So, is it weird that I have no interest in telling people about my pregnancy? Everyone I'm close to knows pretty much (best friends, close family, boss, etc.) but I have a few people to tell at work, my FIL who I'm not super friendly with, and a few friends who I am nervous about their reactions (infertility struggles, miscarriages, etc.). I guess I just don't really enjoy being the center of attention and I know it will be hard for a few of my friends...I kind of just want to keep it to myself for a while longer. This is probably just hormonal and I'm exhausted from some tough toddler parenting!

@psw27: I feel similarly. I was so excited about finally being able to share after a good appt this week - but I still haven't! And I realized what I was excited about is not having to lie. Like if someone asked me, I'd feel comfortable saying "yep, I'm pregnant" but I don't really want to bring it up. I think its because last time once I was out that was all anyone talked to me about. Suddenly growing and preparing for a baby was the only thing about me anyone cared about. At least among friends it hasn't been so bad this time around. I guess people are less curious about 2nd+ babies. But still, its nice to be just me for a while longer

@JennyPenny: The second pregnancy definitely got less attention than the first....I think the most attention was people talking about the gender, which is why we have kept the gender to ourselves this time (so far anyway)!

@abbydabbydoodlebug: Oh good, you can keep me company until late November as we wait, and wait and wait!
@JennyPenny: you totally get me! Although it is my 2nd so you're right, there will be far less interest. I swear even my parents hardly remember! They ask about the baby and they mean my LO! If people asked, I would tell them for sure now, but no one is asking! Maybe once I'm bigger and it is obvious haha....

@abbydabbydoodlebug: There's so much cushioning in there right now, baby won't even know!
@littleblessings: I'm so sorry to hear that. Sending prayers for your MIL.
@psw27: Don't feel left out! I'm waiting until the anatomy scan in mid-November.

I won't know sex till the anatomy scan either, but for some reason I've been assuming it wouldn't be until December. All you ladies mentioning mid-nov made me wanna go check. My dr does it between 18 and 20 weeks. I'll be 19 weeks on Thanksgiving day. What do you think the chances are that I have fun news to share with the family then!?!

@JennyPenny: I don't see why they couldn't schedule you the week of Thanksgiving. With my first pregnancy I was allowed to schedule at I believe 20 weeks and it just so happened to be the week of Christmas and they got me right in! That would be such a cute announcement at dinner!
grapefruit / 4213 posts
@JennyPenny: That's my plan, too. I have the anatomy scan scheduled for the week before Thanksgiving. I hope baby cooperates during the ultrasound so we can know for sure and do a fun reveal during Thanksgiving dinner. With LO1 we couldn't get a clear view during the anatomy scan, she kept flipping around and doing somersaults

I don't even have the anatomy scan scheduled yet. My next appointment is Nov 2nd and we will schedule it then.
nectarine / 2460 posts
@littleblessings: Nope, nothing specifically for this one yet. We might need some different season/gender clothes and I know we need to replace bottle nipples and stuff like that. The only big purchase I have in mind is maybe a double stroller but there are way.too.many choices on that it just leaves me feeling overwhelmed.

@JennyPenny: I purchased some newborn cloth diapers that are out for delivery according to USPS tracking!
pomelo / 5220 posts
@JennyPenny: aw that would be so cute! I hope they can schedule you! I was hoping they could move me up so I could announce at Thanksgiving but I don't want to be a pain in the butt and ask!
@littleblessings: nope! If it ends up being a girl I might start shopping a little, but otherwise I guess my only worries are where is the baby going to sleep once he/she is out of the bassinet. We haven't decided if we are going to bunk "the kids" up or do separate rooms.
grapefruit / 4213 posts
@littleblessings: Haven't made any purchases yet. If it's another girl then we don't need anything aside from diapers and wipes. If it's a boy then we need everything.
pear / 1739 posts
@psw27: @MapleMoose: everything SO and I have picked out is neutral I only got the diapers because they were less than 3 dollars per diaper. Can't beat that when it comes to cloth!

We have our anatomy scan scheduled for Thanksgiving week, kind of a fun time, it's when I'll be 20 weeks exactly. But we aren't finding out the gender so no big announcement! Our son's birthday party is that Saturday so if we change our minds that would be a fun time to announce too.
I haven't bought anything for the baby! I do need a few big items so I should look for sales. I think I'll need a lot of baby clothes either way because the kids are such different seasons! My LO was in 12 months by his first summer and this baby obviously won't be quite that big!!
pomelo / 5220 posts
@MapleMoose: we should all trade if we end up with opposite genders! I'm pretty sure we are done after this baby so I will be looking to unload baby boy clothes by the boxful!
pomelo / 5220 posts
@MOMTOLITTLEB: that's true actually - my son was born (as a preemie) in August so it was very hot for those first weeks.. April in Boston is not hot! But this baby could be bigger so we could be complete opposites!
persimmon / 1188 posts
@psw27: My good friend has twin girls who were born the same week as my son and she is pregnant again and due a couple weeks after me- our due dates are actually even closer this time! We have definitely talked about trading clothes if we have opposites again!
pomelo / 5220 posts
@MOMTOLITTLEB: that's so fun! I have one friend due in March but she's having her second boy! Our boys have almost the same birthdays but one year apart. So nice to have a friend going through it at the same time!

@psw27: I know, right?! I have zero boy clothes, aside from a single gender neutral fleece onesie that I bought in case LO2 turned out to be a boy. We were team green so we never found out the gender until delivery.
pomelo / 5791 posts
@littleblessings: I did! I bought an outfit to announce the gender to dh.

Well I'm on restrictions. Last ultrasound I was given a precautionary paper stating restrictions just in case since I have the subchorionic bleed and placenta previa. Spotted a bit this morning like they said I probably would.
pomelo / 5791 posts
@littleblessings: oh no, what kind of restrictions?? I had a SCH with ds2, and they told me restrictions wouldn't help it, but then I joined a fb group, and others said they were put on restrictions and it helped. Hopefully it clears up soon!
pear / 1739 posts
@ValentineMommy: just weight restrictions, no DTD, no heavy working. It's because of the placenta previa. I've had it with my other two successful pregnancies
pomelo / 5791 posts
@littleblessings: Gotcha. Do you stay on the restrictions the entire pregnancy?
nectarine / 2460 posts
@littleblessings: Oh no! I'm sorry to hear about your restrictions, but it sounds like you've had experience with this before and everything turned out okay. So that's good at least.
pear / 1739 posts
@ValentineMommy: until the dr gives me the okay to stop them. Most likely until the anatomy scan.
@JennyPenny: yeah. It's just annoying. I'm one of those go-getters that wait around for no one so I'm used to doing things on my own. Not used to needing help.
pomelo / 5791 posts
@littleblessings: At least it's potentially not the whole time! I went on modified bedrest with both my boys, so I totally hear you. It's hard leaving things up to everyone else.
pear / 1739 posts
@ValentineMommy: by the end of my other two pregnancies I was put on modified bed rest also. They wanted to come early. I'm just not ready for that part yet!
pomelo / 5220 posts
@littleblessings: Sorry to hear about your restrictions! I like to be independent too, so that would be hard. Are you not allowed to lift your LOs? My toddler would not take that news very well...
@ValentineMommy: I'm nervous about bed rest! My doctor already mentioned that because my LO came at 34w last time. What does that entail? No work obviously?
pomelo / 5791 posts
@psw27: I pretty much stayed in bed, and only got up for meals and showers and stuff. I had wildly fluctuating heart rate, so they just wanted me to take it easy. I worked from home the entire time.
pomelo / 5220 posts
@ValentineMommy: oh gosh. Was that your most recent baby or your first? My boss is not WFH friendly so I guess I would end up on unpaid leave. Ugh!
nectarine / 2460 posts
@psw27: Ugh! Not that it's happened yet (or going to happen) but that makes me so mad for you and mad about this country. How on earth is it fair for someone to have to take unpaid leave because of medical complications from pregnancy. sigh /rant
pomelo / 5220 posts
@JennyPenny: Trust me.... the rage is real on my part. I have legitimately the perfect job to work at home. I literally write for a living, just need a laptop. I work for my state government too. If the state wants private corporations to give better leave, they should probably look within and start offering it themselves! They would generously offer to let me drain my sick and vacation leave balances to pay part of my leave but I don't have a lot in the bank since I have a child already and he gets sick on the regular, as all kids do! Sigh... thankfully my husband has a really good job so while we would be broke, it would not be financially devastating like it would be to so many others! I could go on and on about this....
pomelo / 5791 posts
@psw27: Both! I had the same issue both times. I WAH 50% of the time anyway, so it's not a huge deal for me. I just got a doctors note and work was fine with it, luckily for me. I didn't realize you work for state gov (I work for fed gov)! Can you look into short term disability, should it happen to you? For whatever reason, around here our state gov people can get it, but fed can't.
pomelo / 5220 posts
@ValentineMommy: that's so awesome your work was flexible! Maybe my boss would work with me if it ends up happening? Who knows. Our state doesn't offer short term disability as a benefit, sadly. I looked into buying it privately but I had to do it prior to getting pregnant - which I didn't think of, of course!

@psw27: man, I am so grateful to work at a company that actually had family-friendly policies. Sadly, too much of a rarity.
I'm leaving for a work trip today and it was awful trying to find nice looking clothes that still fit. I feel like I'm not big enough for my maternity clothes and my regular clothes look like I've gotten fat and am in denial. My company is pretty casual usually so this is the first time I've had to "dress up" this pregnancy.
persimmon / 1188 posts
@JennyPenny: I had to dress up about a month ago and my dressy clothes already looked terrible! I actually interviewed for my current job when my son was 3 months old so I had a suit I bought then that fit pretty well for early pregnancy too. I wore that and the dress I wore to his Baptism. Glad I hadn't gotten anything taken in!
