@ShootingStar: So tmi but everytime I got out of the bed to use the bathroom I peed half of what was intended for the toilet all over the floor. Thanks 3rd degree tear! So imagine with a 4th degree bowel incontinence tear. And day in and day out with healing ladies. You can wash anything but it was the nurses who were like if you don't need it or aren't attached why risk potential bacteria going home with you.

@agold: I'm bringing our old boppy. I would think if u have a super cute boppy cover or one that was pricey to maybe consider leaving it at home and just using a regular pillow or a hospital pillow.

@agold: I don't think u need a nursing cover, other moms can weigh in, but for me it was super helpful to see what we and baby were trying to do. We really limited our visitors so I didn't need to worry about nursing in front of family just yet.

@MRSWHIT1: Hope your induction went/is going smoothly!

@Aandmklover: Very exciting! Looking forward to updates!

Cannot believe babies are starting to come now! This year is going so fast.
38 weeks today and still feeling pretty good. BP continues to surprise me and is staying normal, OB is happy to let me go to 41w if bp, placenta, and fluid all stay normal. (I have a quick US at every appt to check). I don't think baby is in any rush to get here- I feel the same physically as I did at 30 weeks. Fine with me, I'm enjoying the last few weeks of quiet time with DH.

@OldpuebloJenn: I'm doing cats and cows like I'm trying to qualify for an Olympic event! I had started doing them to encourage baby to not be posterior . . . so I am just continuing the process. He finally settled on transverse last night, and then flipped back to breech this morning. And. OMG that was intensely uncomfortable for a minute. As much as I would prefer him to be head down, I will take breech over transverse just from a comfort standpoint!

@MrsBeluga: thank you. I'm leaving boppy and nursing cover at home. I always ask my mom things, like "mom, should I bring the boppy to the hospital?" And she responds, "Good Lord; what is a boppy? Do you think I had a boppy with me when I delivered you?"

Has anyone here ever delivered 8 days late? If I can keep this baby in until Sept 1, it changes th kindergarten gameplay.

@pwnstar: Wow! Thats crazy you can feel him flipping around like that!

DD enjoyed "reading" with the baby last night. She was laughing every time the baby was kicking and rolling around with us in bed.

@agold: I think 8 days late (41w1d) is perfectly normal range for delivery still! I'm actually hoping baby comes at like 38 weeks or 40 weeks. We are super busy my 39th week.

I will be the dissenting voice here though and say that a boppy or Brest Friend was WONDERFUL for nursing in the hospital. I 100% will not leave home without mine although I do think some hospitals have some on hand if you need them. The extra pillows and such are so thin they dont provide enough support for a mom breastfeeding. Basically you have to have one hand on your breast and one hand on the back of the baby's head/neck so you dont really have a hand to "hold" the baby and the weight of the baby's body needs to be supported by a pillow of some sort.

I had dreams of breastfeeding while reading a book or sipping water. It was a 2 handed sport for the first 6 weeks.

@agold: I went 13 days late with my second and chose to be induced then, so who knows when I would've actually delivered had we kept waiting.

@pwnstar: This baby was lying transverse earlier in the pregnancy (28-30 weeks) and that was already uncomfortable enough! I can't imagine adding a couple weeks to that. Hope your baby flips head down soon.

@coopsmama: wow! 13 days late! So 8 is within the range of possibilities.

@T.H.O.U.: wow. That sounds so tough and not what I imagined! I guess I don't mind having the boppy in the room so much as the actual act of walking it into the hospital. I'm a very light traveler and all these hospital "bag" lists seem more like hospital "multiple bag" lists. How do you bring all of this stuff into the hospital?? A full size suitcase? I was thinking more like my large weekend tote bag.

  19. coopsmama

    cantaloupe / 6059 posts

@agold: Yeah, if your provider will let you 8 is definitely within the range of possibility. I actually was only 4 days late with my first so the second one being super late was incredibly surprising.

  20. T.H.O.U.

    wonderful clementine / 24134 posts

@agold: We did a rolling suitcase plus the diaper bag plus some stuff in a tote. The diaper bag and tote did't have to come in until the very end though (like after we had delivered and were in our recovery room).

Yea, that was the biggest shocker for me with BFing. I thought it was going to be this relaxing, calm time, and for the first 6 weeks it was a lot of work and requires both hands.

Also so many things we have my mom didn't have either. She was amazed when she saw how nice the pump was compared to when she went back to work.

@agold: Some of those lists are crazy. Did you see the one I posted? Someone else re-posted it too. It's a pretty pared down list of things we actually used the first time. If you want to pack light, definitely find out what your hospital provides. I didn't need underwear (thanks to the giant mesh ones the hospital provides), pads, breast pads, baby clothes, diapers or swaddle blankets.

But we did use the boppy plus our own pillows.

@agold: as long as my baby flips-I'll be birthing at a birth center, which means I'll only stay between 4-12 hours after the birth. And I'm bringing my boppy.

  23. agold

    grapefruit / 4045 posts

@T.H.O.U.: My mom actually didn't breast feed either me or my sister! I will have to ask her why again, but I think she said it wasn't really a popular choice and something she thought that only hippies did. But don't quote me. I will find out from her again why she didn't.

And so it seems that the boppy is really a popular choice! Maybe I will get a different cover that I don't care about for the hospital. We are planning to bring pillows but we bought some cheapies that we will throw away after our stay. I just think of all of the people who deliver babies without making any sort of preparations. I'm actually pretty low maintenance in a lot of respects. I don't know the difference right now between what I need and what I don't need so I just assume go without in a lot of circumstances. But I know my reality is going to come crashing down on me very quickly!! I'm totally laughing at the thought of bringing a rolling suitcase to the hospital. Is it crazy that i want to go sit in the lobby of the hospital and watch and see what people bring in with them?!?! I'm only half serious. But when I go for my next monitoring, I'm going to for sure ask the hospital what is provided and what they suggest I bring.

  24. T.H.O.U.

    wonderful clementine / 24134 posts

@agold: Have you done a hospital tour? They should go over what the hospital supplies and what you should bring.

Yes, you may want a second cover anyways to have a spare for spit up etc.

  25. agold

    grapefruit / 4045 posts

@T.H.O.U.: No, I haven't done a tour. But that just might be a reason for me to want to do one, now. I don't care about actually "touring" the hospital. But I would now like to know what they suggest I bring to the hospital. If i can't find out informally at my monitoring appointment, I will figure out how to squeeze in a tour with my mom or sister.

  26. T.H.O.U.

    wonderful clementine / 24134 posts

@agold: Yes, our tour was great for questions like that. Also just general questions about what food can you bring, how do visitors check in, is there a mini fridge in each room, where do the babies go for shots, etc etc.

  27. agold

    grapefruit / 4045 posts

@T.H.O.U.: Oh I know we can bring any food! I have brought champagne and champagne glasses for every baby I know born there!! Do some hospitals limit the food or whatever that you bring in there? But still... I'm thinking I want the hospital tour specifically for finding out about the "hospital bag"! Ha!

OK, I'm tired of researching breast pump options. I'm now back to thinking about just getting the Medela PISA. It seems like all places only offer the starter kit (no battery pack, no extra bottles, no ice pack) except one. That other company charges $119 to upgrade to the "tote" instead of just the starter kit. I already have all the accessories since I had bought the same pump out of pocket 4 years ago. Worth another $119 to upgrade for everything to be new? Or just get the free "starter kit?" Annnnd, go!

@T.H.O.U.: It's really crazy - my first never moved like this! And wow is it painful/uncomfortable . . . the Peri estimated his weight at 5lbs 14oz (which, obviously, could be smaller and likely is), so there is a lot of baby flipping around in there. Currently, it feels like he is diagonal across my belly with his head under my right ribs, bum down and to the left, and his feet within perfect striking distance of my bladder. It is super uncomfortable, and I am really having trouble concentrating on work (which was already an issue before now!).

    wonderful clementine / 24134 posts

@pregnantbee: What parts do you have from last time? I didn't think my bottles held up well after being used and washed a ton for a year of pumping. So I did replace those. Battery pack, probably not necessary.

Had my appt this morning. Baby, fluid, and placenta all looked good on the ultrasound, and they did the swab for GBS.
Baby is head down, but in the left occipital transverse position (so kind of looking toward my hip). Doc said its good, but they can slip into posterior from that position, so I'm going to start doing some stuff to try to get it to roll forward. Walking, time on all fours (I just weeded for almost an hour!), going to try a figure-8 thing for relaxing the back/pelvis I saw on spinning babies, and more time on the yoga ball (which we just blew up).
My best friend, who was a midwife, keeps telling me that even if baby goes posterior my labor could be a lot different this time since it's my second. But I'd rather do what I can to help it get into optimal position. Plus, it gives me something to focus on.

Oh, some friends got me a massage, so I'm going to try to schedule that soon too.

@dcw6411: ugh I just had a friend go through that - false labor for 2 weeks!! But she ended up with a really wonderful, quick birth when the time came.

I never had many/any contractions with my second (and had just a few with my first) and I'm already having an hour or two of semi-painful Braxton hicks every night with this babe. I'm hoping that doesn't mean false labor is in my future here soon!

@Silva: Yay, glad all looks good. I hope baby stays in the right position for you. I know that baby girl is head down but I'm also pretty sure she is face up, too. Eek. Will be working to help her get in a better position....too bad bed is so comfy

@coopsmama: I feel your pain -- I'm getting a ton of BH at about the same time every day (basically at the end of my work day) that are getting increasingly uncomfortable. I don't really have them on the weekend, so I'm not sure what it is about work that's bringing them on. But not cool!

@Silva: a massage will be amaaaazing! I've had one prenatal massage, a little over a month ago, and I scheduled my second (and last) for just over 36 weeks. I can't wait! Also, I'm glad everything seems good so far. I think my guy is in a very similar position, or at least was last week. Getting a lot of feet shoved into ribs/my side these days...I'm interested in what they say about his position next week.

@dcw6411: sorry about the false labor! How does that differ from BH? More painful/more frequent? I'm worried I'll end up being that lady that goes to the hospital multiple times thinking she's in labor...

Bought a bunch of stuff for Prime Day today! I got our Britax travel system on sale, and then a couple hours later I got a notification that someone bought it off our registry (I left it on...just in case). I must have put that energy out in the universe, haha -- pretty sure it was my ILs who purchased. Luckily there was time to cancel my own order. We're pretty excited, it's very generous of them to get it!
