@Pirouette: I can imagine that if I was having any stressful issues with my pregnancy, I wouldn't want to go either. Interesting point about booking with amex and being able to cancel if something comes up. I would use my amex for sure then, also. Thanks for the tip!!

@Aandmklover: very cute! Are both pieces from Target?
I tried on my bikini and it will work for this trip. I don't really have time to shop this week, so that's probably for the best! I may still get something with more coverage though, because I'm going to the beach with my family in May. I feel more weird about baring the bump to them than strangers for some reason
pomelo / 5257 posts
@agold: honestly, I'd want to go earlier. BUT I'm sure that's a personal choice! I'm traveling by airplane between 26 and 27 weeks and that will be the last long trip I think. If possible, I'd try to book a refundable trip!
kiwi / 506 posts
@MrsSCB: yes. I got the Top in store and the bottom through the Online target.

@agold: yup, I have 2 amex cards and both have that benefit! But of course it pays to check your specific card first just to be sure

@agold: I'd go the earliest you can. I think I did a 1-hr flight at around 32w and that was it.

@MrsSCB: Yep, I absolutely want to go earlier, also. Its just that there will be some people out there a little later that we would like to join.
@Pirouette: I absolutely will be checking out that benefit. I hope my card offers it!

You guys we are all half way! Some of us already hitting viability!

@MrsSCB: We took our babymoon at the 26 week mark last time. It was a two hour flight, and that was about all I wanted to do (the swelling was pretty hillarious!).

How is everyone doing/feeling? I feel like I am doing well for the most part . . . obviously some days are easier than others! I am pretty wiped out by 8:30/9, and the end of the week is definitely (physically) harder than the first part of the week. Other than some random pains and belly aches, and the suuuuuper full feeling I get at night when I eat (that takes f-o-r-e-v-e-r to go away), the swelling has been minimal (so far), and I do okay most days. I have been staying active and working out simply because I just feel better afterward. And I think it's helping to balance out the hormones some.
I also feel like I have been in nesting mode for a while (it didn't hit me until much much later with my first pregnancy) . . . finishing little projects around the house that I having been meaning to get to for ages now (like organizing bathroom cabinets and getting caught up/and staying on top of laundry, etc.), in addition to getting things rearranged and ready for this baby. I guess I just feel like I don't know how long I will continue to feel *good,* and I want to get as much done as possible in the meantime.

@pwnstar: TBH, I'm not doing great . I woke up last Friday with intense back pain, and it hasn't really resolved. Thanks to dr. google I've self-diagnosed myself with posterior pelvic pain. For anyone who's experienced SPD, it's like that but in the two joints in my back, plus muscle soreness.
I'm also kind of struggling with something else that I debated starting a thread on. With my son I experience some birth trauma. I had several rough procedures, including an awful foley bulb placement and a lot of painful cervical checks, and I now I can't stand for people to touch me. I had a panic attack at my last annual exam. And at my anatomy scan the MFM doctor wanted to do an internal exam and I refused and I thought she was pretty dismissive of my feelings. She also basically insisted I'd have to have a cervical check if I went into early labor and I've been kind of panicky thinking I won't make it to my scheduled c-section. IDK what to do about this and if it's something I should bring up with my regular OB.
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
@pwnstar: Agree with nesting mode! I am getting ready to schedule our weekends for May and want to leave some time for house projects! This weekend we updated our recessed lights to the LED natural daylight (more blue/white versus the yellow soft light) and it brightened up the room a lot!
@ShootingStar: Yes I would for sure start the conversation with your OB now. What about the Strep B test they do later in pregnancy, will you have to have that with the RCS?
coconut / 8472 posts
@T.H.O.U.: Technically it shouldn't be required, but my provider seems to like to do all sort of unnecessary crap. I may be able to handle that because it's super quick and not really much touching involved. I remember it last time taking about 3 seconds flat.
cantaloupe / 6059 posts
I feel like we're at the point of pregnancy where it just draaaaags along - hence why I haven't been around often. Just not a lot to share. The second trimester (particularly the second half of it) is always like this for me.
@pwnstar: I'm feeling rather well. I forget I'm pregnant half of the time until I look in the mirror. I have definitely been in nesting mode - I completely reorganized the pantry, the hall closet, and have been keeping my home so clean. It's absurd. I've started a list of meals I'd like to get into the freezer sometime during the third trimester. Otherwise, not a lot happening.
@ShootingStar: I'd start that conversation, absolutely. Hope you are able to avoid all checks. They are so unnecessary at this point, anyways, unless there is a clear cause for worry. It drives me crazy when providers act like their patients are just numbers and will shrug off our concerns (even emotional ones).
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
@ShootingStar: yea I don't recall it taking very long or being very invasive. But it's the only check I can think of that may be needed. Other than that I would think its all optional unless there was a cervix issue or something.
coconut / 8472 posts
@T.H.O.U.: She made it sound like if it was a pre-term labor situation they would "have" to so they would know if I was truly in labor. I'm not a doctor, but can't they just monitor the contractions? Maybe I will start a separate thread to get advice.
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@T.H.O.U.: This is so great to see!! I definitely feel so happy to have hit this half-way milestone.
@pwnstar: Was the swelling caused by your trip, or did you have it before you started your babymoon? When did it hit you?
@pwnstar: And I actually am feeling so great! I can nap with the best of them, but its not holding me back - just something I do when I get the time. Reflux/ heartburn/ whatever hit me hard a couple of days ago. I've NEVER had it before and its so odd and distressing. But I'm trying not to complain! And yikes! Nesting!! I have been avoiding it.
@ShootingStar: Oh no! I'm so sorry you are feeling this way. I don't know what say except that I really hope you can get this figured out. I hope you can enjoy this pregnancy. Talk to your OB about it! Good luck, dear.
pomegranate / 3331 posts
@pwnstar: I feel pretty much the same as you. I mean, physically, i'm doing pretty well, but by the end of the week, i'm pretty spent. This weekend, i was caught off guard by how exhausted I was, although it probably had more to do with caring for my sick family for the past 3 weeks than anything else! I literally craved the couch all weekend.
In other news, had my 20 week scan this morning! Baby is not the cooperative type - it took forever to get all the measurements and they kept making me get up and walk around, jump around, etc. he is a stubborn little boy! but the good news is so far he's measuring right on target - 53rd %ile. They still want me back in 4 weeks to continue to measure growth based on my history, but so far, he's doing well.
I'm starting to feel like I really need to name this baby. I'm trying not to think about names until DH and i sit down and go through the list, but I'm feeling like i need to name him so i can complete the connection. We named LO so much earlier, and I'm really missing that connection i felt after we'd named her. I'm hoping now that everyone's finally healthy, maybe we can talk about names a little this weekend before DH goes on his next work trip.

@ShootingStar: just responded to you on the other thread. I don't know much about how necessary various interventions are, but I hope your doctors respond to you sensitively regardless. And I'm sorry
It's a tough week here. My husband is working overnights which is the shittiest. We painted our bedroom this weekend, so I'm sleeping upstairs on the futon and my house is in totally disarray. My daughter was very sick on Sunday, and I got sick yesterday (today I'm feeling terrible). Plus she hasn't been sleeping well- I was up with her from 1-3 last night and she got up for the day at 5:30. She's a hot mess, and so am I.
I'm just trying to survive each day, and I hate feeling that way- like I'm wishing for time to move faster.
My husband is in the NICU this week and there were three micro preemies born which is super scary and I'm trying not to get anxious about it (anxiety about that kind of thing plagued me last pregnancy).
In good news: our glider was delivered and I love it! We are putting our room back together slowly this week, but soon I can figure out the size rug I need, and order a footstool.

@pwnstar: Just bought my compression socks yesterday for the two flights I still have left before August! I told my husband I'll be looking so cute on the airplane
And I'm doing pretty well. In the past couple weeks I've actually started to really FEEL pregnant. My belly is definitely growing and feels like it's starting to push my lungs up. I also suddenly just feel utterly exhausted at around three or four in the afternoon. I'm trying to still exercise but I've slowed down a bit. More like one day on and two days off. I also start out the day feeling a lot smaller than I end it, lol. By the end of the day I get that suuuuuper full, bloated feeling! Overall I feel good, though
@Pirouette: Yay for a good scan! I feel you on the name thing. We haven't settled on one yet. We have a frontrunner first name, and I have a favorite middle name, but DH doesn't love the middle...
@Silva: Sorry about the overnights, that's rough. We're soon going to be in the time of year when my husband is working crazy hours, not getting home until after midnight, working weekends, etc. I hate it in normal years, and I'm really dreading it this year. It won't really be over until June 23, blech.
@ShootingStar: sorry to hear you are struggling. I really hope that your doctors can respect what you've been through and your concerns and can work something out that will ease your mind.
pomelo / 5257 posts
Oh I do have a follow-up question to the how are you feeling talk, though. Is anyone else just really, really struggling to concentrate at work? I just can't seem to focus and my procrastinating is worse than usual. I have a huge story I need to write that really should be done already, and I haven't even written one word! So frustrating, I don't know where my mind has gone...
pear / 1718 posts
@ShootingStar: I don't know exactly what posterior pelvic pain is/feels like, but I went through well over 24 hours of back labor, so I really hope you can find ways to get relief.
@agold: I started swelling around 24 weeks last time, and it was manageable at first, but the swelling from the flight was other worldly . . . although I did start swelling like that on a daily basis around 30ish weeks. Good times!
@Pirouette: Wonderful update! Hooray for a great a/s! For me, naming this baby has really helped me bond with him. Hopefully you will have a chance to talk this weekend!
@Silva: DH has had a lull in his travel schedule, so I have been spoiled the past few weeks with seeing him more often and also him being home for bath/bed from time to time. I won't be as lucky from here on out . . . it's so hard to solo, especially overnight! We have also been made aware of several serious family/friend emergencies lately, and these events have made me irrationally anxious about things like DH not waking up from his sleep, or having a massive stroke, etc. Some days I just want to fast forward to August too.
@MrsSCB: I definitely feel--and look!--bigger by the end of the day. My attention span sucks ass, which is problematic with hard deadlines and lengthy conference calls . . . . I feel like a dog who sees squirrels everywhere (and always at the most inconvenient times)! Compression socks are zexxy . . . or at least I'm sure they are in your case!

@Silva: Sorry your husband is on overnights. (my husband works them and i actually like it! ) And oh gees.... I think about preemies all the time now!
@MrsSCB: Yes... no ability or desire to concentrate at work.
@pwnstar: The swelling sounds awful!

So let's talk about something fun - shopping! What else does everyone have left to buy?
We went to our consignment sale on Saturday and bought a ton of clothes from 6m-18m. I also got a few pairs of shoes in smaller sizes, including some Robeez with cupcakes that are super cute.
So I'm pretty much done shopping. I still want to get a bassinette and a new pump bag. But other than that, I think we're all set. Furniture is done, we have plenty of clothes (though I'll need some more 6m but I'll buy those later), and we have pretty much all the gear we need!
How about everyone else?

@ShootingStar: Fun topic!
I need a pretty canvas for over the crib. Crib sheets. Possibly new closet doors. And a new car! Everything else I will register for and hopefully get at my shower. And Ive been getting so many new or gently used clothes from my husband's friends' wives that I think baby girl may be set in that department.

@Silva: I work overnights but actually have gotten so used to them that I don't mind them as much. It will help with childcare since DH and I are on opposite shifts, but we still get the evenings together .
Oak and Ragweed rolled in here in the Hill Country so allergies have been kicking my butt since Friday Stuffed up nose, runny nose, and now the sneezing and coughing. Which of course, I'm now wearing a pad because depending on what position I'm sitting in, I'll pee when I sneeze! Guh!
My SIL had her baby girl yesterday which is exciting and we will be going to visit after our 2nd A/S in the morning tomorrow! So excited to meet her! I'll be making a breakfast basket today to bring them that should last a while with muffins, pancakes, bagels, juice, coffee and fruit!
And friend of mine came over while I was sick and sleeping and helped DH put together our closet organizer and move some furniture out of the nursery! So thankful as I've been wanting to get some things done in there. The closet is almost done and then I can start putting things away in there and start making my curtains! I don't think I'll be buying anymore clothes until after the birth but I'm on the lookout for more muslin swaddles!
I bought a couple maternity items from H&M after one of my brand new maternity shirts ripped randomly yesterday! I was so upset because it wasn't even because of size, it just ripped it a weird spot when I pulled it down over my jeans! I almost cried
@Pirouette: so glad you had a great ultrasound!
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
@ShootingStar: As you know I way over-shopped! But as a 3rd time mom we aren't doing any shower or anything. I'm glad your sale went well!
We went ahead and re-bought:
- Minicrib for our room (DS will stay in the crib in the nursery for a big).
- Activity Mat
- Swing
- Feeding seat (like a bumbo/seat high chair)
- RockNPlay
- Boppy pillow (I still have the Brestfried that I will use for nursing but this is good for tummy time, sitting etc)
Still need -
Baby bath tub
Car seat from a friend (she hasn't moved her daughter out of it yet)
Changing area set up for our room.
Clothes storage/organization

@pwnstar: Overall doing ok here, except for inconsistent groin pain that I don't remember having last time until much later. Guess my body knows what to do...and faster this time around! I hope not to get sick again before the end of this pregnancy because the last however many weeks were brutal.
I'm feeling the serious nesting bug at this point, too. Just had almost the whole interior painted. Baby's room is now a beautiful tan, as is the rest of the house. Now we just have to clear out a desk and a bunch of other things, and I'll be able to measure and buy what hopefully will fit! We're both also really into getting rid of as much clutter as possible at this point -- not my strength b/c I get so attached to everything. But I really want kind of a "fresh" start with the new baby.

@mrschickpea: I keep forgetting about maternity clothes!! I need them soon I think. So sorry your shirt ripped! Return it asap!

@ShootingStar: I'm sorry you're in so much pain. I think I experienced posterior pelvic pain around 19-20w when I was getting my anatomy scan. (Also self-diagnosed via Dr. Google.) It felt like my hips were going to break. I hope you can find some relief between now and delivery.
I'm sorry you had such an awful first birth experience. I think it's definitely worth bringing up to your dr. Maybe even consider seeing a therapist who specializes in post-birth trauma? May be worth several sessions for some professional help. No shame in that. xo
grapefruit / 4717 posts
@Pirouette: Hooray for a wonderful scan! Baby girl didn't cooperate all that well either, so it took forever to get all the measurements. I'm feeling similarly about needing a name. We have a finalist, but I'd kind of like a backup just in case she is born and truly doesn't look like the name we have planned.

@Silva: Oh my goodness, that sounds so tough for both you and your husband. Is he generally a NICU dr? That has to be so difficult. I hope you all feel better ASAP.

@MrsSCB: I'm having trouble concentrating on anything. My brain is mush, and I can't remember why I've walked into rooms or what my husband said 2 minutes ago. We had a meeting with our newborn photographer this morning, and I completely and utterly forgot about it until yesterday when the photographer emailed me. Then I forgot this morning that I had asked my husband to be available and attend with me. I truly thought I was meeting her on my own. It's so hard! I hope I can return back to normal soon post-partum....however I don't remember that happening for quite awhile. I used to forget a different pump part every day when going to work. Oops.

@pregnantbee: he's finishing up his residency done at the end of June, hallelujah). During residency he has rotated through specialties each month. This month is actually called "night float" so I think he does 2 weeks of NICU, 1 week of inpatient, and 1 week of home call. He's going into general outpatient peds, so beginning in July our lives and schedule will be way less crazy. And his work will be generally less intense!
The end just feels like it's dragging. I have not handled residency with grace. Some of the other partners handle it so well. Im all doom and gloom and pity party. I just hate how unbalanced our family life has become because of the insane hours he works.
/end rant. Sorry people have it way worse than us, obviously. I'm a big whiner about it. More so today because I feel like death.

@ShootingStar: Yay, shopping! You're so far ahead of the game
We need to buy:
- dresser
- cubed storage unit
- rug
- curtain rod
- probably more clothes, but I have to go through the girl clothes we got from a friend and align it by size, as well as pick through DS's old clothes to see what could work for baby girl, wash it, sort it, etc. I kind of assume the grandmas will go nuts with buying baby girl clothes
- diapers (we just do disposable)
- My Brest Friend (still have a Boppy from last time, but I'd really like to try this other one b/c I think my posture was terrible last time, and it caused major body issues, and I needed PT to fix it all)
- not sure what else
Have already bought:
- new changing pad since our old was a mess (we bought a Keekaroo Peanut)
- curtains
- canvas storage bins for the cubed storage unit
- uh, 3 new crib sheets, including a splurge on the one I fell in love with (We really need a heart eyes icon over here!)
- decorative pillow to use for my back when sitting on the La-Z-Boy for nursing
Planning to make:
- barrette/headband accessory holder (think picture frame with ribbons to hold clips and hooks to hold headbands. I happen to have just a wooden frame lying around, so I'm going to repurpose that by painting it, adding ribbon and hooks.
- some wall prints in addition to printing some cute free ones that I've seen linked on HB
Need to look into:
- free pump via insurance. I have no idea what they offer or how early I can get it. I already have a Medela Pump In Style Advanced from 4 years ago, but I want to take advantage of the free one so I can leave the old one at home and new one at work. I disliked carting the other back and forth.
Phew. Still a lot to get and do, but I'm really excited
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
@pregnantbee: Yes! I used the Boppy with my first because I just didn't really know better. I had huge issues getting her high enough to nurse (I have a long torso) and then spent lots of time hunched over for hours at a time with no lower back support. The BrestFriend was MUCH better. Plus it stayed attached if I needed to shift or reach to get something.
