August 2016 moms!

@pregnantbee: Fuck that noise! Seriously. Because you look awesome. And are handling pregnancy like a BOSS. And you better believe these douche nozels should be grateful that we pregos don't treat our pregnancy in kind, i.e., like it is *open season* on body commentary for the masses because . . . YEAH.

@LCTBQE: I have started doing the same thing . . . I passed a mail carrier yesterday who asked when I was due. When I told her August, she winced and said you're gonna be so hot. I just smiled right back at her (a smile so big it damn near hurt my face . . . a huge break from my typical BRF!) and said . . . maybe, but I'm lovin' every minute of it! So. In betting terms, I'll see your *hot* and raise you *fucking fabulous.*

@LCTBQE: For several reasons (mostly related to complications I had during my first pregnancy), I have been having regular growth scans (20, 24, 28 weeks); I have another next week at 30 weeks, then 32, and then growth scans and NSTs every week from 34 to the end (I can't remember when they pick up to twice a week, but yeah, so.many.tests/appointments!, much like @ShootingStar: ).

@LCTBQE: your experience with the paige jeans. Which do/did you have? I was really regretting not ordering online the paige jeans that have the low waist with elastic only on the sides. I have the AG "super skinny leggings" jeans that I wear normally. They said to get in your normal size. But they bunch at the zipper when I sit and slide down when I walk. Is this normal of maternity jeans? Should I keep them and expect to fill them out more? What should I do?!?!

Thanks for all of your awesome comments, everyone. Just had an u/s to check growth, and thankfully she is only measuring about a week ahead and not the 5 my dr got as a fundal measurement 2 weeks ago. Phew. Dr. isn't concerned at all. There's plenty of fluid, I'm on track for weight gain. Baby girl is also head down now, so let's hope she stays that way!

@MrsSCB: Phew. I definitely worried about it, too, even though she had already told me not to. Yeah, so I'm pretty much not worrying about those measurements again.

Ah ha! I got my first "Wow, you're gonna be hot this summer!" comment. My reply: "Good thing I have A/C everywhere I go. And at least I'm not due in October (tends to be much hotter in Sept and Oct here)."

@pregnantbee: your first one?! have you been living under a rock?! haha i feel like it's all anyone wants to talk about with me.

ladies, how did you feel after your glucose screening? I know I went to work after last time but can't remember if i felt light headed, needed to eat more, or what. I have it on monday and am in the process of scheduling some important meetings so i just want to know if I should block off monday in case i feel sick (I'm thinking yes).

@Pirouette: I went to get some food afterwards but for the most part after an hour or so I was fine at work.

@Pirouette: I was fine after the 1 hour but totally crashed after the 3 hour (which is 2x as much sugar stuff)

  17. Pirouette

    pomegranate / 3331 posts

@T.H.O.U.: @Aandmklover: thanks for the input. it's just the 1 hour, but I guess i'm just a little paranoid because I do tend to get lightheaded from sugar sometimes. I'm really anxious to set up this meeting, but also think it's probably best to put it off a day just in case.

  18. T.H.O.U.

    wonderful clementine / 24134 posts

@Pirouette: Yea I was afraid about getting lightheaded too. I mostly got the sweats. Luckily there is a McDonalds right next to the blood place. I didn't really trust myself to drive without eating some food so I stopped there and sat down before heading on into work.

  19. Pirouette

    pomegranate / 3331 posts

@T.H.O.U.: yea the sweats is another thing I was thinking about since i'd have to put on a suit in the summer heat! last time i made my husband come with me and we went to a nearby diner after for food. but since i have my growth scan the next day and want him to come to that, I'm gonna be a big girl and do this one on my own haha. and probably take a cab to work after.

@Pirouette: Mine was pretty much a nonevent. I didn't get any funny feeling from it and went to work just fine. Good luck!

@pregnantbee: So true that California October can be the hottest month of all. September for sure.

@Pirouette: I felt fine. I was pretty hungry though, and wish I'd brought a snack!

  22. pwnstar

    pear / 1718 posts

@Pirouette: I felt fine after the 1 hour test; but my numbers were really low, which helped me to feel pretty normal, I think . . .? I think how you feel afterward depends on how your body respond to the test. Also, mine was not a fasting test, so I ate about 1.5-2ish hours before the draw. I think that helped too.

  23. Pirouette

    pomegranate / 3331 posts

@agold: @Silva: @pwnstar: i guess i feel a little silly for making a fuss over it since it seems like no one had issues, but i decided better safe than sorry, and just told them i cant meet Monday. I feel more comfortable going to work and having a normal day. Thanks for the input!

  24. pwnstar

    pear / 1718 posts

@Pirouette: Making a plan is nothing to feel silly about! And besides, alleviating anxiety is always a good thing . . . way too much of that floating around!

  25. Pirouette

    pomegranate / 3331 posts

@pwnstar: yes, for sure! that's definitely my motivation. I'm going to inevitably be anxious about the glucose test, and also about the meeting...probably best to separate the two and not create more stress for myself!

  26. OldpuebloJenn

@Pirouette: I totally fussed over how I'd feel after the test, cause I felt so bad last time. My friend with type 1 diabetes have me some tips- but mostly I just gorged on high protein foods immidiatky after the last blood draw. Like the tech was putting on the bandage and I was scarfing a turkey and cheese wrap!
I felt great this time around, and any time I felt "crashy" I'd hit some protein- hard boiled eggs, bean salad, etc.

@mossyslane: @agold: - thanks for the tips on iron! @mossyslane: I'm already taking a thyroid med on an empty stomach, so my midwife suggested a liquid supplement I can take with food. Hopefully it helps. I *have* been feeling tired but sheesh, I'm almost 30w, with an almost 4yo and its 108 degrees, I didn't think I'd be flush with energy!

@Pirouette: I felt totally fine after the 1 hour screening and went back to work. After the 3 hour test I had a headache and was hungry and it was noon on a Friday so I felt like I deserved to make it an all day sick day :).

  29. agold

    grapefruit / 4045 posts

@MrsBeluga: OMG. After sitting a blood draw lab for three hours for a stupid glucose test, I would also take an entire sick day! Glad you did that for yourself!

  30. Pirouette

    pomegranate / 3331 posts

@OldpuebloJenn: yes that will totally be me... Snacking while they are completing the cleanup lol! Yea I suspect I'll feel ok generally, but thought I might be prone to some crashy moments throughout the day, which is why I was worried about meetings I can't interrupt to scarf down food!

@MrsBeluga: Um, if I have to do the 3 hour, you guys are all going to have to fly in and hold my hand! I'll definitely be freaking out.

Im due July 16, and this is my first.
It's a girl and we couldn't be more excited! Her name is going to be Ashlyn Rebecca(:
I've stayed sick the ENTIRE pregnancy so I'm pretty ready for her to be here!
    Thanks for being so welcoming

@pregnantbee: hi, wonderful news about baby girl's growth and thanks for letting me know, everyone, about your scan schedules--sounds like maybe the extra monitoring isn't necessarily done but complications are common enough that a lot of people do get it. just grateful it's all been good news on this board lately. and OMG still can't believe we're all in the third tri now, it's HAPPENING.

@Pirouette: I felt gross and kind of off after my glucose test and totally agree with @pwnstar: about alleviating any tiny source of stress where possible, good move

@pregnantbee: I had a fundal measuring me 5 weeks ahead too at 27w! I had a growth scan and baby is now measuring on track here at 31 weeks and is 3.5lbs I saw a midwife for this last appointment and was not a fan of her. I was shamed for my last fundal measurement being because of my pre-pregnancy BMI? Though now I'm measuring on track now and was at 24w as well so that really can't be possible. And tack on the 4lbs I gained in 3 weeks (also shamed and told to cut down the carbs) She just wasn't very tactful in her delivery and it made me feel bad

@mrschickpea: Ugh. Too late to change to a different one? Not cool.

@pregnantbee: luckily it's an OB/midwife practice and I just see all of them once since they are all on call for different days of the week for delivery. This was the first one I didn't particularly care for I will be delivering at the hospital across the street so will only have one of the OB's anyways and I've liked all of them so far.

  36. pregnantbee

    grapefruit / 4717 posts

@mrschickpea: Ok, phew. I'm at an all OB practice, and it's luck of the draw for 1 in 17! I really didn't like the OB who delivered my son so I'm really hoping I don't get him again. There's also another I'd prefer not to have. It's weird in that we only ever see our own OB for appointments, so I've never met the others.

Second or third time moms, are you having a sprinkle or a sip and see?
My dear friend just offered to host either event for me, and I'm thinking of taking her up on the sip and see. I know sprinkles are supposed to be smaller, which is my preference anyways as I have a few good girlfriends, my concern is that none of my friends are friends- not enemies, they are all from different parts of my life. So a sprinkle seems like it would be 5-7 of us awkwardly getting to know each other (and high stress on me, feeling I need to connect everyone), where as a sip and see (healthy mom and baby willing) will be open house style, casual, fun and showing off the baby. (Additionally- not that I expect gifts, but being team green, a s&s allows those who wish to gift us something, a little more direction as to what to buy, i.e. clothes for baby boy.)
Any thoughts? (And yes, I'm posting this at 3:47am. Damn pregnancy insomnia strikes again).

@OldpuebloJenn: for our second we were team green and did a meet the baby. It worked out great and we had a blended group of friends there. We got lots of little boy clothes!

  39. pwnstar

    pear / 1718 posts

@OldpuebloJenn: One of our friends wants to throw us a shower/sprinkle. We don't really want one. BUT. Sometimes an event like a sprinkle/birthday party makes it easier for people to get together in that it's not just a regular party, if that makes sense (and we would love to have an excuse to get everyone together). So we're going to let her call it what she wants, but we're still trying to figure out a way to tell everyone not to bring gifts. It's a bit of a sticky wicket. We certainly don't want anyone to think we expect gifts!

  40. Silva

    cantaloupe / 6017 posts

@OldpuebloJenn: I don't think we are. Some of my mom friends are having me out to dinner, and per our tradition I suspect I will be given some gift certificates. A few weeks after the due date my mom is having a big party for my dads sixtieth, so I think people will meet the baby then.
I like the idea of a sip and see...I think people like to celebrate babies, and it can be a fun way to get people together and reconnect during what will likely be a bit of a busy time....
If someone offered to host I'd probably take them up on it, but I don't think it's super common around here, so I doubt it.
