August 2016 moms!

I had my regular 36 week appointment today. Baby girl is doing well! I got a peek on the ultrasound and saw her sweet head and hands. I can't believe I'm only four weeks from due date - that is CRAZY.

Also had the GBS swab....such fun.

@coopsmama: Thanks for the interesting tid bit re: first time moms! I'm really just not ready for baby to come ANY time soon. Maybe if my work wasn't such a time suck.. but I need to still get things in order before she comes.

When I got to work, my boss asked me if I was feeling okay because I looked pale! Maybe I was contemplating baby girl coming early!!

  3. coopsmama

    cantaloupe / 6059 posts

@agold: I understand that completely! That was me with my second. It was just NOT a good time to have a baby and thankfully she complied (probably due to my frame of mind during the time, honestly) by coming two weeks late via a swift, easy induction. My sister got engaged literally ON my due date and was getting married in only six weeks and she asked me to be the maid of honor so it was a rush to get everything done. Those two weeks were super valuable and I felt like I wasn't ready until the moment we left for the hospital.

I hope work starts to wind down and get a little more relaxing for you so you can enjoy these last weeks before baby.

@coopsmama: Wow! That was a lot going on for you around your baby's due date!! Funny how the timing of things generally always work themselves out for the better. And yes... its totally within my own control to get my work things in order. I just need to be working a little harder! Maybe today's appointment was just the motivation I needed.

@agold: I agree that motivation (and physical strength) to complete work is tough! I think I'm going to need a mental health day soon. I'm keeping a running list of things that need to be done before I leave to try to stay motivated.

@T.H.O.U.: @agold: @coopsmama: The first time around, all I wanted was for my son to stay put through my birthday (he was due 6 days after and arrived 8 days after). I felt like I had so so much to do between leave and baby, and I felt like I was staring down the barrel of a huge permanent change. This time, I feel more ready. Her room is pretty much done. I will rely on friends, husband, and Trader Joe's for food. I'm uncomfortable enough that I feel done. I think I'd still like her to stick for another week, but otherwise I'm much more ready. I'm actually pretty excited at this point and can't believe I'm already staring down almost 38w!

@pregnantbee: Kinda random - but what do you like to get from TJ's? We have one nearby and never shop there because I don't know what to get. When my parents visited last time they got all sorts of random stuff there. Most of it I couldn't eat much of though, like cinnamon graham crackers and cookie butter, lol.

I'd love baby girl to come either part way through 37 weeks (3 weeks from today-ish) or part way through 38 weeks. 38 weeks on the dot is DH's birthday, so my big hope is that she just doesn't come on that day. And I'd be thrilled to not have to wait until my scheduled c-section. And at 37 weeks I'm planning on starting to work from home. So I'd get a little bit of rest time.

I had my 34 week appointment today and an NST and things got a little crazy later in the day. The appointment seemed fine at the time. But then they called at 3:30 and said DD was *too* active and they hadn't gotten a good baseline. They wanted me to come back tonight for another one 😣. Meanwhile I live 40 minutes from the hospital without traffic. And I was exhausted because I was running around half the day. I had the poor nurse apologizing saying it was her fault and offering to buy us dinner. And I asked if I could go in tomorrow and the nurse said the midwife said she really preferred me coming in tonight. I eventually got to talk to my OB to figure out why it was so urgent, and she said she thought baby was fine and just happy and active. *Phew*.

@ShootingStar: Uh....the question is more like what DON'T we buy? Search HB bc there are tons of threads about what to buy. Here's just a sampling of what we get:

Frozen chicken drumellas (aka chicken nuggets that DS loves)
"Strawberry walked into a bar" and other flavors (like nutrigrain bars)
Frozen brown rice that takes 3 min to heat in microwave
    Squeezable yogurt (for DS)
Frozen Popsicle bars (Caribbean flavor, strawberry, lime, etc)
Pre-cooked pulled chicken or beef - just heat and serve
Pre-marinated brisket that you just brown on the outside and stick in a crockpot
Various frozen pizza, including appetizer-sized ones that DS likes. Easy to microwave.
Indian Frozen dinners - they are amazing
Frozen "stacked eggplant Parmesan" - also amazing

They also have a great trail mix and beverage selection. When I can drink, I love their wine - not just the super cheap "$2 Chuck" but they sell tons of other great wine for low prices.

Their snacks are also great - olive oil popcorn, peanut butter filled pretzels, etc.

    Hope this helps!

Sorry the NST was "too active." Isn't that usually a good thing? Do you still have to return again tonight?

Awesome! I just got my first "Wow, you're big. Are you having twins?" comment. From someone we pay to come to our house and provide a service. UGH. PEOPLE.

Had my 38 weeks appt this morning and baby is seriously posterior and not even close to engaged. I cried in the car on the way home, I just feel so exhausted, so done and the thought of another med free posterior birth puts the fear into me

@AprilFool: Ugh I'm sorry, that was a big fear of mine too! Is there any chance baby can still spin around, or is it too late?

@coopsmama: I was so pleased when my midwife handed me the swab pack and said just do it yourself and bring it back at your next app!

@pregnantbee: Ugh sorry about the stupid comments. Definitely not what you want to hear! Acceptable things to say to a pregnant woman: "you look great" or "here, have some chocolate cake"

@pwnstar: I just talked to a co-worker this morning and finally got clear on my mat leave situation--I get 12w too (although only 8 paid). She advised trying to work from home starting maybe a week before the due date, which sounds like a good plan to me--nice to have that option. I hear you on not wanting to lose time with the baby. And I'm a week behind you but agree, suddenly I'm REALLY feeling a change in energy and comfort--I'm exhausted at 3pm and my ribs are killing me sitting in my office chair. Right now I'm trying to enjoy this time, but I'm sure in 3 or 4 weeks I'll be where @pregnantbee: is now, as in done-zo good to know your strategy! Did you feel like 12 weeks was sufficient last time?

  15. LCTBQE

    nectarine / 2461 posts

@AprilFool: aw, hang in there I just talked to TWO women at work today who both just had posterior births. does not sound fun but seems like it's pretty common

@ShootingStar: I get most of my meat, cheese, dairy, and eggs from trader joe's. their pre-made stuff is super carb-heavy, as is most pre-made stuff, which is a bummer with the GD. but all the things I get are pretty good-quality, hormone/antibiotic-free, and SO much cheaper than buying "nice" meat/dairy from my fancy grocery store. Their bacon is really great and nitrate-free, I think better than Applewood bacon.
    Low-carb meal ideas:
_I particularly like the TJ frozen wild salmon (I make it with yogurt/dill/olive oil sauce and sautéed zucchini, very low-carb)
_cut up chicken tenders in stir fries with packages of their pre-cut/washed veggies (I just skip the rice when I'm on the wagon )
_weekend breakfast/brunch: they sell washed/shredded brussels sprouts packages, I sauté them with olive oil, sprinkle them with shredded cheese, and eat with bacon and eggs.
_tuna salad, chicken salad, or egg salad on greens dressed with lots of vinaigrette. I've been avoiding pre-packaged raw greens during pregnancy because I am an insane paranoid freak and am worried about listeria, but looking forward to bringing this back into rotation after the baby comes.
_they sell frozen french (longer/skinnier?) green beans that I fry in olive oil or butter and then toss with toasted slivered almonds, a cut up tomato, and balsamic vinegar--yummy and simple side with rotisserie chicken.
_TJ string cheese or packages of seaweed (not everyone likes, but I love it) for quickie snacks.
ETA sorry in advance if you're a vegetarian! eek.

@coopsmama: awesome that you got another peek at her! how nice. and does anyone actually test positive for strep, what's the deal?

  17. ShootingStar

    coconut / 8472 posts

@pregnantbee: Luckily I didn't have to go back. I talked to my OB and she felt like the baby was fine and would've been more concerned with no variation in the heart rate. The midwife just didn't feel like she could sign off the NST because technically they didn't see what they needed to. But the midwife's "really really" wanting me to come back tonight was confusing and frustrating.

  18. Silva

    cantaloupe / 6017 posts

@LCTBQE: I tested positive last time, so I got antibiotics during labor. Kind of expect to test positive again this time, but I guess sometimes people do clear it between pregnancies. I don't think it's super uncommon?

@ShootingStar: I can't eat gluten, so most of what I get from TJs is low carb. Their frozen fish is great usually. The organic frozen veggies are the cheapest I've seen. Good nitrate free bacon. Good cheeses. I sometimes buy meat their, too. Cheap bananas and avocados, often (but I'm up north where those are more expensive in general, I assume). They make a whole milk European style plain yogurt that we really like!

@agold: I'm with you on work craziness. We have so much going on. Just hired a new editor for our print publication, so I've been helping to get her up to speed, we're launching our new website next week and I'm the digital news editor so obviously that has a major effect on my job, we're moving offices (basically just down the hall), and I still need to get people trained on how to cover for me while I'm gone.

@ShootingStar: I'm glad you didn't have to go back when it's so far, that sounded frustrating.

@pregnantbee: so rude, what are people thinking with those kind of comments?!

@AprilFool: I'm sorry your appointment was frustrating I hope baby gets it together for you soon.

@LCTBQE: in terms of last day of work, I'm trying to figure that out. I would like to request to work from home for at least the last week before my due date, but because of the aforementioned busy-ness, I'm not sure that will be doable. I might even like to just WFH a few days a week rather than the whole week or something, just to not have to commute and sit at my terrible desk chair.

We got the stuff I ordered on Prime today, plus the travel system my ILs sent us. I think our leasing office, which accepts all packages, is probably getting sick of us. In the last week we've gotten today's packages plus a glider, a futon, a changing table/dresser, and a bunch of smaller packages. Nothing like waiting until the last minute!

  20. pregnantbee

    grapefruit / 4717 posts

@MrsSCB: Nah, you're not last-minute. And your leasing office can deal. I'm sure you're paying a lot to live there, and that's part of the deal.

  21. pregnantbee

    grapefruit / 4717 posts

@ShootingStar: Phew, I'm glad you didn't have to return tonight. Sorry it was so frustrating to deal with!

  22. LCTBQE

    nectarine / 2461 posts

@Silva: yessss their European Style whole milk yogurt is like dessert for me! I love it with plain fresh blueberries. I am a big believer in full-fat dairy some of their frozen organic veggies were recently recalled with a listeria scare--I think @coopsmama: brought this to my attention! but they've fixed it by now.

@MrsSCB: whoa, sounds like a lot is going on at your office! the training thing on top of everything else.... oy. and yep, working from home sounds very nice. I spoke with another co-worker who told me she was working from home for two weeks before her DD--I'm going to feel it out with my team and see what I can swing, but that would be awesome. agree, the office chair is painful, but the commute is worse. be glad you left NYC, it's taking ALL my self-restraint not to start a thread about commuting from Brooklyn on the MTA for 45 minutes each way in July at 8.5 months pregnant with 5000 people who don't give a shit and would rather play candy crush with both hands undisturbed than give up their seat ughhh humanity.
but on a brighter note, WOW!!! to your purchases! that's great, sounds like it's coming together fast. post a picture in the nurseries thread when you're situated

@pregnantbee: oh meant to ask, besides being over pregnancy and fielding bullshit comments, how's maternity leave so far? dreamy?

ETA: OMG TGIF. I just realized it's the weekend.

  24. coopsmama

    cantaloupe / 6059 posts

@LCTBQE: some people do test positive for it! I have not with the previous two times so I am curious and hopeful I will be negative again. I know several who have tested positive for it though so it does happen - I wonder what the rates are! I think it seems more common to be GB strep negative.

  25. pregnantbee

    grapefruit / 4717 posts

@LCTBQE: Haha. Dreamy. Haha. I've had a lot of appointments like taking my son to his 4yr well check, waiting at home for the exterminator, OB check tomorrow. Mixed in with errands and seeing friends here and there. And I have gotten a pedi and have somehow managed to nap many of the days. Otherwise I feel like I'm kinda sitting around and wondering if today will be the day. It's better than being "on" at work all day, though! I'm enjoying more freedom.

ETA: I was GBS+ last time and needed IV antibiotics for 4 hrs or so before delivery. Too bad I got to the hospital only 3 hrs before having him. Oops. Tested negative this time, and I'm thrilled!

  26. coopsmama

    cantaloupe / 6059 posts

@Umberto: that's awesome! My former practice let us do it ourselves, too, which I loved but this one seems to prefer to do it themselves. Oh well!

    nectarine / 2461 posts

@Silva: @coopsmama: I forgot to reply about this, sorry! I had never even heard of it until everyone here started talking about it a few weeks ago--that must be why I was under the impression it wasn't very common. is it scary, or just a pain?

ETA @pregnantbee: cross posted with you just now okay, I need to read about it on one of those dorky websites like webmd. glad to hear you're in the clear this time, sounds like one less thing to worry about. and I would totally totally rather do life maintenance than be "on" at work! dreamy is all relative

  28. coopsmama

    cantaloupe / 6059 posts

@pregnantbee: Ha! I love that you mentioned your birthday with your son's due date because that's something I've been thinking about. Mine is August 23rd and I'm due the 11th and I reallllly don't want to be in the hospital over my birthday. Or in labor. I waited to be induced until I was 13 days late with my second (after only being 4 late with C) and this time around I will NOT wait that long to accept the induction just so that I can avoid my birthday.

I'm glad you're feeling ready for baby girl to come!! I can't wait to see the news that she is here or you're in labor. Coming up quick!

  29. coopsmama

    cantaloupe / 6059 posts

@LCTBQE: It generally isn't scary - only if it goes undetected and baby catches it (which is rare, thankfully). It's a pain because of the IV antibiotics that they give before delivery.

  30. pregnantbee

    grapefruit / 4717 posts

@coopsmama: I just really didn't want to have him on my birthday! Lol. Meanwhile, my sister had her daughter on her own birthday And I'm due on my mom's, so we'll see what happens!

I didn't realize your bday is in Aug. Will make for a fun month! DH's is also in June - 5 days after DS. It's such a busy time for us!

I'm still nervous about L&D, but I think getting more excited as the days tick closer to the end. I think maybe I dropped a little in the last day. Will have to post another bump pic. Sadly I don't have access to the same mirror I've been using at work....unless I stop by work!

  31. pregnantbee

    grapefruit / 4717 posts

@LCTBQE: Also what @coopsmama: said. Not really a big deal since baby isn't likely to get it with you on antibiotics. It's just annoying to deal with an IV if you otherwise don't need one.

  32. LCTBQE

    nectarine / 2461 posts

@pregnantbee: @coopsmama: ow, all the sudden I'm remembering my back of the hand IV that I had for the D&C I have exactly 1 good vein in my inner elbow and it was totally shot from all the beta draws I'd had leading up to it. is that where they usually do the IV for epidurals? anyway, good to know the strep isn't a frightening/threatening thing even if you do test positive.

  33. AprilFool

@Umberto: Am sure there is still time, I am just feeling really negative about it because my daughter flipped sides at this point and never flipped back.

Just had my 38w check (38w tomorrow) and all looks good. I declined a cervical check bc I really feel that it doesn't tell me much about when I will actually go into labor. I'm still on track with weight gain, baby girl's heartbeat was strong, tape measure still shows me ahead but dr still believes it's all fluid. At least she didn't tell me I'm measuring at 43w! 😂

@pregnantbee: Yay for not measuring 100 weeks pregnant! 😂😂😂 I had a good NST this morning. Baby boy is measuring a week ahead and was very busy. They're not overly optimistic that he'll flip back to vertex, but at this point, I'm good either way. I can't control it, so I'm not going to stress about it.
