@Alivoo01: The layout of the hospital really did make sense once she walked us through it. I hate not knowing where I'm going! She also let us know that if we come after hours the ER entrance is the only one that's open. I can imagine me being in labor and us driving around the hospital trying to find out which door was open. I'm sure I would have fought DH going through the ER entrance.
So glad to hear your baby shower went so well! I really wish we had done the book thing as well. I love looking back at books I received from family members with an inscription written in them :3.
@Sapphiresun: I can't imagine how she thinks you're going to survive without any baby supplies if the shower is *after* the baby is born! I know there are a lot of things that are nice but not necessary, but seriously! It would be nice to be able to feed/clothe/diaper change. I mean, the shower at the end of the day is about helping you out, not about them.
@Modern Daisy: Sorry to hear about the one hour GD test, but I know a lot of doctors consider 140 to be 'okay', so I bet you'll be fine for the three hour. Good luck!!
@.twist.: Yeah, the last time I was in a hospital was probably when I had tubes put in my ears (2 years old?). I updated my mom on how to get to the hospital and warned her that we weren't going to call her until we were sure things were going to progress. I don't want a billion people sitting around the waiting room for hours and hours (days?) . And I don't want anyone in the delivery room but DH. Luckily she knows me and understands.
Oh, and the people who tell me that I won't even care about the doctors/being in a hospital because I'll be in too much excruciating pain? Yeah, not helpful. At All.
@lawbee11: holy crap, I'm glad things turned out okay! I had a GI thing happen last fall that was so extremely painful; I remember wondering if contractions could possibly be as bad as that. It also came in waves. I think it feels worse when you don't know what it is.
@chanzi: This reminds me...do you think it's okay/proper etiquette to hand out thank you cards to my coworkers? It seems silly to mail something like that to their houses when I see them nearly every day.
If you have Aetna I can tell you about the two online DMEs that they work with (according to my benefits department...take that with a grain of salt).
@skipper2010: glad to hear I'm not the only one with an OMG reaction! I feel like such a baby (no pun intended). I'm probably an excellent example of 'should have chosen a birthing center and didn't' (DH won't let me, and I'm too scared something will happen and he'll be right).

I am starting to freak out about where we are going to put this baby and her stuff! Like really really freak out! Here's our situation and I will take any and all input!
We have a 1700 sq ft 3bdrm house, C has his own room (he's the oldest and only boy) M shares her bedroom with her 2 step-sisters every other weekend. In that room we have a bunkbed and M's crib, and an armoire for M since her SS's have a full wardrobe in the closet. So that makes another problem, I have absolutely nowhere to put this baby's clothes!!!
Here's my solution, but my husband just looks at me in disgust! I think that his ex-wife should be packing the girls clothes for the weekend (they're 8 & almost 5), when C visited his Dad I always packed his clothes for him. That would at least free up the closet for our girls that LIVE WITH US EVERYDAY!!!! Sorry, I feel like it's a wasted space and maybe it's my pregnancy hormones but I don't think it's fair that they get two full closets (one at Mom's and one at Dad's) and M doesn't get her own nor will the baby.
For now the sleeping arrangement isn't crucial, we can use a bassinet for the first few months. Hopefully we can start looking for a 4 bedroom house and solve this, but I don't know when that will be! Sorry for rambling, I've had a lot of time to think/stew about it
nectarine / 2530 posts
@StbHisMrs: wow, they have a whole wardrobe at your house just for every other weekend? That definitely sounds like overkill! DSS and DSD always bring clothes with them (except for PJs, and usually they keep a bathing suit around in case we decide to go to a pool). I mean, it's four days a month, how often could they possibly use those clothes before they grow out of them?
I take it there are no other rooms you could turn into a bedroom? We have a 1300 sq ft twin, one master bedroom and two secondary on the second floor. We were able to convert the third floor (it has regular stairs and is finished, was being used as storage) into a bedroom for my DSS, and baby will be getting the smaller of the two secondary bedrooms so that she can be on the same floor as us.
pomegranate / 3329 posts
@StrawberryBee: Yes overkill indeed! She wants them to feel at home at our house too, so we were ask to buy clothes. Now that I'm out of room for my daughter and this baby I'm seriously re-thinking her "instructions"
We're renting right now so there isn't really anyway to convert any rooms, and our floorplan is really open. I can't wait to move!

@StbHisMrs: our boys bring their clothes every weekend, except their pjs and a few socks, undies and swim trunks.
nectarine / 2530 posts
@StbHisMrs: how do they feel about having clothes already there? If its just for the ex's convenience I don't see that it's necessary. If it will upset them/disrupt their routine too much I would probably just suck it up until we moved and had more space available.
I feel like I'm suddenly much bigger. Wonder if all this sleeping I've been doing was fueling a growth spurt?
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
@StbHisMrs: Oh man. A fully stocked closet does seem a bit excessive. I understand you want them to feel at home and comfortable, but maybe you can clear out some clothes and tell them to take it to their moms so that you can make a little room for your baby, or be able to put in a small dresser/organizer in the closet to accommodate the baby clothes? Is there space under their bunk beds that you can find a roller storage unit to fit under to put some of the girls clothes in?
@skipper2010: Here are some pictures from my baby shower. Sorry they're blurry! The theme was picnic so we had a variety of make your own food stations like hot dogs, burgers, veggies, deli sandwiches, and mini pizzas. For sweets, there was a mini candy buffet, an assortment of cookies and brownies from Tiff's Treats, and the cake!
cherry / 189 posts
@lawbee: so glad to hear you're ok!
@StbHisMrs: I agree! I don't think it's out of the question to ask them to pack clothes for the weekend...especially if it's only for the ex's convenience. The bigger picture is that you have children that are full time living there, and their space should be respected as well. Maybe there could be a few essentials like @.twist.: has (socks, swimmies, undies, etc) stored in containers under the bunk beds or something?
Guys, I may be over thinking things, but I've had this cramp in my right side for two days now...it's not going away, but it's not in my back or anything. I assume it's probably RLP, but I haven't had that since the beginning of the second tri. Should I be worried? No "discharge" or anything, and no back pain, but the cramp is more than a little uncomfortable. Baby is wiggly - as per us - but again, so afraid! I've been hearing stories of premie births and it's definitely fueling the imagination.

@Alivoo01: SO CUTE! Love the pennant banner especially! Looks like such a good time!
pineapple / 12802 posts
@greenebee: Hm. Is it kind of a sharp pain? Not so much a cramp? I have had a sharp pain on and off for a few weeks now. I brought it up with my OB and she said that it's because there is a lot of pressure on my pelvic floor. She said it's nothing to worry about as long as there's not bleeding or patterned cramping. My little guy is sitting SUPER low and I carry small so she said that I will probably feel a lot more pain down there.
@Alivoo01: That is SO CUTE. Makes me want to see if I can find some pics to share too.... I don't think I have any of the set up thought.
@StrawberryBee: I feel quite a bit bigger too.
Anyone dealing with swelling? I know you are @redsmarties: . How's it going? I haven't been able to wear my wedding rings for days and I finally got them on easily this morning, only to notice now that I can barely move them. This makes me super freaking sad!
cherry / 189 posts
@.twist.: Yes, it's like a sharp pain...hmmm...but when I'm not moving much its a dull sort of uncomfortableness. Maybe that's true...just the stretching and getting bigger. As for rings, I've had to move my right-hand ring (my birthstone) down a finger, but wedding rings are still ok for now! I'm sorry it's making you sad, but glad you got them on today!
pineapple / 12802 posts
@greenebee: When I'm sitting it's not as noticeable, and then when I get up SHARP PAIN!!!!

@.twist.: Yes! I actually left work early yesterday just to be super safe and put my feet up. Thanks for the comforting words!
pineapple / 12802 posts
@greenebee:
definitely keep an eye on it but it sounds a lot like what I'm dealing with too. I also only notice mine on my left side. So maybe it just depends on where baby is putting the most pressure?
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
@.twist.: My feet are starting to swell a lil because my shoes get tighter throughout the day and my flip flops leave indentations on my feet. I'm sure the swelling will only get worse for me since we're quickly approaching 100+ degree weather (we actually hit 103 yesteryday - yikes!). Fortunately, my rings still fit okay; and like you I will be super duper sad when I have to leave them off until after delivery.
pineapple / 12802 posts
@Alivoo01: Do you have a faker ring to wear? I bought a cheapie before we got married when my engagement ring needed to get resized. It was like 15 bucks and I didn't bother to make sure it fit and it was too big. It fits me almost perfect now and I wear it when I can't wear my rings. Just a plain simple band, but it does the trick. Definitely not as pretty as my wedding set though.

@chanzi: Your crafts sounds exciting. It'll be fun to see your nursery all put together!
@MrsD: I love how your crib art came together! Very nice.
@Sapphiresun: Ok - I just wrote out a big tirade about how your mom is being unreasonable about your shower. But it occured to me that I'm very grumpy right now and I don't want to stress you out more. So, I deleted it. If you want some bat-s*#$ crazy commiseration, lemme know.
But, I really think you have to give her a date after which you will be available for a shower. It's just not practical for you to be going to a party so soon after Baby comes and not fair for your aunt to be hosting on no notice (although, I suppose that's your aunts business...) Oh, and my shower isn't until after baby comes and there's tons of stuff that I can do without for the first month. People will figure out things to buy.
@Modern Daisy: My baby punches the mattress too! I was thinking I was squishing him for a while... Good luck with the doors and with the 3-hour test
@lawbee11: I've totally had gas pains like that. They are awful!
@StbHisMrs: Am I understanding that you have FIVE children (including the stepkids)? In 1700 sq ft? Wow - I'm a little in awe right now. I like the idea of the girls having some stuff at your place (I remember bringing clothes home for the weekend when I was in university and it was a PITA). Also, I imagine they feel like it's home too with clothes already there, but maybe there is too much stuff? I mean, my sister and I shared one dresser until we were at least 10 and that held ALL our clothes. Also, are there any seasonal clothes that can be packed up and stored somewhere else?
@Alivoo01: Oh my gosh, that cake is gorgeous!!
AFM, girls, I feel grumpy and blah and tired of pregnancy. The thing is, it's not that bad. So many women have much more aches and pains than me, and don't complain. I don't have heartburn or swelling or nausea, or inability to walk. So now on top of it, I feel bad too. Gaaaaaaahhhhhhh, I need to sleep. I've had two bad nights in a row and I'm tired.
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
@.twist.: I don't have a fake one to wear, but have thought about it. I feel naked without my rings.
@Grace: I feel ya on being tired! I haven't been sleeping well either, and my legs get tired easily during the day so my calves have been tightening up throughout the night wanting to cramp up, but thankfully haven't.
cherry / 189 posts
Update: Called my doctor, because the sharp pains were un-ignorable. They asked me to come in (even though there was no discharge, bleeding or lower back pain). Hooked me up to a doppler machine to listen to the baby's heartbeat/monitor for any contractions. Nothing. Everything looks good! They even did tests to see if my appendix was acting up (right-side pain, you never know). They told me they were unsure of the reason for the pains...but I feel relieved that we're looking good!

@Alivoo01: Wow, your shower looks so beautiful!!
@.twist.: That's fine about the appts - I thought I was slacking on updating, but honestly they're so frequent now it's kind of pointless to list them all. And yes I am also swelling. I took off my brand new e-ring/wedding band set for the last time this weekend, I seriously was worried it was stuck. I got a quote to make my original wedding band larger, but I'm trying to decide if I should buy a cheapie Berricle instead or just go ringless.
Oh man, my 3 hour test was horrible. I really hate getting my blood taken and this nurse was the worst at it I've ever experienced. She jabbed in really far each time, rooting around for a while painfully and even missed the vein completely once and had to start over! I've never had that happen before. And that drink was nasty! I have a stomach of steel and haven't thrown up or even really felt nauseous in over 10 years but it took everything I had not to throw up that liquid. Even three hours after drinking it I still felt really sick. After such a horrible experience, I bought a sandwich then took a cab back to work so I could sit, eat and recooperate at my desk. Even though it was 12:30 and clearly a huge office faux-pas to go roaming around people's cubes, this really awkward claims guy who was looking for one of my coworkers who is out this week decided to barge into my cube even though I clearly looked a mess with bandaids and gauze all up my arms and a huge sandwich on my desk that I was obviously in the middle of eating. He was just looking to socialize and stood there staring at me trying to think of one of my accounts to talk about and I actually had to ask him to leave. I hate being rude or awkward to coworkers, but I've never felt so horrible at work before and I thought it was a little rude of him to walk around like that during lunchtime interrupting people while they were eating for non-urgent work conversations. He did end up coming by a couple of hours later to ask his question (that he finally remembered) and it was so stupid and non-urgent I was like "Really?! You couldn't have emailed me??" Ugh..
I'm just really glad that I suffered through the test today instead of waiting until tomorrow which is my 3 year wedding anniversary. My DH's favorite thing in the world is going out to eat and I hate it when I feel like crap and can't enjoy the experience.

@Mrs D: Thanks, but we will definitley not be purchasing from HD. I don't like how their prices doubled once they found out the doors were for an apartment in NYC (same exact doors and dimensions). I think we'll try to go through a wholesaler or at least price out other home improvement stores first then just find a local super/handyman who knows how to install them. They are usually the best for these jobs because they do them all the time and will do it on the cheap.
pomegranate / 3329 posts
@.Twist.: Pretty sure that's what we'll be doing once they outgrow what they have now, which won't be long
Just need their Dad on board...
@greenebee: & @Alivoo01: I have a ton of their clothes from past years in tubs under their bunkbed that I need to go through and purge, I bet if I got rid of those and bought some bins at Ikea I could easily store the necessities there. I want them to feel at home too, but I want it to be fair for our children together too. I feel like our two youngest are getting pushed out of their room (even though the baby isn't even here yet!) and I think he feels the opposite. If only he could see my point of them having all of their own things and room at their mother's house.
@StrawberryBee: Yes it's more for her convenience, she'd rather not pack anything.
@Grace: Yes every other weekend we have four kids in the house, once baby is here we'll have five. It's CRAZY! I keep telling him we need at least 2700 sq ft and five bedrooms to be comfortable!! They share a dresser in the closet, but it's stuffed too, then all the dresses, and tops are hung up in the closet.
I think I'm going to stop stressing about it and just pack it up as they outgrow it and list it all on Ebay. As they get older they get pickier and it's hard to get them to wear things that I buy for them (my taste in clothing is completely different from theirs and their Mom's) so it's just going to be one less headache to have her pack their clothes. Sorry for rambling on and on. Now on to my next gripe

@Alivoo01: Your shower looks amazing! That cake is awesome - how cute!
@.twist.: Oh, the swelling. So far, I haven't had to take my rings off, but by the end of the day, my feet are bulging over the tops of my shoes. My ankles are swollen enough that I can leave fingerprints in them (gross!)
@Grace: My sleep has been crap the last two nights too. I feel like I'm DRAGGING my butt at work, and the girls there can definitely tell that I'm pretty exhausted. They just leave me alone for the first 20 minutes of my morning, haha.
I'm getting a lot more uncomfortable lately. Cramping/stretching pains, ridiculous pressure in my...well, you know...., and the sciatica/SI joint pain won't let up. Seriously thinking about switching my last day at work to a week earlier, but I'm not sure yet. I'm in disbelief that there are only EIGHT WEEKS until my due date! Seven until the beginning of August!
cantaloupe / 6730 posts
@redsmarties: Oh, I meant to say what physio said about that pain. It's because your hip flexor muscle is too tight. So what you do is bascially a standing quad stretch, where you grab your ankle from behind and while you are doing that, push your pelvis forwards. That should stretch the hip flexor and it feels sooooooo much better.

@Alivoo01: looks like an awesome shower! The cake is so cute!
@.twist.: no swelling for me yet that is too noticeable, but the weather isn't too hot yet. I'm sure my rings will start getting tight soon!
@Modern Daisy: sorry your 3 hour test was so crappy. I felt sick after the one hour one. Hope you have a nice anniversary!
I had an u/s and a OB appointment today. It was fun to see baby who is already head down. Baby was just sucking its thumb the whole time. Baby is measuring great, right to the day and is 3 pounds 7 ounces. My fundal height is 4 cm too large though so I think I have to have another u/s. Is anyone else measuring big? I don't even think I look that huge. Oh well, I'm sure it's nothing to worry about.

@delight: Thank you! I was glad too. I know I may have been a little bit of a worry wart to call, but I was nervous! I think I measure about 1 cm larger. I did feel bigger than I thought so I had asked them to check the due date -- that's how I found out I was due a week earlier! So exciting that baby is head down and so wonderful to get the weight and measurements! I'm sure you're fine!

@greenebee: Glad you got checked out and everything is fine. Better safe than sorry!
@delight: That's great that you got to see baby again! What have the doctors said about you measuring 4 cm ahead? Is there any way your due date could be off and you're actually further along than you think? Has there ever been any question of that?

@Modern Daisy: Boo on the pain from the 3 hour test, but at least it's done and over with now. Yay!!
@delight: I'm measuring 1cm smaller than I am week wise, but you measuring big could just mean you have a lot of amniotic fluid or that LO is further along! At least you get another u/s which means another sneak peek at the baby! I'm jealous!
pomelo / 5326 posts
@greenebee: @Alivoo01: well the funny thing is that the baby measured 30+6 which is exactly right to the day. So it's just my belly, the due date is fine. The doctor just said my uterus is really hard which could be why, but amniotic fluid was normal. I'd totally be fine with delivering a couple weeks early though!
My sister in law went into labour over night! Just waiting for my brother to call and let me know if I have a niece or nephew! Then I get to go see the baby on Saturday. I'm so excited that the little cousins are only going to be a couple months apart!

Getting to the point where I can't wait anymore!!!
Ooh! Who's been having preggo dreams? I used to have them in the first tri, but they let up until a few days ago. The first one was that I hiccuped and the baby jumped into my chest cavity...you could see his foot imprint near my throat! (Weird!!!) and last night I nightmare-d (made it into a verb!) that I hadn't BF soon enough after the birth and therefore could not do it!
Goodness me! Weird dreams.

@greenebee: *raises hands and waves feverishly* OMG! Yes, on the dreams!! One of my dreams two nights ago was about breastfeeding. I was in a breastfeeding class and the instructor handed us manual pumps and told us to pump. Surprisingly, I started pumping out milk/colostrum!! Baby is still in utero too! I think this may have been a result of the who's leaking question on the board though. haha!

@greenebee: Glad you called in and got checked out! Sometimes having that reassurance is enough to make everything better! Glad the little one is doing ok!
@Modern Daisy: One of my biggest pet peeves in the office is when people come to me during my ONLY break of the day (lunch) and bug me about work stuff. GO.AWAY. lol
@StbHisMrs: lol, can you tell him all the step mom's on HB say that he needs to get on board?
@redsmarties: Oh you poor thing. I feel like we're opposites! My fingers are so swollen but I haven't really noticed anything in my feet/ankles!
@delight: So exciting that you got to see the baby again! I'm actually measuring behind. At my 31 week appointment I was measuring 29 inches. My OB didn't say anything so I assume she wasn't concerned. SO excited to hear about your SIL! That is super awesome that you'll have close cousins. so fun! Let us know how she does!

@Alivoo01: Lovely shower, thank you for sharing!
@.twist.: still wearing my rings. I sometimes wonder if my feet are swelling a little bit, but it hasn't been super noticeable (and my feet tend to hurt by the end of the day anyway).
@StbHisMrs: well then, I say tough noogies to the ex and she needs to start packing for the kids ;). I think your plan sounds like a good one. Hopefully your DH will come around!
@delight: I hesitate to mention this and jinx it, but every single time I go I measure right on target. The RN today spent a lot of time trying to get a clear heartbeat on the doppler. About ten minutes into it she asked me if I had a front placenta. Whoops ;). Apparently that's what was giving her the swishy sound she kept on hearing. Anyway, lots more handling than normal which the girlie didn't appreciate; she kicked me for a good while after. Between that and my stomach tensing up (it's actually painful for me to have people touch my stomach; my muscles clench involuntarily) I was sore for a good bit after. 32+5 today.
Congrats on your new nephew!!

I think we need a survey!
1. Have you started the nursery?
2. Who will be in the delivery room with you?
3. What is your biggest fear about delivery?
4. What is your biggest fear postpartum?
5. Besides baby, what are you looking forward to postpartum?
6. What's one think you've learned from being pregnant?
7. Belly button: Innie or outie?
pomelo / 5326 posts
Fun!
1. Have you started the nursery? Nope. Still just a spare room that's holding piles of crap all over the floor. As mentioned earlier this is our July project. We have the cradle set up in bedroom.
2. Who will be in the delivery room with you? Just my DH and hospital staff! My mom and MIL are welcome to be there a little bit during labour but just DH for delivery.
3. What is your biggest fear about delivery? That something will be wrong with baby and they will be taken away from me.
4. What is your biggest fear postpartum? That I will become one of those moms that never wants to leave her LO. I still want to go out for dinners with friends!
5. Besides baby, what are you looking forward to postpartum? Oh this is terrible, but having time off work!
6. What's one think you've learned from being pregnant? That I am not as big as a complainer as I thought I would be.
7. Belly button: Innie or outie? Innie but it is starting to look a little different!
