Hooray for a postpartum thread! I'm glad to finally have some of my people joining me!
We're doing really well! She's 6 weeks, so 39 and thus basically full-term. She's waking up more, acting more like a typical newborn than a preemie. And she's growing! She'll be out of newborn clothes very soon. BFing is still the biggest issues, but progress is happening. She successfully nursed with the SNS for the second time! She gets her ties released Wednesday, so hopefully that will really help. I'm terrified though. I'm definitely going to cry.
Other than that, not much going on! We're just hanging out. Still totally in love with this sweet girl!

Interesting! We've had some nursing issues but they're getting better. And baby hates sleeping on his back...so yea. It's been challenging. DH went back to work today but thankfully my mom is here for a few weeks. We're going to cranial sacral therapy today to see if we can get some issues from the long labor worked out!
How's everyone else!?

@Portboston: L immediately rolls on her side when we set her down. So she's not a fan of back sleeping either. I'm glad your BFing issues are getting better! We're doing the craniosacral therapy this week too, to help with her ties having pulled her jaw back. I'm really interested to see how it goes. And thanks!

@Torchwood: Adorable!!
Looking forward to joining you ladies if baby would just cooperate and show up!

@Torchwood: we had our appointment today & he was super relaxed when she was working on the left side of his neck but got so upset when she did the right. And even more so when she was examining his mouth it was hard to watch
Are you guys allowing her to side sleep? We tried for a week to make miles back sleep and it was torture (for us and him!) so we caved and are letting him stomach sleep.
pomelo / 5607 posts
@Portboston: I hope she doesn't get too upset. I'm dreading the ties being clipped enough; she doesn't need multiple upsetting appointments. We are letting her side sleep, because it would be really hard to stop her. Though she sleeps about half the time (at night) with her head on my arm and me curled around her. Pretty sure that's officially considered unsafe, but I never move unless she does, in which case I wake up every time. As long as I'm responsive I don't see any way for there to be a problem.

Also, I've been worrying about my supply since I'm basically EPing right now. But I realized today that I have over 100oz frozen. So maybe not something I need to worry about. (And the hospital really gave us a lot of bottles; we still have at least a third of them left.)

@Torchwood: great stash!
So, we are home and so far so good. Couple of failed tests at the hospital need recheck in the next week, so we are dealing with that. 1. P kept spitting up brown bloody goo, which apparently was amniotic fluid? Had to be lavaged. Then she failed her first hearing screen in her left eat, with a 0% sound recognition. Cue panic! Doctor wasn't surprised though, because of the amniotic fluid in her belly. A quick delivery caused fluid in the stomach and ears, because it wasn't squeezed out. She cried right away at birth, so the fluid made it out of her lungs, which was more important of course! Next day hearing was 96% in the left ear, so we still failed the test, but it's.obviously the fluid problem. 2. Doctor detected a slight heart murmur so P had to get an echocardiogram. She passed her circulation and oxygen saturation tests and the doctor says he thinks it's the "good" self-healing type of murmur but we will find out tomorrow at her appointment. We still came.home at normal time, and breastfeeding seems to be the one thing going our way!
So happy to be home!

@Mrs. Microscope: Well, I'm glad everything is going well overall, even with the scares. I hope they confirm no worries on the heart. I would have freaked out about all that. But I'm jealous breastfeeding is going well!
L gets her ties clipped tomorrow. I'm having to deliberately not think about it to keep from totally freaking out. I just hate when she cries, and it's inevitable that this will be upsetting for her. I want to cry just thinking about it; actually going through it is going to be horrible (for me). Thankfully she at least didn't mind her craniosacral therapy at all. If anything she seemed to enjoy it, but that could be me reading into it since it looked like something I would enjoy.

@Mrs. Microscope: so glad you're home too and I bet everything will resolve itself!
@Torchwood: hang in there, hope you both get through tomorrow. It must be so rough, I would be a mess too!

@Torchwood: hang in there mama! Have a warm bottle or your breast ready, because I know they want her to feed right away, and mama's milk is a natural pain killer! You got this! L is going to rock it, just watch!

Hi ladies! Got home today, and it feels like I haven't even left! Isla is doing amazing, she's already a pro at breastfeeding and sleeping! My milk started coming in yesterday afternoon (about 30 hours after birth) so dealing with engorgement. I had a first degree tear that I can't even feel so I feel pretty great! Wearing my pre-pregnancy clothes (yipee!) and dd1 is in love with her little sister.

@MrsStar: Such a great update!! I can't wait to be in your place. Isla is such a doll.
@Torchwood: I hope the proceedure goes well. So normal to feel that way. Even DS' little heel pricks had me welling up. Hoping it's as easy as it can be!

@buttermilk: @Mrs. Microscope: @getjazzy: Thank you for the support! Her appointment is in an hour. And of course she's been fussy today. But she comfort nursed today for the first time! She's never been interested enough in nursing for that to work.
persimmon / 1179 posts
@Torchwood: Well that's an awesome silver lining!! Have they said the procedure might cause her pain when she nurses? I don't know anything about it and whether there's pain afterwards or not. Would be awesome if there isn't and you can grab the opportunity to comfort nurse her again after they are done. Will be thinking about you guys!
pomelo / 5607 posts
@getjazzy: From what I've read she'll be sore for a few days, so no telling how she'll feel about nursing or eating from a bottle. But I'm going to try.

@Torchwood: thinking about you!
P had her follow up for her heart, and it was good news! Tiny hole in the "best" place to have one, should heal up on its own within 2 months. So happy!

@Mrs. Microscope: That's wonderful! So happy for you.
Baby girl's tie release went well. Turns out we weren't allowed back there during the procedure, which was good. Didn't have to see it and be upset, but don't have to feel guilty since it wasn't my choice. They said she did great, and she was almost back asleep by the time when we got back to her. She's passed out now, and not too fussy. Hopefully she'll stay comfortable enough.

This sucks. She's mostly sleeping non-stop, but when she is awake she's crying. She never, ever cries, so I can't even pretend it's just her "usual" crying like I could if she did. Poor kid.
persimmon / 1179 posts
@Torchwood: That's awful. Did they say she could have any Tylenol or anything to help?
pomelo / 5607 posts
@getjazzy: We've been giving her Tylenol. She spits some out every time, so it's hard to be sure how much she's getting, but hoping it's helping. Time is going to be the biggest help, but it sucks in the meantime.

@Mrs. Microscope: Yay!! That's great!!
@Torchwood: Ugh, so sorry Hopefully, this will be worth it and nursing will become so much easier.

@Torchwood: ugh! I hope it gets better soon. At least they were able to diagnose it now. My coworker was having it done this summer on her 16 month old. They never knew he had one, and it had been so problematic–latch issues, bottle refusal, constipation, speech issues etc.
@mrs.microscope: yay!
We are just hanging out in the hospital. With Ds1, we only stayed one night, but since I was GBS positive and only got one round of antibiotics, they need to monitor DS2 for 48 hours. DH stayed last night, but I think he will go home to be with DS1 tonight
OMG totally forgot about all of the uterine cramping that happens after!

Day 2 of engorgement, better than day 1! Had our newborn photos today. Realized I still haven't posted a photo of P for you guys! Can't do it from my phone, but I will try to get one up soon!
@Torchwood: thinking of you today! Hope L has a better day!
@Mrs. J: fingers crossed you can go home soon as a family of 4!
persimmon / 1179 posts
@Mrs. Microscope: Yes!! We need more squishy newborn pictures to encourage the rest of our stubborn babies to come out!!
pomelo / 5607 posts
@Mrs. J: A friend said they know someone whose 3yo is having ties clipped because it caused a bunch of tooth decay and stuff, and they're having to do it under full sedation. I didn't realize how many issues ties can cause. These stories definitely make me feel good about having it done. And she's better today, though still way fussier than her usual. And I was up with her for 2 hours last night (not crying, just wanted to be held and refused to fall asleep), which is not normal for her. For some reason I was wide awake though, so it could have been worse. You can already see a difference in the shape of her mouth and how she sucks on the bottle. And she's taking more from the bottle, so presumably she's more efficient now. Here's hoping that will be the case for nursing as well. She hasn't been too interested in trying yet, but hopefully when we see the LC Sunday she'll help. (@Mrs. Microscope)
And yes, the uterine contractions for days postpartum were no fun! I had forgotten too.

Just because I can't resist sharing pictures of little miss chubby cheeks. Though pretty sure brown is not her color.
