    @runnerd: I'm hoping someone will shell out the $4.99 for the iPhone app and tell us if they can find the heartbeat at this point I keep looking at it, so maybe I'll break down soon!

    @Mrs.Someone: What is the name of the app? How is it supposed to find the heartbeat... using the gyroscope/accelerometer?

    @pui: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/my-babys-beat-hear-baby-heartbeat/id420859056?mt=8

    It uses the microphone. You're supposed to put it on airplane mode, and wear headphones for best results. Most reviews are from later on in pregnancy though.

    @Mrs.Someone: Ah ok I see... I'm kind of skeptical, but I'd try it. Probably would work later in pregnancy better than this early on!

    @pui: Yea, me too. That's why I haven't gotten it yet

    Just got back from my appt. Very quick appt as pretty much the majority of appts will be from here on out. Doc was able to find heartbeat with the doppler! So that was exciting. He really had to search and it took him awhile but he found it. It was about 158 bpm. I'll have to try again on my home doppler and see if I can't find it.

    I don't have another appt until 16 weeks on 2/28. It will be a long 6 weeks! I also schedule an elective ultrasound for that day to see if we can't find out the sex then. It was only $30 so I figured, why not?

    I'm not doing the NT scan this time. I think the blood work will be sufficient enough for me. Plus, I have my doppler at home so I can check in on the baby when I feel like it.

    @mrskc: ughh i have a feeling i won't get it until tuesday!

    @Mrs.Someone: yeah.. so i caved and paid for the app and nothing! i know it's really for the third trimester but i had hopes haha it did pick up my own heartbeat so i think it will actually be useful waaay later in the pregnancy.

    @mrskc: Glad it went well!

    @chibee: Thanks for taking one for the team I'll probably try it eventually too. At least its cheaper than a doppler...

    Hi everyone! I think that I will try that app tonight! Will post on results. I'm about 12 weeks now- waiting for symptoms to get better. They have slowly subsided, but tonight is a rough night! Anyone else still have symptoms going strong? I just want to feel normal again! (Not that I am not thankful to be pregnant- but man oh man this is harder then I thought.)

    pear / 1974 posts

    @Claire.Peonies: wow 12 weeks already!! I'm jealous, i'm only at 9 weeks at the moment and counting down the days until the second trimester because like you, it has been pretty rough for me!

    bananas / 9357 posts

    @Claire.Peonies: I'm currently 10 weeks and SO miserable right now! I'm throwing up daily and sometimes 2-3 times in one day. I know I have to eat to keep the nausea at bay but nothing sounds good! ugh! I so badly want to feel normal again too. Hopefully you start feeling better soon!

    @Claire.Peonies: I hope you feel better soon! I thought my morning sickness was starting to let up, and now it's back strong as ever. Having it week after week starts taking it's toll mentally and physically.

    I have my nt scan scheduled for this week (1/23) and I'm definitely a bit anxious/worried. At the same time I'm excited to see baby and I remember this being the most amazing look out of all of the ultrasounds I had with LO #1. Anyone else feeling this way about their upcoming scans or appointments? I was hoping I wouldn't worry as much this time around, but clearly that isn't happening!

    I have my NT on 1/24! I'm definitely nervous...but also really excited.

    I have been surprised at how reserved I've felt about telling people. I thought at 12 weeks I would have told the world but I am so worried! Hopefully I'll feel better after the ultrasound on Friday.

    I am FINALLY not feeling nauseated all the time and I'm able to think about/eat vegetables!!! OMG it is amazing and I will never take it for granted again! I hope relief comes soon for all of you guys at 9 or 10 weeks!

    @mrskc: yes! i've been craving/dreaming about steaks and i haven't eaten red meat in 6 years! a friend of mine suggested i might be anemic, which is likely since i was during my first pregnancy. i just thought it was funny i had dreams about a nice, bloody steak!

    i know this is probably way tmi but has anyone had "tummy issues?" (and i don't mean nausea and vomiting.)

    before i got pregnant i took colace every day because i easily got constipated, but i haven't had to take it at all during this pregnancy. i find myself running (literally) to the bathroom once, sometimes, twice a day. i always thought constipation was a big first trimester pregnancy symptom...

    is this normal? like an alternative to morning sickness or something?!

  20. babybean404

    apricot / 386 posts

    @jmarionsmith: this happened to me in my 9th week. I thought I might be sick but there were no other symptoms! It lasted like 5 days and then stopped. No idea what is up with that!

  21. Mrs.Someone

    pomelo / 5228 posts

    @jmarionsmith: Yep, I've had that problem most of this pregnancy, though its an issue I've been dealing with for years. I finally had it under control pre-preg, but its become a problem again!

    @jmarionsmith: I'm usually not a "regular" person. But during pregnancy I was super regular. Even on iron supplements I had no constipation issues whatsoever. Whereas not pregnant me has that problem a lot.

    @jmarionsmith: Yes, I have had this for sure! So not fun!

    @Phxbee: I've been really anxious about mine as well. I keep considering cancelling, but I don't know. Luckily yours is this week and will be done with soon. I have to agonize until Feb. 17!

    @babybean404: I'm not as far along as you (8w) but I am much more nervous to tell people than I thought. I have told immediate family and a few close friends, which was fun, but whenever someone asks when we/they can tell other family, friends, the public at large, etc. I start panicking! My best friend's baby shower will be when I am 12 weeks and my friends who know will be there along with their mothers and of course other people. It's very likely that my bump will be hard to conceal, but the thought of everyone knowing scares me.

    @mrs. 64: I'm 9 weeks on Wednesday. We told immediate family almost instantly because DH couldn't wait! LOL
    My mom has *strict* orders to keep it mum. But we'll be visiting next weekend for Chinese New year. We'll be seeing a lot of family we don't usually see. So I'm sure she won't be able to help herself! I'm just happy we have our first u/s next Tuesday before we go home. That way I can feel better before she blabs to the whole world!

    How is everyone feeling?

    Well, I had a fairly scary weekend. I was miserable with a cold on Sat. Sunday it evolved into a cough and shortness of breath. I read that it's common during pregnancy so I didn't think much of it. By the end of the evening I felt like I just couldn't catch my breath. I could only say a word or two between gasps. Urgent care and most places we're closed so we weighed a bit whether to go to the ER. Finally went in around 1AM because I started worrying if the baby would be struggling like me.

    I'm glad I went in. My oxygen levels were dangerously low. I'd ruptured several air sacs and had air leaking places it shouldn't. They diagnosed me with pneumonia and put me on antibiotics, oxygen and nebulizer treatments and within hours I felt soooo much better. They checked the baby's heartbeat today and all is good.

    I later learned that a lot of pregnant women wait too long to come in with pneumonia because they don't think of shortness of breath as abnormal. Hmm... Sounds like me, but I wanted to share this just so everyone can keep it mind if they start feeling sick. There's no way to know if my low oxygen levels had any negative impacts but I hope if this happens to anyone else... Don't wait as long as I did. Now I'm appalled that I had planned to wait another 8 hours for my regular healthcare to open.

    To end this crazy story on an upside. I'm in the hospital where I plan to deliver and everyone is so nice and competent. It's nice that I'll be used to an IV and hospital bed and everything for the next time in here, hopefully under more joyful circumstances

    If you are planning to WOH have you looked into daycare yet? I know I need to get my name on the list early because I've had friends who got on the list at 3 months pregnant and were still waitlisted when baby was 12 weeks. The whole thing is just overwhelming to me at this point. Not to mention I just saw the prices and about half my salary will go straight there... awesome.

    @mrs. 64: @pui: Thanks, ladies

    @mrs. 64: Our company has on onsite daycare with a long waiting list, so we got on it right after our first appointment. We'll probably start looking at other daycares in the next month or two. I think well just pick one backup since I've heard it often costs money to get on a list.

    @mrs. 64: thankfully I don't have to think about daycares until baby's a year old. I did have to check that I could receive the advance payment tax credit (my province subsidizes daycare up to 75% based on income) for LO#1 while I receive QPIP (quebec parental insurance plan). It was a happy day when I found out is still qualify, lol.

    I haven't told my current daycare I'm pregnant and ask them to hold a spot for new LO yet....I figure it still have plenty of time to do that since I don't need a spot until August 2015.

    @mrs. 64: yea daycare isn't cheap. It's so hard to find something quality that isn't an arm and a leg. Right now we went with the best but with two I would like to look at something cheaper.

    @JennyPenny: glad u and the baby r ok!! That's really scary. Glad u went in to get checked

    @mrs. 64: daycare is expensive!! I went with a more expensive one for lo#1. Will stay there for the second but we definitely cannot have 3 in daycare if we do have 3. That'd be where most of our money goes!

  36. regberadaisy

    GOLD / wonderful pomegranate / 28905 posts

    @JennyPenny: Omg!!! I'm so glad you and baby are OK.

    I've been pretty sick for two weeks now. Sometimes I have shortness of breath when I feel a cough coming on. But I think my lungs are just irritated because I've been coughing for so long.

    @mrs. 64: yes, daycare search is pretty overwhelming and daunting. A good place to start is your States' accreditation website to narrow it down. Then proximity to work and home should whittle that list down further .

    Our dream daycare has a 9m wait list for the infant room. Ultimately we enrolled LO in another that a cousin works at. We've been fairly happy but I do want to switch before #2 starts daycare.

    There is a fee to get on the wait list but once you're enrolled it goes towards tuition.

    Daycare for two will be almost half my take home. But the biggest thing preventing me from ever being a sahm is we get free health insurance through my work. That is huugggge .

    @JennyPenny: Oh wow, that is so scary! Glad you went in when you did and everything is ok.

    Anybody else end up with a UTI yet? I had one just before I found out I was pregnant and was on antibiotics and then at my appointment last week I did my first pee-in-a-cup and they said I had white blood cells in it which means I had a UTI coming on but no symptoms yet. So more antibiotics for me
