@MrsT927: I absolutely agree with your midwife. Now is NOT the time to go on a diet. I would just be conscious of what you are eating and make sure most of it is good for you and baby. If you think the numbers will bother you just ask that they not tell you and look away when they weigh you.
I gained 40+ with M and my OB said not a word! I think some doctors are more stringent about staying within that "recommended" range while others have a more laissez faire approach that if you are still healthy and so is baby then all is good.

@MrsT927: I am in this exact same boat. I am 10 lbs up (maybe 12 if I'm honest with myself) from my first appointment. It's been really hard to me because I've struggled with eating disorder stuff in the past and I don't do well with gaining weight. I think your midwife's advice is really great - if you focus on the nutrients you are getting as opposed to the calories / your weight, you will at least find yourself in a better head space. I think my big fear is that my doctor will tell me that I'm gaining too much weight - she's never indicated to me that she would do this, but I beat myself up about my weight so much. I'm still weighing every day, which I think I need to stop. I should probably take your midwife's advice too -- step away from the scale and focus on being a good provider to my baby.
I can tell you that a lot of tears have been shed over not fitting in things and feeling "fat." It makes me even more sad, though, that I'm not giving my body the benefit of the doubt and assuming that I'm gaining at least some of the weight because my body and the baby need it.
So, no real advice here... just hugs and a LOT of understanding. Let's hope that the time change allows us to go on romantic walks with our husbands and that we're just front end gainers!

Feeling any movement yet? Yep, this LO is super active in the afternoons
Symptoms? Nothing right now. Though I've been pretty restless this past week, not sure if its the pregnancy though.
Most excited about: Meeting my baby!
Most worried/nervous about: Never sleeping again, and losing track of 'me' once I'm a mom...
purchase any baby gear yet? not yet... contemplating buying a stroller and car seat from my work bulletin board today though..

@MrsT927: I'm right there with you. I'm up 15 pounds already since I found out. I think I gained a lot in the first tri because I never really threw up, but I had eat carbs constantly to keep the nausea away. At my appointment this week my doc said I need to be really careful and think about cutting out carbs and juices. When I mentioned I replaced my morning coffee with a glass of OJ, she said "I'd rather you drink the coffee...way less sugar". I'm just trying to mindful the rest of the pregnancy... I don't feel like I'm eating junk, or eating much differently than before. I'm looking forward to warm weather so I can walk outside again and get some exercise that way...

@LOCAVORE_MAMA @bakerbee @jennypenny: thanks for the support ladies!! It's sometimes nice to just hear a 'me too!' so it doesn't seem like the big deal my head has made it out to be.

@MrsT927 Hang in there! You are not alone! I'm up 15 lbs at 17-weeks and I was already 10 lbs up from my pre- pregnancy weight with LO #1. Carbs are not my friend when it comes to weight gain and they have been the majority of my diet during my morning sickness hell. I've had weight issues since childhood (related to a wacky thyroid) and at times it freaks me out as the weight creeps on. I was at my thinnest right before becoming pregnant with LO #1, so it's been hard not to compare and get upset. I'm doing my best to eat as healthy as possible, but I'm not as worried this time. I'm trying to enjoy it a little more and not let the weight be such a big issue. The end result is amazing and miraculous so I'm trying to think about that instead!

Feeling any movement yet? Maybe? nothing i'm 100% sure is baby. I have an anterior placenta again though so it's sorta thumpy instead of fluttery.
Symptoms?
TIRED. SO TIRED. Little bit of nausea. I also have to pee every six seconds.
Most excited about: finding out the sex!
Most worried/nervous about: Nothing much, to be honest. I figure there's not much I can do if something goes wrong.
purchase any baby gear yet? Nope.

Most worried/nervous about: i'm just nervous every day that something is wrong, and it's been a fear from day 1 but it's gotten a lot better.

Team pink, blue or green? PINK!
Feeling any movement yet? I don't think so.
Symptoms? Bloating--still! I'm still on Diclegis for the nausea/vomiting and still feeling pretty nauseated in the evenings and vomiting about once a week. I'm really struggling with headaches--they're migraines (though not particularly severe ones for me--but crippling nonetheless) that last about 24 hours at a time, even while sleeping (I wake up throughout the night with the continuing headache pain). I've also recently developed heartburn.
Most excited about: Choosing baby gear, nursery planning and hopefully getting a real bump soon (instead of the "thickness" I have going on now)!
Most worried/nervous about: Currently I'm actually not worried about anything...except maybe that the morning sickness will not go away soon!
Purchase any baby gear yet? I haven't bought anything myself yet, though I've been reading and researching and getting ready to register and buy some big-ticket items ourselves over the next few months. My assistant got me several little girl onesies and a stuffed mouse toy this week--our very first baby stuff in the house!

How far along? 17w tomorrow!
Team pink, blue or green? Team Green!
Feeling any movement yet? I think so? Random weird flutters, most often at night when I am laying in bed, really still...
Symptoms? Nope…just weight gain!
Most excited about: Getting a bigger bump, decorating the nursery, feeling movement that the hubs can feel as well (he's so excited!)
Most worried/nervous about: Gaining too much, ensuring the baby is developing and getting the right nutrients, and I've recently started confronting the realities of labor and birth… eek!
Purchase any baby gear yet? Just a few small things but nothing big yet!
Also, @MrsT927, just chiming in to say YES. I had a month of nausea that was only controlled via eating…every hour. And cooked vegetables were abhorrent to me at the time. So, at my second appointment, when the midwife asked how I was feeling, I answered honestly: "Chubby, fat." Her hilarious response? "Yes I noticed you are doing well in the 'gaining weight' category." Then she laughed and I am hoping that can be the response of the rest of my midwives: they won't bring it up unless I do, and as long as it seems that baby is getting what it needs (all the blood tests showed great levels of iron, Vitamin D and glucose was normal, so I must be eating the right things), they won't mention it.
This is not to say the HARDEST part of this whole pregnancy thing has been losing control of getting bigger. My thighs, my hips..and the ever expanding stomach area. I am also about 15 pounds up, and I was 10 or so above where I wanted to be when I got pregnant…so I hit the weight I thought I'd be when I was full term this week. I am trying so hard to stay off the scale and remember that my body will do what it needs to do. Once my stupid broken toe heals, I am going to get back to exercising and then I won't care about weight gain as long as I am doing something movement-wise everyday.
But honestly, I feel ya woman. So much.

@yellowskates: Thank you for the love! and your midwife's response was perfect. Sometimes we just need to laugh a little about all these weird changes I guess!
Are you doing a home or birth center birth? If you are starting to prep for the au natural route I highly recommend Ina May Gaskin's Guide to Childbirth. I am planning an unmedicated birth center birth and just finished the book. Lots of positive stories (some a little weird!) and great tips and things to think about in the coming months. Let me know if you come across any other good resources too!

Hey everyone! My 15 week appointment went well yesterday! Apparently my EDD is now the 22nd, but I think I'll just stick to saying the 23rd because I've told everyone that already.
Got to hear the heartbeat for the first time! Amazing!!
My 19 week appointment is March 31st. On Monday I'll be booking my ultrasound where I'll hopefully find out the gender!!!
