@LCTBQE: breastfeeding and the millions of positions were overwhelming to me the first time around as well. now i just follow one simple rule, no matter the position. belly to belly.

@Glitter: Great to hear from you! Glad nursing is going better for you! I had really bad cracked nipples the first time (just not knowing good positions and having a strong hungry baby). The second time was much easier! Thats great the sweep worked for you. I was pretty crampy yesterday and feel really low today. I'm going to try to keep up the walking to see if anything happens.

@T.H.O.U.: hi! my mom is here for a few weeks so i have a few minutes to myself here and there, which is awesome. walking is great! i didnt always feel like walking though, and my midwife told me stair climbing is even better. I did our 15 steps about 4 times daily the week before delivery. maybe u could try that too!

@Glitter: I'm trying stairs at work! I was laughing this morning because I have to walk my daughter up two flights of stairs to her classroom each morning. I read you should try to take stairs up two at a time to really stretch out. I can barely lift my leg up one step without pressing on my belly. its SOO low. At work I also try to take even one or two flights as I can.

@T.H.O.U.: ohhh interesting, i never read about the 2 steps. and glad i hadn't because 1 is hard enough. can u tell i hate exercise? lol

@MrsBeluga: "bloody chapped raw" That's so crazy that it happens. These babies must really have a crazy strong latch. Yikes!

@Glitter: thank you for sharing your thoughts on the lanolin!

39 week appt, state of the cervix update ( thanks :@T.H.O.U.: ): 50% effaced, and 2cm dilated at the bottom but closed at the top (so opening like a funnel which I didn't know is a thing). She didn't have to reach for my tonsils, either! Baby is in a good position, but not fully engaged yet.
So: progress! I've been feeling off the past two days with some minimal cramping but nothing that ever becomes remotely contraction like. Braxton hicks continue near constantly.
I didn't dilate at all until I was in labor last time. I'm feeling a little better after this appt, but it's supposed to be miserably hot for the next two days so my optimism may fade quickly.

Is anyone just feeling "blah" today? I am for the first time feeling tired, sluggish, and just all around meh. Is this an end-of-pregnancy thing, or do I have a head cold or something else?

@agold: I have felt that way most days for the past 2-3 weeks.... The end is tough

@pwnstar: Bummer that 37 weeks was a turning point for you. I hope this is just a quick thing for me! I'm trying to maintain a pretty packed work schedule and then I'm off after the 17th. Phew. I'd love to curl up on the couch all day. So we've had some hot weather where I am and all the plants on my patio died. I keep meaning to get some new ones but I have zero energy. It sucks.

@agold: Oh, I'm right there with ya. Totally an end of pregnancy thing. Not every day, mind you, but lots of them! It's exhausting. I can't believe I (maybe) have even 3 weeks left. My body is feeling very done!

@Silva: Hooray, it's something! Your body is doing its job and preparing and while we hope labor is sooner rather than later that news is better than it could be.

As for me, thanks to all of you for being appalled about my bra shopping situation yesterday. It made me feel better to have that solidarity. I may mention something to the store owner next time I go in (which will be soon - she is a sweet older woman who wasn't there yesterday) but won't call to try and get a discount or anything. With further reflection I'm going to give the gal the benefit of the doubt, she seemed really OFF her game including a conversation I witnessed while waiting in line to check out so I'm hoping it was a bad bad day for her and that her implication came off poorer than she meant it to. My husband also pointed out that it was probably really NOT kosher to just hand me a $20 from the till so non discriminately and that she really should have had to re do the transaction yet a third time so I feel like the wheels weren't fully turning if that makes sense.

On the baby front, I'm tired with lots of pressure down low! This baby is riding low. I have some swelling and pain down around my pubic bone which I am betting is from how low she is but not much the last two days on the contraction front so I think it will still be awhile. I plan to ask to be checked at my appointment on Friday at 39+1.

Guys, I'm going nuts over here. First I had hours of contractions Monday that went nowhere. I had a couple yesterday, and now I'm on my THIRD round of contractions today. First I woke up at 2am feeling her super low, then contractions went from 3-6ish. Then they started up around 12 for another 2-3 hours. Now they just started again!

I'm so tired of all these false starts. And I'm dreading going through almost 2 solid weeks of this until my scheduled c section. Of course if I truly go into labor they'll take her out sooner, but how the eff will I or anyone else know if I'm really in labor?? If it's based on getting to 4cm, I never made it that far with a 20 hour induction and an epidural. Ugh. I have my 37w appointment tomorrow, maybe the doctor will have some answers for me.

  23. T.H.O.U.

    wonderful clementine / 24134 posts

@agold: yes. End of pregnancy suchs. Either I'm drained with no energy or I physically hurt. Add in hormones and I'm a mess. I've had a few days good here or there but everyday seems to get harder.

@ShootingStar: I'm sorry. I hope your OB has answers. My OB just said u less they keep intensifying hour after hour, I'm good to stay home.

  24. ShootingStar

    coconut / 8472 posts

@coopsmama: they range from mild to moderate. I've been through this so many times, I'm not going to start timing until they're consistently moderate. They range from being right on top of each other to 10 mins apart.

@T.H.O.U.: Yeah, with a toddler I can't just have us all make a field trip to the hospital 40 minutes away unless it seems to be the real deal.

  25. LCTBQE

    nectarine / 2461 posts

@Silva: sounds like you're getting somewhere!
@ShootingStar: sounds like you are, too maybe your body's doing its best to gear up? I hope you get some information at your appointment.

I had my 37-wk appointment this morning, and nothing has changed since last week (when I was 50% effaced and 1cm dilated), so I'm just going to keep on keepin on, etc. I did start to get more frequent menstrual-ish cramps over the weekend, but nothing consistent.

@agold: I think you are one of the last ladies here (or the last?!) who has *not* been feeling blah--but it's awesome that you made it this far! it does suck, hopefully your blah will be more touch n go? I am so sapped by the end of the day, I have to seriously rally to even do the smallest things, like unloading the dishwasher or writing a thank you letter. and RIP patio plants my usually-adorable rooftop garden is pitiful this year. are you going to try to re-plant?

  26. pregnantbee

    grapefruit / 4717 posts

@ShootingStar: I felt the same way about going to the hospital in labor this time. I really wasn't sure it was real, and I didn't want to get there and get turned away, especially after calling on friends to watch our son. In my case, if we didn't go when we did, I may very well have had a baby on the side of the road!

  27. LCTBQE

    nectarine / 2461 posts

@Pirouette: that sounds like a good plan re: living in tanks vs sleep bras. I started a whole 'nother thread about nursing bras that I got some great advice on (including from some of these ladies!) so I'm going to re-group post-baby. and we were going to buy a new mattress a few months back, but after my SIL told me her water broke in bed, and then hearing about the night sweats, I'm holding off until winter. also, have been wondering about you! are you still doing your RCS on 8/25, or did they not schedule it yet? hope you're enjoying this freezing cold weather we've been having the past couple of days everyone likes it but texan me.

@Glitter: I will keep that in mind! glad it's going smoother for you this time. I got the lasinoh lanolin AND the earth mama angel baby butter wutter whatever stuff, god I hope I can avoid falling-off/torn up nipples.

@ShootingStar: Well, hopefully the OB will have some good insight for you tomorrow!

Have entered a stage where it feels like my body is screwing with me. Had mild, period like cramping all night (well,at least during the three times I was awake). I didn't time because they were so mild and not increasing in intensity at all, but it seemed pretty regular- every 10 min or so.
Continuing this morning, but it is definitely more noticeable when I'm lying down. I've had loose or very soft stools for the past week, so that happening isn't really any indicator of a change at this point.

My daughter and I are headed to a friends house to swim in their pool this morning, and then coming home to try to catch up on cleaning. Hoping this goes away or presents itself as obviously something soon!

Tomorrow would be an ideal day for a baby....right before my husbands 3 day weekend.....just saying, universe....;)

@Silva: crossing my fingers baby meets your timeline!!!

@ShootingStar: thinking of you! I hope they either go away or become no doubters!!

@LCTBQE: im totally enjoying the cooler weather! The heat wave took a lot out of me. But I'm not from texas and i do NOT enjoy that weather!! This week has been soooo nice. Especially since i have to head uptown today for hopefully my last scan there ever! So im waitlisted for the 25th and scheduled for the 26th. My doc thinks there's a good chance I'll be moved at the last minute so my last day of work is the 23rd, i want at least a day in between. I havent even ordered the car seat yet, i feel like such a slacker this time around!

I've definitely entered the "im so uncomfortable I'd almost rather pee myself than walk to the bathroom again" phase. I never reached this phase with my first, prob because they kept threatening to take her out early and i was so focused on keeping her in!

  32. pwnstar

    pear / 1718 posts

@Silva: Me too. Although I frequently get BH during the day, at night for the past few nights, I have been getting crampy, ache-y contractions (it has woken me up a few times now), and for the past 48 hours have had loose/soft stool (which is a nice break from the alternative . . . sort of!). I have another NST tomorrow, and last week my BP was a concern and there were pretty big contractions (although I couldn't feel half of them!), so we'll see what my OB says. I also hope to have a date for my c/s either today or tomorrow!

@Pirouette: Hi! So glad you are doing well!

  33. T.H.O.U.

    wonderful clementine / 24134 posts

@Silva: Come on baby! Those mild cramps are SOO annoying.

@ShootingStar: Yes, my OB realizes I am still working and have two kids, so running off to spend 3 hours getting checked isn't really feasible. I've heard online of people being told to get checked out for anything more than 6 BH in an hour. OMG, I would be going nuts if thats what my OB expected!

So bizarre. I'm experiencing food aversions again! I never did at the end of my pregnancies with the other two. But this morning I fixed eggs for breakfast for my kids (and myself) and about puked trying to eat them. I just gave up and settled for a relatively healthy protein bar. I am almost throwing up at the thought right now!! Eggs have been one of my BIGGEST aversions the first twenty weeks with all 3 pregnancies but I'm shocked it's back again.

  38. pregnantbee

    grapefruit / 4717 posts

@coopsmama: I had the food aversions return, too. Helped me not gain a ton of weight at the end. Also totally sucked bc I like to eat. Also, if I ate even a small amount of anything, I'd be full for hours.

Just wanted to update that my c/s has been scheduled for next Thursday the 11th! One week to go!

Eta: Any c/s mamas feel like sharing wisdom/advice?

@coopsmama: @pregnantbee: My appetite is all over the place lately! Some nights all I want is several popsicles and I'm good. Other nights I could eat a horse, but after a few bites, I get uncomfortably full (and that feeling lasts forever!) even though I am still hungry. So weird!

  40. coopsmama

    cantaloupe / 6059 posts

@pregnantbee: I'm also realizing that there isn't that much that sounds THAT good. I'm wondering if it's just the lack of room. Tonight we're going out for our anniversary and I can't even decide what kind of food sounds good. All I know is that I'm looking forward to the peanut butter chocolate cake that I'm making for afterwards. SO healthy.

@pwnstar: Nice to have a date on the calendar - yay! I have no advice as I've never had a C/S, but I just want to reiterate that I am so excited for you to meet this little guy. My friend just had a scheduled c-section a few months ago and it went really, really well.
