cm after 12 hours. I think it was the sweep that caused the movement and, if my body was at all ready to go into labour, it would have done. Even breaking my water at 2cm didn't send me into labour last time!! I think, if they offer it, its worth trying.

@Cherrybee: similar boat kinda. I was hospital induced at 39w for LO1 due to being type 2 diabetic. This pregnancy has been harder and the doctor has said labor may happen on its own before 39w. Part of me worries over the possible spontaneousness of the whole thing, plus, I am just plain done with being pregnant. LO1 was a 38 hour induction resulting in a vag birth. Repeating that but shorter would be okay with me.

    persimmon / 1114 posts

@Cherrybee: @MaisyMay: I am in the same boat as both of you. Last pregnancy was a scheduled c-section because of baby's size. I never felt one contraction (in fact, one of my big regrets of the previous pregnancy). This pregnancy has been harder and I am contracting pretty regularly (every 2 minutes yesterday. They were intense but not painful). Anyway, I always thought I wanted to go into labor on my
Own, but I am finding it confusing and am unsure when/if to consider something "real"!

@MaisyMay: I am so so done being pregnant too.

  24. Mrs. Lemon-Lime

    wonderful pea / 17279 posts

@MaisyMay: no, I've never had the membrane sweep- this is my first pregnancy to get to baby delivery stage. During my last appointment I was tested for GBS using a speculum and it was so uncomfortable.

@Cherrybee: as unpleasant as a membrane sweep sounds it does seem like the best option for you. If only these babies would cooperate with their mamas.

Today's plan: walk with a friend for a few hours and do a little home acupressure. Tomorrow is our 38w growth scan and the day after is when we meet with the doctor. My hope and prayer is that we set the induction at Thursday's appointment even if it isn't until Monday or Tuesday. LO2 has been guessed between 7 1/2-8 pounds already, so I would prefer sooner to later.

@bloved: We did our completion discount not too long ago too, and boy does the stuff just add up! We spent almost $1000!!! Ended up returning some of the stuff with buyers remorse because I hate spending so much money. It didn't help that we got mostly clothes for our shower and not registry items because people love buying little girl stuff so much!

@MaisyMay: Hope it helps! I'll be trying to get this little one out a little harder starting next week too.

I was checking the time of my appointment this morning and I noticed that my induction has been scheduled. If I don't go into labor by April 13th, I'll be admitted with my induction happening the next morning. S***'s getting real!

@rockinghorse: same thing happened at my shower. I have SO MANY 0-3 month clothes it's ridiculous!! And I got no swaddles, so I have to buy them myself lol then we got some repeats of things that we already had....So those will go to my parents house for when they're babysitting for us.

So, I had my Dr appointment today. Blood pressure is down a little bit and my weight is down 2 lbs, so he was happy with that. They couldn't find the results from the GBS swab so they had to retake that. Lovely lol back in a week for another check up. Oh and he told me whenever I am ready to stop working to let him know and he'll write me a note lol

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I know lol I am ready to be done at work but I need more time with my temp, so I will keep going for at least the next two weeks. We'll see after that though! And yes it sucked having to retake the test but oh well.

We're all getting so close! Eeek.

So, we had our 38 week ultrasound today, but won't get any info until tomorrow's doctor appointment. The one thing that I was able to see was the cranial circumference, and when I checked it to the WHO's chart, his head is already measuring at 50th percentile for newborns. I am really curious to see what tomorrow's appointment brings (hopefully a date!).

@JennyLayneAZ: Yea for a lower BP! How did you lose 2 pounds? My doctor appointment is tomorrow and they only wanted me to gain 1 pound but I have a feeling I gained more.
@MaisyMay: Hoping you get to schedule your induction tomorrow!

Our refrigerator appears to be dying We noticed both the freezer and fridge not cooling like usual and the water won't dispense from it. We think it's less than 5 years old so more likely a repair is needed vs a new fridge. I hate it when things like this happen though. At least most of the items in the freezer could be moved to the chest freezer we bought earlier this year. And thank goodness we do not need to worry about breastmilk spoiling now - that was always a concern for me with LO1 when power would go out.

@AMommyThang: looks like you'll kick off the labor & delivery thread!

I had my 36 week appointment with the midwife. She by far was the most encouraging when it came to my birth preferences. I hope she's the one that's on call when I go into L&D. She told me to ignore the doctor that brought up induction because looking at my chart (my progress & baby's) there's no need at this point. She clarified they try not to let people go pass 41 weeks.

My swollen feet were major cause of concern and the nurse took my blood pressure twice on two different apparatuses. BP is normal. I have been ordered to stop all Smart Water intake as the electrolytes are likely the cause of the swelling in my feet and hands. For the Charley Horses I just have to get calcium tablets.

I thought I was going to have a cervical check, but she said it's too early and at 38 weeks it will make more sense. GBS test results all came back negative.

    @JennyLayneAZ: @AMommyThang:

Update: he is big, big enough to worry about shoulders getting stuck if we wait very long. The hospital doesn't have an available induction date until after 4/2 but my dr made some calls and was able to force me into the schedule for 3/30, but she doesn't think I will last that long. I am already 2cm dilated and while I will have 1-2 more nonstress tests, no more dr appts. Also, she stepped my membranes and it didn't hurt, am getting a little bloody discharge from that.
