@kodybear: thanks for the list update! I finally got my doppler today, it took a week to arrive. AND bonus: found the heartbeat! It took a LONG time and a lot of frustration, but i finally found it!!! I was kind of amazed and wanted to listen forever!

I want to say my morning sickness is worse than when I was pregnant with DS. This pregnancy I started off feeling better but I'm just so miserable lately. I thought by now it would start getting better but I'm still throwing up multiple times a day.
On a happier note, I tried out the doppler tonight and found the hb! Yay! It was really hard to find and when I did, DS decided he was going to try and mess with the doppler so I lost it.
@chibee: Yay! Glad you were able to find it! I hope that will start making your anxiety let up a little.
@kodybear: thanks so much for updating the list!

@mrskc: glad you were able to find it too! i got so frustrated when i was trying it and i gave up multiple times but patience paid off!

@T.H.O.U.: Thank you for updating the progress list. I would probably have no idea where I was without it unless I pulled out a calendar.

I really liked this one because it has the day by day calendar plus a few tips like "the baby now can hear'.
You can download it as a word doc and add your own notes too!

Has everybody gotten their flu shot already? I just read a story about a woman in Arkansas that was 20 weeks pregnant, got the flu, and is currently unconscious on a ventilator. IF she wakes up it will be to find out she miscarried while she was under. I've been stressing about my flu shot for weeks because there hasn't been any vaccine available in my province since I found out I'm pregnant, so I can't get it yet.

I had another u/s appt with my RE yesterday. Everything went well and we have been released to the OB! After everything we've been through the last 3 years, we never thought this day would come! I know it's still early but it still feels momentous for us.
I actually had the OB appt today (scheduling just worked out that way) and it went well.. Except for the part where I was waiting to be examined and the fire alarm went off! I had to quickly get dressed and get outside! I kept thinking.. "What are the odds?" and "only me!" hahaha
So my OB was talking to me about the NT. I know this question has been asked a lot (and I'll do a search) but wanted to ask what you ladies thought about it.
apricot / 403 posts
@xinfinity: yes, I got my flu shot a few weeks ago from my primary care physician. Good luck finding one!
pomelo / 5228 posts
@msmug: Yay, congrats! On everything but the fire alarm that is We are doing the NT scan. DH wants to know as much as possible, and I don't want to go too far in between ultrasounds. Scheduled for 2/4!
So curiosity got the best of me, and I downloaded that fetal heartbeat app. I'm not confident that it worked, but it picked up something faint that seemed regular and fast enough to be a heartbeat, but it was so faint I have a hard time believing that's what it really was. Also, I noticed that the sample recordings within the app are awful! Makes me not at all confident that it will ever work.
pear / 1974 posts
@Mrs.Someone: i put it on my heart and it definitely picked up my heartbeat for sure, but i honestly doubt it will work until late into the third trimester for me.
ok. so i get why people said if you have anxiety, the doppler may not be the best thing for you. i found the heartbeat yesterday, after a long time and a couple breaks. today, nothing! I can't find it for the life of me, and i really don't want to be using it every day but i wanted to record it i might need a break from the doppler for a couple of days...

@msmug: Congratulations!!! So glad your appointment went well. Our nt scan is tomorrow. I also had this scan during my first pregnancy and it really put some of my fears/ anxiety at ease by knowing as much information as possible.
pomelo / 5228 posts
@chibee: Yea, I agree that it probably won't work, but it gave me a tiny bit of reassurance that it *might* have been what I heard. Probably not, but better than nothing I think And sorry you didn't have good doppler luck today
Think of how tiny that heart is, and how deep inside of you baby is, and maybe finding it just seems like tough thing to do?
bananas / 9357 posts
@xInfinity: I've been putting off the flu shot. I still need to get mine.
@chibee: sorry you had no luck today. I make a rule for myself that I can only use the doppler 1-2 times a week. That baby is soooo tiny right now, so it's really normal to not be able to find the HB.

@msmug: Congratulations!!! I am so excited for our due date month twin twin money (say that three times fast!).
ETA: I'm such a nerd for how cute I thought that was.

@msmug: congrats on being released!!!
here's my thought on the NT Scan. It won't change anything for us. We will still love and keep the baby no matter what. Unless of course quality of life is an issue then we will seriously have to think about it.
But I believe knowledge is power. Knowing is half the battle and will help us prepare for what is the inevitable. Being a first time parent is hard enough. You don't need to be shocked with anything on top of that; if it can be helped.
pomegranate / 3895 posts
@chibee: Don't worry! I think we are due date twins (I can't remember) and I read online that our baby has started moving a little. It could be that the way he/she is flipped you couldn't pick it up or potentially he/she was moving. I'm sure you will get it today!
@xInfinity: I got the flu shot, but only because the flu is fairly rampant where I live. When I was younger that my sister got really bad pneumonia from the flu (was hospitalized for 2 weeks) and she became a priority flu shot person. I remember being told that certain people are able to be considered "priority" and I could have sworn that pregnant people were on that list. You could try calling your doctor's office and saying that you are pregnant and need to be first on the list of the next batch they get?
@Mrs.Someone: We decided on the NT scan for the same reason. So now I have a 12 week check-up on 2/3 and the NT scan on 12/7. I'd be lying if I didn't say I'm pretty pumped to check-in (even if via doppler) the baby twice in one week.
Lastly, a girl whose husband I was friends with in college announced her pregnancy on facebook last night. It completely confused my two best friends (who know I am pregnant) because her due date is 3 weeks after mine. I mean more power to her, but 7 weeks and a Facebook announcement? Brave!!
pomegranate / 3895 posts
@locavore_mama: That is exactly what I keep telling my husband. I keep repeatedly saying that knowledge is power and that I would want to research and expose myself to any and everything to make sure that I was best prepared for my baby.
ETA: Sorry for the series of small novels... with the new job I can only catch-up in the mornings!
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
@msmug: Congrats on being released to the OB! We are doing the NT scan just to check on babe again and know what we may be up against.
@chibee: I'm sorry you couldn't find it. I would wait another few days and try again. I like the idea of recording it though. I think I would feel good listening to a recording without the stress of actually using the doppler. Our office has a strict "no cameras or phones" policy in the ultrasound room.
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
@BakerBee: I know a few people in August that have announced really early. One was probably a pee stick that wasn't try, another around 8 weeks, and a friend announced at work around 5 weeks!
I am not that brave! When we really start telling people around 12 weeks it still will stay off Facebook for a while!

Had my NT scan today. Baby cooperated beautifully and we gt to see him/her flip all around and even some kicking! Heartbeat was a good 163bmp. I have an anterior placenta again so probably won't feel kicks until later than usual.

@Mrs.Someone, @Phxbee, @bakerbee, @locavore_mama, @T.H.O.U.: thanks! i'm still laughing when i think about how i was basically nekkidd from the waist down and I'm wondering what I should do with that fire alarm going off.
@Mrs.Someone: What is the name of the app? Is it only for iphones or do you know if it works for android as well?
@bakerbee: wow people are really brave about announcing their pregnancies early! my coworker did the same thing.. granted it's #4 for them. but they are due only a few weeks before me and announced it over Christmas on fb! And haha.. I cant say 'due date month twin twin money' 3 times fast! made me laugh on the first try
For the NT Scan, is this something that is usually covered by most insurances? Or is this considered elective?
@sera_87: ooh what a cute picture of your gummi bear!

@msmug: Here is the link, not sure if it works on android though: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/my-babys-beat-hear-baby-heartbeat/id420859056?mt=8

I'm finding it a real struggle to stay focused, especially in the afternoon. My performance at work has gone way down and it seems like I get everything done sooo slow, which in turn just makes me more stressed out. I've been spending extra hours at my office every night to try and make up for it... Is anyone else finding it hard to concentrate?
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
@pui: Yes! I'm really struggling at work. Between being hungry/full/tired/etc I just can't focus.

@sera_87: glad ur appt went well!!
@msmug: i had to pay about $200 or so out of pocket for the nt scan last time. i don't think my insurance covered that much of it.

@msmug: haha money should have said mommy.... I'm going insane!

Yesterday I had almost no nausea which weirded me out a little bit. Today it has been back with a vengeance. I still haven't thrown up and I think it's partly because every time I get really close I immediately sneeze and feel better. Things have been bad today and I have been sneezing nonstop. It is really strange but better than the alternative!
apricot / 403 posts
@mrs. 64: I'm sorry you're suffering but I literally burst out laughing when I read that sneezing makes your almost-throwing-up sensation go away
cherry / 240 posts
@BakerBee: Yeah I'm on the list at my Health Unit but the problem is that the strain of flu going around here this year is taking down young, healthy people and killing them which means that everybody got in a panic and way more people got their shot this year so they ran out the first week of January. Sounds like they got some more from other provinces that had extra but they are holding them in case of an outbreak and for children that got their first shot but need the second one to be immune. So even though pregnant women and seniors are priority, it doesn't help when they aren't releasing them to anybody
