@Aandmklover: Kimono tops are serioulsy awesome! My LO spent a good number of her early days in one kimono top or another (and she wore one home from the hospital!).

@MrsSCB: I am bigger than I was at this point with my first pregnancy (19 weeks today!), and I am *still* getting the "but you're so small" comments (and of course the "I can't tell you're pregnant" comments from those who I think must be legally visually impaired . . . (I digress)). I'm sorry, because it seriously sucks (on both sides, I am sure). I am sure what you are feeling *is* movement (YAY!), and just try not to let the ninnies rent too much space in your head. Most people don't give a second thought to how their comments can make you feel/worry . . . because, yeah, I am sure they think they are being complimentary [insert eye roll here].

@Aandmklover: she wore a diaper and a kimono shirt the hospital provided with a blanket over her. It was July in the desert, so it's not like she needed clothes. We were team green, and just never considered an outfit.

@OldpuebloJenn: I can just see it in my mind. too cute! We love those tops. It's so so hard to dress babies in the summer. Hot outside/cold inside=layers on/off

I had people saying I was small for months then I finally popped in the last week or 2 and now family is says how "big" I am. Can't ever win. Just say I look great because guess what, I'm only half way done so I'm going to get much bigger. And even though I hate getting bigger physically I know that that just means baby is getting bigger and fatter too!!

@MrsSCB: I'm so sorry you are getting the "you're so small" comment and that its bothering you. People should just say "you look great!" and leave it at that. its true that being small can indicate a small baby which can indicate a problem. I'm worrying about this myself all the time. I don't get many comments at all from people because people don't know I'm pregnant. I saw my neighbor yesterday, who actually randomly is a boy a dated for like a summer when I was 13. Anyways, he was with his kids and asked how I was doing. I didn't even say I was pregnant. I feel it is so very weird to just offer up that information to anyone. But in general, I just think people are so totally ignorant of the challenges that a girl can have with pregnancy. But good for them. I seriously wish I was a blissfully ignorant girl. I don't fault them for not knowing to be sensitive to me. (Except I do actually motherf* them in head. )

@MrsSCB: this was me the entire pregnancy with my first. I was in the 3rd tri and getting these comments, and of course then baby started measuring small (which, despite the obvious seeming link, the docs all agreed was completely unrelated to me having a small bump). but of course it made me feel horrible every time someone commented, like my body didn't know how to grow a baby at the end of the day, i have a perfect 2 year old, who is petite like me.

@Aandmklover: "Just say I look great because guess what, I'm only half way done so I'm going to get much bigger." YES THIS!!! Seriously, why can't it ever be "you look great!" not big, not small, just GREAT! please tell this to my husband, who said "it's not so much your bump is bigger than last time, you're just a little bigger all over than you were last time" - UM, thanks babe, so are you!

@pwnstar: thanks, I'm trying not to let it get to me, and hopefully I'll feel relief after the anatomy scan next week. It cannot get here soon enough! And I'm glad you think it's probably movement. It still feels on the light side, but location-wise, seems more likely to be baby than gas or something haha. I know my organs are higher than they used to be at this point and I'm feeling things below my belly button.

@agold: It is weird to tell people! My direct reports at work still don't know, and I feel awkward about it because a lot of other people know, but then I also feel awkward making some big announcement like at a meeting or something. I keep hoping someone else will spill the beans

@Pirouette: That's a good point, I'm 5'3" and my husband is 5'8" so it's not as if we're large people either! Maybe he will also just be on the small (but hopefully still average) size.

  8. Pirouette

    pomegranate / 3331 posts

@MrsSCB: yea, that makes sense. also if you have tight abs, it will take longer to show, as well as if you have a longer torso. Remember, baby's still pretty small in there! the bump is your uterus popping out, not the size of your baby at this stage.

@MrsSCB: Before long people will be asking you if you are having twins, how on earth you are dealing with your giant belly, and making comments about when you are going on maternity leave because you are too huge to go on :(.

Wah. I have the flu (head version). It's just as awesome as it sounds. How's everyone doing?

Unrelated: I've just started gathering stuff for the nursery. What's the most you'd spend on 1 crib sheet? I know I'd need at least a 2nd, so that one would be much less expensive.

  11. Silva

    cantaloupe / 6017 posts

@pregnantbee: We have a mini crib, so the choices were pretty limited. I was looking at ones on etsy that would have cost 40.00, but talked myself out of it and am going to sew 2 for that price instead (I bought relatively expensive fabric). Do you have a machine? They really are easy to make.

  12. pregnantbee

    grapefruit / 4717 posts

@Silva: I don't have a machine or really any skill, but I do have access to a machine. I quasi-fell in love with a print online and the sheet is $34! I could buy the fabric alone for I think $10/yard, but I don't think my skills are up to it.

  13. Silva

    cantaloupe / 6017 posts

@pregnantbee: it is super, super easy. Read some tutorials online. Practice with cheap fabric first.

  14. MrsSCB

    pomelo / 5257 posts

@MrsBeluga: I keep telling people, "Don't worry, I'm sure in a few weeks I'll be as big as a house."

@pregnantbee: Boooo, I hope you feel better! Everyone is sick at my work this week -- they better not give it to me...

Question: Do you wear (or have you worn) compression socks for flying? Is there a specific time to start? I'm flying tomorrow and the flight time is less than 2.5 hours, if that makes a difference. I didn't even think about it until today, but I assume CVS or Walgreens or Target has them if needed?

  15. Pirouette

    pomegranate / 3331 posts

@pregnantbee: I hope you feel better! my LO is running a really high fever the past two days, and I'm just crossing everything tightly that's all it is. I seriously can't deal with anything major right now!

ladies, where do you buy your wireless, inexpensive bras? I've been buying them at gap body, but I don't think they really fit well, and since I apparently have gone up yet another cup size, I am in need of some 32DD wireless bras. I really am hoping this is a temporary size and don't want to spend much $ on them. Any recs?

  16. pregnantbee

    grapefruit / 4717 posts

@Pirouette: Thanks. I hope your LO feels better and that you don't catch anything. So, instead of buying wireless bras, I broke out an older Bravado Body Silk Seamless nursing bra. It doesn't have as much support as a real underwire but I think it's good enough, and the wire doesn't dig into the top of the bump anymore. I ended up buying another new one so I'd have 2 to rotate. I'm a quasi-similar size and a M works for me now. You should look at the size chart. Not super cheap, but for me, less expensive than the fancy bras I normally buy.

  17. pregnantbee

    grapefruit / 4717 posts

@MrsSCB: Thank you. I never wore compression socks for flying or for any other time. Sorry I'm no help.

  18. Silva

    cantaloupe / 6017 posts

@Pirouette: I have really tiny boobs, but I"ve heard the Coobie bras work well for all sizes. You can search hellobee for reviews, a lot of people seem to love them. I have one and I wear it to work because it offers a nice "shape." On the days I'm home I usually just wear the gap pullover bras, but those probably wouldn't have enough support for you.

  19. Pirouette

    pomegranate / 3331 posts

@pregnantbee: I actually have one from my first pregnancy, but I feel like it might not work that well with dresses/certain tops. maybe i'll dig it out and try it on!

@Silva: thanks - i'll look into them! I've always had a small chest (B cup normally) so this whole world is so new to me!

  20. pregnantbee

    grapefruit / 4717 posts

@Pirouette: I've found that it's really hard to find a supportive wireless bra in a small band and larger cup size. Drives me crazy.

  21. Pirouette

    pomegranate / 3331 posts

@pregnantbee: no kidding! the gap body ones aren't bad in terms of support, but i feel like they don't fit me right. and I am not really sure it's just because i'm squeezing into a D - even when i was a D (last week?) they didn't seem to fit great. or maybe i was just delusional about the size of my chest

@pregnantbee: Thanks! I just got back! Baby is still a girl (phew) and measuring still 5 days ahead. the specialist said it was up to my OB if he wants to change my due dates but 8/16 may be pretty far off. I'm not sure what I want to push for. Both of my kids were big but also born before their EDD. I'm not positive of my dates and think conception was about 5 days before scheduled O. So the adjusted date may be more accurate.

  25. pregnantbee

    grapefruit / 4717 posts

@T.H.O.U.: Yay! Glad it went well and that she's still a girl. It sounds like it's ultimately up to you. Go with your gut. It's all an estimate anyway.

    @pregnantbee: if i wasn't so lazy, sure!

@T.H.O.U.: yay for a good appt!!!

  27. OldpuebloJenn

    kiwi / 595 posts

@T.H.O.U.: I was measuring ahead at my last scan and if I'm still measuring ahead at my 20w within a week of my edd I can opt to adjust. . I decided to keep my original edd because I don't want to be induced and an earlier edd allows me a 5-6 day cushion and I'll risk out of my birth center if I go past 41w. I'd rather keep time on my side. And if I deliver 5-6 days earlier than my edd, I'll know I'm on time!

  28. agold

    grapefruit / 4045 posts

So maybe I'm just being a dummy here, but what is the importance of changing due dates? I actually didn't even know my due date until recently when my OB told me. I sort of calculated it in my head and with online calculators because I did IVF and know the exact day that a 6 day frozen embryo was unfrozen and placed into me. And then my OB gave me a different due date than I thought. but I'm like "meh" over it because I don't expect baby girl to come on her due date anyways so just a general "end of august" seems fair to me. Is there a different reason for wanting to know an exact date?

  29. T.H.O.U.

    wonderful clementine / 24134 posts

@OldpuebloJenn: Yea thats kinda what I'm thinking. I decided today I would ideally love to deliver either August 4/5/6 or August 18/19/20. In a magical perfect world I know!

  30. OldpuebloJenn

    kiwi / 595 posts

@agold: you have the right attitude! Due dates are estimated! But obs and midwives get a bit fussy about due dates if you go over. Most providers won't let you go past your due date by more than 2 weeks. Also if you go early, it's good to know the (estimated) gestational age.
But, you're right only 5% of babies are born on their due date. When people ask me I say mid-August, and most people ask "but what date"? It's so funny how fixated we are with this guesstimated date!

  31. agold

    grapefruit / 4045 posts

@OldpuebloJenn: Thanks for that response. I used to get that "but what specific date" question all the time and I actually did not know until like month 4. But it makes sense with what you said re: going over or coming early.

  32. T.H.O.U.

    wonderful clementine / 24134 posts

@agold: I think like @OldpuebloJenn: it matters if you are risking out and looking at induction or c-section.

My babies grow big but at the same time I dont want them to get so big they can't come out! So size/dates kinda matter and I'm probably going to be induced.

  33. ShootingStar

    coconut / 8472 posts

I tell people I'm due in August. I'm definitely not going past 39 weeks (scheduled c section) and if I have pre-e symproms again it could be as early as 37 weeks. So while I'm due 8/22, baby will likely be here some time between 8/1 and 8/15 so I don't want to be too specific.

  34. agold

    grapefruit / 4045 posts

@T.H.O.U.: Oh I see. If you know you need an induction or c-section that makes sense too.

I'm really hoping that the baby will just come all nice on its own. But so this has been bothering me lately and I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about it.

I had to have cryotherapy and cells frozen off my cervix when I was like 20. (i.e., well over 10 years ago). (and I didn't have HPV, although I don't even know what that is so I don't care, but I just feel like saying that I didn't have it since someone recently asked me if I did and now I feel embarrassed to say I had cryotherapy if it implies I had some kind of STD.) So my OB told me that because I had cryotherapy, that procedure can cause scar tissue on the cervix which may mean I will need a c-section. She said it all fast so I didn't get to really understand it all but I think she said she wouldn't know if its an issue until I'm actually in labor. Cue ongoing panic - I will labor for days and then be told I need a c-section. That sounds like horrible torture to me. Does anyone know anything about this?

@MrsSCB: I flew at 22/23/24 weeks last time and I did wear socks but I was flying long distances (Bris to LA). They did help but my feet still swelled anyway.

@T.H.O.U.: I am measuring a full week ahead but there is no chance my dates are off. Guess I am just growing a huge baby!

  36. T.H.O.U.

    wonderful clementine / 24134 posts

@AprilFool: yes I'm trying to decide if it's just a big baby or I really am off or a bit of both!

@AprilFool: thanks! I have to go to target anyway, so I'll probably pick some up if I can find them. Can't hurt to use them I suppose!

    pomegranate / 3350 posts

@agold: just jumping over from Sept (our board is so quiet). I had a LEEP which I think is similar and was worried about scar tissue with my first, but it was not an issue at all. I think if you have a good delivery nurse or midwife, they might even try to get it to stretch during delivery if it seems you're having trouble dilating. With my procedure they were more worried about cervical incompetence while can lead to premature labor. But that was also not an issue for me.

  39. agold

    grapefruit / 4045 posts

@skipra: Thanks for jumping over! I was just coming back here to even delete my question since no one was responding to it. When I was looking online I did read about procedures that can cause premature labor so I suppose having a tough cervix is better than that. I'm so glad you didn't have that issue. I hope I don't have any of these issues either!!

  40. Pirouette

    pomegranate / 3331 posts

@agold: I don't have any experience with this, but if doctors can do vbacs 18 months apart, I wouldn't think scar tissue from 10 years ago would pose a problem. If you had it last year, maybe! I would push your ob for a few more details about her approach as it gets closer.
