@Ms. RV: I wonder about this too! Some mornings P's head is freezing!
We went out to dinner and saw If/Then with Idina Menzel last night! It was so much fun to have a date night, and P did wonderfully. She went to sleep on time and didn't even wake-up until 4:30, 7.5 hours after bedtime! Our friend watched her, and said she was perfect. Next date night is next month when we get to see The Lion King

@Ms. RV: I admit, I wrap her lower half in a blanket. But she sleeps up against me with my hand on her chest, and so far she's never even moved the blanket, much less gotten it near her face. I'll reconsider if that changes. Though I'm thinking about getting a fleece sleep sack. She gets her arms out every time with the regular ones, but maybe we'd have better luck with fleece? I'd feel better with a sleep sack. And I sleep with my face against her head, so I keep her warm.

@Torchwood: are you comfy co-sleeping? I always like it in one way - love being close and snuggling. But I find I get such crap sleep when we do it bc I'm so paranoid about making sure we are being safe, AND I feel like I can't really pull the blankets up past my waist to cover myself so I'm cold. AND I feel like I can't change positions, I just have to lay on my side and it gets so uncomfy. I'd love to be able to do more co-sleeping tho. Any tips?
pomelo / 5607 posts
@buttermilk: I do get uncomfortable lying on my side all the time, but I sometimes roll on my back (so her head is still on my arm, but she's against my side instead of my chest). I put her on top of the covers, so that I can have them higher and they can't go over her. I sort of wrap the forearm of the arm she's laying on with a burp cloth to keep it warm. And I tuck a rolled baby blanket on her other side so she can't roll away from me if she's on the side closer to the edge of the bed (though I keep her far enough from the edge there's no way she could roll off anyway). Honestly, I'm not following all the rules perfectly, but so far neither of us move at all, so she's safe. I wake up if she wiggles too much, and she'd have to *really* move to get anything on her face or get to the edge of the bed. As she gets bigger and more mobile, we'll change things if we need to to keep it safe.

@Torchwood: I've been swaddling him with arms out as a way to use a blanket.
pomelo / 5607 posts
@Mrs. J: I actually do the opposite. She needs her arms swaddles, but if I swaddle her legs she wakes up from gas. She apparently has a hard time farting in a swaddle.

Omg y'all, this kid has somehow gotten even cuter! In the last week she's gone from so little eye contact that I was a little worried, to liking nothing better than grinning and making faces back and forth for long periods of time, and she's even started making giggly noises! Not really true laughs, but definite precursors! She's so stinking cute I can't stand it!

Finally getting the rest of my non-maternity clothes out of the attic. LO is only 4 months. Hooray jeans. I'm just hoping I have a pair that fits!

@Torchwood: good for you! I can fit into my pre-preg jeans thanks to the stretchiness, just not as well
Ramona has her 2 month shots today and I'm nervous for her. Got some baby Tylenol to be ready, I sure hope she does okay

@Torchwood: I remember 4 months being fun with DD-- like OhCaptain said, they really start being more interactive then.
N had his 2 month appointment last week-- looks like we have another string bean on our hands. He's 79th percentile for length but only 16th percentile for weight. I was a little disappointed that he hadn't gained more but the dr was pleased with the overall rate (2 lbs in like 5 weeks). He just seems to be long and skinny like DD. He did really well with the shots-- seemed his normal self all day! I feel like we've turned a corner with fussiness since he turned 8 weeks too-- hooray. AND he's been sleeping 8:30-3 (or thereabouts) the last week which is really nice. He isn't a great napper yet but better than DD was at this age so I'm going to try not to complain too much.
DD has been a total threenager the last week or two-- it's exhausting. I know I have less patience right now than I would if I was sleeping more....I need to work on that.

@abmamma: another string bean here! At our last appointment she Was 98th for height and 6th for weight. I can't wait to get the update today. Hopefully she is gaining well and we don't have to increase formula.

@buttermilk M had his 2 month check up/shots today too! (Although he won't actually be 2 months till the 24th). He did great with them - cried but I nursed him for just a few minutes and he was totally fine. He was asleep in the carseat as soon as we left the office. The doctor kind of freaked me out though, she said it's not uncommon for them to run a high-ish fever (like 102-103!) after the shots! She recommended giving Tylenol as soon as we got home to get ahead of it - also the Dtap can really make their leg hurt and the Tylenol will help him be more comfortable. I know I got the Dtap in pregnancy and my arm really hurt for a whole week. I hate overmedicating, but I gave him the Tylenol as soon as we got home. He woke up, we nursed a little, and he is passed out now!
M was 11 lb 9 oz and 23 inches - both right around the 55th percentile in height and weight. I thought he might be a little longer since DH and I are both tall, but it's a good size. Right now he just sort of looks like a meatball, LOL.
Hope everyone's LOs do well after their shots!

@buttermilk: Fingers crossed!!
Haha mine is a little butterball We had our appt and shots a couple weeks ago. He was 47th for height, 74th for weight, and 71st for head size. Even bigger than LO1 was (except for his head! My boys have huge noggins).
His legs were sore, especially the next day, but we gave some Tylenol and he comfort nursed some. They're pretty resilient!

Put L in her first size 2 diaper today! When did she get so big?! And we're starting cloth diaper service this week; I'm excited!
pomelo / 5607 posts
Annoyed. My cousin was visibly irritated when I made DH take L from her when she was crying. Dude, you literally snatched her from her daddy with no warning when she was having fun, and she cried because she has no idea who you are. If she was hungry or something I'd have handed her the bottle, but when you're the reason she's crying I'm not leaving her. No one has the right to hold her against her will dammit! She's not a doll to be passed around and played with, she's a person, with feelings and rights like anyone else.

@Torchwood: Ah I hate when people do that! Babies are not toys there for their enjoyment! Sorry you had to deal with that.
I'm taking a break from dh's parents for the next few weeks because his mother likes to baby hog and not give her back when she wants her mama.
People suck.
nectarine / 2086 posts
@Torchwood: that would make me very upset too!
@MrsStar: and that!!!
Are you guys still using a baby tracking app for feedings, sleep, diapers? I am. Would love to stop but with her weight issues I feel like I can't! And sleep - it's rly nice to see how much sleep she got each day.
nectarine / 2086 posts
Oh update from the doctor visit -
So she gained very well since her last appointment. 1 oz per day! That's with 6-8 oz of formula supplement per day. She is up to 9.5 lbs now but they is still like 8th percentile which concerns them. Still like 87th for height. I find I can't give her more than 1.5 oz supplement after a feed without a ton of spit up. So that combined with her hiccups and low weight make them think she has reflux. We started Zantac yesterday and I guess the hope is that she can take more per feeding, but they want me to just follow her cues. Girl never refuses food, but I've just been basing it on how much she spits up after. I guess we will see. I thought we had done so well when the nurse weighed her but I guess not?!
cantaloupe / 6791 posts
@buttermilk: What percentile was she at birth? Has she dropped dramatically? She may just be a tall string bean Hope the Zantac helps. We've been on it for about a week and a half and I can definitely tell it's been working.
nectarine / 2086 posts
@lilteacherbee: she was 7 lbs and 44th at birth. But since then she has always hovered around 8-15th percentile. I just calculated and she is 9.6th percentile now. Doc agrees she could just be a string bean but they want to rule out reflux and she said her growth pattern & height to weight ratio is pretty uncommon. And that most babies have a big jump in weight at some point in the first couple months.
pear / 1788 posts
@buttermilk: P was 11% at birth, and has stayed 11%... Growing right on the curve. Pediatricians are happy. I think that the percentile drop is what worried them. Hopefully R keeps growing on the curve, even if it's 8%, just to show she is a skinny little girl! A 1oz gain per day is more than enough to keep on the curve, she will probably move up a few percentage points!
nectarine / 2994 posts
@buttermilk: I hope the Zantac helps but her latest weight gain seems good!
nectarine / 2086 posts
So normally R is a little crying monster whenever I take her out in the stroller which means we spend 90% of our time together at home when I don't have DH to help. Today though, I had to take her to his work for an event at noon which is a 30 minute walk. I was dreading it, but she did SO GOOD! Cried some but I just picked her up and calmed her down each time. She did so well that I decided to visit my workplace after where she continued to be good, and then went out for an early happy hour with my coworker! We spent 4 hours at the restaurant chatting and R wasn't fussy at all! Just sat in my lap while I drank a pumpkin ale. She was the fussiest on the stroll home, but it still wasn't as bad as usual. I guess this long ass wonder week is finally over. We were out of the house for 7 hours! So proud of my baby!

Baby currently asleep in the crib! I figure her drive to sleep was pretty strong after our big day out, so we will see how long this lasts. Fingers crossed!!!
nectarine / 2086 posts
Yay it worked! Girl slept almost 6 hours in the crib with no peep! We nursed at 2:30 when she woke up which is a little earlier than usual but so was her bedtime. Then she slept another 2 hours in the crib. After 5:30 we had a really hard time getting her back down which is typical if that's her 2nd wake up. So she nursed/slept in our bed for another hour. I am so proud of her!
nectarine / 2262 posts
@buttermilk that's so amazing (the outing and the crib sleep!). I'm super jealous. M gets fussy and then just melts down if he doesn't get good naps - he will sometimes catnap if we are out but not a really good long nap.
We are going to have to transition to the crib eventually (probably with a crib wedge or something). I think M's head is getting kind of flat in the back from sleeping in the RnP. The ped said it kind of was, too. We're trying to do more tummy time but IDK what else to do. In the crib we can turn his head more to different directions so I guess that's what we need to do. Crib is in the nursery though... not sure how mama feels about putting him in the nursery by himself. Anyone else dealing with/dealt with a little bit of a flat head? I'm so paranoid he's going to have to get a helmet!! (Although I don't think it's REALLY that bad)
Another question... any other EBF babies have totally foul poop? His poop used to not really smell but now, OMG, it's awful. I don't know if that's normal or if that is related to all of his allergies/MSPI stuff (well, more than just milk and soy but you know). His diapers have also started getting super mucusy - like when you pull the diaper apart it's like bubblegum, just huge sticky strings of mucus. He goes back to the GI on Wednesday of next week.
I feel like I just keep eliminating food after food and I don't know what else to do. Maybe there is something else going on with him? Someone suggested eliminating potatoes since he had a reaction to tomatoes and they are both nightshades. Although without potatoes I'm so limited in what I can eat. I ate some Enjoy Life (allergy friendly) chocolate chips and I could see chocolate being irritating, so I'm cutting that out. He is a lot better than he was but I just feel like he's not even close to "normal baby"... still a good amount of discomfort, gas, reflux, and the weird diapers. I don't know. It's hard. I am still having a cup of coffee in the morning so that could be a problem too, but I just really really don't want to give that up!
nectarine / 2086 posts
@MrsADS: your diet sounds so intense, it must be so hard! what a tremendous sacrifice you are making for your baby! I'm not sure about the flat head thing. I've been wondering about R's head be I'm paranoid but the ped hasn't said anything about it. But she did tell me I needed to move her to the crib be its safer?? I was already planning on it. R's poop is pretty smelly but she is hybrid fed. Also her broccoli farts are THE WORST!
nectarine / 2086 posts
@MrsADS: forgot to add... I was so nervous about baby sleeping in a separate room that I set up our air mattress in her nursery the first night (the one she slept horribly through). But after that first night I felt so much better about it - I was just over it and wanted to be back in my bed. It was SO nice to not have to sneak around when crawling into bed last night - and I could even read with the lights on! I did check the video monitor a few times and watched to make sure she was still breathing.
nectarine / 2262 posts
@buttermilk omg the nasty farts. I am like who is feeding this kid beans and broccoli behind my back?! Yeah I am nervous about the separate room but I sleep so poorly with him in our room. He's such a noisy sleeper and every little sound wakes me up.
cantaloupe / 6791 posts
@MrsADS: My first baby preferred one side of his head to the other (his neck was tight from being stuck at the end of my pregnancy-his head was HUGE and he was almost 9 lbs). The ped mentioned it at his 6 month appt because the back of his head was getting noticeably flat on one side. It ended up correcting itself as he got older and at his 9 month appt, the ped said it looked great.
He'll be 2 in a few weeks and his head is perfectly round!

Anyone want a cat? Seriously, really struggling with what to do here. My cat is older (13-14) and she is not happy about the changes around here. She's started peeing on stuff and ruining it, and is generally stressed. She swatted my mom (with claws) the other day when she was just standing there. She's always been a bit of a brat (she frequently bites you when you pet her, even when she initiates it and seems to be enjoying it), and I knew we'd have to keep LO away from her, but if it's not safe to just stand near her what am I supposed to do when LO gets mobile? I assumed we'd have to cordone off a room for her to get away, but now it seems like she'll just pee everywhere. I feel terrible that she's so unhappy and neglected, but it's hard to give her attention. I don't have the time/lap space, and like I said, giving her attention will usually get you bitten. It sucks. I'm to the point that I keep thinking at least she's old, she can't last too much longer, but I don't want her last years to be miserable for her either. Poor kitty. Mostly.

Though on a positive note, she FINALLY found the heating pad I put in a bed for her. She has arthritis, so she loves heat.

Is there an 8 wk growth spurt or something? M was up every 2 to 3 hours last night to nurse and today is ta king super short crap naps and he's super overtired and cranky. Oh and I have 3 out if town guests in my house I'm entertaining for 4 nights.... They are at the beach so this is supposed to be my nap time but baby boy either won't go down or wakes up after 15 minutes.

@Torchwood: It's horrible how cats seem to hate babies but dogs welcome them into the pack. Good luck with your cat situation. Maybe she'll grow to ignore L? My mom's cats would always walk right up to my sister's LO's when they were in their bucket seats and hiss. Now when they see C's, they run away.
@MrsADS: Ugh. So sorry about the house guests. Hopefully you got in some nap.
pear / 1930 posts
C slept through a fire drill today. She was picked out her seat, carried into 62° weather, and didn't stir a bit. There were even alarms. Then tonight she was napping fairly deeply in a RnP and I coughed once and she woke up. Really?
kiwi / 641 posts
@Ms. RV: haha. Funny how that happens! Similarly, DH set off the smoke detectors (they are all wired together in our house so if 1 goes off, they all do) making toast this morning and DD came running into my room screaming - terrified to be woken up that way. But N didn't move. But I turn the white noise down a touch 20 mins into a nap and his eyes immediately open!! Crazy!
