Lo is getting too long for her bassinet so we're setting up her crib in our room this weekend and going to try to make the transition!

We had our 2 month appt today. C is 23 inches and 13 lbs even (and he's only in the 71st percentile for head circumference, which is surprising because my babies have huge heads!). The ped thinks he has mild reflux, so we're starting on Zantac. He's always been a spitter, but recently it's starting to seem like it's bothering him. The past few days, he's had episodes where he almost chokes and it's always 1.5-2 hours after he eats, so it freaks me out. Hopefully, the meds will help!

When I was pregnant with my son a friend told me that one of the hardest things as a parent is knowing when to take your kids to the doctor. I sorta thought she was crazy and didn't understand how that would be hard. She was so right!
E just woke up to eat and has a slight fever. She doesn't appear to be bothered, as she isn't fussy, just warm. I didn't take her temp, and I can't decide if I should give her tylenol or not! I'm assuming the temp is a reaction to the shots she got on Thursday. That or she picked up the cold my son has. It's so hard to keep him from kissing her face!
Sorry, just some MOTN ramblings...

@OhCaptain: My rule is to never treat a fever as long as it's low and not bothering them (which goes for me and DH as well). A fever is your body's way of fighting infection, so it's actually a good thing as long as it's not causing issues of its own.

On the DH complaint front- how hard is it to understand the difference between night and day?! We have her on preemie nipples, since the slower flow keeps her from getting as frustrated at the breast. (She also spits up less with them.) But at night she was taking so long to eat that she was falling asleep before she got properly full, and waking up again every hour, so I switched her back to level 1 just for motn feedings. DH can NOT figure out which to use and when. I explained my reasoning, but he still tries to do level 1 during the day, and just brought me a preemie at 5am because "it's morning." Yes, technically, but if she and I are both going back to bed after, it's still motn! (And he was going back to bed too, so not like it was actually morning for him either.) I told him as long as she's swaddled, use level 1 (since we only swaddle at night), but apparently even that's not clear enough.

@Torchwood: they don't remember anything lol even at almost 2 years old, I still have to prompt DH on a lot for our oldest.

@Mrs. J: It's so frustrating! Yesterday when I got annoyed, he asked, "well, do you know about [stuff he needs to know for work]?" No, but I would if it was my job! And I may be the primary caregiver, since I don't work outside the home, but it's still important for him to know how best to feed his own child! I'm good about letting him do things his own way, even when it bothers me, but this is important!
But, on a more positive note- you guys, we might have found a method of supplementing while nursing that really works! The SNS worked, but it was slow (so she got frustrated still) and it was really hit or miss on whether I could get the tube in her mouth so that she was actually drawing milk from it. But this new way has worked well enough that she's gotten her last 3 (non-motn) feedings at the breast! And she doesn't mind it; I'm not having to work to get her to latch/stay on. If anything, it's faster than the bottle with the preemie nipples, so I'm even hoping she might decide she prefers it. Fingers crossed!

@Torchwood: that's great! What is the new method?
Oh husbands! Mine forgets every. single. time. to add the little gas drops to R's bottles of formula.
pomelo / 5607 posts
@buttermilk: The LC gave me some tubes that are stiffer and slightly bigger than the one on the SNS. Initially we used them with syringes. But they weren't big enough (stopping to refill them made her mad), and they wore out. I also needed DH's help. But another LC showed me a way to thread it through a nipple on a bottle, and basically use it as a straw. I'm going to do a blog post on it if that doesn't really make sense.

Though now that she's mostly willing to nurse, I'm struggling to tell when she's full! I can't tell if she's actually full or just wants the bottle back! We'll have to work out the kinks here I suppose.
pear / 1788 posts
@Torchwood: I can rarely tell if P is full... She sometimes pulls off after 20-30 min, and then I know. Other times she falls asleep at the breast, and will do light sucks, just comfort nursing, but if I try to pull her off she starts real sucking again! With the thrush, I have had to cut back on the comfort nursing as the wetness isn't good for my nipples. I think letting her use me as a pacifier for an hour+ while sleeping or watching TV contributed to us getting thrush in the first place.
So happy your nursing relationship is getting better! I knew you could do it!
nectarine / 2086 posts
@Torchwood: @Mrs. Microscope: I also have a hard time telling. I usually wait til she pulls off several times in a row and then isn't crying afterwards. It's usually about 30 mins. Tho 40 mins is my max. If she is still hungry after that i'lol top her off with 1-2 ounces of formula. She is getting 6-8 ounces of formula each day bc of my low supply, which I've made peace with by the way. I just returned my hospital grade pump today bc I have literally done all I can do to boost my supply and pumping after every feeding is just not a long term solution. I only get like 3-4 ounces per day anyway and I need to get on with my life!

So we ended up setting up the crib in our room yesterday and Isla had her first night in it last night. She slept 9.30pm-6am I bet it was a fluke though!

@MrsStar: oh man good for you!!! I almost put DD in the nursery but chickened out and put her in the pack n play instead which is in our room. She has only slept in the RnP so far. She slept for an hour and then was impossible to settle back down. Woke up crying every time we put her down which was like 8 times. We tried for over an hour before I gave in and out her in the RnP. I don't know what to even do! She know how to put her self to sleep in the day time. But nighttime is a different story.

I took my son out of the bassinet at 5 weeks because I couldn't sleep through his noises. E sleeps so great (relatively) im hers, I'm nervous to move her. I think she likes the cocoon like feeling. I'm going to have to figure out how to recreate that in the crib!
pomelo / 5132 posts
@buttermilk: does your pack n play have the bassinet topper? Otherwise, that mattress isn't very comfy. To start both boys in th crib early on, we swaddled them and kind of made a little nest. We'd put them on a diagonal from the corner and then roll up two blankets on either side to make the crib seem less big, more cozy. Now L is a wriggler and scoots around the crib, so I had to take it out, but I think it initially helps.
nectarine / 2086 posts
@Mrs. J: okay yes it does have the bassinet topper but I was thinking I need to get her used to being flat? but you're right very uncomfortable! She seems like she gets so uncomfy in the RNP at night bc she gets all squished up.
pomelo / 5132 posts
@buttermilk: yea I get you about the angle. If you're ready to go to the crib, you could try angling the crib to transition and then put it back flat once she sleeps in there (or she might sleep great in there...you never know!). We angled the crib for J's reflux. We lifted the one side with books and put a blanket horseshoe under yhe sheet so he couldn't slide away. Mrs. blue had a great blog post on that.

This kid has literally been asleep something like 20 of the last 22 hours. So afraid she won't sleep at all tonight! She slept 8.5 hours straight last night, so I'd really love for a repeat!

@MrsStar: omg in the wee hours this morning, C did a huge poop then spit up all over my front, then gave me the biggest grin ever. "Look what I made for you, mummy!"
@torchwood: hopefully it doesn't take away from her night sleep. Don't they say "sleep begets sleep" or something? Fingers crossed!
Thanks for everyone's feedback about your night sleep periods a few pages back. I think my little guy is just super hungry and can't go the longer stretch without milk yet. That said, for the past two nights his first stretch of night sleep has been 3 hours instead of 1.5-2, which I'm hoping is the beginning of something good!
In other news, I managed to get my regular jeans back on! Also, I got a couple of new bras because the nursing ones I have felt a bit tight - I've gone from a C to a DD!!! How are all the rest of you nursing mamas going with boobs and bras?
pomelo / 5132 posts
@kitty: with LO1, I went from a B to a DD, and before I got pregnant again, I was *maybe* down to a C. Back to DD again!
kiwi / 696 posts
@kitty: I only have one real nursing bra, and it's a G or an H, I can't recall. I was a G during pregnancy so if they've gone up at all its only one size. Days that I'm just at home or only running a few errands I've been wearing cheap sports bras from target: now that my supply is settled and it's a little easier to nurse, I want to go get another "real" bra, I like having the support and shape!
I miss my non nursing bras!
nectarine / 2086 posts
@kitty: I was an A cup before getting pregnant and I'm pretty much still an A, just fuller. Honestly most of the time I don't wear a bra at all, it's just easier and I don't ever leak. I do have one soft one from target that I wear when I leave the house.
pear / 1788 posts
@buttermilk: welcome back to the menstruation club! I'm hoping mine was a fluke, and I get a fee months break before the next one.
Going to Disney World next week, and our friends that are coming with us told us they are expecting #2! She's 8 weeks now, total surprise as she had pcos and needed meds to have her LO who just turned 1. They also had some MFI as well, and he needed meds too, so this was a happy surprise. Made me happy to not be pregnant though... Still planning to ttc again late next year!

@torchwood hope you guys slept last night! I am a little jealous.
@kitty very jealous you're back in your jeans. I have at least another 10lbs to go (maybe more like 12-15) before I get there. As for nursing bras, I have 4 of the soft sleep bras from Target - I wear them 24/7 around the house. I have to wear breast pads since I leak so braless isn't an option. I also have 2 more structured nursing bras from Target. I bought them while pg so they don't fit perfectly but they do the job. They were too small when my milk was first coming in but they fit now. Pre preg I was A to small B, these nursing bras are a C. My boob size fluctuates tremendously depending on how engorged I am.
@buttermilk AF already!! Ugh nooo. So sorry lady!
@Mrs. Microscope please come back and post about how WDW goes with a baby!! We live 3 hours away. Not planning to go anytime soon, but one of my best friends will be there in early Dec and I'm thinking about taking M for a weekend if he is doing okay with sleep and stuff.
I'm so tired y'all. Is there some kind of growth spurt between 6-8 weeks? M slept from 9:30-1am and then was awake from 1 to 4am! Just... awake! Like, baby party time. And then woke up again at 7, did not go down for a nap until 10:30. He's still asleep now but ugh, seriously. He turns into such a bear when he's overtired too.

@MrsADS: will do! We are just doing MK and MNSSHP, and then Epcot for Food and Wine. Short and sweet. P will be 12 weeks.
Made it to story time at the library today! It was more song time with private reading breaks, but it was fun and P seemed to like it, until she fell asleep at the end. No crying! I think we will try to go every Monday! Going to be ambitious and try for baby and me yoga this afternoon as well...
nectarine / 2086 posts
@Mrs. Microscope: @MrsADS: honestly idk what is up with my vag! bleeding has been very sporadic and light, but bright red when it happens. I've just been wearing pantyliners. Could it be still from postpartum? I've been a lot more active the past 3 days. Started working out again and my mom is in town so we have walked all over the city shopping.
nectarine / 2262 posts
@buttermilk that happened to me about a week or so ago! Not enough to need more than a pantyliner but it was bright red. I think it was just more PP bleeding after being more active. I'm nursing round the clock so I can't imagine it was my period...
pomelo / 5607 posts
@kitty: They do say that, it just seems so counterintuitive! But she did a 6 hour stretch last night, so clearly there's something to it.
I wear the nursing bras they sell at the little shop at the children's hospital. The shop is super cheap- better than Amazon. I think they're medela bras. They're just s-m-l type sizes, and I think I'm wearing a large. I haven't checked, but my guess is that I'm somewhere around a 34DD-DDD now, especially when I'm really full, and these bras are comfortable.
@MrsADS: If anyone ever says you can't have a good supply if you don't have monster huge boobs, I'm telling them about you. Because clearly that is not the case!
@Mrs. Microscope: I hadn't even thought about taking her to story time! I bet she'd like it, and my friends at the library are dying to meet her. I think it's in the morning though, and we're still on a 11/12-10/11-ish "night" schedule. But hopefully we can push bedtime earlier soon!
nectarine / 2086 posts
@MrsADS: yeah so weird! I do supplement a little but I still nurse around the clock too. No cramping over here either. Did you have any last wk?

I think we are officially joining the MSPI crowd. When we went to our two month appointment last week our Ped said "well, cut out milk and see what happens" when I voiced my concerns about E's face rash and mucousy diaper. I had already cut out obvious dairy, but hadn't done much about soy or the hidden diary. Her poops have actually gotten worse since the appointment (and I've yet to be super strict about the diet) but yesterday was sort of a mental tipping point for me after she had green poop all day. I read the labels of something's I'd been eating and assuming were safe and sure enough, milk and/or soy were in them! Like...banana chips and deli meat. Oops.
I'm not too worried about what I "can't have" I used to eat paleo pretty strictly. I just need to stock up on safe foods!
nectarine / 2086 posts
@OhCaptain: well at least you have a path to go down now! Hope you get some more answers soon.
Ok I rly think this bleeding isn't my period. Decent amount of blood but no cramping or other PMS symptoms and I also notice a ton of the clear lochia discharge too so I'm thinking just more postpartum stuff.

@buttermilk: that's awesome! I tried to put L down earlier and he did not like that lol. I'm pumping because wayyy too full and I hear my toddler awake upstairs. Noooooooo

@buttermilk: nice! E slept nine hours a few nights ago but hasn't since.
I'm starting to feel the effects of lack of sleep. My 3yo isn't napping, which means I'm not napping at any point either. The bonus is he goes to bed at 7. What I need to do is force myself to go to bed at 9. But suddenly at 9, im
Not tired anymore.

I also woke up with some sort of tummy ache thing, which I really hope goes no further. The stomach flu is miserable when you have kids.
