@Grace: Yes, but they haven't been lasting ALL day, thankfully. I get a good 2-6 hours of them usually in the morning or evening/bedtime. I'm kind of getting use to them, I'm just really worried I won't know when it's go time.

@Mrs D: Oh, yeah, if they're that irregular I wouldn't be concerned. The stuff I am feeling is totally random, too.
@Mrs Hedgehog: I love your nursery!! I don't think it's too pink at all! I was imagining pink walls, pink curtains, pink rug, etc. I think the grey balances it out nicely!
@JessKas: Love your nursery, too! I adore that rocker so, so much!
@redsmarties: Sorry to hear about the low iron...but that means you can eat a lot of hamburgers, right?!
@StrawberryBee: I think it's a doctor-specific thing. The nurse that did mine at the hospital said she was going to be super gentle since I had never had one and because contractions were registering on the monitor and she didn't want to "stir things up." So I think that's why it was pretty painless.
@Sapphiresun: Woo-hoo for maternity leave!!
@Grace: Glad y'all have agreed on a name! And I love Zachary!!
@Alivoo01: LOVE that pic...he looks so sweet! What a special moment
@FutureMrsMcK: Thank you!! You're so sweet to check in on us
I had my 37w appointment this morning. The swelling in my feet/legs is out of control and my OB's face was priceless when she saw it. I wasn't supposed to start maternity leave for 2 more weeks, but she wrote me a note and told me to start today. She said I need to stay off my feet/elevate as much as possible to avoid blood pressure issues. My blood pressure is currently still in the normal range, but she thinks it's only a matter of time before it starts creeping up. So I went into work, talked to HR, tied up some loose ends, and now I am back at home--totally was not expecting that! Luckily my employer is amazing and everyone is really understanding. It'll be nice to relax with my feet up instead of going to work...hopefully I won't get too bored!
She didn't do a cervical check, but said she is going to do one at my 38w appt next Friday. I also tested negative for group b strep, which is good. I have to go back Monday to have my blood pressure checked--she's being overly-cautious about checking it because of how bad the swelling is. I considered posting a pic of the swelling on here (I seriously look like a 300lb woman from the knees down), but I don't want anyone to lose their lunch!

@StbHisMrs: Geez, that's crazy!
@lawbee11: Yikers! I'm glad you got to leave work early. Does that cut into your mat leave time? Take it easy!

@Mrs D: Thanks! I'd love to check out the links they recommended at your class.
@Grace: Yes, I'm not sure if I'm going to be surprised by how big or how small the baby is once he or she is finally out! I think we just settled on names today too, though DH is still waffling a little on a girl's middle name. Zachary and Matthew sound great together as a first/middle name combo.
It turns out there are no more breastfeeding classes in my area before my due date--my clinic stopped offering them and the other hospital in town just had theirs last night also. That hospital does hold them more often but their next one is full. They took my address and said they'd send me some information though. At least I'm familiar with kellymom, have watched some videos, and have a breastfeeding book waiting for me to pick up at the library.
@Alivoo01: That picture makes me want to pick him up and snuggle him! What a sweet little guy.
@Modern Daisy: I'm not even planning to move my clothes out of our nursery closet! Baby and I will have to share for now.

@lawbee11: Yay for maternity leave! Boo for the swelling though… I also tested negative for strep b and I found out that they will start doing cervical checks next week for me as well, but I can decline if I want to. They don't care so much until I'm actually at 40 weeks and then they'll get more insistent about wanting to know what's going on up there.

@lawbee11: Oh my goodness, you poor thing! I hope your swelling gets better now that you have Dr.'s orders to stay home and stay off your feet. Enjoy this downtime all you can and keep us updated!
@chanzi: It's tough for us too because the nursery has more than 50% of our closet/drawer space for our entire home. It's the only real closet in the house other than our tiny coat closet and very small food pantry. At first we considered keeping DH's clothes in there, but he needs constant access to them so I didn't think it would work with baby (hopefully) sleeping. So we are buying a dresser to use instead of our current media stand and his hanging things will have to go in the bedroom wardrobe (there are no closets in our bedroom, only a built in wardrobe the previous owners left) which still isn't ideal because the hanger is so high he has to get on a stepstool now to reach his things. Oh, city life!

@FutureMrsMcK: Thanks!
@StbHisMrs: Don't feel bad, I didn't put two and two together until I saw your post and the one in the Due Dates thread!
Unless something happens, I plan for my last day at work to be next Thursday. The day before my due date lol. I'm pretty much ready to go now though in terms of work done. Neatening up my desk today.

@Grace: Settling on names is SO hard. We have top contenders, but I'm totally start to doubt my choices.
@Alivoo01: Your little man is SO adorable! I'm already super impatient for my babe, seeing pictures amplifies it so much!
@strawberrybee: An ikea lampshade and pretty much everything else ikea
The only non-ikea nursery item was our rocker.
@Modern Daisy: You have 7 months until the wedding, I'm sure you'll fit in your bridesmaid dress. I read that in the first 4 weeks most women drop 25-30 lbs.!
We don't have much closet space either, so I am using the closet in the nursery for the clothes and shoes I don't wear all the time (like heels and dresses). The baby clothes are all in a dresser. DH and I are sharing the closet in our bedroom, with my everyday stuff and all his things. Adding a whole other person is hard!
@Lawbee11: That swelling sounds horrible! I'm pretty swollen but not as bad as yours sounds. Maybe just a 250 lb. women.
@chanzi: I've been watching these videos about breastfeeding today. I couldn't make any of the classes offered and don't want to be totally unprepared either!

At my last appointment everything looked good and my practice is pretty relaxed, so I don't even have another appointment until August 2 (last one was July 18th!). I don't have any cramps or pressure or anything. Starting to get a little stir crazy and ready for this baby!

@strawberrybee: Yes I did. I had her document my whole labor and delivery. Can’t wait to see what other pictures she captured!
@sapphiresun: @modern daisy: @lawbee11: @chanzi: @jesskas: Thanks ladies!
@Grace: Thanks!! They do say the camera adds 5lbs so… LOL!!!
@Modern Daisy: ouch on the dress price tag!
@StbHisMrs: LOL!! It’s okay. The file isn’t easily accessible unless you’re on a computer (for me at least).
@lawbee11: oh man!! Scary, but glad the dr wrote you a note so that you can rest up. You'll enjoy this time off, I'm sure!

@Modern Daisy: That does sound rough! We have reasonably good closet space in our apartment so things are definitely not as tight as they sound at your place. I imagine the baby is going to be waking me up more than the other way around, so I hope having most of my clothes in the nursery won't be a big deal.
@Jesskas: Wow, I didn't know the weight went that rapidly! That definitely makes me feel better about gaining more than I had originally thought I would. I was just watching those same videos! The eating babies are so cute.

@Grace: No, luckily it doesn't cut into my mat leave. I was already planning to take off through the new year, and my company was totally cool with me taking off a couple of weeks early (I haven't been all that productive lately anyways because I am too preoccupied with baby thoughts!)
@chanzi: I've been reading The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding--it's really good!
cherry / 233 posts
@lawbee11: That's the book I have waiting for me at the library! I need to go pick it up but I was kind of hoping to make some progress on the other books I haven't read before I did. I have The Circumcision Decision and Heading Home with Your Newborn but I've barely cracked either of them.

@chanzi: Here are the two links she said were most useful...
http://www.drjacknewman.com and http://www.lalecheleague.com
Hopefully they help some! They also said that most all L&D nurses are more than happy to work with you in the hospital if you express an interest in breast feeding!

@lawbee11: Happy Maternity leave to you too, then. Sorry about your swelling. I thought mine was bad/painful, but not so bad that my doctor was freaked out... I can't even imagine. I had to wear my husband's flip flops the other day, because I couldn't even get my own on.

Here goes day 1 of freezer prep...on the list for today: choc chip cookie dough, oatmeal cookie dough, blueberry muffins, choc chip muffins, NE Clam Chowder and Mississippi Bean bake! I am going to be tired by the time I am done - I see lots of resting breaks in my future!!!
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
@Mrs D: That's one delicious food prep you got going there!! I just had breakfast, but am drooling at your menu. Ha!
@lawbee11: That's awesome it doesn't cut into your maternity leave AND you get leave up until the new year!
blogger / honeydew / 7081 posts
@Mrs D: That sounds fantastic! I've made oatmeal cookie dough and muffins, and today's task was blending and freezing a ton of spinach and kale for smoothies.

Its 3pm and I am TOTALLY exhausted! 55 muffins, 11 dozen cookies (in dough form), 6 containers of NE Clam Chowder, 7 portions of Mississippi Bean bake and 4 small containers of egg sausage casserole...successful day!
Tomorrow is baked potato soup (I think I have what I need to make split pea in my pantry so I may get ambitious) and coffee cake. I'll be feeling good after this weekend but still have two more big days of food prepped planned for next weekend!

Anybody else dealing with super painful yet still irregular BH? I work tonight and am about to call in...
honeydew / 7295 posts
i am a lurker here and incredibly impressed with how long this thread is. WOW. Also i have been looking for a list of all of you august mamas due date and whos babies have come and i can't find one. Would love to see. Labor dust to all of you!!!
blogger / honeydew / 7081 posts
@Mrs Hedgehog: I'm having irregular pains - but I equate them more to period cramps and gas pain than reminding me of any BH. If you're concerned at all, you've got a good excuse to call off work. Do they decrease/go away when you change what you're doing or drink water?

@redsmarties: not really but recently they have become less painful but tighter and close together and I I know when one is starting simply because it suddenly gets really hard to breath.
blogger / honeydew / 7081 posts
@Mrs Hedgehog: Hmm. Haven't experienced that! I know that they say "real" contractions are longer, stronger and closer together. Its tough to know what's "normal" at this stage in the game.
pomegranate / 3329 posts
@Mrs Hedgehog: @redsmarties: For me BH aren't painful, just tight. When I have contractions regular or irregular they stop me in my tracks with pain, sometimes crampy, sometimes they feel like I'm being stabbed, and sometimes they're in my back. Ugh. I'm ready to be done!!

I can't keep up at the cottage!
@Mrs D: Way to go on the freezer meals! Not bad for your first day, no wonder you are exhausted!
@Mrs Hedgehog: no painful BH for me. Mine are just a strong tightening, but no pain. I have lots of groin pain now when I stand up, I think baby has moved down even lower. Keeping my legs crossed for the next two days until I'm back home from the cottage!
Someone gave the link to Jack Newman up above. My sister in law who is having lots of nipple pain with breast feeding got the Jack Newman ointment, and felt Sooooo much better. So keep that in mind girls! It is by prescription only.

@Mrs D: Wow, I can definitely believe you are exhausted! I 'm tired and all I really did today was grocery shopping, fairly minor kitchen cleaning, and making a quinoa salad for a potluck!
nectarine / 2220 posts
@Mrs D: Way to go. Maybe I should think about making some cookie dough... I could probably make room in my freezer for that deliciousness...
Update from yesterday. I had to go re-do my non-stress test and yesterday's looked perfect. In and out in 22 minutes as they were actually able to establish a baseline better. Had an ultrasound due to the GD and the tech estimated that baby's currently weighing in at 7lbs 11oz. So, we'll discuss that at my Tuesday appointment I assume, but it doesn't seem like it would be such a big baby that they won't let me attempt to deliver naturally or will really feel like we need to induce early.

@redsmarties: I got it doll. I am so over the moon excited for you! I followed your epic journey here. Sending heavenly labor dust.

@JessKas: ha, love me some ikea :). I may hit it up tomorrow since I still have to get the octopus clothesclip hanging thingies for the cloth diapers. You know, this http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/80189663/?query=PRESSA+Hanging+dryer+with+16+clothes+clips
@Alivoo01: how wonderful! (re: photographer)
@Mrs D: can I come over your house to eat meals after baby gets here?
@Mrs Hedgehog: I haven't had any BH (as far as I know). Due date is in less than week!
@Sapphiresun: Glad to hear the stress test went off without a hitch! I've heard that the estimates on weight can be rather inaccurate. I'm kinda glad they aren't giving me any indication as to her size. I prefer to be in the dark on the matter.
Got a pedicure with my step daughter today (I never ever treat myself to these things, but it was so nice!). Now at least when my legs are above my head I'll know that my feet aren't horrible looking (I'm sure that will be my #1 priority at that point
).

Oh, and I got my Medela Freestyle in the mail yesterday! I managed to track down the one durable medical supplier who was still kinda offering them (had to call back every day until their shipment came in and they confirmed they had some left over after filling their backorders). $125 upcharge, and insurance paid the rest. I haven't opened it yet; kind of wondering if I should or if I should wait to make sure that my supply comes in first before breaking the hygiene seal. I was pleasantly surprised to see that it comes with two flange sizes; the M and L.

Just a super quick note. Brooklyn iris was born at 1:50pm on July 27th. 6 pounds 11 ounces 19 " long. Water started "dribbling" at 8am and contractions around 9am. She's beautiful and perfect.
nectarine / 2220 posts
@StrawberryBee: Yeah, they said if anything the estimates over-estimate. I would have preferred to stay in the dark about it as well, but I guess with the diabetes a baby that's growing bigger than it should is an actual concern. Just too bad that some of my cutest stuff is NB size (7lbs and under) because it doesn't sound like ours is coming out tiny!
@MrsB2012: Oh wow, almost missed your quick note! Congrats!!

@StrawberryBee: I cant remember where you are in the country...but August Mama's are always welcome at my house!!!
Congrats on the pump...I'm jealous!
I also finished Ms Kate's stroller blanky today! Very proud. However, I did just order the kit for her Christmas Stocking which I feel like I pretty much need to start on now - EEEK. And of course, I put off making DH's too forever so now I have two to make. I'm insane!
