@pregnantbee: I'd only ever gotten them on the inside of my elbow before, and my vein always collapsed after a little while. It was always super uncomfortable. So when I told the nurses that, they said they would do the heat pack first and then they put it in my forearm, and it was shocking how easy it was. It never bothered me at all. I had it for a long time too, because of the induction turned c-section.

OMG. I hate a needle in my hand.
@MrsSCB: I'm so sorry you got rear ended! I think its great you are being checked out, though. Better safe than sorry. How do you feel? Did you have a carseat in your car at the time of the accident?

I was just popping in to say I got my IV on the back of my forearm for my second delivery. I plan to ask for the same this time. They had to send someone from the "old people bad veins" floor to get it but I knew I wanted it and that it would be much more comfortable. So please ask if you would like it in a different spot. I hated it in my hand.
@MrsSCB I hope you're feeling well and the baby is doing good!! What a way to spend the day.

I blame @Aandmklover: for this Target spree! I didn't get quite the same deal b/c they were all out of the 100 count sizes. But I think I still did pretty well! $10 giftcard for each 2 boxes (got 2 NB, 2 1s, 2 2s), $25 giftcard for spending over $150 on baby stuff, 10% Pampers diapers and wipes. Now I'm exhausted!

@agold: I feel fine! They let me leave around 3. Contractions didn't really stop, but I let them know that's not new, that I've been having some mostly in the afternoons, but they're not painful. So they said to just come back if that changes. Overall, everything looked great and the doctor said the baby got an A+
Also, I came back to work, because it's just down the street. Right after I got to my desk, my boss called me (she works in another building). I answered the phone, "Hi!" and she just said, "Go home!" I was like, "Are you just calling to check on where I am?" haha. I just have a couple things to do, and I'm actually kind of tired of lying down!
@pregnantbee: that looks awesome, I need to hit up Target! We have like...two or three packs of diapers and I forget what size they are....

@pregnantbee: I did the same thing at lunch! I think it adds up nicely! About $150 spent and $55 back for 6 boxes of diapers and some wipes.

@Aandmklover: Thank you for motivating me, as well!! I downloaded the cartwheel app and last night I went to target and bought an ergo 4 position carrier (15% off with registry completion plus $30 gift card); and 4 boxes of $24.99 diapers and two boxes of wipes (all with the 15% off registry completion discount PLUS 10% cartwheel app and received $20 card card). I would have gotten 5% on top of all of that if I used my red card, but I had gift cards already in sufficient amounts to cover what I bought. I feel like I scored! Thanks for the heads up!

Does anyone know anything about Pampers' points program? I saw a friend at Target last night and she told me to sign up and submit my receipt and get points. I downloaded the Pampers app, but I'm so illiterate at those kinds of things.

A little late but adding:
1) Have you discussed what your parenting style will be like (particularly for newborns)? Anything you swear you won't do? Sleep routines, feeding, etc? We have an Ergo and a new Pocket Pouch thing, and I will wear the LO as much as possible. He can eat as much as he wants. The only thing we are changing is that this kid will sleep or cry himself to sleep in his bassinet or crib before he makes his way into our bed. While I don't mind our 2.5 yr old cosleeping with us (she really loves it so we've both gotten on board and realize it just a short phase), it scared me to death that I was going to smother her the entire first year. This kid can join the family bed if he wants on his first bday :0.
2) Anyone have plans for their maternity leave? How do you think you'll spend your days? I am working from home 20 hrs/week beginning 2 weeks before my due date (my last day in the office is 7/22), and taking 9 weeks off after birth (basically all of August and September). DH is still working, we have our 2.5 yr old (who is staying at preschool), and I committed to working 8-12 hrs/week from home, so I imagine it will be extremely busy. When I go back to work in October (heading back 4 days a week) DH is then taking 4 weeks of paternity leave. He gets to take 4 weeks off completely and literally unplug from work, and I am pretty jealous :).
3) Does your doctor do internal checks and will you get them? Starting in what week? They dont do them unless you ask. I am only going to ask if we get to 40 weeks and induction talk rears its ugly head again.

@T.H.O.U.: Well, they were out of the size boxes that were $24.99, so I bought the more expensive boxes that have more in them per box. Not sure the deal I got was quite as great.
kiwi / 506 posts
@pregnantbee: yay! I'm so glad it worked out for you. In all honesty I ended up with one 34.99 box of diapers because they were or if the 100 count 24.99 ones. Gotta make due with what's available. It feels good to be stocked up.
@agold: yay! We loved our ergo but have now started using Tulas. I love that the 360 can forward face. We baby wear a lot in our house so I hope you enjoy it as well.
I just got the Tula infant insert today and a couple of wet bags. Every time I tell my husband I got somethings he just rolls his eyes at me. Lol

@Aandmklover: haha thanks for your honesty! I still think it's a good deal. Have to add up just the diapers and see. I needed all the other stuff I bought anyway....ahem, chips and dip, ahem.....

@T.H.O.U.: I just saw you did it at lunch too! Seriously such a good deal!!
My grandma called me to come over and she was all excited because she got me two boxes of 1's and got the $10 gift card. So I have 2 more boxes to my bunch.

I had my 34w appt this morning, felt great, baby sounded and was measuring great. I ran some errands afterwards with DD, her bday is Sunday, so prepping for her party.
Now- I feel like absolute sh*t. And have for 3+ hours. I admittedly didn't eat the best breakfast, and when we got home I was already feeling yucky, so I rested before I ate lunch. I've rested, napped, had water and nothing has helped. I'm not as much contracting as my belly is already end of day hard. I'm now so nauseous I can't even think about water. I know I should call the midwives, but I don't think I'll be able to talk without crying. So I'm just complaining here instead.

@OldpuebloJenn: Hugs. I'm sorry you're feeling so awful. Yup, call the midwives.

@OldpuebloJenn: So sorry you're feeling yucky. I had a similar turn to the day and my stomach feels all out of sorts now, too. Hope you feel much better soon--we're on the home stretch...

@OldpuebloJenn: I'm sorry to hear that. Call your midwives just to let them know what's going on. I feel similarly today---sweaty, nauseated, hard as a rock belly . . . I had a migraine earlier today that totally took its toll.
@MrsSCB: So glad to hear everything is okay!

@pregnantbee: @mossyslane: @pwnstar: thanks girls. Midwife had me go to the hospital. I was contracting and 1cm dilated. They got me started on IV fluids and zofran for my nausea. That calmed my contractions, but baby's heart beat went through the roof, lingering at 180 for a few hours. That apparently can be a sign of impending illness for mom, but all my bloodwork/cultures look great. After lots of fluid, baby calmed down, not without turning breech first.
I got home at 2am. I'm waiting for the pharmacy to open in 20 minutes to go pick up my zofran script- the nausea is back, but I'm super happy to be home.

@OldpuebloJenn: Wow! I'm glad you were able to get some fluids and meds to get things to calm back down!
pear / 1718 posts
@OldpuebloJenn: Oh wow - I'm so glad you got checked out and that you're feeling better. You mentioned that your belly felt tight, but that you didn't think you were contracting before you went in? I have been telling DH that my belly is so tight at night (and sometimes during the day too) that I don't think I would be able to tell whether or not I was contracting.

@OldpuebloJenn: oh dear! glad you're home now and getting rest. Hope the zofran brings more relief, too, and that things calm down. What a crazy turn of events after your appt!

@pwnstar: you'll know when they are true contractions! The end of day tightness is normal. These registered low on the monitors, but due to my other symptoms, they were cause for concern.

@pregnantbee: @agold: Thanks lovelies! *smooches*
@pregnantbee: You look fantastic - hope you are feeling good too! I am pretty much in the *over it* camp at this point . . . super happy to have my little guy with me 24/7, but so tired of the constant pillow shuffling, having to pee every time I stand up, and the resurgence of nausea/heartburn/headaches . . . !

@pregnantbee: @pwnstar: looking good, ladies, I love comparison shots! Crazy how fast these little ones grow.
I took this silhouette photo last week at 33 weeks with the help of an online tutorial, haha.

@MrsSCB: OMG. I LOVE this picture. You look absolutely amazing. Where did you take this picture at? Can you share what you did to create it?
kiwi / 595 posts
@coopsmama: I do have a bit of a stomach bug today, so that might have been what baby's heart rate was predicting? The midwife said that when baby's heart rate climbs like that that it's often a precursor to an illness in mom. ETA: but most likely dehydration. We were in high altitude over the weekend, and then returned to 105 temps, and I just didn't keep up on hydration as best as I could.
@agold: I'll try to get baby to flip. Once my midwife clears me, I'll go to a Webster chiropractor who is trained in helping flip babies. If that doesn't take, I'll explore external version, which is done in a hospital with a OB and often a sedative to relax the uterus to flip baby.
Thanks gals for all your well wishes today!

SO, I've called 3 different medical supply companies that my insurance provider gave me, and it pretty much looks like my best option for a free pump is the Medela PISA (Starter Model 57081). (I have one from 4 years ago -- and all the accompanying accessories including extra shields, membranes, bottles, etc.)
I had been hoping that I could pay a little extra to get the Medela Freestyle, but I just don't think that's an option when going through insurance. And I don't think I want to buy it completely on my own since I do already have a pump.
The other potential options:
- Ameda Purely Yours Ultra (had heard not good things)
- Spectra S2 Plus
- Freemie Hands Free Standard Pump
- Hygeia Q Breast Pump
I think that's it. Do you think I'm choosing the right one? Anyone have any experience with the others?
Thanks!
