@Modern Daisy: I'm planning to have a woodland/rustic theme if we're having a boy. Owls, raccoons, moose, deer, foxes. I love it! And you reminded me about hedgehogs!
grapefruit / 4187 posts
@JamieLee: That's so cool! Did you choose it for any particular reason? My nickname for DH is "bear" and I already refer to our future LO as our "bear cub" so I thought the woodland theme would be perfect
pineapple / 12802 posts
@JamieLee: @Modern Daisy: Ours started off as "owls" but now has raccoons, foxes and rabbits. Kinda woodland!? haha

@Modern Daisy: We live in northern Michigan in the country and DH is a outdoorsy kind of guy, hunting and fishing and all that, as is my dad, so I thought it would be perfect. Plus, there's so much cute stuff in that theme, so it's easy to find!

@Mrs Hedgehog: Congrats on little girlie baby hedgehog!
@JamieLee: Beautiful floors! I like your green walls too.
@StrawberryBee: Your inspiration board is so pretty! I love how it's girlie without being overboard pink.
@MrsD: You are so way more productive than me. I think I know what I want to put on a registry, but I haven't even thought of doing it.
@Andrea86: Congrats on your little boy! It's exciting seeing all of you find out what your having. Makes me jealous...although, still staying Team Green.
@.twist.:@Modern Daisy: @JamieLee: LOL , we might end up with woodland theme too. Not sure yet, but the greens and cherry furniture certainly lends itself to it. Plus, Etsy has so many cute prints and wallstickers.
I'm glad all of you liked the greens. It was making me feel a little more confident. But then we went to pick up the paint and changed our mind. Now the dark green is staying the same, but the light green is lighter. So, I'm not so worried about it being too dark. And we cleaned out the room (it was soooooo full of junk) and TSP-ed the walls, so we're good to go with the paint. It's nice to have things move along, eh?

So, I posted a poll, and I know you ladies always have some good input. DH and I are 99% sure that little girl will be Kennedy, but we're having some middle name trouble. Would you pop on over and vote for me? (He likes to see concrete evidence, haha).

So today I'm trying to research car seats/strollers and I'm overwhelmed by all the options . For car seats I'm leaning towards the Graco snugride classic connect because it's light-weight and has gotten good ratings, with the snug rider elite stroller base to keep in the car for shopping trips etc. I don't want anything bulky for travel. I do however want a nice stroller to keep at home for long walks and that's where I'm stuck! I was getting all excited for the Uppa Baby Vista, and thought it would be nice to have the bassinet feature for walks when the baby is little. That way I wouldn't have to take keep lugging the car seat around and snapping it in, but then I read a horrible review about how the stroller basically fell apart on someone!
Has anyone else made car seat/stroller decisions yet? If so, what have you decided on?
pineapple / 12802 posts
@skipper2010: It is pretty frustrating. I have found this over-view of products really helpful. http://www.lucieslist.com/1-car-seats-and-rtollers/
As for me? we're going with the Chicco Keyfit Infant Carseat. I like that it's a middle of the road carseat as far as expense and it's relatively compact. It's gotten some really good reviews and it just generally makes me happy to look at. haha
For the stroller we're getting the City Mini. I'm choosing this one (with carseat adaptor) because I wanted something that will last from infant to toddler and I only want ONE stroller. I don't want a travel system and I like how easy this one is said to pack up with only one hand! It also just makes me happy to look at it.
grapefruit / 4545 posts
@skipper2010: We got two lengthy chats from stroller/car seat people at BuyBuyBaby and BabysRUs. We went with the Britax BAgile for a stroller (toddler stroller that an infant carrier snaps into- it is very similar to the City Mini. We are having the Britax BSafe Car Seat because it is adaptable to our BAgile and the super lightweight BNimble umbrella stroller we registered for for travel and short shopping trips. For toddler car seats we got the entry price Britax Marathon - this was the only no brainer because everyone I have spoken to and both "experts" agreed that Britax makes hands down the safest and most well constructed car seats. I'm sure others are all good too as they obviously have to pass standards but I was sold when I saw that Britax is constructed of steel where others use more plastic.
I definitely suggest going to the store and trying them out. My mom and I spent time alone (without help from the store people) just seeing if we liked how they felt and if we could figure out how to break them down. Then we started gathering more information once we knew which ones we felt were most user friendly!
Good luck!!!

@skipper2010: We bought the Chicco KeyFit30 for our car seat and are looking at getting the City Select for our stroller. We chose the Select because we plan on having baby #2 around when baby #1 is One so this will easily convert to a double stroller without the bulk. If we weren't planning on having kids close in age, we were going to go with the City Versa. We really liked that one! The other contendor was the Britax B-Agile, it's pretty similar to the City Versa.

@andrea86: Congrats on your baby boy! So exciting!!
@JamieLee: The floors look awesome!!
@redsmarties: Love, love, love Kennedy! I'll go vote on your poll right now!
@skipper2010: I think we're going with the UppaBaby Mesa car seat (it comes out in April or May). It's more expensive than the Chicco KeyFit, but we won't need to buy an adapter for our UppaBaby Cruz, so it's not THAT much more expensive when you factor in the cost of the adapter. It's gotten amazing safety reviews, and it's just plain gorgeous

@skipper2010: We're going with the Chicco Keyfit 30 car seat. I have a couple friends who've had that one and both loved them, and it has gotten great reviews. We're also getting a second base from my friend so we won't have to buy that.
We'll probably go with the Chicco Cortina stroller (part of the Chicco travel system) for shopping and travel. For us, price is a consideration. I would love to be able to get one of the more pricey strollers, but I don't think we can swing it, especially because I also want an all terrain stroller for walks around our house. We live on a rough dirt road, and I don't think a stroller with regular wheels will be able to handle it. So I am hoping to get one of the Jeep strollers with the big rubber tires. I would probably keep the Chicco stroller in my car and the Jeep stroller set up, ready to go in the garage. I wouldn't just get the Jeep stroller though because I've heard that it doesn't fold up well and it's still huge even folded.
But I haven't actually looked at the other options out there at BRU and BBB. I've only seen the Chicco and Jeep strollers because that's what my friend has. We went to Target, but they only have Graco and like Safety First on display. I might change my mind once I try some out in April when we go downstate to check out those stores!

@Mrs D: @lawbee11: @.twist.: @msmay: @Grace: Thanks!!
@lawbee11: I love Restoration Hardware colors; esp Silver Sage (I've used Butter everywhere). SS is so pretty and subtle
@andrea86: congrats on your boy!!!
@JamieLee: Luuuurve the floors. They're absolutely gorgeous.
@skipper2010: no, it still hasn't really hit me that this is real ;).
@Alivoo01: Thanks! It's from Target, the Delta Bentley S Series 4 in 1 crib: http://www.target.com/p/delta-bentley-s-series-4-in-1-crib/-/A-14317936
@skipper2010: we're going with the Graco SnugRide Click Connect 35 Infant Car Seat. Looks like the stroller will be the Graco FastAction Fold Click Connect Jogger Stroller for DH and the Graco FastAction Fold Sport Click Connect for me.
blogger / honeydew / 7081 posts
We're going with the Britax BAgile and the Marathon for our stroller/carseat combo. I am in love with it, and hubby was hilarious test driving it (it turns on a dime, apparently a very important feature).
Thanks for the name votes!! We've been calling her Kennedy for the last 2 days to test it out.

I'm still torn about strollers and hoping for a sale to pop up that will make the decision for me. It's between the b-agile + bsafe carseat (cheaper combo) and the city mini gt (better wheels) + Graco Snugride 22 (much lighter) for more money. Hoping for a sale!!

@.twist.: Oooo I just put the citi mini on top of my list of strollers to check out in person. It looks like a great versatile light-weight option! Thanks for sharing!
@Mrs D: Looks like I'll be taking a trip to BRU to check out these options in person. Now that I have researched a few I'll hopefully be able to narrow it down inside the store and not feel so overwhelmed. Thanks for the input!
@Alivoo01: The chicco keyfit is one of the two car seats I'm interested in as well. I'll have to look into the citi select stroller. I like that it will convert to a double stroller as we plan on having kids close in age as well. (Well that's the plan for now. We'll see how it goes with baby #1 first)
@lawbee11: The UppaBaby mesa car seat sounds lovely!
@JamieLee: Sounds like the Chicco Keyfit is a big hit around here. I'm going to check it out and see how it compares to the Graco Snugride I'm also looking at.
Thanks to everyone for their input! You have helped me out tremendously!

Hi everyone! Just spent some time reading through all your recent posts, and all I can say is WOW! You ladies are on the ball!!!
We just paid a deposit yesterday to have our basement finished with a bathroom and den/office area!! This needs to be done before baby's room can be started. It's fun picking everything out for both spaces, but somewhat overwhelming!
I'm 80% sold on the BOB revolution as our stroller - I plan on jogging with LO (once its safe) as a way to work back to my pre-preggo bod... and wardrobe! There are chicco and graco car seats that we like, but need to do some more sleuthing before we can make a decision.
Sad news... My sister had a miscarriage over the weekend. She hasn't felt up to talking to me outside of texts and emails. My heart is aching for her and I'm not quite sure what to say. Putting myself in her shoes, I know it will be difficult for her to watch us go through the next few milestones. She is trying to keep herself busy.
Oh... And we have decided that we are not going to be team grilled cheese. I'm way too snoopy to wait until end of August. So I will have a gender update on April 4th!
Sorry to lump all of this info in one post! Hope everyone is doing well
cantaloupe / 6730 posts
@Ocean girl: Oh, that sucks about your sister. Hopefully, she'll be able to see you as a support, but I do think it would be hard.
Also, Team Grilled Cheese will be sorry to see you go!
kiwi / 637 posts
@Grace: I agree, I don't think my sister will automatically go to me for support in this situation like she would for others.... She couldn't even tell me herself - she asked our mom to call me. I think she is (in her big sisterly way) trying to protect me....

@Ocean girl: I'm so sorry to hear about your sister's loss. I totally understand the heartache and disappointment. She'll come around after a couple months, if not sooner!
As for your gender reveal - woohoo!! April 4th will be here soon enough!
clementine / 930 posts
@Ocean girl: I think your sister will eventually come around. When we had our m/c, I had my husband call everyone close to us and tell them. I just couldn't talk to anyone for a while. I had a close friend who was due about 5 days before we were supposed to be due, and I had a hard time with her updates, but I got over it and was able to celebrate with her. I think the best thing you can do now is respect her healing process, but still let her know you care and are thinking about her.

@JamieLee: thanks for sharing. It's nice to hear about your perspective. I have been keeping in touch and asking how she's doing, along with talking about regular every day life things.

@redsmarties: I love the name Kennedy! My DD is Kennady, we spelled it with an "a" for two reasons. I think its more feminine and we wanted to call her Kenna for short. I havent seen your poll yet, but our Kennady's middle name is Nicole. Now I'm off to find your poll!
@skipper2010: We decided on the Uppababy Vista with the Mesa carseat. I've heard great reviews, we got an awesome deal on the stroller, and the carseat is BEAUTIFUL!
blogger / honeydew / 7081 posts
@andrea86: KennAdy is very cute as well! The only reason we're going with an E is because that's how the majority of people spell it...and DH is a terrible speller. I'd like him to hopefully remember the spelling, haha.
Look at what we got today! We couldn't figure out how to get our scan photos from the CD we were given, so DH took the CD to work and had the tech guys do it for him (we're Mac users, and the CD was NOT Mac compatible). Check out little miss Kennedy!
cherry / 163 posts
@skipper2010: like MrsD, we decided on the Britax B-Agile with the B-Safe infant car seat. It has pretty great safety ratings and I read a review online about a woman who got into a pretty bad accident and the police told her that the car seat saved her baby's life. Sold!
@Ocean girl: I'm so sorry to hear about your sister I'll keep her in my thoughts and prayers.
And don't leave team GC! It's so hard to stay strong with all of these gender reveals. Oh well, we'll miss you!
@redsmarties: look at little Kennedy! It's like she's looking at you in the photo SO cute!
cherry / 134 posts
@redsmarties: Haha! I know, I was actually worried about her having to constantly tell people how to spell her name, but honestly as soon as people hear the name "Kennady" they ask how to spell it. I have been surprised how many times people spell it with an "i". Weird huh? Regardless of spelling I LOVE the name!
We are having the hardest time coming up with a name for this little boy. Poor thing may never have a name! Anybody want to name him for me?!
pineapple / 12802 posts
@Ocean girl: aw, I'm so sorry to hear about your sister. That is not fair.
@redsmarties: Look at that little babe in there! SO CUTE.
@andrea86: Oh gosh, we had the HARDEST time finding a name for a boy. I was saying how our son would be nameless! Then all of a sudden a name neither of us had considered came up and we both loved it. I hope the same revelation happens for you!!!
cherry / 134 posts
@msmay: Haha! I take back my offer, that might be worse than no name at all.
@.twist.: Ahh I hope so too! I just told my DH that our boys names were all used when naming the twins! My brother did call today and recommend the name "Wolverine". LOL
pear / 1812 posts
@JamieLee: That is what we are doing too! I love turtles and owls and Mr Hedgie is obsessed with, well, Hedgehogs. Lol. So a woodland theme it is for us! Its turning into mostly owls and hedgehogs though. We actually decided on that before we even knew the gender because we somehow have a ton of turtle, owl, and hedgehog stuffed animals.
kiwi / 637 posts
@andrea86: @.twist.: we are in the same boat for boy names! We each wrote down a list of names we liked and then read them out to each other, crossing out ones that either of us disliked. But we still have 5 names that we like, but don't necessarily love! It's funny because we are 100% sold on a girl name.
Ugh - we got a dumping of snow yesterday and this morning I slipped at the bottom of our lane while walking our dog and landed hard on my butt! I'm 17 wks, 3 days and have looked up what to do/asked DH and have found that if you're pre-24 wks you should just monitor yourself and call your doc if anything concerning happens. To be honest, the only thing that hurts is my left butt cheek! Grumble!
cantaloupe / 6730 posts
@redsmarties: Hi little Miss Kennedy! That sounds so adorable.
@Ocean girl: How did that POS snowstorm have enough left in it to give you a dumpload of snow?? Shouldn't it be dry by now? It left us 17 cm on Monday. How's that for 2 days before spring? *sob*last year at this time there was no snow and I was putting together my new composter on the deck in short sleeves.
I fell down three stairs a few days ago and apparently the baby is super cushioned, so we're both ok. Hope your butt recovers soon!

@Grace: I know!! I was talking with a neighbor this morning and we were saying that this time last year we had a freak heatwave with 27 degree temps!!! Oh well, hopefully that's the last of it... 8 degrees on the weekend our bodies are amazing to create so much padding for LO!
pineapple / 12802 posts
@andrea86: hahaha oh they think it's so funny don't they!? My husband said PANTHER was a good name. Yes, please let's name our son after a jungle cat, PLEEEEEASE. haha Panther did not get my vote.
@Ocean girl: We were totally sold on a girls name as well. That's how I knew it would be a boy. lol
@Grace: We still have a few days of snow in the forecast! I am really hoping that it starts to settle down soon. I'm in desperate need of some sunshine, the gloom is starting to get to me!
I bought a crapload of maternity clothes last night (via my lovely mother) and am wearing some today. I'm not totally sure how I feel about them. The panel on the pants doesn't quite fit and I feel like they're falling down all the time. The shirt is a wrap and I didn't think of it until now (I have to pee) that between the panel and the wrapping of the top these pieces are going to be a pain in the ass. I can't wait to wear a pair of the jeans I got, which are so much more comfortable than the work stuff.

@Ocean girl: So sorry to hear about your sister's loss :(. It sounds like the both of you are being very understanding and taking each other's feelings into consideration.
@lawbee11: @andrea86: The Mesa looks awesome! What colors are you girls picking?
@redsmarties: Hello Kennedy! beautiful U/S!
@.twist.: @andrea86: what is it with men and the naming thing? I've been asking my DH what he wants to name the baby, and he's been alternating between my name with a jr. on the end and his name with -ica on the end (think Bobbica, Mattica, etc.). Har har dear, very funny.
So a few nights ago he tells me: "We should probably have a boy name, just in case." Well, first this decided for me that we're definitely getting a 3D U/S ;). And then I told him the name I like for a boy, the ONLY name I've picked, which is Jeremy Robert (ourlastname). Robert for my late grandfather. And he responds with: "eh."
EH?? So I prodded him that he needs to start giving me real name choices then, if my top choice gets an "eh" response! I didn't think anyone could hate the name Jeremy (for those of you who know me on FB, I have a pretty unusual first name, so I was proud of myself for picking a more mainstream boy name).
He didn't dislike the name Ella, so that's still in the running. Darn him for wanting to voice an opinion!
Had our dr's appointment on Monday and all is well! My next one will be April 15th. The sequential screen came back great, I measured "perfectly" for 20 weeks, and baby's heartrate was 155. Yay! I also signed up for childbirth classes/hospital tour (unfortunately both of those are weekends we have the stepkids), and a breastfeeding class.
