Thanks guys, it is such a relief. Totally the best possible outcome. I've been so happy all afternoon- the anatomy scan was the big hurdle in my brain and now I just feel excited!

    Cheese alert:
I'm way more attached to this baby than I was to my daughter when she was in utero. I mean, I was excited to meet her but it feels different this time. Like I'm already in love with the baby in a way I wasn't with my daughter until after she was born (and I wasn't a love at first sight mom, either- it took a few weeks for me to feel the full weight of it with her).
I guess that's one benefit to the second child- I already know how to love it

@Silva: Ahhhh amazing news!! I'm so happy to hear this that's also wonderful you feel so attached already. I feel the opposite so far, but it's still early. Having an anterior placenta and not having as much time or energy to think about it makes me feel much less attached so far.

Getting to Know you Question - What do you do for a living? Or favorite hobby/activity?

@Pirouette: I'm in the same boat as you (plus add chasing around a very 'spirited' toddler, and going back to work for a start-up.. what was I thinking?!). DH wonders if we would feel more connected if we had chosen to find out the gender. I'm still glad that we're going to save that for the birth day but a part of me thinks he might be right.

Hope everyone else is doing well! Silva, so great to hear your good news. I don't post all that often (see above about being busy) and this thread moves so fast but I try to keep up the best I can!

I am transitioning out of being a SAHM to being the office manager of a stand-alone birth center. It's a start-up and it has been crazy interesting to work with the midwives from the ground up on this project! My favorite activity or hobby is probably a tie between being outside- walking hiking etc, and going to see live music!

Checking in, had a great A/S today! Baby girl was nicknamed Fidget by the US tech because she would hardly sit still long enough to get the images she needed! All in all though, things look great. I do have a low-lying, posterior placenta so it may be a few more weeks before I really start to feel her. Here's a quick pic from our scan.

    @T.H.O.U.: To answer your questions...

What I do for a living - I am a software designer at a security start up.

Favorite hobby/activity - Does sleeping count? I love binge watching tv, shopping, and reading, to name a few. I'm pretty boring, lol.

@T.H.O.U.: I work in Police Communications and I love to nap, read, shop, research (lol), and play video games with DH! Cheesy, I know

@MrsKerch: What a beautiful profile picture of your baby girl!

    @thismustbetheplace: Ditto on being outside.

I don't have a hobby or activity per se. But I do love being outside: walking, hiking, brunching, pool, driving range... I also love doing pilates a few times a week and I'm hoping I can get back to it soon.

@mrschickpea: What is police communications? Dispatch?

Favorite activity would be Bar classes and running, both things I miss dearly right now! I SAH now, but previously I was a probation officer for about 10 years.

  23. OldpuebloJenn

@MrsKerch: what a perfect profile view u/s pic!

@T.H.O.U.: I'm a former fundraiser, now SAHM. I volunteer for a local political campaign, I run my local alumni chapter and direct a local advocacy group.

My hobbies are cooking, baking, gardening, reading, and (trying to) stay active.

@Pirouette: @thismustbetheplace: I'm with you two, having some trouble connecting with this pregnancy. Also have a toddler, and I'm team green too, although that didn't hamper my connection last time. I think with my first pregnancy I could fully embrace pregnancy, I had nothing else to divide my attention.

@dcw6411: What is "SCH"? And a probation officer!?!! That's awesome. For what age group? I know a tiny girl who is tough as nails and she used to be a youth probation officer!

@OldpuebloJenn: @Pirouette: @thismustbetheplace: I don't know if I'm having trouble connecting or not. I mean, I know this is my baby girl growing in there, and I feel her sometimes, and I love her. But I'm trying to imagine what it will be like when I actually hold her!

I'm a clinical social worker and drug and alcohol counselor in private practice, two days a week. Previously I've worked primarily with young women who have substance abuse issues and are pregnant or parenting. I also have worked in a couple jails.

After the baby is born I will be dropping down to one day a week in practice for the foreseeable future.

@agold: It should have said SAH ( stay at home). I edited to fix! Darn phone losts. Lol. I worked with juveniles for several years and then moved to the adult population. It was a good job but demanding and I don't miss it.

  27. Pirouette

    pomegranate / 3331 posts

@MrsKerch: yay! beautiful pic! my baby is super fidgety too, which makes me so antsy that i can't feel him!

@thismustbetheplace: the new gig sounds awesome! i think finding out the gender definitely helps for me, but we need to name him before it really makes a difference for me. But i'm one of those who always says I could never be team green, i'm sure it doesn't make a difference for most people!

@OldpuebloJenn: yes, i'm too distracted to bond! but also the anterior placenta is making a huge difference for me. Those constant kicks really made me feel like the baby was communicating to me! I really miss that about my 1st pregnancy.

@agold: it sounds to me like you're bonding perfectly for this time period! that's about how i felt right now with my first. This time it's like:
DH: "How's our boy doing? (touches my belly)
    Me: our...boy? Oh, right I'm pregnant. I don't know, he doesn't communicate.
DH: yea, I don't feel anything.

Last time, we had these sweet moments where he'd touch my belly all the time and feel her move in response... now it just feels more distant.

There's also this feeling of how will i ever love another human being as much as I love DH and LO? I know in my head that my heart will grow, the way it did when LO was born. but it's hard to imagine her not being my entire world, and feeling that way about someone else.

OK that was a novel, sorry

Update: We had a great ultrasound on Tuesday. Now we're super positive it's a girl and I'm ready to go PINK crazzzyyy!

Also, DS just left with SIL and we hope he will spend the night at her house. If it actually works, this will be the first time he's EVER slept away from us! I'm both nervous and excisted about it - he's 23 months old and a night alone with DH is much needed!

For a living: I'm an actuary by profession, but scaled back after DS was born and do actuarial consulting on a project by project basis<<-- The job I don't love. Also own and run an online/Facebook baby store from home with a small staff. <<-- The job I LOVE.

Hobbies: Going out to eat/sampling new food, baking going to the beach, waterfalls - total island girl!

@Pirouette: funny u mention that... just minutes ago I told DH "I feel like you don't care to feel Juliet moving.. is this a 2nd baby thing?" First time around every little thing was so special but this time the stages are passing by without much fanfare.

@Mrs. Chocolate: thank you! Dd1 is super excited. She will be five years when baby comes so she really gets it. Although she starts K the same week so we will see how we transition. DS will inly be two so he has no idea!

@T.H.O.U.: I work for a major weight loss company and love going to the movies/travelling.

@Pirouette: DH never would of felt LO at 23 weeks last time and only felt her a few times throughout the entire pregnancy so when he can't or doesn't feel this one yet I try to keep that in mind.

@Glitter: Enjoy your baby free night. LO stayed with my parents a few weeks ago and DH had to do some work and I went to bed early. Total waste of a night!

    pear / 1718 posts

@MrsKerch: @Glitter: So glad you both had great scans!

@Pirouette: For some reason, I feel like I have just turned a corner with this little guy in terms of bonding. I will say I felt more bonded to my DD at this point, but I think with all of the preparations and projects, being worried about how DD's life will be impacted, and of course life in general, that it has taken me longer to bond with this baby. I will say that I think picking a name (or at least the name we are pretty sure we'll go with!) and feeling more kicks has definitely helped.

The way you feel about your DD . . . I totally get it. It's right at the top of my list of fears/anxiety . . . that I could not love another baby as much as I love my daughter. She is my heart! And most of the time, I am more worried about her than I am about myself or this baby (mostly because I know he is perfectly healthy and on track for growth) or anything else for that matter.

@T.H.O.U.: My hobbies include baking, books/movies, playing video games with DH (right there with ya @mrschickpea:!), and shopping . . . as Olympia Dukakis says in Steel Magnolias, "it is our ability to accessorize that separates us from the animals.:

this baby is breech and a little low, and kicks me in the bladder all day long- especially while I"m sitting. Which means on my work days its incessant. If my bladder isn't totally empty I nearly pee my pants with every kick.

@pwnstar: its such a strange feeling! I also got my first foot cramp last night and started screaming- my husband nearly killed himself jumping off the treadmill because he thought I was dying.

  40. pwnstar

    pear / 1718 posts

@Silva: Those seriously suck! I got several foot/leg cramps during my first pregnancy (none yet with this one) . . . and OMG the pain was excruciating and took forever to dissipate.
