@Silva: No need to apologize ever around here. I get it. I have no idea how partners of doctors handle their partners being doctors. I also feel the same about lawyers Seems like very little work/life balance in those careers, and non-traditional hours sound ROUGH. Hang in there. He's almost done, and it sounds like it will be so so much better when residency is over. Such a huge milestone. Oh, and everything seems crappy when feeling sick. xoxo

thanks everyone!
@MrsSCB: oh my god yes. It's brutal. I have less than zero motivation and it's killing me.
@ShootingStar: I want a rug for the nursery - I think it will really tie the room together and clothes, i have nothing yet! I also just got this fun decal for LO's big girl room and I'm excited to put it up! oh and I need 2 cars seats, but I'm having trouble deciding what to get.
@pregnantbee: oh the forgetting pump parts! I'm not looking forward to dealing with that again. It was like twice a week I had to have someone bring me parts the first few weeks!
grapefruit / 4717 posts
@Pirouette: It was so sad! Luckily I live 10 min. away, especially mid-day, so I would have to drive home, pump there, and return. Luckily I'd remember the actual pump to take home with me and match it with the parts I forgot there. I was a mess! I'm also really not psyched to deal with it all again, but I feel like I owe it to baby girl to at least try.

@Silva: hugs that sounds rough. my husband used to have to work overnights a lot when we first started dating (totally different career), and I can't even imagine what it would be like now. but at least it will be slowing down at the exact right time for this baby to arrive!

@T.H.O.U.: YES. This was the exact problem. Long torso over here. Overall, I'm short -- but my legs are really short in proportion. So I spent tons of time hunched over, which killed my neck, pinched a nerve, and caused tons of pain in my hands and arms up to my elbows. I think my nursing position contributed, as did holding the baby incorrectly and pushing the stroller incorrectly. So, I'm going to try the other one, and I hope it's much better. I'll also have to be much more mindful of all positioning b/c I really just won't want to have to make the time for weekly or multi-weekly therapy again.

@Pirouette: I had a whole system for the pump parts because I kept forgetting them too. A couple times I had to drive way out of my way at lunch to buy new ones, which really sucked. What ended up working for me was to leave the parts in the mother's room fridge over night, and then replace them in the morning with clean ones. In the event that I forgot them, I'd wash the ones that were still at work.
pomegranate / 3331 posts
@pregnantbee: haha i was living in the city, so i'd walk home and get them or have my MIL or DH walk them over to me. not an option since i'm 40 minutes away now! I better get my shit together quickly postpartum I feel the same way about wanting to give it a shot with this baby, but i can't see myself lasting with pumping or nursing as long as i did with LO.

@ShootingStar: ooh that's a good idea! so you had two sets, and brought two to work at first, then brought home one set every day and left one set at work? and just kept rotating them? i think this time around i'm going to buy a mini fridge for my office (i pump in my office) so i have a separate place for storage. i HATED using the shared food fridge
grapefruit / 4717 posts
@Pirouette: I bought a mini fridge for under my desk for the purpose of storing used pump parts to not wash after every session, as well as pumped milk. Best money ever spent.
pomegranate / 3331 posts
@pregnantbee: yea i cant believe i survived without one last time!
coconut / 8472 posts
@Pirouette: Yup, exactly! They got rotated every day but it was easier to have two at a time at work than only ever have one. I think at one point I even stashed an extra set in my desk! Oh and I also had bags to pump into and the adapters for them and they lived in my pump bag, because every so often is forget pumping bottles.

@mrschickpea: I'm with you on the pad wearing. we are a month into allergy season here, and I'm dying. Every sneeze and most coughs are stressing my bladder. I worked so hard to get my pelvic floor back after my first birth, I'm amazed at how quickly everything went south.

@Pirouette: Honestly, I can't see me lasting as long this time BFing/pumping either. It was so draining, my output completely stressed me out, and it totally stalled my weight loss. It was just too big a strain. I don't know how long yet, but it definitely won't be anywhere near 10/15 months! (10 for pumping, 15 for BFing).
coconut / 8472 posts
@pwnstar: Whoa! That's amazing. I only made it 6 months pumping. My supply dried up and I was just exhausted by it.

Two pump sets is key!
Also you don't need to wash between sessions if you rinse or store in the fridge with the milk. I was pumping in just a conference room so I would wipe with a dry paper towel and then toss the parts bag in the fridge until the next session. I have my own mini fridge though.
I don't know if I will make it that long. I'm going to have to pump and do pick up and drop off. It's just going to make for really long days (I don't like leaving early when I'm taking 3 breaks). Time with my family may be more important than the ounces this time around. First time I pumped from 3-13 months and BF until 18months. Second time I pumped from 3-11 months and BF until 14 months.

@ShootingStar: I should have stopped much sooner. I was just too f*cking stubborn! My supply semi-tanked when I went back to work (and continued to get worse), and right before I went back I got thrush, so I had to toss what freezer stash I did have. I would get so anxious every day with how much I could pump and whether it would be enough. *augh* Never again!
pomegranate / 3331 posts
@ShootingStar: I pumped and then transferred to bags for ease of travel and storage. I'm definitely going to use your 2 set rotation this time!
@pwnstar: exactly, especially with another child! I pumped 11 months and nursed for 17 (only morning and night from around 13 months). But I had no other children to deal with!

I made it 18 mos pumping and bf but was an anxious pre-occupied wreck about it last time. Between washing bottles and pump parts, remembering to bring everything, spending about 2 hrs a day pumping at work and home, figuring out the fridge and freezer milk rotation, waiting on long naps and deciding to pump right before baby wakes (aaaah). It's so hard. I'm hoping I can do some sort of combo routine this time and take away some stress I felt last time.

@pregnantbee: Omg, closer to 25 than 24 weeks -- where has the time gone?! You look fabulous, I love that seafoam color!
grapefruit / 4717 posts
@MrsSCB: Awww, thanks. I can't believe it. Did the math the other day, and 24w = 6m which kinda blew my mind. Shirt is from Target

@pregnantbee: Wow-6 months already! Lookin good! I like the color too . . . it's very spring-y and happy!

My husband just told me he might go home early because he feels like he's getting a cold. Is it bad that my first thought was, "Ugh, please don't get me sick..." (which I did not actually say TO him). I hope neither of us are sick for our weekend getaway
grapefruit / 4717 posts
@pwnstar: Awww, thanks!
@MrsSCB: Nooo. That would have been my first thought, too. Stay away. Far far away. I hope you're not sick for SD.

@pregnantbee: you look great!!! OMG ALMOST 25 WEEKS?!
@MrsSCB: aww i hope everyone stays healthy!

@MrsSCB: My husband told me he thought he was starting to get sick last weekend and I told him I didn't want to hear it! lol To be fair we had a big weekend planned (it was my daughters birthday) and we had no time for sick! He was fine anyway.
@pregnantbee: So crazy!
pomelo / 5257 posts
@AprilFool: Lol I'm hoping it was just a temporary thing...or maybe allergies? I've heard the pollen is really bad around here these days!

@pregnantbee: Thanks for reminding me about calling insurance about breast milk pumps. How does it work? Does insurance send some gawd awful ugly one? Or do you get to pick from the store and get reimbursed? And great suggestion about putting a mini fridge in your office. I actually have one that I've been holding on to just-in-case and now might be a good reason to use it! And hey! Your bump looks great! I love a definitive baby bump.
@T.H.O.U.: Thanks for mentioning your preference for brestfriend over boppy. You made a good point. Too bad the brestfriend looks so much bulkier and the boppy looks like it serves a dual purpose by also being a place to prop the baby for a bit. But I'd hate to have bad posture while feeding.
@pwnstar: Please tell me how pumping stalled your weight loss. I thought that breastfeeding/pumping was supposed to help with weight loss!!!
@MrsSCB: I think the same sort of thoughts when my husband tells me he is getting sick. Me with a cold is very much different than him with a cold. I hope your husband is well for your weekend getaway!!

Also.. my bra... ugh. I really need to get a new one. I might take mine off right now. At work. With 1.5 hours left in my day. I'll just stay in my office. Or walk with my arms crossed high above my chest. Whatevs.
And I went to Pea in the Pod and freaked out. Don't like the selection but I did get a pair of pants for I don't know what purpose. I need work pants. These might be too sassy for work. But they are comfortable.

@agold: Haha, no problem. I'm not exactly sure how to get the pump through insurance, since I had to pay out of pocket at a store last time. I believe you call your insurance, and there are set options for what you get. They'll tell you all the details.
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@pregnantbee: Thanks. I'm really hoping its a "free" regular one that most girls buy at the store. (Is it freestyle or something like that?) I am picturing this large, loud off-white machine as what the insurance would give us.
grapefruit / 4717 posts
@agold: I think the insurance ones are usually pretty good -- Medela or Ameda or similar. Doesn't hurt to call them and start researching now. I have to call them, too!
pear / 1718 posts
@MrsSCB: No, it's not bad at all! I think the same thing with DH . . . "I pity the foo who gets me or my little sick!*
@agold: I reall don't know for sure. I lost some weight initially, but the last 15 or so lbs wouldn't budge until I fully weaned. Most women I know lost weight BFing, but it didn't happen that way for me. *shrug*
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@pwnstar: Ugh. I will probably be the same. The odd person who doesn't lose weight while breast feeding. What a bummer. But good for you for sticking to it as long as you did. You are a champ and no need to worry about doing it that long this time. Just do your best!
nectarine / 2591 posts
@agold: I didn't lose weight breastfeeding either despite doing weight watchers but feel it was more the mirena I had and then had taken out. Fingers crossed it's different this time.
pomegranate / 3331 posts
@agold: I don't know if every insurance is the same, but mine had an approved medical supplier and I had to get one of their options. They were good pumps, but it didn't include the freestyle as an option (back in 2013!) So I got a free Medela Pisa through insurance, which is a great pump but bulky and has to be plugged in. I left that at work and got the freestyle for home since it's much easier not having to be attached to an outlet at home. I walked to work so I really needed a dedicated work pump!
also re work pants, you might check gap or loft online. They don't have maternity in store but the sizes are pretty true to your typical size.
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@AprilFool: Fingers crossed for you - and me!! I woke up this morning just knowing I was heavier than yesterday. And yep - 1 extra pound today. I'm up almost 8 pounds which I think is okay, but I'm just at the halfway mark so I'm going to be trying not to gain too much. But I also am not working out much and am pretty much eating lots of snacks too. So I suppose I will get what I deserve! Breastfeeding better pull through for me on that end!
pomegranate / 3331 posts
Oh and re weight loss, I think some people hold on to some fat stores while nursing, and some dont. But that's the same as with all postpartum women - some bodies shed weight immediately and some dont!
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@Pirouette: Thank you for all of these tips!! I would definitely want one that does NOT have to be plugged in. I have a giant desk that blocks pretty much all plugs I know of in my office.
