@Ocean girl: Very sorry to hear about your sis. It will be hard to watch you go through your pregnancy but I am sure she will also be super happy for you. In September I had a mc and a few weeks later found out my bro and SIL were expecting. It was hard but I never stopped being excited for them. Luckily I got pregnant again shortly after and maybe your sis will too. Sorry you are leaving team grilled cheese
@.twist.: I love your name choice! I love how Reilly comes from your maiden name.
@Modern Daisy: The only people who are opinionated are those who think we shouldn't find out, which we aren't so it's fine by me. My parents both said right away that if we find out they don't want to know.
@redsmarties: love Kennedy! I voted Kennedy Anne in your poll!
@.twist.: my mat pants were falling down on me a couple weeks ago and now they feel too tight! I'm worried I bought the wrong size and will have to buy more to fit towards the end. Although I guess by then we will all be in shorts and dresses!
@lawbee11: Our new target opened up yesterday and I rushed over to try to find that beautiful blue and grey shirt you were wearing in this week's Bump shot. They didn't have it I didn't realize that target had a pretty good selection though!

As for me, we had our anatomy scan yesterday too. I love seeing the LO, event though we really were only allowed to watch the screen for 10 minutes then the tech turned it away for measurements. I won't get any results til my doc appointment next Tuesday March 26 but everything looked good to me Baby was slightly uncooperative because it only wanted to stay face down so I might have to go back again for better heart shots. We tried to get baby to flip but I guess it was too comfy. Heart beat was 136 which seems low but I don't really know what the ranges are and baby was snoozing during that measurement.

I finally feel some movement. Nothing big like kicks, just little tickles or flutters but I know I will feel more soon!

@delight: Ooooh, isn't the old wives' tale that heartbeats under 140 are boys? Regardless, I think you are totally in the normal range.

pomelo / 5326 posts

@Grace: ok I had to go look it up. I am trying not to google things too much.....haha but it says 120-160 is within the normal range. I'm still convinced girl for me, not sure why! It would be interesting to see if that old wives' tale had any merit!

@delight: Glad your scan went well! Our little one was face-down too for a bit - the notes that we got today said they had some trouble seeing the heart as well (but they saw enough that it was okay). Not sure what the ranges for heart rate are either, but baby's heart rate was 140 today. I think your 136 is pretty normal!

@delight: glad you had a good scan

As for me, I had a major pregnant lady meltdown today. I've been suffering from a cold with bad cough for about two weeks now. Today my head felt like someone was beating it with a hammer every time I coughed and I am now having major ear pain. I suffer from generalized anxiety disorder and depression, and health anxiety disorder (a nice way of saying hypochondria) and have a habit of consulting Dr. Google, who always says its cancer or something. This time it says brain tumor or aneurysm, and while I know in my head its unlikely, it seriously takes over my thought process to the point that I feel terror in my bones that I'm going to die. I then extrapolate that into all kinds of other fears like dying while giving birth, our baby having anencephaly, etc. I ended up on the phone sobbing to DH and now can't sleep.

I guess my point is, I'm wondering if anyone else suffers from serious anxiety about their health/pregnancy and if so, how do you cope? I used to take Celexa, Buspar, and Klonopin but am off all meds due to the pregnancy. I've been doing pretty well during the pregnancy, but am worried about the rest of it, and also about PPD.

I don't mean to be a Debbie downer, I'm just in need of an outlet at the moment! Thanks in advance for any insight.

@JamieLee: While I dont go through this to the extent I think you do I can totally relate because I am a major planner and panicker with things I cannot control.

As for this pregnancy...to be honest I dont think it has totally hit me. For the baby, I have noticed I am completely agitated and distracted for the week(s) I have had to wait between blood test and results. For example, right now all I can do is research the quad screening, downs, edwards syndrome, etc b/c I convince myself for sure that the baby will have one of these. The minute they call and give me the results I am totally fine - but between the test and results I am secretly a mess. I have my fingers crossed that after this result and the anatomy scan I will be able to feel comfortable that all is basically well.

As for labor - this is where I am terrified and I dont think the enormity of it has hit me yet. For now, I have been so focused on the baby growing and developing that I have all but forgot about what I have to go through. I have fears that my second half of pregnancy will be spent panicking and trying to plan out labor (which we all know is impossible). I am very much trying to take a laid back what ever happens approach (and am having total success on the birth plan front) but I know as it gets closer I will start the irrational death during birth thoughts.

For the record...I have (and still do) eat whatever I want on the day I am about to board a flight because I am convinced the plane will crash and I want to enjoy my last meal. I have such issues!

@JamieLee: Oh Sweetie! First off, I've discovered that colds without cold medication SUCK. And that ear pain/headache is because it's moved into your sinuses. But, the good news is thay it might be on it's way out. But it does hurt like a mofo.

Second thing I've discovered is that those pregnancy hormones are sneaky! See, I thought I was doing really well and being a level headed person during pregnancy, but when I have a bad day, those hormones seem to make me think that it's 10x worse. That it's never going to end. Rational Me looks at Irrational Me and doesn't know what to do.

So what I am saying is that what you are feeling is normal and I bet with your anxiety it just makes it feel worse. So hugs! Did you talk to a therapist when you first got diagnosed? My sister had (has?) an anxiety disorder and she needed to talk it out with her therapist when she went off the meds. She also went to a meditation class where she learned to centre herself (for lack of a better word). I'm not sure exactly what they taught in that class, but it seemed to work wonders. Perhaps you have something like that in your area? She also had mediation CDs - I bet there are some on-line.

@Modern Daisy: Family immediately asked when our anatomy scan was, and non-family asked if we were finding out or not, but didn’t impose their thoughts on yay or nay that we were finding out. Family definitely voiced their opinion they wanted a girl, but we’re having a boy. Some showed disappointment but are excited for us none the less. It didn’t bother the hubby and me though. We’re just happy to have a healthy baby.

@lawbee11: CFA – yum!!! There’s just something about them that makes them so darn good!!! Yay for a good appointment! And I’ve had all the food you miss. LOL!!! I just order a decaf skinny vanilla latte instead of the full bodied one.

@Mrs Hedgehog: I totally feel ya on trying to keep up! It’s awesome we all have so many updates though because that means things are progressing, but if I’m not on HB daily, OMG! I don’t know how I’d keep up with everyone. Haha! I also notice that I’m a lot thirstier now than before also! Sadly, I still don’t think I consume enough water… =(

@delight: I was going to say 136 sounds fine bc of the wives tale also! For me, it wasn’t true. Our baby’s heart rate has been a steady 160, and we’re having a boy! As for ultrasounds, ours are normally projected onto a bigger screen on the wall while the technician views on the smaller screen of the machine. Sorry you didn’t a longer view time of your LO!

@JamieLee: First off, big hugs to you for the overwhelming feelings! I don’t experience the extent you described, but I think being preggo, and FTM for anyone is nerve wrecking! I had a previous loss so I wasn’t fully “enjoying” my pregnancy until we had our NT scan and was out of the 1st trimester where the probability of a loss lessens greatly. Does it prevent it, no, but I just felt better. What I found that helps me on a daily basis is to concentrate on today – growing and nurturing the baby. Just trying to mellow myself out and connect with the baby. Kind of like meditation? Peace and quiet right before bed and tell the baby how thankful I am for him and I can’t wait to meet him. How he’s making me feel that day, and now that I feel periodic flutters, a smile appears on my face because it’s just more reassurance. Hubby is a complete 180 from me personality wise so when an appt is coming up and I predict the worse (e.g. can’t find the heartbeat, they find an abnormality, etc.) or my fears start to overwhelm me, I talk it out with the hubby. He’s been my rock and is great at bringing things in perspective. For instance, I constantly worry about the baby’s well-being. He tells me to relax because hello! My belly is growing which means he’s doing just fine and is growing. Good point. Whether my belly is larger that day bc it’s more food baby than actual baby is a different story. Haha!

@Mrs Hedgehog: Thanks!

After telling all you girls it's really growing on me and we decided we'd tell our parents. Told DH's parents last night and they LOVED it so I'm really happy! Will tell my parents this weekend when I see them, I think my dad will just be so honoured.

@delight: Oh, I cannot WAIT to get into shorts and dresses!!!! I hope this summer is gorgeous out! Please do not wait until mid July to get nice, please oh, please! *fingers crossed*. YAY for movement!!! Isn't it exciting??? Oh, and Our baby had a high heart beat at every single scan (girl!) and ended up being a boy! So I don't put too much stock into the old wives tales. The Chinese gender prediction chart though, that was correct for me.

@JamieLee: Definitely use this place as an outlet, that's what we're here for. I don't really have any advice because I don't suffer from those things, but I am definitely a good listener (I think a lot of us are) and if you just need to rant, please do. I'm so sorry you're feeling so anxious and scared right now. Do you have any calming techniques that you can do to help??

I also agree with what @grace: said about when you have a bad day the hormones make it seem 10x worse!! A good nights rest and some comfort food and cuddling with DH or a pet might really help make you feel better (at least it has for me). Sometimes even just a good cry reeeeeally helps. The hormones really are terrible.

clementine / 930 posts

@Mrs D: We actually haven't had any of those screenings, mainly because of my anxiety. DH just thought it would make everything worse, because of the chance of false positives. But now I'm super worried about the anatomy scan, because that's where they will find out if there's anything majorly wrong with the baby. And I hear ya on the plane thing. I actually have to take Xanax whenever I fly. I could never do all the traveling you do!

@Grace: Thanks for the reassurance about the cold. I'm actually feeling a little better today, still sniffly and coughing, but no headache (yet...knock on wood) and no ear pain. So maybe I'm on my way to healthy! I saw three different therapists over the last four years, but the first two were mainly to do with my depression. The last one I loved and she really helped me, which is why I felt okay about going off my meds. I would say that I am 75% better, but I still have those days, and the hormones do make those days much worse! They also make me into a raging you know what sometimes too, but that's another story! I need to get back to my breathing exercises at night too...

@Alivoo01: I do need to concentrate more on today, in all aspects of my life. DH is the total opposite of me also. He doesn't worry about anything except money, and he always tries to make me feel better. His thought is, any one of us could die tomorrow, but what's the point in worrying about it today? I understand the reasoning, but it's easier said than done! I lost my best friend at 19 to a car accident and my mom at 53 to a freak blood clot, so I'm constantly worried about losing someone else. I'm going to be a wreck when I have a kid! LOL at the food baby btw. Made me smile. I think once I start feeling that baby move, and after we have our anatomy scan, I will feel a lot better.

@.twist.: I hear ya on the gorgeous summer! For our first day of spring yesterday, we dealt with a foot of fresh snow, and it hasn't stopped coming down since Monday. I think the high was 25...ugh! I'm ready to see some color (other than white and gray). Glad to hear your ILs liked your name choice! I am feeling a lot better today. I haven't been sleeping well for weeks, which can't help...thanks to everyone for the advice and kind words!

Here's my survey results from yesterday:

1. Having any pregnancy symptoms? I'm doing okay now - not sleeping much and having food aversions but far better than morning sickness!
2. Belly button in or out? In, but getting more shallow...
3. What do you miss? Wine and Beer!!!! And lunchmeat - I just want a turkey sanwich!
4. Favourite item you've purchased so far? Pretty excited about the diaper bag I bought yesterday thanks to the encouraging of some of you ladies!
5. Any prediction on baby being early, on time or late? Well...my mom and sister went 10 and 12 days early with their first - so maybe a touch early? who knows...
6. What is the little ones nickname from you/DH? My family has adopted Poppy because when I told them all at christmas that was how big it was a poppy seed. Thats the only constant nickname...my father in law refers to my pregnancy as my "condition" which I get a kick out of!

Back home from Vegas for 3 days before heading to Hungary! Feels good to be home - I usually love traveling but now I just wanna stay home these days!

What are you all doing about carseats on your registry? Are you doing one infant to toddler carset or are you doing separate infant and toddler or just infant or just toddler?

15. Modern Daisy

grapefruit / 4187 posts

Also, would you think it is 'gift grabby' to put items like a lamp, curtain panels and a wall clock on the registry?

16. JamieLee

clementine / 930 posts

@Mrs D: I want a turkey sandwich too! It makes it hard to go out to lunch or to pack a lunch!

@Modern Daisy: I was planning to just put the infant carseat but one of my new momma friends said to put both. She said that if someone buys it, awesome, but if not, no biggie. Plus, if its on your registry you can get the completion discount. And I think it's okay to put decor items. I've been to plenty of showers where they receive those items or storage items. It's for baby, right?

17. Modern Daisy

grapefruit / 4187 posts

@JamieLee: Yes, all the decor items would be for the nursery.

I have another registry question: How many items total are on your registry and of those items how many are over $150?

18. Alivoo01

wonderful olive / 19353 posts

@JamieLee: Glad I made you smile! =)

@Modern Daisy: We currently have an infant on there (that I marked Purchased), and am debating about putting a convertible car seat as well... I'm just starting my registry so can't answer your total # question yet.

19. .twist.

pineapple / 12802 posts

@JamieLee: So glad you're feeling better today

@Modern Daisy: I'm not even putting the car seat on the registry, I guess because I'm picky and would rather just get it myself! haha. I don't think putting those things on your registry is gift grabby at all! Some people like to buy that kind of stuff and honestly, if they don't then they won't and it's no big deal!

Also, I believe I haven't something like 36 items on the registry and about 4 - 5 of them are over $150.00 (I would check for you but the online baby registry on BRU is temporarily unavailable).

20. JamieLee

clementine / 930 posts

@Modern Daisy: Lol. I wasn't asking if it was for baby, I meant, it's for baby, so it's all good.

As for my registry, I probably have too much. I will probably go through and remove stuff as I think I went overboard with the cute stuff I was adding online. The Target registry builder says that the average is 23 items in the $0-10 range, 15 in $11-30, 23 in $31-50, and 15 in $50+ for a total of 76. I have a ton in the lower two ranges (57 & 47!) and 6 &14 in the higher. Five of my items are over $150. I guess I have some work to do to whittle it down...

Question-who is planning on having two registries? I have to have a Target registry because its the only store within 3 hours of my house and the people who will come to my "up north" shower. The other shower will be in the metro Detroit area, where I grew up and my family and a lot of friends live, and there is both BBB and BRU, so I would like a registry at one of those stores (most likely BRU). I'll probably have a lot of repeat items and will just have to maintain the registries so when something is purchased off one I take it off the other...thoughts?

21. .twist.

pineapple / 12802 posts

@JamieLee: I am REALLY hoping target is open before my shower so that I can register there. I registered at BRU online, and when I went into the store just recently they had less than HALF of the stuff on my registry in store!!!! The in store selection is HORRIBLE. So, I'm really hoping for another option or else I'm going to be buying some of the bigger ticket items myself.

22. Modern Daisy

grapefruit / 4187 posts

@JamieLee: Haha sorry I am really tired today! lol! Okay, I am pretty much in-line with what the target builder says is average. I have more over $150 items than I originally thought I would, but there are so many things like the monitor, breast pump, stroller, car seat, etc. that I don't want to cheap out on.

I'm only doing an Amazon registry, but I linked to a ton of items at Buy Buy Baby and Land of Nod for people who prefer to shop at an actual store. Plus there is a buy buy baby in the city so i can return/exchange in person instead of mailing it back if necessary. Actually all of our more expensive registry items are linked to an actual brick & mortar store.

23. JamieLee

clementine / 930 posts

@.twist.: Our Target probably had half of the stuff on my registry in store too, and pretty much none of our big stuff other than the swing. I'm concerned about it. But I'm not going to compromise what we want, you know? Like, they had four bathtubs, but based on recommendations from mommy friends, they didn't have the one I want. They didn't have any Chicco carseats and only Graco and some random brands I'd never heard of for carseats and strollers. If people can't find anything off the registry and they don't want to shop online, there's always gift cards. I was more trying to find lots of stuff in the lower price ranges....I honestly thought BRU would have better in store selection. We have a Toys R Us that has maybe three aisles of baby stuff, but I've never been to a real BRU...

24. Alivoo01

wonderful olive / 19353 posts

@JamieLee: I'm registering on Amazon and will do a BuyBuyBaby one as well for those who prefer a brick and mortar place to shop.

25. JamieLee

clementine / 930 posts

@Modern Daisy: I would consider an Amazon registry if I thought I could get away with it, but I can just imagine the grief I would get from DH's family...these people seem to not understand shopping online.

As it is, he has a few aunts (women in their 40s, not elderly ladies) who refuse to shop off a registry at all. For his cousin's shower (she's having twins in May), they bought her several outfits...she doesn't know what she's having so its all green and yellow. I just think she's going to need so much, it would be nice to get her something she will use a lot rather than clothes the babies will wear a few times. I usually only buy clothes in addition to something else. I just think clothes are a personal taste sort of thing...MIL and I went in on her high chairs.

MIL told them I wasn't going to announce the gender till the shower and they said they weren't going to get me a gift at all because they don't like buying gender neutral clothes...I just think that's so weird!

26. Grace

cantaloupe / 6730 posts

@Modern Daisy: I'm getting an infant seat now and a convertable one later. Don't know if it's going on the registry. I might just buy it if it goes on sale. And I would definitely put decor items down. People love to get things thay will last a little longer.

@JamieLee: Glad you are having a better day. :). I'll probably have two registries. Not everyone I know has access to a BRU, but they all have access to Sears.

27. .twist.

pineapple / 12802 posts

@JamieLee: Ugh. That is frustrating and I had the same problem for strollers and carseats at BRU. We only have Toys R Us that have a BRU section, no actual BRU's around here either. Very frustrating. I worry that people won't be able to find the exact item and they'll end up just buying something from in the store even though it's not what I want. I don't want to seem like a bitch but there are certain items that I just refuse to make a compromise on!!! Stroller, car seat, play yard, carrier, monitor, those kinds of things.

I only have one registry (BuyBuyBaby). I have 53 items on it in total - 6 of them are over $150. Here is a better breakdown:

53 Items Total.
3 Items $300 and over (infant car seat, travel system, monitor)
1 Item $200 and over (umbrella stroller)
2 Items $150-$200 (swing & bedding set - which may get removed)
2 Items $100-$150 (food prep & Jumparoo)
10 Items $50-$100 (bouncer, bundle me, K'tan,
17 Items $25-$50 (boppy, bottles, feeding covers, car seat/stroller) accessories
18 Itesm Under $25

For me, I know who will buy me the 3 big items already (Mom's best friend, Grandma & Dad's girlfriend/family). As for the $150/$200 stuff - again I know this will mostly be family friends of my mom's and dad's along with my sisters. My mom is buying me my rocking chair.

As for the rest of it - I think most of the remaining friends/family fall in the $50-$100 range - and then most of my friends will fall in the $25-$50 range. So I feel good about my distribution and list. I am not revealing our gender until the party - so I am hoping to minimize clothing gifts that way as I really dont want 100 outfits.

When I go to a shower I spend between $25-$100 depending on the friend. My best friend I spent $100 on her, others I am more in the $50 range.

I will likely make a pottery barn registry also for some decor items and not mention it to anyone as I only want it for the discount - plus I dont want to get gift cards for there.

29. JamieLee

clementine / 930 posts

@Mrs D: That looks like a good breakdown. That's nice that you know who is buying you some of the bigger stuff. I know my in laws are buying us the crib mattress (I want an organic one so it's a little pricey). Otherwise, no one has mentioned anything in particular.

I'm also keeping some stuff on our registry for the discount, and also as a kind of shopping list so I can remember the stuff I liked!

For people planning to get a Boppy, are you going to get the new Boppy nursing pillow (http://www.boppy.com/shop/boppy-nursing-pillow/) or the regular Boppy (http://www.boppy.com/shop/boppy-cottony-cute-pillow-with-slipcover/)?

@JamieLee: Hello, fellow worrier! I also have generalized anxiety disorder and major depressive disorder, and am off all meds for the pregnancy. Honestly, I know that all pregnant women are hormonal, but I have some truly bad days. Writing letters to baby and lots of prayer are helping me keep my sanity, but I think its totally fine if we have some off days. There's a LOT going on!!! (Hope you're feeling better!)

@Mrs D: Awesome to know about the registry. We haven't done ours yet, and while I have a general idea of what I want to put on it, it helps to see it all broken down like that. We'll probably have to put more inexpensive items on, like you have, just due to our group of friends. SO excited to register!

@delight: Glad your anatomy scan went well! Sorry they didn't have the shirt, but they do have a good selection of maternity clothes!

@JamieLee: Sorry about your meltdown There are so many worries associated with pregnancy and the hormones don't help. Glad you are feeling better today, though.

@.twist.: Glad your parents love the name!!

@Modern Daisy: We are only registering for an infant car seat. I don't think the nursery decor is gift-grabby at all! We have 62 items on our two registries combined. Of those, 5 are over $150.

As for me, I am finally feeling lots of movement (though it's not very strong). I have been feeling it for about a week, but I didn't think it was movement because it didn't feel like flutters and everyone says it's supposed to feel like flutters. Yesterday during the u/s baby girl would move and I could feel it, so I knew I had been feeling her all along! It feels like a tiny mouse is in there knocking on my uterus!

Oh, and my next appointment is 4/17--just a checkup, nothing too exciting.

@lawbee11: The movement has definitely started. For me, it feels like little nudges, or occasionally like a muscle twinge (but different....right?)
@.twist.: Oops! Forgot to mention yesterday's appt for the list. Oh well! My next one is April 22. Just a check up, though I'm sure we'll be getting things ready for a glucose screen, etc.

you guys, the granite countertops were installed today! they are SO pretty, I couldn't be happier with the color :D. I keep on staring at it. DH is installing the faucet/disposer now (actually, he had to run out to the hardware store for more supplies).

1. Having any pregnancy symptoms? not really! Guess I'm peeing more often, and there are times where my tummy area feels 'full'. Also getting little flutters since last week :D.

2. Belly button in or out? In still!

3. What do you miss? Ha, I cheated and had a roast beef sandwich from Panera the other day ;). Also have been having some cherry coke. I don't usually drink alcohol, so nothing to miss there. I guess I miss going to dog class. I just don't feel up to it right now.

4. Favourite item you've purchased so far? Couldn't choose, I love it all ^__^

5. Any prediction on baby being early, on time or late? I'm assuming late because everyone says your first one usually is. I hope not too late though, because August is one of our quarter ends at work and it would suck for me to have to take a day off for birthday during that time each year. I should be safe until Aug 6th/7th. Whatever will be, will be!

6. What is the little ones nickname from you/DH? Just "baby"! I lie in bed and say "baby!" in wonder to DH.

@Modern Daisy: People seem to be more opinionated when they think I /shouldn't/ find out the gender. Also had an interesting conversation with one of my coworkers in which she went to great length on the horror of swaddling ;). "Just let him move! let him Breathe!" lol

@lawbee11: yay for a great appointment! and omg, look at how cute that yawn is!!

@delight: glad to hear everything went well at your U/S. Our baby's heartrate has gone anywhere from 155 to 140 (girl), so 136 sounds perfectly fine to non-professional me ;).

@JamieLee: I'm sorry to hear you're having a rough time *hugs*. I worry between appointments that something has gone wrong and my body hasn't recognized it, but I try to keep these worries to myself and they're really not much compared to what you're dealing with. I'm not reading baby books. I get my info from HB; I don't want to go into information overload and find out every possible thing that could go wrong. For instance, I didn't focus on the results of our NT scan at all until after we got them (didn't really realize how many horrible things it could predict until it was over and done with...and realized that I was happier not knowing!). I'm even debating if the childbirth classes will be beneficial to me or just send me into a tailspin for two months. My drs are helping keeping me calm; they're so nonchalant about everything.

I have two registries so far: BRU and Amazon. Plan to do Target as well, but I really want to get my hands on the free $20 gift card with registry creation first. I figure only a few out of town relatives will order off of Amazon, the rest is for me and registry completion. BBB is too far away for anyone to shop there (about an hour).

Oh, and I already have the classic Boppy...had no idea they'd come out with a new one!

@Modern Daisy: I'm just putting the infant seat on our registry. Figure that by the time we're ready for the next step something new will be out and I'll want that instead ;). I would so put nursery decorations on the registry -- I bought a matching curtain valence for a coworker, and was excited at the thought of it completing her nursery and being looked at/enjoyed every day.

Some pics of the kitchen, because I can't help myself ^_^. Now I'll actually have to start using it again! Does anyone else just NOT feel like cooking? We're doing takeout all the time now :/.

@StrawberryBee: Oh wow! They look SOOOOO nice! I love your kitchen! I definitely don't really feel like cooking either. We've been eating out a lot of DH makes me dinner most times (I'm a spoiled girl).
