@MRS D: Being self employed definitely has it's down sides too! But yea, he's happy that he can be a little flexible around baby time!

@SAPPHIRESUN: Sounds like you and your husband have a few options for mat leave, so that is super nice! You never really know when you'll need him, etc.

@redsmarties: That sucks! I'm having a similar problem at work with my appointments. We have "flex" time (6 days/year) but because I'm not working a full 12 months this year they've pro-rated my time so I actually only get like... 3.5 days?! So, I've already used up all my flex time and now I'm going to have to use 2 vacations days to make up for the rest of my appointments. They sure don't make it easy to be pregnant. Do you accrue vacation days while you're on mat leave?? If you do, that is very cool. I don't continue to get anything while on mat leave and my vacation days for 2013 - 2014 are all pro-rated as well so I lose time this year and don't start earning vacay days again until August 7, 2014 when I start back at work.

@STRAWBERRYBEE: So glad to hear your pup is doing better without more serious interventions! Although that sucks that she won't be able to do agility any more. I guess it's for the best though?

@JAMIELEE: Yay for big ticket items! That takes a huge load off your shoulders I bet! Love seeing those things get knocked off the registry too.

My mom is pretty sweet. I mentioned briefly about how we got so much clothing at the shower and how I was making a list of all the things we needed to buy still that were a "necessity". She sent me an email (and then called me to tell me to check my email) with this picture:

THEN, my MIL called and told me she'd picked up our stroller and that I should come and test it out/get it! So Yesterday made me feel a whole lot better.

@Grace: @Mrs D: haha thanks ladies. When my mom called and I saw the pic I was totally like "moooooooooom, you're not supposed to buy stuff for your kids when they whine!". lol. She didn't agree. Best mom evar.

OH, and I LOVE the City Mini!!!!! I test drove that thing around the house (BOTH houses. MIL's & ours) and I love love love it. and it's SUPER easy to collapse and unfold.

As for the carseat adapter, I couldn't figure out how to get it to "snap" in place like it says it should in the manual, but we strapped it in and honestly, it was super sturdy. Not sure if anyone else is having issues there but we could NOT get it to snap in.

@.twist.: OMG!! Yay for awesome mothers!! That's so sweet of them. My shower is this weekend and our registry has been at a standstill. I'm nervous I'll be coming home with a car full of clothes!!

@JamieLee: Yay for big ticket items getting picked up!

@StrawberryBee: Hooray for awesome news on your puppy!

@.twist.: Have you tried googling it? When I was doing stroller research, I came across that complaint about the City Mini and I believe there is a trick to it (but didn't bookmark it, because I decided to go with the Britax).

@.twist.: yay for super sweet mommas. So nice of them!

@Grace: everything makes me cry these days as well. I saw a picture this morning of a police dog who was in kidney failure and they were taking him to be put down and all the police officers were lined up to salute him at the vet and I just lost it...then I was watching A Baby Story while eating breakfast and was crying at that too.

Ok - I need input! I am working on hostess gifts for my shower - it is hosted primarily by my two sisters but my Mom is helping out too. Here are my options:

Mom (only one option here - hope you guys like it): http://www.demdaco.com/Grandmother/26072,default,pd.html?start=73&cgid=1040016&brandId=WT

My sisters...I am struggling with. I can get them each a figurine (one a mother and son and one a sisters one) or I was thinking some vera bradley gear.

Vera Bradley jewelry case & flat iron cover:
    http://www.verabradley.com/product/Category/Accessories/Jewelry-Folio/1001806/defaultColorVariantId/177848/pc/638/c/0/sc/645/p/1001806.uts

    and

    http://www.verabradley.com/product/Category/Accessories/Straighten-Up-and-Curl/1001658/defaultColorVariantId/180159/pc/638/c/0/sc/645/p/1001658.uts

OR I could do these figurines:
    Sisters: http://www.demdaco.com/My-sister%2C-my-friend/27095,default,pd.html?start=8&cgid=1040016&brandId=WT

    Mother & Son: http://www.demdaco.com/Mother-and-Son/26102,default,pd.html?start=68&cgid=1040016&brandId=WT

I could also give them both the sisters figurine of course!

Thoughts? I love the figurine for my mom but am leaning a little more towards the VB stuff for my sisters since its more practical and useful?!

  11. JamieLee

    clementine / 930 posts

@Mrs D: I would do the figurine for mom and the VB stuff for sisters. If you do decide to do the figurines for your sisters, I would pick the sister one for both.

@JamieLee: Yay for big ticket buys!

    @Sapphiresun: @Alivoo01: thanks!!

@redsmarties: @.twist.: I need to remember to go in and thank my bosses tomorrow for being so understanding. My OB's office is around the corner from work (part of the reason I picked it), and I can usually do an appointment on my lunch break. I can't imagine having to take an entire vacation day each time, especially when we start having weekly appointments :(. *hugs* to you girls!

@.twist.: Thank you! and oh my goodness, your mom and MIL are SO sweet!! What a great pick me up. LOVE the pic of the cat in there lol.

We have our stroller and car seat upstairs from the shower, and I've been pestering my DH for the last few hours to bring the box downstairs so that I can put it together and ogle over it ;). I put together the Rock N Play last night...it's bigger than I thought!

@Mrs D: oh, how sweet!! I agree with everyone else, figurine for mom, VB for sisters. Do you have an outlet near you? Remember that there are sale colors on the website if you aren't being specific about color choice.

Anyone else getting a lot of baby activity lately? I swear she's been so kicky!

@.twist.: Yikes!! Yeah, they're being ridiculous now, but at least I accrue vacation time while I am off...so I'll have two weeks to take when I go back next August. Not that I can fit two weeks' vacation into the time between August-December. And WOW - your mom and MIL are awesome! I'm glad you're feeling better!

@StrawberryBee: I've been getting ton of roll-y floppy kicks and things lately. Lots of movement, but its way different than before! She's also flipped from being transverse to head down, so that helps with the mass amounts of movement haha.

My grandma just gave me a shower gift cause she can't come to the shower; the cutest little hooded towels, washcloths, and some chew toys (are they only chew toys for dogs lol?) Its exciting to get things for baby, especially when they're "needed" things!

    Hello ALL!!
I am hoping to join u guys for the last couple of months. I have been lurking since my bfp in Nov12. this is our first and BIG surprise baby. its a boy and my due date is 8/08. you all have been making me feel comfortable during my pregnancy by sharing your experiences with each other and lurkers like me. I am so far feeling ok. top heavy and hard to get up. he is moving like crazy and that is an amazing feeling. I am on a completely different time zones from I think all of u because I live in Hawaii. so forgive me if I am late in the day for responses.

  18. StrawberryBee

    nectarine / 2530 posts

@redsmarties: I wish I could tell what position she's in, but I'm horrible with that sort of thing. And yes, the flippy movement!

How awesome of your grandma! I love daily use gifts .

@BabyMats: hello and welcome!! Congrats on your boy :D. I wouldn't worry too much about time zones...with preggo insomnia you never know who will be up. My DH would be very jealous if he heard where you live. Hawaii made a big impression on him when we went two years ago; he keeps on talking about going back.

  19. Mrs D

@StrawberryBee: Is it bad that I have no idea what your post is about? What is a Foscam and what is a DDNS? I'm feeling lost confused and a little scared....

@BabyMats: Welcome! Sorry I dont think I can ever forgive you for living in Hawaii - I think I am forced to despise you out of jealousy! Which island are you on? I know what you mean about the movement and top heavy feeling. I have been doing some painting around our house and I have found that it is no longer easy to get up off the floor!!!

So...my glucose test was Wedsnesday and they said no news was good news. They said they'd call tomorrow (which would have been Thursday) and I got no call. So apprehensively doing a happy dance over here. Although, my test was late (they drew my blood at 5:15pm) so I guess I am just worried my blood results may be a little late too. After today I will officially celebrate!

@redsmarties: I get excited over the little gifts too! Everything is so little and cute!

@StrawberryBee: I feel lots of movement lately. Especially rolls or flips or whatever it is when baby pushes right up against the outside of my stomach. I love when I can feel its bum or head when I put my hand on it! Around 9pm baby seems to go stir crazy and I can see lots of movement which is funny.

@BabyMats: welcome to our group! It's never too late to join in!

@Mrs D: did you already make your decision on gifts? I love the VB stuff for your sisters!

@.twist.: wow your mom and MIL are awesome! Looks like you got some great stuff. Love your stroller!

I started washing all the baby clothes, towels, blankets etc. last night. Am I weird? I know it's early but I just feel like getting things ready. It's so fun to see baby things hanging up to dry and folding up adorable, blankets. Hard to believe there will be a baby in the house in 10 weeks! Crazy! Hope everyone is feeling well. I have another u/s tuesday and can't wait to see baby again!

@delight: I haven't bought anything yet but I am leaning heavily towards the VB stuff...just looking for a coupon now!

Totally not weird that you started washing stuff...I plan to start that ASAP after my shower when I know what I am keeping and what I am returning!

As soon as I wake up I am going to come back and read everything/catch up. There is no way I could ever keep up with you ladies!

I just had to ask before falling asleep, has anybody started leaking yet? I was getting ready for bed and noticed small amounts! Totally weird! I have never dealt with this before. Out of pure curiosity I tried hand expression and actually got a tiny bit out. I didn't think I would be dealing with this until later in the 3rd!

  23. Mrs D

    grapefruit / 4545 posts

@Mrs Hedgehog: um totally TMI but since you asked...the other day in the shower I noticed like a crust on one of my nipples...when I gently scraped it off some leaked out - so out of curiosity I squeezed a bit and then a little more came out. Totally weirded me out - then that night I had a nightmare that I leaked through a shirt in a meeting and decided it was a sign I should not mess with my nipples any more!

  24. delight

@Mrs Hedgehog: I haven't noticed any leakage, but like Mrs D, I have had some crust. I'm scared to knock it off tho!

    @BabyMats: Welcome!

@delight: Good on you. I was just thinking about doing this the other day when I had some room in my whites load (DH has sensitive skin, so all our laundry is already done in very mild detergent), but then decided maybe it was crazy so early.

@Mrs Hedgehog: Umm... yeah, I've been a little leaky since about week 18. TMI so feel to stop reading now... but I noticed a little bit of crusted over something, and I went to wipe it away, and I guess it was holding whatever in, because about a 1/8 tsp of fluid came leaking out behind it. Hasn't really happened again quite like that again, but I'll notice that if the girls get squished (like if I lean over my desk to reach something), there'll be traces inside my bra later.

@StrawberryBee: I’ve been feeling tons of movement and loving it!! Even if it hurts occasionally because he’s protruding one of his appendages into my belly and leaving it there.

@BabyMats: Welcome!!!! Hawaii is one of my favorite places to visit, so I’m totally jealous you live there!! Which island are you on, if you don’t mind sharing.

@Mrs D: Yay for “passing” your test!!!

@delight: Totally not weird!! I washed all the baby bedding items this week and put them onto the crib and folded the extras. If we had a dresser already, I would have washed all the baby clothes and put them up as well. Hopefully, the couch will be moved out soon so we can buy and build the dresser so that I can put clothes up! They’re currently sitting in Wal-Mart bags in the closet. Ha!

@Mrs Hedgehog: No leakage for me yet.

Anyone's belly getting big enough to start getting in the way of things yet? Lately, I've been accidentally bumping my belly up against things like my desk when I scoot my chair in or when I go to put things up. It hurts! I also think sitting in booths is slowly coming to an end. Hubby and I went to go out and eat last night and we sat in a booth. The booth was a little worn in so scooting in wasn't bad, but after dinner, scooting out was a mini-workout!

@Grace: I haven't tried googling it yet. I know someone in our August group, I think @tysonja: said her husband knew how? Maaaaybe!?

And thanks ladies! They really made me feel special and they are SO thoughtful and awesome.

@Mrs D: I totally love your gift ideas and agree with the other ladies! Ornament for Mom & VB for Sis! & LOL at your dream! haha. Glad to hear you got no news about your GD test! Go eat a big piece of cake ASAP to celebrate!

@redsmarties: seriously so jealous of your accrued vacay time! You lucky duck, you!

@BabyMats: HI! Welcome! So happy you joined in the chatting! I'll add you to the list asap! I have only been to Hawaii once (and not really anywhere else besides Canada) and I have to say, so far Hawaii is the most beautiful place I've ever been! What island are you on?

@delight: Not weird at all! I want to start that ASAP too but I NEEEEEEEED DH to CLEAR OUT THE OFFICE. I'm getting anxious. haha

RE: LEAKING: Is it weird that I'm kind of jealous ya'll have experienced this? I'm convinced I'm defective.

@Alivoo01: YES. I bump my belly on the fridge door ALL THE TIME. A sign I spend too much time in the fridge, maybe? I'm ignoring it.

I also had a lady barely move for me to get out of a seat on the train, I tried to scoot past her but my butt hit her and my belly hit the seat. I totally laughed out loud and told her she needed to actually MOVE.

If there are any more lurkers come and reveal yourselves so we can welcome you and add you to the list!!!

ALSO, I was going to make a PP chat thread.... you know... to be prepared...

  30. StrawberryBee

    nectarine / 2530 posts

@Mrs D: I totally hounded my dr's office on my glucose results ;). I was willing to accept 'no news is good news' for everything else but that!

    Foscam is this: http://www.amazon.com/Foscam-FI8910W-Network-Camera-Two-Way/dp/B006ZPWS4U/ref=br_it_dp_o_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=305E9SJUA15LA&coliid=IHXEI3WUGI6Y0

It's a networked camera with two way audio and night vision. You need to have good wifi in your house and some sort of monitor to view the video on; i.e. a computer, your phone, Ipad, etc.. Much cheaper than the Motorola baby video monitors, but Foscam requires a lot of setup and being able to force your router to allow the camera to send data over an unused port. There are apps you can download for your phone that allow you greater control over the camera.

Currently I can access the camera while at work! You can pick up audio, even send audio back through it (talk to people in the room). I can even control what it's looking at.

@delight: not at all, I already started washing things several weeks ago ;). I'm going to hold off on some of the clothing just in case we have the wrong size. But sheets, blankets were all fair play!

@Mrs Hedgehog: no, not yet! I should probably bring some nursing pads to work and an extra shirt, just in case... (and yes @.twist., I feel slightly defective too ;). We still have two months to go though! and labor itself should stimulate that, if nothing else).

@Alivoo01: Yes, I've misjudged spaces and bumped the bump into things. I always feel so guilty afterwards!

@.twist.: Go for it, both those threads sound like a great idea! I must admit I read through the March 2013 board last weekend to get an idea of what was in our future.

Here's a pic from our foscam...that's a toy in the crib currently ;). It's also still in night vision mode because it's so dark out (raining). If it were brighter in the room it'd be in color.

@.twist.: That's awesome that your mom and MIL are helping you out with some essentials. Are you psyched about the stroller or what?!!!! I don't have the carseat adaptor for mine yet, but I've read online that some people had trouble getting it to click into place. I'd have to google it some more to refresh my memory.

@BabyMats: Welcome! I'm also feeling top heavy and getting up from a sitting or lying position is starting to get a little more challenging! lol

@delight: I'm so looking forward to washing and hanging baby clothes! I'm going to wait until after our shower to do it though cause I just don't have enough right now to make it worth running a load. Do you already have lots of clothes?

  32. .twist.

    pineapple / 12802 posts

@skipper2010: I am TOTALLY psyched about it! I'm kind of wondering if she got the right adaptor? I know there are two different ones (not including the Britax one) and I think one of them is easier to use with the Chicco keyfit than the other. So I have no idea which one I have.

@StrawberryBee: We have a foscam and love it!! It's also kind of creepy/nice that it can be communicated two-way. It'll work out well when DS is older and is causing a ruckus in his room instead of napping, I can talk through my iPad and let him know I know! haha!

@.twist.: oh man we need to clear out the office too and paint it and get all our furniture. UGH. That is our July project! We have a cradle set up in our bedroom though!

@skipper2010: I ended up doing 3 loads! We have lots of newborn and 0-3 onesies and sleepers and about a bazillion washcloths and 12 blankets. I also washed the cradle bedding. We do not have many clothes for past 3 months but I'm hoping at our shower in September we will get some "girl" or "boy" clothes. All our smaller stuff is gender neutral.

@StrawberryBee: that Foscam pic is awesome. So can you look at it on your iPad or iPhone or how does it work!? I'll have to have DH check it out. It is a little spooky with that toy in your crib...haha!

@.twist.: thanks for setting up the new threads, that's awesome!! Our group could have some babies coming in the next month or so (hopefully not too soon!). I hope we are all able to keep up our chats after our LOs arrive.

@Alivoo01: I just read your post about two way communication, iPad and Foscam. This sounds brilliant.

@Alivoo01: I know what you mean about the belly hurting when it's bumped. I got accidently smacked in the belly the other day and you'd think I was sucker-punched!

@Alivoo01: for sure. I burned mine the other day. For some reason when our oven door is on, kind of the top flat part the door gets really hot. I was cooking something in the stove as well and leaned over to turn down the temperature dial and didn't realize I would touch the hot spot.
    @delight: beautiful bump photo!
@Alivoo01: The August 1st babies will be coming in 55 days! With the insulin dependent gd my OB is talking about a 37 week induction over here so we're preparing for a potential July 20th baby which is all sorts of scary soon! August 12 just sounds sooo much further away and reasonable to get everything done.

So tomorrow I Am going to Niagara Falls with my SILs and MIL for the night. We are going on a wine tour that was booked a long time ago. Do you think they will serve me wine? I am quite prepared to spit it in the buckets provided, but I want to taste it! I am worried they won't even pour me any. Really not a huge deal, I'll still have fun tagging along...but would like to "try" some wine!
