@redsmarties: I've heard rave reviews about the rock n' play too. I ignored them all though because I thought a swing would be better and I didn't want too many baby holders taking up all our space. That was definitely not a smart move at all, I should have at LEAST considered the fact that this doesn't fold or store easily.

@JamieLee: I know, it is absolutely massive! I should have realized it, but I literally put it on my registry after only looking at it for a minute then it was purchased for us that same day. So I kind of forgot about it and moved on. I am definitely going to leave a review expressing how large it actually is so other people like me don't make this same mistake!

@Mrs D: That looks like a great meal plan. I'm jealous of your freezer space! I think when my current batch of frozen cookie dough is gone I won't make more so I can save that space for dinner food. Guests will have to eat cheese and crackers!

@JennyG: What a cutie! Thank goodness there's a place for you to stay in the hospital while he is there.

@Grade: I can sleep ok on either side but I have to get up all the time to pee, and when I wake up around 5 or 5:30 I can't get back to sleep.

@Modern Daisy: We just have the Bjorn bouncer too, though our bassinet does rock a little. I'm hoping we can borrow a (small) swing from somebody if we need one since we'd like to avoid another piece of baby gear.

I had my first childbirth class last week and it was pretty useless since it covered stuff we already knew--stages of labor, birth video, everyone get a tdap vaccination, etc. This week's classes are on pain management and breastfeeding (taught by a doula and lactation consultant) so I'm more excited about those. I think next week's class covers C-sections and newborn care. We're skipping the hospital tour since we already did one.

This weekend I finally go around to one of my constellation embroidery project for the nursery. I wanted something really light to hang on the wall above the crib.

Royal baby boy born today. I wonder if any hardcore fans are storming the hospital gates for elective c-sections?

@Sapphiresun: The midwives were all excited (I was in the waiting room when it was announced). I think there are a few of our July bees who are in labour right now (@Cherrybee comes to mind).

Just got home from my 38 wk appointment, and apparently I could "be one of those first time moms who delivers early". Baby is head down, with her head fixed in my pelvis - totally ready to go. Uhhh...just wait until my doula gets back from vacation, please!

Just back from my 34 week appointment (if you go by my due date I am 35 weeks) - quick update before DH and I head to dinner. All tests were good. She did a cervical check on me and while my cervix is totally closed it is very thin and she can feel that Baby Kate's head is "right there" in my pelvis. This explains some of the new symptoms I have been feeling (extremely frequent urination, some pain when I stand up and when I pee, looser bm's with painful cramping). Dr said keep the fluids up and pay attention to any consistent contractions. No cottage trip for me though - she was just not comfortable with me being that far away.

I have to go back at 35 instead of waiting for my 36 week check up. She ran a Fetal fibronectin test...she said if it comes back positive it wont really change much just will let us know that I'm likely to deliver in the next 2 weeks.

  6. Mrs. Oatmeal

    blogger / honeydew / 7081 posts

@Mrs D: Ooh, what's a fetal fibronectin test? Sounds interesting. My midwife didn't do an internal check, but she could tell that baby's head was locked into place. Your symptoms sound really similar to mine - sounds like babies might be here sooner rather than later.

@Modern Daisy: funny, must have been a snugabunny swing weekend! I set ours up yesterday and you're right, it's huge. We 'kind of' have the space for it, so I'm keeping it (in the living room). Had to call FP to ask for a new mirror dome though, since they one in the box is super fuzzy and doesn't reflect anything. I think the plastic bag it was in somehow marred the finish. Thank goodness I didn't attach it, because apparently you can't detach once it's popped into place.

@redsmarties: how exciting! I'm really curious to know if she's moved down at my next appointment. There is no comfortable position in bed any more (I debated sleeping in the glider last night), and every time I stand up I have to pee right away. I'm finally waddling. I wake up every two hours during the night to pee.

@chanzi: those embroidery hoops are so pretty!!

I'm still working, trying to get a project out the door (can we say last minute?) before she comes.

Oh, and is anyone tired of people asking them "are you ready?" I have no idea how to answer that ;). Ready in terms of having everything in order? Ready mentally? Because I'm so not ready mentally to give birth and have a baby!

DH was too funny the other day. I told him I find it hard to believe there's a baby in there, and he said, "Well, I hope there's a baby! I'm kinda expecting one!"

  8. JessKas

    pear / 1693 posts

@StrawberryBee: I don't like it when people ask me if I'm ready. I get "Are you ready for your life to change completely?" Ummm what do I say to that??

I've been going on long walks/hikes almost everyday. I would really like this baby to come on time (or even 39 weeks...I'd take that!). I have to go back to school about two weeks after my due date (although I AM going to see if I can skip the first two weeks of class) and I'm kinda freaking out. It's either that or fall behind a year.

I haven't had any new symptoms or pressure or anything. A lot of you sound like you have a lot going on! So exciting!

  9. Sapphiresun

    nectarine / 2220 posts

@StrawberryBee: Yep, that does seem like the go to question now. I usually just laugh and say that that's probably irrelevant at this point. Baby's coming, ready or not!

  10. StrawberryBee

    nectarine / 2530 posts

@JessKas: "you betcha!" It's such a no win question.

@Sapphiresun: I usually say that we have all the laundry/stuff done and set up, but being ready mentally is a whole other kettle of fish. I don't think I'll ever be ready to give birth.

  11. Mrs D

    grapefruit / 4545 posts

@redsmarties: I think my doc checked me bc I had told her I was planning to g away for te weekend so she wanted a clear picture of what is what. When she said she could feel te head I was wigged out! The fibronectin test looks for a fluid or something that comes as birth is impending. A negative result indicates that labor is unlikely in the upcoming 10 days - a positive doesn't really mean anything for sure.

  12. Sapphiresun

    nectarine / 2220 posts

@StrawberryBee: It's totally no win. I find that if you say yes people laugh in your face and say you just THINK you're ready, and if you say no... you're obviously going to be a terrible parent.

  13. Mrs D

    grapefruit / 4545 posts

@Modern Daisy: We have the same swing and it is quite large - its going in our living room...though we have a 2000 sq ft house so space isn't as much of an issue. I should also say that the Rock N Play is my favorite item so far (well next to my diaper bag!), I have heard phenomenal reviews from many real life moms and I just LOVE that it folds up!!! We didn't get a pack n play - so we plan to cart this around when we need to take a place with us for LO to sleep.

I tried to go back through all the pages and comment to everyone about the freezer space...I guess maybe it was a blessing in disguise but we lost power earlier this summer and lost everything in the freezer - so I was/am lucky to be starting with a clean slate!!! As for DH - I am seriously thinking of putting a DO NOT TOUCH stick on the meals! But actually I think if I just make it and dont draw attention to it he may not notice...he golfs each weekend morning so I have 3-4 hours each day to be stealth and hide what I am doing from him!

@chanzi: those are beautiful. Will you share a pic of your whole. Nursery?

Yesterday we Put together our Ikea dresser and got the clothes put away. I really need more clothes and I'm starting to panic. I have about 4 things in size NB. Someone is gonna have to make a clothing run if I have a small babe! We get our crib this weekend and then the nursery will finally be done, except for a little decorating.

My appointment only ended up lasting 2.5 hours yesterday with my Doc being called away to a C Section. She was really in a rush obviously, so I didn't have another check. She's confident all is fine, and I am not spotting quite as much. We had our last prenatal class yesterday and two couples were missing. One husband showed up at the end with donuts for everyone as they were on their way home from the hospital with their baby! So fun! Too bad they missed the last class.....now they'll never know how to diaper, dress and swaddle a stiff, plastic doll

    Hope everyone is well!

@StrawberryBee: Oh my goodness, my DH HATES when people ask if he's ready, he was actually just complaining about it last night! I totally feel for him, there is no adequate response. Of course we aren't ready at all, how could you possibly be? Even if you had unlimited $ and teams of nanny's, cooks, maids, etc. - having a baby is still going to change your life to an extent that no one could possibly prepare for. I'm so used to the question though, I just give a very canned response like "Getting there!" or "Of course not!" depending on my mood and who is asking. I know people are just trying to make conversation so as long as I'm not in one of my hormone filled rage moods I don't mind being asked.

@Mrs D: I'm actually sad the swing is going back because it's really a nice swing. And it got almost 1,000 rave reviews on Amazon so I know it's a great piece of equipment. But honestly, to live with that in our house for 9 months just won't be worth it, it's just too large and pushes me over my limit for baby gear in the living room. We do have a pretty decent sized living room for a tiny apartment, but to have something that large permanatently out is just going to irk me.

  16. Grace

    cantaloupe / 6730 posts

@Modern Daisy: I'm glad Amazon will take the swing back. I was looking at the dimensions and my swing is nearly as big (Graco swing and bouncer combo). But I think I don't mind because it's the only baby thing in the living room. We have no playpen yet and we're not going for a rock and play. Baby better like that swing!!

@chanzi: I LOVE those constellations! My eyes are all big with envy.

@Mrs D: No cottage! Nuts! Hopefully you can find ways to chillax at home.

@StrawberryBee: Ha! When people have been asking if I'm ready, I ask what they mean (mentally or physically). They've all meant physically, as in do we have the gear, are bags packed, car seat in car etc. They've all seemed to know that you can't be mentally ready.

@delight: I have hardly any NB stuff either. I'm not worried though, because I think my sisters and mom would die of happiness if I sent them on a NB clothes run!

So as for the sleep, what you guys are saying is that there's nothing to do but suck it up? Sigh - that's what google said too. Luckily, I did sleep last night - I was afraid that i wouldn't sleep for the next month (and then more 'cause the baby won't sleep either).

  17. delight

    pomelo / 5326 posts

@Grace: I slept well too for the first time in ages. Only had to pee twice and usually it's closer to 5/6 times. But yes, think we just have to suck it up.
I'm sure people will love to go shopping for me too, I just like to be super organized and because I don't have a lot of clothes I'm a bit stressed. I keep telling myself it'll be hot anyway and I can just keep baby in a diaper and blanket. That's allowed right? Am I a bad mom already?

@Mrs D: What a bummer about the cottage!! Your doc is a hard ass you should do something super fun and relaxing this weekend at home, like go to the spa!

  18. Modern Daisy

    grapefruit / 4187 posts

@Grace: I'm sure baby will love the swing! I think the biggest 'fail' for me is that we can't even move it out of the living room. I wouldn't midn it so much if we could put it away when LO isn't using it.

As far as sleep, oh man am I ever running to the bathroom every hour! Especially when I first fall asleep. I do not know where all the pee comes from, I don't drink a lot before bed and I'll literally fall asleep at 10, wake up at 11:30 to pee, not drink a sip of water then at 1am my bladder is full again somehow! Like not just baby pressing on a tiny amount of liquid - I pee out a regular full bladder amount! Sorry for TMI.

  19. delight

    pomelo / 5326 posts

@Modern Daisy: baby probably is just squishing your bladder and you're not getting it all out the first time. I'm finding it really difficult to pee these days. After I've gone, it still feels full.

I wouldn't be able to keep the swing either if it took up too much room. I'm already starting to panic at the thought of toys all over my house!

  20. Mrs. Oatmeal

    blogger / honeydew / 7081 posts

@Modern Daisy: That's totally me too. I actually asked my midwife about it (I'm not drinking at night, but peeing SO much). Are your feet/hands swollen? She told me that because I'm so swollen, the fluid redistributes while I'm sleeping, and often leads to me having to pee more. So, if I elevate my feet lots before bed, I'll pee more BEFORE going to sleep, but not as much at night. Does that make sense?

Going for high tea at a cute little shop with my mom today (after my GBS swab and bloodwork), and then having a "surprise" shower from DH's work tonight. Going to be a busy day!

  21. Modern Daisy

    grapefruit / 4187 posts

@delight: Oh trust me, I've mastered 'second pee' and it isn't that, lol! And isn't it funny how the toys adn gear seem to be reproducing on their own?? We do our best to keep things in baskets and tucked away in drawers and closets, but every weekend I feel like there is all this new stuff somehow hanging around!

@redsmarties: Yes, my hands are totally swollen and actually I wake up in pain from it! I have to take tylenol in the middle of the night because of the hand pain. I'm just baffled because I don't drink any fluids and I literally have a full bladder every few hours, not just an annoying trickle.

  22. Grace

    cantaloupe / 6730 posts

@delight: Of course it's allowed! At my prenatal class, the instructor said we're supposed to do 12 hours of skin-to-skin every day. So just use that as your excuse.

@redsmarties: That's really fascinating what your midwife said. I never would have thought of that, but it totally makes sense!

  23. Mrs D

    grapefruit / 4545 posts

@Modern Daisy: I totally respond with "are you ever ready for a change like that" and a big smile. And I leave it at that!

@delight: I have just white onsies (5 SS and 3 LS), 4 sleep and play pj's and 4 sleep sacks. Maybe look into getting a few of those - since they are just like open dresses at the bottom its more difficult to grow out of!

@Grace: @delight: Its really ok about the cottage - I'd rather not push it and be sorry! I'll spend plenty of time chillaxing on my deck instead! May even go to my other lake house (only 1.5 hours away) instead for the day for some lake action!

  24. Sapphiresun

    nectarine / 2220 posts

@delight: Oh wow, did I miss something that you had a 2.5 hour appt?

@Grace: Yeah, unfortunately I think "suck it up" is the only option. I was seriously waking up hourly the night before last. Last night was so much better, and I took today off because I have a couple dr's appts (regular and NST) and it's my husband's birthday so I got to sleep in until 9am which was heavenly, even with the on and off.

@delight: That's my plan as well. It's 26 degrees in our house. So between it being hot and not knowing gender for sure I only have like 2 newborn outfits and I think maybe 6 0-3 month. But I have a few of those kimono shirts which is what I'm assuming will be most comfortable since I'm baking hot and would ideally be naked all the time... one more layer for baby haha.

@redsmarties: That makes sense that it's all the liquid coming from EVERYWHERE.

Two more days of work for me. Considering how good I feel today being able to sleep in if I wanted to I'm really looking forward to it. As I mentioned above, it's my husband's birthday, so besides coming with me to dr's appointments, I think we're going to out for a nice dinner date. And he's requested that I do my best not to have a baby today, so I'll try to oblige

I am sure she is just busy spending time with her little guy (hopefully she won't mind that I'm giving y'all an update on her behalf!).

@JennyG: I hope you are able to take Jackson home today and that you're both doing well...he's such a cutie!!

@StbHisMrs: How's everything going?? Are you still contracting? Hope all is well!!

@Mrs D: DH and I are both attorneys...maybe if we reveal that we'll be treated like superstars!

@Grace: I'm still sleeping decently. I have a Snoogle and find it most comfortable to sleep on my left side while hugging the Snoogle/with it between my legs. I have been getting up to pee about 3-4 times/night, though

@greenebee: Sorry you're still in so much pain Let us know what they say at your appointment today!

@Modern Daisy: I was shocked at how big the swing was when DH assembled it! Luckily we have plenty of space for it, but it really is massive.

@chanzi: LOVE your embroidery project...you did a great job!!

Not much going on with me. Still hella swollen, but that's to be expected. I'll be full-term on Friday--I can't wait! With all this swelling I won't be upset if she decides to come a week or two early. I have been feeling a lot of pressure down there and I will randomly get these shooting pains down there, so I am hoping that means that I'm making progress...hopefully my OB will do a cervical check on Friday at my 37w appointment!

@Grace: I've found my sleep is way better lately. For comfort, I have a pillow under my knees, I roll onto my stomach and put one under my back, then I roll onto my back and prop one under my stomach. I use a small decoration pillow to prop my arm up by my belly more to help with the hand pain. About 2 weeks ago I was getting up like no less than 6 times to pee. However, this last week or so it's maybe 2 times. I think the babe shifted a little and there's some relief on my bladder now.

@lawbee11: Thanks for passing that along about Alivoo! My overactive pregnant imagination making up all kinds of wild things.

@MrsB2012: I tried something like that the other night and it was a disaster. What's weird, is last night I used next to no pillows and slept wonderfully. My body is a mystery.

@Grace: Ya - sounds SO snobbish. My parents happened to invest at the right time and got steals on both. One we have had for 30 years and the other 15. @Mrs D: What an amazing meal plan you have, I'm jealous of all your freezer space. We have 2 fridge/freezers and a chest freezer and would absolutely not have room for all of that! I even cleaned one of them out on Sunday. The most food prep I've done is freezing blueberries and blackberries

    @Delight: Mrs D: I'll be 37 weeks on Thursday, when I was in l&d I was 36w5d.

@Grace: The only thing that I've found to help me is sleeping on my left side with a firm pillow between my legs. I keep getting this "hitch" in my right hip that makes it really difficult to get up My problem while sleeping is leg cramps, they hurt so bad! I can't drink enough coconut water or eat enough bananas!

@Greenebee: What did you find out from the Dr.? I hope you haven't had more!

@Skipper2010: I'm not going back until I can't stand the contractions anymore! Being sent home is no fun But I'm happy to let her stay in a little longer too.

@Redsmarties: I'm interested in hearing your Dr.'s opinion on RRL tea, I have some on the counter and I keep meaning to make a cup. I drank it last time, but I'm not sure if I was drinking it enough.

@Chanzi: I love those! I use to do embroidery and I found it so relaxing! Last night I found some of my old projects from grade school, and I got a kick out of seeing them!

I think I have everything washed, hung, and put away. We could use a couple more nb sleepers, I think we have 6 or nb sleeveless onesies, and a couple cute nb outfits. That will get us through the first week, then we'll have to make a clothing run once we see how big she is. The nurse was guessing that she won't be quite as big as M (7lbs 12oz).

I've sort of slowed down on the contractions, they're still there but sporadic. I went back through my pregnancy updates on WB with Maddy and at 36 weeks I was in PTL as well, but only dilated to a 1, I didn't write down if I was thinning or not. I remember at 28 weeks I was dilated farther and whatever they did to stop my labor closed me back up.

I've started to worry that my body doesn't know how to labor on it's own. With my first, I was admitted at 35 weeks, dilated to 4, but labored for 5 days until MY & insurance gave the out of state dr permission to break my water. Then it went quickly. We were visiting our families in Oregon, living in Washington and my ex husband was in the Navy so we were dealing with military insurance and doctors

With Maddy it was all different, kidney stones, ptl, bedrest, yada yada, then 1 day late and induced. The pitocin made my contractions dull, finally the dr broke my water and like the first time witin seconds the major contractions began. So my worry is I won't get past 4 without my water being broke, so I'll go past my due date again. Maybe I should ask about that tomorrow, I'm probably just being worrisome.

@StbHisMrs: talked to the midwife about RRL tea and EPO. For the tea, she said that two good-sized mugs every day should be enough; that it acts as a uterine 'toner' and does NOT start/bring on labour. In her opinion, anything that might help natural labour be more effective was a good thing.

Or the already-parents who say, "just you wait!"

@Mrs D: I plan to take the RnP with us when we visit the inlaws since it's so nicely portable :). We have a PnP as well, but I can't imagine carting that around all the time; it's freaking heavy!

I thought I'd share a few pics of my nursery as its as done as its going to get before babe comes. It's not as pink as it looks! It's a pretty soft pink that looks really bright in pictures apparently. I had a friend do the paintings above the crib, were going to make the time on Big Bens face the time she's born at after. My grandma gave me the tea cups at my wedding shower last year ( it was a British tea party.. Cuz I'm obsessed with England haha) I'm going to stain the dresser to match after babe is born and were gonna add a ceiling fan. My MIL is making the bedding. I'm only using the bumper pads as decorations until babe is a year or so. They'll c,e off when she's sleeping in the crib. She's working on the crib skirt now so hopefully we'll get that soon. I made the mobile in the corner from Pinterest, I want to find a musical one for the bed. That's pretty much it, there's a few things I still want to add, but I'm stillll waiting on my EI money ( it's been 8 weeks Canadian bees..FYI) so those little things just have to wait.

What's taking your EI so long?! Mine took no time at all. I did the online sign up on June 18, and was paid right away after the two week grace period. Maybe you should call in? Are you in Ontario? I hope you figure it out soon!

ETA: oh we were writing at the same time. I see you have called. I am sure it will get sorted out. Mine was probably just quick because it was straight mat leave and I work privately too so I didn't have to send in a ROE or anything.

@StrawberryBee: glad I'm not the only one with a small NB supply. I do have lots of stores close by so someone can make a clothing run for me. That way I can have some gender specific clothing instead of all the white and yellow stuff I have.

Wow page 100! We are the chattiest month board I think!
