So I just had a tiiiiny bit of spotting, like literally 3 dots, when I wiped. But it was bright red. Should I call?
bananas / 9899 posts
@jmarionsmith: I had 2 tiny spots of bright red a few weeks ago. It happened after I had some constipation. Nothing else after that. I had an ultrasound a couple of weeks ago and baby is completely fine. I wouldn't worry too much!
nectarine / 2132 posts
@pui: ahh thanks! it was after a bit of straining because of constipation (tmi, so sorry!) so that makes me feel better!

thanks for the kind words, @Mrs. M, @chibee, @swurlygurl, and @kodybear! i am feeling much better after resting it quite a lot the past four days!
also, congrats @kodybear, on finding out a lil' boy is on his way!
like @thou, we are team green, and i keep having random dreams featuring a little girl baby.... and then a little boy... so crazy.
my anatomy scan is on march 10th, so at this point, i am just nervous about being sure to avert our eyes at the right time. any advice from those who have had one before about being able to actually pick out the little parts as a parent, without the US technician actually pointing them out? should i be worried it'll be super obvious and spoil our surprise?
hope everyone is doing well! we're all closer to being halfway through than we are from the day we (individually all) found out! woot!

@yellowskates: i was team green last time and the u/s tech was very good about not showing any area that would give it away! i would make sure the u/s tech knows in advance that you don't want to know. ours asked before we started so she knew not to reveal anything. she started the scan at the head, and once we got to the genital region she told us to look away. ours didn't write down the gender in our records so there was no way for us to find out by mistake!
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
@yellowskates: We told the tech before our scan that we were TG. She did have us "look away" for part of it because I think they are checking out the goods there to make sure everything is developing appropriately. Plus going forward it gets pretty obvious! Congrats!
Our doctor's office was really good about not even noting in our chart if it was boy or girl!
blogger / apricot / 310 posts
@kodybear, @T.H.O.U.: awesome, thank you both! i'll be sure to let the tech know on the 10th!
i did actually get a blood test genetic screen (harmony) (the one that can also pull out sex), and when the nurse called to let me know the results of that, she didn't mention the sex, which i am hoping means they have noted on our chart that we are TG and so they aren't sharing that info!
thank you both for responding so quickly! cheers!

Pretty basic appointment today - didn't even find out heartbeat rate but that's okay, it was there. Found out i have gained a total of negative 6 pounds so far.
Anatomy scan scheduled for march 13th! HOW AM I GOIN TO EVER WAIT THAT LONG AAAH.

@sera_87: Yay for a good appt and getting your ultrasound booked!
I had an appt this afternoon too. HB was 160 and she found it within about 3 seconds so no time to even worry. I go for a blood draw for my Quad test next week. The nurse had called last week and given me my ultrasound appt for April 24 (which would have been 23 weeks) so I asked my Dr about it today and she is getting it moved up by 3-4 weeks for me due to our loss at 21 weeks last time. Love that she doesn't want me to wait and stress for that extra few weeks!

I had my 16wk appt last night and all looks good. We finally got to hear the hearbeat for the first time and that was really fun. DH was even able to get a recording of it on his phone.
anatomy scan is scheduled for 3/24 and 20wk appt is on 3/25.
I hope these next few weeks fly by! I can't wait to find out if we are team pink or blue!

@sera_87: @xInfinity: @MrsT927: Yay for good appointments!!
I've seen a couple mention it... Are you guys planning on doing genetic screening? I didn't with L, and don't think I want to with this baby. I could not handle any of the stress if there were any *possible* issues. But if there was a serious issue it might be nice to know... idk - too much to think about!

@swurlygurl: do you mean the optional blood test?
Assuming everything comes back normal at the NT scan finger prick we have no plans to do additional testing. We didn't with M either.
bananas / 9899 posts
@swurlygurl: We declined all tests, including the NT scan. The results do not make a difference to us so we figured we'd save taxpayer money lol.
honeydew / 7091 posts
@locavore_mama: Yeah, I think so. Although, they did a whole bunch of blood work this time - screening for all sorts of STDs. I can pretty much guess the outcome of those results!
pear / 1974 posts
@swurlygurl: At my NT scan they took my blood (just 1 vial) for "first trimester screening" - not sure what it entailed, but it all came back clear. DH and I like to have all the information that we can gather, and i really wanted to see the baby on the ultrasound again!

Finally went to get blood work done that was ordered 3 weeks ago. LOL
1) they were training a student and she was soooo slow and hurt my arm!
2) SEVEN vials! WTS. And I know in a month or two they will order another 9 vials.
GOLD / wonderful pomegranate / 28905 posts
@Mrs.Someone: yea, it was on the lab request....it was ordered at the first appointment. HIV, glucose, iron....don't remember what the rest was! LOL

@locavore_mama: I find it funny that they run all that STD stuff AFTER becoming pregnant. I guess better safe than sorry, but it seems odd (unless its a crack head or something...)
GOLD / wonderful pomegranate / 28905 posts
@Mrs.Someone: haha me too! Although they do check for that at your annual too.

@Aandmklover: He is 16 months. I believe our sons are pretty close in age, right? I never thought I would say this but I think I'm ready to wean him. I thought for sure I would let him wean himself and possible tandem nurse, but I'm really over it at this point. It's painful when he first latches on and I hate it. But I feel guilty because he's not ready yet.
@sera_87: @xInfinity: @MrsT927: glad you all had good appointments.
@swurlygurl: We are getting the genetic screening done. Ours is a state run thing. I'm not sure how other states do it. But I get a blood draw first trimester between like 8-13 weeks and a second blood draw I think 16-19/20? weeks. The NT scan is optional. With my last pregnancy my doc went over the results at one of my appointments and told us the baby had a 1:something chance of having various disorders.
@Mrs.Someone: I would think they would need to know if the baby would have a chance of catching a STD from the mother (like HIV).

@kodybear: here are some appointment dates for me: 16 week appointment 3/10, elective scan for gender 3/15, anatomy scan 4/1 - thanks!!

@mrskc: My son is 16 months as well. He'll be 17 months on March 3rd. I never really wanted to put a timeline on nursing but once I got pregnant I knew I wanted to wean with enough time that he wouldn't be jealous of the new baby. He'll already have so much to adjust to it will be much easier with out him tugging at me. My doctor really wanted me to wean too. Honestly, he's been sleeping so much better now that we don't nurse. Good luck in whatever you choose to do. Oh, I was worried Van wasn't ready yet either but he did amazing! I was so surprised.
cherry / 240 posts
@swurlygurl: @mrskc: The lab paperwork I have for mine shows 2 options. One is NT measurements and serum between 11-14 weeks (which I didn't do) and the other is Quad screen between 15-21 weeks. This is the one I'm doing but I'm not sure if its an either/or kind of thing or if you can do both. The timing of my appts with my doctor meant that she offered it to me now and its too late for the first one. It does just tell you the probability of things...its not yes or no answers but after the loss of our last pregnancy I want all the info I can get, especially if something were to go wrong again in this pregnancy. We got no answers to why it happened last time.

@sera_87: @xInfinity: @MrsT927: Yay for great appointment!
I just found out Virginia College in my city (and I think everywhere) has an ultrasound school and we can go in early to find out gender for FREE. We are so excited! We are just trying to decide on when we want to go. We want to be sure we can see the parts since we have to take off work.
ETA: I promise I'm still going to the doctor -- I just never have my calendar with me to give the dates. I just realized I haven't been on that list since I think January.
GOLD / wonderful pomegranate / 28905 posts
@Aandmklover: @mrskc: I have been struggling with the same. My daughter is 22 months and we both have always felt we wanted her to be weaned by 2 years. DH feels more firmly about this than I currently do. I feel a lot of guilt for weaning before she's ready. But some mom's in my mom group brought up a good point. She probably IS ready based on the fact that we had stopped nursing in the morning all week and she only asked on the first day and that was it. It is really bittersweet for me and I'm not sure *I'm* ready!
But with as much nights DH has to work I just don't think it's feasible for me to still be nursing our toddler with a newborn.

@locavore_mama: I was in the same boat and it was hard! She was 18 months and not really happy about it but we easily got down and then just had to stop it.
bananas / 9357 posts
@T.H.O.U.: how did you end up stopping? Right now he only nurses when he wakes up and I nurse him down for his nap. I'm not sure how to drop these nursing sessions because I think they're mostly just comfort for him.

With a bit of jealousy, I've seen a few ladies mention negative weight gains to date, but I am certainly not in that camp. So far I am +10 from my first appointment. I'm a person who has struggled with my weight my whole adult life and seeing the number on the scale going up is really tough for me. I logically know that I need to gain to make sure baby is healthy, but it's just such an emotionally and physically slippery slope. I tend to be an all-or-nothing eater or dieter. Meaning I am very good and in losing mode and watching what I eat and controlling calories, or it's a bit of a free for all.
I talked to the midwife at my appointment this week and she told me that I was doing fine and to try to focus more on what the food was giving me and baby, as opposed to whether it would make me gain weight. A nice dinner with protein and iron and fiber and vitamins is way better than a box of girl scout cookies even if the calories are the same. My goal for the next month is to focus on what the food is giving me as opposed to the scale and we'll see how I do.
Anyone else struggling with this? Advice? Tips?
