@mrs.someone: I saw on a different thread that you are taking a birthing class this weekend based on Birthing From Within. I've read the book and am also planning the med-free route (if possible). I am super curious to see what you think of the class and would love to hear about your experience with it!

@MrsT927: Will do! Think I'm going to get in trouble for not reading the book? I guess I could swing by a B&N to skim it.

The other day I think I felt my first sort of practice labour pain. I was asleep and suddenly had this super sharp pain in my lower back and cramps in the upper part of my bump. It was pretty bad, I called my DH from downstairs. Eventually the pain went away and it hasn't been back since. Anyone else experience something like this?

@pui: I've had that happen twice now. Plus, I had two days straight of tons of BH. At my last appointment on Friday the doc checked my cervix to be safe and all was well. I felt better after getting some confirmation from her.

@MrsT927: Just FYI, I posted my experience about the class on that thread: http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/natural-birth-classes-need-advice . But the short answer, I wasn't a fan.
@pui: Unfortunately, these pains are our new reality I've been having BH for almost a week now. I've noticed its worse if I'm tired or haven't been drinking enough water. The don't hurt most of the time though, luckily!

I made a post about my preterm contractions and hospital visit this weekend. Needless to say it was not very fun.

I have a follow up with my dr this Wednesday and I will be having weekly appointments until LO arrives.

@Aandmklover: Yeah I saw your post. scary! I hope things hold off a little longer for you!
pear / 1616 posts
@Aandmklover: so sorry you had to go through that!! i had to go to l&d for a diff reason (short cervix, bleeding, slightly dilated). i ended up having to get the steroid shots too (am i a baby or did those shots hurt soo bad??) and i am on limited activity as well. thankful i'm not in the hospital anymore and not on strict bed rest. are you still having contractions? hopefully they stopped! i hope our babies stay put for a couple more weeks until we reach term!

@Aandmklover: Responded - not very helpful, as I'm in the same boat as you, but hopefully it'll bump it up for some better responses!
I thought I remembered that DS came early? Not sure if I'm mixing you up with someone though.
kiwi / 506 posts
@pui: thank you. Since the swab test came back negative my dr seems pretty confidant that LO is not arriving in the next two weeks
@kodybear: the first shot didn't hurt at all but the second shot was very painful and I bruised so I'm not sure if it was the nurse or that I was in so much pain from the contractions the first time that I didn't even notice. The contractions seem to be worse at night than during the day but I'm still on high alert paying attention to them.
@BakerBee: thank you for responding on my post. Yes, my DS was born at 37w0d because my water broke.

Things are really starting to feel real, I just signed up for the cloth diaper service! Luckily, the first shipment doesn't arrive for a month...

@Aandmklover: hope they die down soon!! i don't know too much about preterm contractions. will they not cause you to progress into labor? hopefully the rest will help, altho i know with a toddler its so much harder!
kiwi / 645 posts
@Aandmklover: Oh my gosh! So glad things have calmed down a bit. Hoping baby stays put quite a bit longer!!!
kiwi / 506 posts
@kodybear: I guess preterm contractions do not cause you to dilate which is why it's not called preterm labor. I never even knew it was a thing until this weekend. Luckily I've had some help from family so it's been a pretty good two days.
@Mrs. M: thanks. I'm hoping we can get a few more weeks a cooking this peanut.

Gulp... I couldn't get my rings on this morning. Ugh! Summers in the South + pregnancy = fat fingers.

Anyone else getting super excited? I keep imagining actually holding my real baby and it fills me with so much joy I feel like I could burst! I can't believe that it's coming up so soon!

@BakerBee: I haven't been able to fit my rings on since a month ago. I miss them!
pomegranate / 3895 posts
@pui: I sent my husband this text yesterday: "I don't want him to come now, obviously, but I could really use some baby snuggles." I'm really trying not to wish these last few weeks as just a family of 2 away -- but I'm getting excited / anxious!!
Did you buy a fake ring or a band or something?
bananas / 9899 posts
@BakerBee: Nah... I'm just going ring-less. Everyone who matters knows I'm married.
pomegranate / 3895 posts
@pui: That's what I'm thinking. My clients know I'm married. I did notice someone staring at my hand at the doctor's office yesterday -- we made eye contact and they awkwardly looked away. I might have given her a dirty look.

@BakerBee: @pui: I feel like even strangers should give pregnant women (in summer especially) the benefit of the doubt when going without rings!

So far behind - work is overcrowding my brain :'(
@kodybear: YES to 2 pumps! It would be amaaaazing to not have to carry one back and forth to work. The number of times I was missing a part at work... ugh!
@Aandmklover: Oh man, that is so scary!! I really hope that baby stays in there! It's amazing what medicine can do to keep our babies cooking a little longer
@kodybear: Woah - I'm glad your baby is hanging out for now too! I feel like this month is all about the scary pre-term labor. I've been feeling kind of iffy and wondering if Sister is coming early, but she CAN'T - I NEED her to wait!
@BakerBee: @pui: Hah - my ring has been on my pinky for months now. So sad I think this young girl at the office thought I was trying to be trendy and different, or something, because she started giving me grief for breaking the sacredness of the ring finger or some nonsense. She definitely got an earful from me!
honeydew / 7091 posts
I am definitely DONE with this. Except work is so so so busy it will be a huge problem if Sister comes more than a week early.
I can't even really walk much anymore - everything feels SO bruised. Bones, muscles, tissue, lady parts - all of it. Like Sister is trying to kick her way out through my vagina. My Dr told me that we can get varicose veins in our vaginas, which could be what's causing my pains. Um... wonderful?! AND that second time moms have it a little harder because our 'structural integrity' has been weakened, so everything is kind of gaping open and not supporting the baby like it was the first time. (lovely images...). Apparently there's a product called a 'V-Support' to insert and help hold things up. That's when I lost it at the Dr office and started cracking up. I thought I had heard it all!
Besides that I suppose I'm doing fine. Just annoyingly cranky at everyone. I'm actually choosing to stay late at work so I can work without people around, and deal with DH less at night (so sad!). At least I'm sleeping well this pregnancy thanks to our new bed!

What's everyone's pre-baby checklist looking like?
Mine is:
Hospital registration
Order pump
Sterilize bottles/nipples/pacifiers (see if I need to get new ones)
Vacuum and dust nursery
Make L stop using the bouncer (she is OBSESSED with it, probably should have stopped that a long time ago)
Dust and clean car seat and bases (clean out car too)
Figure out coming home outfit
Figure out a name!!!!
With only 8.5 weeks left, I'd better get my butt moving!
apricot / 403 posts
Ahhh I have so much left to do on my pre-baby checklist!
Go through shower gifts and figure out what to return/exchange and what I still need to get
Call insurance and find out where my pump is
Get carseat bases installed in the car
Finish setting up the nursery (which includes a whole bunch of other things, like hang curtains, put stuff in dresser and bookshelf, clear out the closet, hang pictures/decorations, get a lamp...etc)
Buy and sterilize bottles, paci's. nipples
Set up pack n play
Figure out names for the kiddos
Clean and organize all the super cluttered rooms in the house!
So much to do! My scheduled c section date is 7 1/2 weeks away. OMG!

What's everyone's pre-baby checklist looking like?
So far:
Finish nursery - mainly curtains and rug
Install car seat and set-up all the stuff that needs setting up (PNP, swing, etc)
Wash all baby clothes and iron where necessary
Finish thank you notes from shower
Pack for hospital
Order pump
Finish off remaining needed items - in particular, bottles, diapers, wipes, etc - Costco run needed
Tidy up the rest of the house and try to declutter
Make freezer food
Take long nap
Get work stuff squared away to be out for 8 weeks
bananas / 9899 posts
Let's see:
- Buy the few last things we need for the baby (stroller, breast pump, diaper bag...)
- Organize every closet in the house (Bedroom closet, linen closet and front hall closet)
- Organize our nightstand drawers
- Organize/Clean out pantry
- Organize bottom kitchen cabinets
- Organize the shelf in the living room
- Organize hall shelf
- Wash my cloth diapers
- Finish up the nursery (not much left to do now! I still need to hang up the prints and the video monitor)
- Figure out how to install the car seat in to our cars
- Prepare for newborn photos (buy a few props)
- Go for a hospital tour
nectarine / 2460 posts
Whew - getting close. My checklist right now is
- Finish buying everything we need
- Order breast pump
- Finish nursery (its almost done, just needs some art and organization)
- Freezer meals
- Pack for hospital
- Stock up on postpartum supplies
- Install carseat
- Prep paperwork (I want to have as much of the paperwork for maternity leave, passports, etc filled out as possible before baby comes)
This list is already looking a lot smaller than a couple weeks ago, thankfully! And I plan on checking freezer meals off my list this weekend

To do list:
Everything!!
Lol, not really, but that is what it feels like. We may be putting in an offer on a house tonight and that would greatly increase the amount of things to do (freaking out a little bit).
Otherwise:
-Buy last minute things (stroller, more diapers, registry items still needed)
-Wash and put away baby clothes we have.
- Order pump
- Install car seats
- clean out cars
- finish setting up nursery (regardless of if in new or old house)
- go for hospital tour
- go to parenting class
- tie up loose ends at work so I can be out for 12 weeks
Wow, I really need to get moving!

@Aandmklover: Oh no! Glad everything is ok and I hope baby keeps on cooking! I didn't realize there was a difference between preterm contractions and labor either.
@pui: I'm sooo excited! I'm so ready to meet this little girl and hold her. I can't wait to see what she looks like.
@swurlygurl: yikes, sorry you're having all those aches and pains. And varicose veins in the vagina?! OMG! never heard of that. I definitely feel like things aren't as supported like they were last time. There have been a few instances where I thought she was going to kick the pee out of me. Lovely.

The main things I have left on my pre-baby to-do list (which, as a crazy person, I have as a Word document organized by month when I will complete):
- After showers, go through & purchase remaining items, return duplicates, etc (one shower this weekend, and one in 2 weeks, so I have some time left before I can do this)
- Shower thank you notes
- Get curtains for nursery hemmed, buy curtain rod, hang curtains
- Hang up wall art, mirror, etc in nursery
- Wash crib sheets & make the crib
- Wash baby clothes (some newborn & 0-3 months)
- Purchase chest freezer
- Make freezer meals
- Schedule newborn photography
- Pick out (but don't order) birth announcements -- I am crazy indecisive so I want to know exactly which ones I want so I don't waste time hemming & hawing over them
- Organize pantry, kitchen drawers, bathroom drawers/cabinets, and linen closet
- Purchase going-home outfit (so indecisive on this front)
- Buy post-partum essentials for me
- Stock up at Costco, Target, Amazon, etc. (household essentials, dog food, snacks/drinks, and so on)
- Arrange dog-walker, house cleaner (for first month or two so we can adjust)
- Arrange plans for dog care with my brother/brother-in-law (not sure who yet) for when we'll be at the hospital
- Assemble baby gear, install car seat
- Pack hospital bag
Plus a whole bunch of other stuff like get a manicure/pedicure, schedule dog grooming appointments for first few months so we don't have to worry about doing it, change the air filters in our house, have my husband wash the cars, etc. My list is kind of crazy, but having it all on paper has relieved a TON of anxiety for both me & my husband!
