Calling all August 2014 Mummas!

@JennyPenny: oh my gosh, so exciting he got to feel them too!

Still waiting on feeling movement over here. My placenta is posterior, but I'm a tad overweight so that's probably the hold up. This morning I could hear him kicking the doppler though!

@sharpie: I've used it before, but not for morning sickness. I'm surprised they didn't prescribe Zofran or Diclegis. Phenergen (what it's often called) is Class C and Zofran/Diclegic are a higher class in the safety ratings. Zofran is Class B and Diclegis is Class A. Not trying to freak you out - just giving some food for though. Phenergen also knocks.you.out. I used to take it for sleep occasionally, as it is non-habit forming and doesn't make you feel hungover in the morning.

@JennyPenny: So jealous! I finally told my husband to stop feeling my stomach and that I would give him a heads-up when I could feel exterior movement.

@BakerBee: Ugh, that is annoying! I just trusted her. Whoops. I think I'll call and ask specifically for Zofran or Diclegis...

  5. LBee

    pomegranate / 3895 posts

@sharpie: Sorry to cause the hassle, just though I would share! I know people who have taken Phenergen and had perfectly normal babies, I just figured if you have the choice, why not try the others first. Maybe she had a reason for prescribing? Who knows!

@BakerBee: no, thanks for the heads up! Actually she even specifically mentioned the drug categories, but implied it was higher than Zofran. So, I feel like I should point that out to her

@BakerBee: It's funny. A nurse told me the other day that by Canadian standards, Zofran is not considered safe.

  8. LBee

    pomegranate / 3895 posts

@sharpie: hmmm, I just re-googled it and assuming Dr. Google is correct, I think it goes like this:

Diclegis - Class A (@stratosphere: takes this and loves it, I think)
Zofran - Class B (I take this and I like it, aside from the lovely constipation side effect)
    Promethazine - Class C

The "class" information from the FDA / US Department of Health & Human Science:

Category A: Adequate and well-controlled studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus in the first trimester of pregnancy (and there is no evidence of risk in later trimesters).

Category B: Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women.

Category C: Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.

@BakerBee: Oh, definitely, I see that too. But my doc doesn't seem to be aware (which concerns me )...

  10. LBee

    pomegranate / 3895 posts

@pui: Oh that could totally be the reason then! Maybe @sharpie is in Canada. I know the main issue with Zofran is lack of human testing due to it not being around long enough - they don't allow for large groups of pregnant women to just be put on it anymore and see if it works (like they did in the past). Go figure

So I have a PSA for everyone. Constipation is no joke! Starting Friday morning, I started to have some sharp pains that I thought was "lower uterus". It kind of felt like a pulled muscle. It was the day of my anatomy scan, so I wasn't too worried since everything was checked out. On Saturday it had gotten worse, and at times I was walking like an old lady . I already took something for the constipation, so I thought I was clear there. I woke up Sunday with a constant sharp pain in my right side, and DH convinced me to call the on-call doctor. She reassured me that it didn't sound like an appendicitis, just normal pregnancy pains. After that, more "things" cleared out and the side pain went away! I had no idea it could cause sharp pains like that, it was so in front, I was sure it was uterus-related. Definitely feeling better today!

I hope you all had a nice weekend

@Mrs.Someone: Scary! Glad you are feeling better!

Does anyone have any interesting cravings yet? Just like with my DD, I have never craved anything (unless carbs count to survive morning sickness)! My husband apparently gets them for me.

    @Mrs. M: LOL!!!

My cravings ate completely opposite than with #1! I'm all about banana peppers, spicy food and ice cream this time!

Hi Ladies! Sorry I've been MIA! DH and I came down with the flu! Luckily I had more severe-cold symptoms even though both of our cultures tested positive for influenza A. Baby has been doing fine though ebcause I am managed to stay hydrated and fight off any sign of fever. We're both starting to feel better slowly but surely!

And on a better front, we had our anatomy scan yesterday and baby looks great. Measuring 11 ounces and all organs look great. Plus we got to find out that we are officially having a BOY! So excited to start planning the nursery and becoming Team Blue!

@MrsT927: Aww flu sucks but glad you had a good appointment!

I think they told me too that little babe was measuring around 10 ounces but that seems high compared to what the pregnancy apps are saying. Who knows!

Thanks @locavore_mama about the tip on the Motorola baby camera! Just got back from Target and scored it for $131 (really $91 because I got a $40 Target gift card with it). That's over 50% in savings! They let me stack the 20% off coupon and the $20 off $100 spent coupon, even though the coupons say they can't be combined. Sweet!

    Anyone else having trouble sleeping?

I'm starting to have to get up to pee multiple times in the middle of the night and then the trouble is I can't get back to sleep because my mind is racing. It's driving me bonkers!

  23. sharpie

    grape / 84 posts

@pui: Yep! Same thing, I get up to pee then can't fall back asleep. Then, while I'm laying there trying to fall asleep, if I feel even a flicker of maybe-movement I get excited, then I'm up for good, basically. It is very exhausting!

    @MrsT927: Congrats!!

@BakerBee: I got the camera too!! (The bigger one though, so more $$ ). I wasn't able to use both the 20% coupon and the $20 coupon though, boo

@pui: AGH, yesss! These last two nights I have woken up around 2 or 3, just completely awake. I don't even have to pee or anything! I guess my brain decides it's had enough sleep? My eyes are still tired though, so it's a miserable several hours trying to fall back asleep (and of course I only fall back asleep like 30 min before the alarm goes off...)

Anatomy scan on Friday - I am dyyying of anxiousness!!! This week is going soooooooo slow. I've done so well handling this pregnancy (I get excited about things WAY too easily and then obsess about them), but this week all bets are off. Zero concentration!!

@locavore_mama: sorry about all that insurance stuff ur going through. so health insurance just ends when you leave an employer? (sorry if the answer is obvious, i just have no idea) i would think they'd have some kind of grace period.. but maybe thats thinking too optimistically?

  30. regberadaisy

@kodybear: just till the end of the month. They offer COBRA coverage. But it's more than my mortgage!

@locavore_mama: so sorry u have to go through this!! do u plan to look for a job before the baby comes or wait til after or sah? i remember you were kind of looking into other occupations that might be more family friendly as far as scheduling right? hopefully u can find something that is a good fit!

  32. swurlygurl

    honeydew / 7091 posts

@locavore_mama: Yeah, the COBRA rates are a joke. When I lost my job at the end of the year (and also had my whole family covered at my job) and HR brought up COBRA to me, I just glared at them... not really an option!! It was actually cheaper to just go directly to BCBS. I *really* sucks that you have to push your anatomy scan!! I know it's just a short amount of time, but it must seem like forever

@kodybear: thanks! Yeah, I don't plan to go back into a architecture office setting. But I still want to do something related. So I'm exploring options. I'm looking for pT or temp job meanwhile.

@pui: I'm also getting up to pee multiple times a night. I visited a friend last weekend and stayed at her house. I kept getting up and was knocking into stuff all night.

So good news! Finally talk to someone competent today and she told me I actually DO have health coverage starting 4/1. It will be straight up MedicAid. I just can't just choose a managed care plan until my application has been completely approved.
So even though my OB does not take straight up Medicaid I"m going to them for my appointment and then file for reimbursement with MedicAid. I checked with the office and they said out of pocket costs w/o insurance is $50 for the OB visit + $185 for the anatomy scan. So even if for some reason the reimbursement is denied it won't be crippling. And it'll be worth it to go in for the piece of mind.

So now my appointment has been moved up to 4/1. Hopefully everything goes smoothly with my insurance now!
