@Pirouette: If I could marry a service, I'd consider marrying Amazon Prime.

@pregnantbee: ha! I know it's a not great company, and ruining the publishing industry, and destroying small business.....but yeah. I love it. I order everything from Amazon.

@pregnantbee: no kidding. although have you checked out jet? They've had some pretty competitive offers lately, and I've been buying diapers and stuff there recently instead. feels like i'm cheating on a significant other or something!

@pregnantbee: I would marry my new Elfa closet.

Is anyone else extra hungry? I feel like all I do is eat! It's all good stuff (and portioned out!), but I feel like a machine! I had a cilantro salmon "burger" for lunch (baked, no bun), and now I am eating a ridiculously huge container of cantaloupe, strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries. And it's only 12:04. This baby wants ALLTHEFRUIT.

@pwnstar: UGH i think i seriously ate 3000 calories yesterday, and was light-headed in the evening from being so hungry. And it was all CRAP I need to clean up my eating, healthy food has just tasted so awful and left me feeling still hungry and unsatisfied.

  7. pwnstar

    pear / 1718 posts

@JoJoGirl: I had such a hard time with food during my first pregnancy . . . maybe it's different this time because I'm having a boy? But MAN OH MAN, my baby girl wanted McDonald's, (and I hadn't eaten McDonald's in years!!!), bagels with cream cheese, cupcakes, and hot dogs (to name a few!).

  8. JoJoGirl

    cantaloupe / 6206 posts

@pwnstar: YES. And I'm having another girl I was 100% Paleo before getting pregnant and now am seriously subsisting on pizza, Rice Krispies, and copious amounts of sugar.

  9. pwnstar

    pear / 1718 posts

@JoJoGirl: Try not to stress too much about it (although I'm not convinced you're gonna take my advice on that!) . . . and just do what you can when you can. Seriously. And hormones truly have a mind of their own . . . yours(!), because they totally set up shop in your brain and just take over (obnoxious little bastards). It's definitely an invasion of the body snatchers type event!

Eta: Hang in there! And. That sounds deeelishusss!

  10. Pirouette

    pomegranate / 3331 posts

@pwnstar: haha i don't know...with my first I ate really well and felt pretty great. GIRL. with my second, my diet has been horrendous and I cannot stop eating all. day. long. BOY! My body just doesn't understand the old wives tales or something!

  11. JoJoGirl

    cantaloupe / 6206 posts

@Pirouette: @pwnstar: Ughhhh. I'm just getting BIGGER and HEAVIER so much faster with this pregnancy vs the first. Feel like I need to reign in my eating but I can't

  12. pwnstar

    pear / 1718 posts

@Pirouette: It's such a crap shoot, isn't it?! I don't think there's any order to most of it--that it's all totally random, like a great big game of pregnancy universe bingo . . . you never know which bingo card you're gonna get, and which letters/numbers from your card will get called! For this self-professed control freak, it's a struggle to say the least!

  13. MrsKerch

@pwnstar: OMG cupcakes! My husband told me that if I made any more cupcakes he would go stay at his mothers house until I wore myself out on them!

  14. pwnstar

@JoJoGirl: Don't beat yourself up. Stop that right meow (eta: hopefully y'all are Super Troopers fans and get the reference)! There's only so much you can do (I honestly believe that), and it's so much more important that you eat and feel satisfied than any of the possible other alternatives. Fwiw, most of the second timers I know have said that they all gained/got bigger sooner with their second, but that they ended up being the same size or smaller with their second.

  15. Pirouette

    pomegranate / 3331 posts

@JoJoGirl: I think for me, some of it is a shift in mentality. With my first, I only knew my body as i knew it, and it was hard to imagine gaining all that weight, and would i ever be the same? But while my body wasn't exactly the same after, it was close enough that I got my body image back pretty quickly, and also cared quite a bit less, because, obviously, I had a baby to show for it. this time around, knowing that my body did it once and went back makes me feel like it's ok to let loose about it. which of course isn't true because I'm several years older, work out way less, and will have 2 kids to contend with, so much harder all around. But I'm trying to embrace all this change this time around and have faith that if I want to put in a little effort, my body will bounce back again, and if i don't, well, that's ok too, because it's my choice. I'm also finding it hard because I don't have a visible bump yet - i'm in the fat stage of pregnancy. Awesome for the body image

@pwnstar: I think you just described exactly what I hate so so much about being pregnant. I hate not being in control of my body, not just about the eating but about EVERYTHING in pregnancy. I feel so out of control, and it drives me craaaaazy! (cue those kicks to finally show up and remind me that there are also things I like about pregnancy...cmon, just one kick?!)

  16. pwnstar

    pear / 1718 posts

@MrsKerch: LOL! The only baked goods I have really wanted this time (so far) are lemon bars. I have been watching The Great British Baking Competition on Netflix and they make so much lemon curd . . . I had to make something lemon-y before I went insane!

  17. pwnstar

    pear / 1718 posts

@Pirouette: I felt the same way with my first - so out of control and struggling so so much. I do feel better about this pregnancy because I know that even though I gained a ridiculous amount of weight that it all came off (although it took some time), and that I am still *me.* And I know I will be this time too, even though I know it won't come easy and I'm gonna have to work for it. Pregnancy can be such a mind f*ck in that sense. People (men and anyone who hasn't been pregnant ) just can't fathom how that anxiety layered on top of the physical (and other emotional demands) can be completely overwhelming and totally debilitating.

  18. Pirouette

    pomegranate / 3331 posts

@pwnstar: I 100% agree! it's so hard not feeling like yourself. And not feeling like the person that everyone expects you to be, because hormones have temporarily kidnapped your brain men could not possibly understand this!

@JoJoGirl: Omg, I am obsessed with Elfa closets! We installed them in this apartment and the last and they are the best! We don't even need a dresser or anything because we incorporated drawers in the closet design. Saves a lot of space.

@pwnstar: I have been SO hungry lately, I think the baby must be going through a growth spurt or something. Yesterday I went to the gym...and then had McDonald's for dinner. You win some, you lose some I guess, haha. Also, I've had a major sweet tooth throughout pregnancy, which is weird because I normally do not at all.

  20. agold

    grapefruit / 4045 posts

@MrsSCB: I've never heard of Elfa closets. I really want to do new closet doors and maybe something on the inside of baby girl's closet. And why did you have to mention McDonalds. Oh my gosh I want it so bad right now.

"not feeling like myself" was the worst part of pregnancy last time, for me. I'm doing okay with my anxiety this time (I was working a much higher stress, full time job then) and so I've been feeling a little better. But last night I was on the verge of tears just thinking about how early in this I still am, and how FAR away August is.

@pwnstar: @Pirouette: @JoJoGirl: I ate a bagel just about every day for 6w this time around. And I might have had a bagel sandwich this morning after a 4-day bagel hiatus You gotta eat what sounds good, and your body will most likely do what it's going to do regardless of what you put into it.

  23. agold

    grapefruit / 4045 posts

@pregnantbee: I haven't had a bagel sandwich in years. Now I want one of those too!! Stop, you girls, with your food suggestions! I'm seriously going to get mcdonalds fries and a bagel sandwich asap.

    @pregnantbee: ummmm that looks delicious!

Did any of you mom veterans do maternity photos? Or does anyone plan to for this pregnancy? What would you say is a good price? I just looked up a photographer my friend used, because I liked her photos. Looks like it's $475 per session, and you get an hour of photo time at whatever location you choose, minimum of 30 high-res images that you can download, and the option to purchase prints (although I would probably print elsewhere because it would likely be more cost-effective). What do you think of that?

  28. agold

    grapefruit / 4045 posts

@MrsSCB: That's about the price I would pay for my wedding photographer to do a 1.5 hour maternity session for me. He charges $500 for 1.5 hour session, 40 fully edited pictures, and then access to all color edited pictures. I'm not sure if we will do it. We might depending on how I feel and look.

ETA: I'd really like to do a photo session after we have the baby when the baby can sit up and smile.

  29. pwnstar

    pear / 1718 posts

@MrsSCB: I did not do maternity photos, but that's not a bad price!

  30. pregnantbee

    grapefruit / 4717 posts

@MrsSCB: I did maternity photos, but my friend's sister did them and gave us a huge discount and included all full-resolution digital prints. It was way under that. I think many pro photographers would charge less than that for a sitting fee, then jack up the price for digital photos and/or prints.

I haven't decided yet if we're doing official maternity photos this time. A neighbor wants to practice, so maybe I can get away with that and paying her in baked goods

We do want to hire a newborn photographer this time b/c I'm still bitter we didn't get pro newborn shots last time. I consider the sitting fee to be cheap and then almost fell over when I saw what even just digital prints at a resolution to allow printing at 8x10 cost! It's insane. Still debating what to do about that, but I do know I'll regret it again if we don't do some form of newborn shots.

Not that I'm an expert, but for what it's worth if you were to have to pick either maternity OR newborn, I'd pick newborn. We never did anything with the maternity photos. None are displayed around the house.

  31. agold

    grapefruit / 4045 posts

@pregnantbee: I feel the same as you.. that newborn photos are more important than maternity photos.

Its not like I think I'm the hottest looking pregnant woman. I don't know why I'd want to display photos of me at my heaviest weight, even if pregnancy is a beautiful and amazing thing. I don't know if I'd put all the photos together in a book and put it on my coffee table. So thank you, @pregnantbee: , you just helped me decided against paying $500 for fancy maternity photos!!!

  32. pregnantbee

    grapefruit / 4717 posts

@agold: Haha! I wasn't trying to dissuade you from it....I just wasn't a fan of wanting to display my pregnant self around the house. I do like having the photos, though. It also helped that it was maybe $150 for me to do it. I have major regret over no fancy newborn photos, though. My doula said she was also a newborn photographer. She didn't spend much time with us at the birth, so she offered a newborn session for free. I could have done better with a 1990s point and shoot with my eyes closed. I was and still am bitter and angry about that. I'd much rather print a huge canvas or at least a print of a gorgeous newborn shot

  33. agold

    grapefruit / 4045 posts

@pregnantbee: Oh don't worry! I didn't take your post like you were trying to dissuade me. But I just agree with your thoughts. I, too, know a girl who is a beginning photographer and maybe I'll pay her $100 to take maternity photos. Otherwise, yes, save for newborn photos.

I just went to BuyBuyBaby for the first time and almost passed out. So overwhelming! I'm so glad I did most of my registry so far online as it was much less stressful I did get 2 clearance maternity shirts and picked up my goodie bag though!

@mrschickpea: You totally should have parked there! You are definitely an expecting mom. And that's awesome you have started your registry. What kind of goodie bag did they give you?

@mrschickpea: Total perk. Do it next time. And hooray for online registries and research. Those places are overwhelming.

@pregnantbee: oh yeah newborn photos would definitely come out on top if we had to choose between them! I actually told my husband I didn't know if I would need/want photos of myself while pregnant and he said he thought our families would like them. Which is prob true, they love photos. But I'm sure would love newborn photos more I think I might try to find a photog who does a package deal.
