@josina: I've heard that formula takes longer to digest Thames breastmilk, so they might be able to go longer between feeds. I don't really know though.
Logan just gave me two three hour sleep stretches! Yay!

It's going to be a painful Sunday. We still have a house filled with guests and I'm on the cranky side of life. C has been awake for about two hours with cough, congestion and a fever. My guess is sinus infection but she doesn't normally get a fever. Fortunately K seems relatively sleepy.
I'm ready for summer! No holidays and seemingly less germs floating around.

@josina: I guess it's when their scalp gets all red and flaky? I'm hoping she will enjoy it more as we get better at it. I also think she was tired and cranky already at bath time.

@Adira: nice! Hope you feel more rested! I got almost 4 hrs too and then 3 hrs! It just sucked putting her to bed... It's impossible and I end up nursing her to sleep
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@MamaG: Hope you get some peace and quiet soon and that C feels better!

@FaithFertility: Ita amazing what 3-4 hrs of sleep can do for you now lol!

@MamaG: sorry the holidays have been hard on you
I feel like spring is my goal right now (summer would be even better). If we can get through the winter everyone will be a little bit older, sleeping better and we can do more playing outside! I hate to be wishing away the days but it's the truth!

@Adira: @FaithFertility: it's amazing what a little sleep will do!
J went SIX hours between feeds last night! Unfortunately we spent the first two hours trying to get him to sleep. Womp womp. Nice to know he can do it though Five weeks tomorrow!

@josina: I bought them on Amazon. We kind of have an elephant theme going on with him, so I had to get them. He's still in newborn sleepers & onesies, but that white onesie in that picture is actually 3-6 mths (i heard Gerber is terrible when it comes to sizing).
M hates bath time, so he just gets wiped down with a wash cloth most of the time. Last few nights, he's been sooooo cranky. Cries so much & nothing soothes him. Started him on probiotics to see if that helps his tummy.

@MrsF: ugh I know! I so much time putting her to sleep... If she would only go down right away, I can't imagine all the sleep I can get!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@AngelicOne: I might be trying gripe water too next time she has an episode. I plan to just bathe once a week since it's winter and so dry. I usually just wipe her face/neck and hands too.

So I had been lucky for a while with diaper changes, but Logan got me good today! Peed all over both of us and a bunch of other things! It was the stream that wouldn't stop and I was panicking and just letting it go everywhere!!! What a mess!! Boys!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
Gahhh, it's past midnight and I haven't gone to bed yet! Logan keeps fussing at the Booo and won't stay asleep. It's going to be a long night...

@snowjewelz: N hated his first few baths, but he really seems to like them now. We do them at night about every third day-sometimes I don't even use soap so I don't dry his skin out. The warm water has a really soothing impact on him, and is becoming part of our loose bedtime routine. Even if he's screaming his head off he'll calm down once he's sitting in the warm water. Hope it gets better!
@Adira: Sorry you got hosed! I actually was super nervous about this having cared for infant boys before, but having the next diaper ready to go has helped me catch mishaps for the most part!
I'm hoping to be more of a regular voice in this thread now that the holidays are over, our visitors are gone, and we're (hopefully!) settling into a routine. N is 6.5 weeks old, and my goal is to get him on a schedule during the day. He's a very sensitive baby (gets overstimulated easily, gets overtired easily, etc.), and I have a feeling he'll be SO much happier with some predictability. As will his mama . I have a lot of questions and thoughts about night sleep, so would love to hear from others how night sleep is going? At this point N goes down between 7-8 with a feeding, I do a dream feed between 10-11, he eats again btw 2-3, and then again btw 5:30-6:30. It's manageable (and definitely more manageable than when he was brand new!), but I'm really hoping that he'll begin to space out the night feeds soon so I can get more than 3 hours of sleep in a row. Any advice? I'm using the paci if it's been less than 3.5 hours between night feeds which helps sometimes, but I'd love any other tips!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@Adira: Hope your night wasn't as bad as you thought!
Kara naps well in the morning but never sleeps in the afternoon and then conks out in the evening (on us) and won't sleep when it's "bed time"! We spend an hour rocking her then I gave up and nursed her to sleep. She did give me a good 3 hr stretch...
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@ChiCalGoBee: I can't wait till I can introduce a paci! K is only almost 4 weeks and from everything I have read there really is no schedule. I honestly don't mind her getting up frequently, it's the not going diwn thats annoying? How do you tell that yours get overtired? I think mine does too but right now we don't even do much activity (we try to loosely go with EASY).
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@snowjewelz: It was... okay. He let me get three hours of sleep and then two, but his 4:00 a.m. wakeup was brutal. He kept fussing at the breast and then took forever to fall back asleep. Sorry to hear about Kara! Logan is similar. These babies are crazy.
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@Adira: 3 and 2 is about what I get. I'm really more frustrated during the afternoon/evening? Yes these babies! almost 4 wks in and I'm really feeling the exhaustion.
pomelo / 5298 posts
K finally slept really well. The trade off is c is sick. I'm so afraid she has the flu. I'll be getting her to dr just as soon as they open today. I pray is not the flu since I still have a house full if family. Thankful if they help today though. But I hope we all don't get this.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@snowjewelz: Evenings are definitely the hardest. It's when Logan wants to cluster feed and he gets wicked fussy at the breast and is hard to get back to sleep. Although that ended up being around midnight for me last night, when normally it's closer to 9:00 p.m.!
@MamaG: Oh man!! Sorry to hear C is sick! I really hope it's not the flu!
pomelo / 5298 posts
I love our pedi, in and out before 9:00. C has bronchitis, which is certainly better than the flu. She's just anti medicine right now, so twice per day I will need to bribe her.

@ChiCalGoBee: Glad you're settling into a bit of a routine. J is only 5 weeks today, so we're not any further along than you are in terms of sleep. I'm trying to be more intentional about his daytime naps as he's getting more aware of his surroundings. (He's napping in my room right now - yay!). We swaddle him at night and keep the room and use white noise. All of those sleep cues seemed to help my daughter know when it was time to sleep, so I'm hoping they'll develop into a routine with this LO as well! I try to use these cues for naps as well (although a lot of times naps have to be on the go because of big sister!). I think that with M these cues sort of took the place of rocking, etc, when she was a little older. She still needed to know that it was time to sleep.
I hope things continue to improve for you with some longer night stretches!
honeydew / 7283 posts
@Adira: Sorry Logan's been so fussy in the evenings, we're having the same thing here. I just want to veg after we put M down for the night, but I'm bouncing the baby on the yoga ball instead . Ugh. I hope you have a better day today!
honeydew / 7283 posts
@snowjewelz: The afternoons and evenings are tough for us too. I think I had a minor breakdown at about 4 weeks as the exhaustion really set in and the adrenaline wore off. It's only a week later but I'm feeling more positive. I hope things are looking up soon!
honeydew / 7283 posts
@MamaG: So glad you got some sleep and that C doesn't have the flu! That would be awful. I hope she feels better soon!

Urg- need to catch up! Hopefully with the holidays over I will be better At staying in touch!
Emily will be 2 weeks old tomorrow (time is FLYING by!!) Emily hd a dr appt on Friday- since she is gaining weight so well (over her birthweight - now 9lbs 6oz) I don't have to wake her up to feed her during the night! Last night she slept 5 hours and then 4 hours!
We are doing pretty weel with BFing- I think I have a slight oversupply- I have been pumping sine to relieve some fullness! I have a tiny stash started- which will help when I go back to work!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@MamaG: oh poor thing! I hope it goes away assp! And I thought of mani/pedi for a sec.. So wish that I can go get pampered at some point!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@MrsF: yeah I think I'm hitting that point! She hardly naps now during the day or has to be on us and I so desperate want my breaks back! I don't know how to encourage napping and still have some awake/activity time without over stimulating!

@ChiCalGoBee: I feel you on the quite down time part too..... my mom and sister left today, and we have the house back just us three. They are moving back down to FL so I was truly not sad to see them go they will be back in a few weeks. I have a lot of questions too.... but we are pretty new so I am thinking we are doing pretty good!
@MamaG: Sorry your LO is sick! Glad you got in to the DR. hoping for a quick recovery!
@cheert16: Aww that is awesome I am hoping we are up on our weight tomorrow too! We will be one day shy of 2 weeks old. Last week we were down, but that was normal, but not by much only a few ounces. Those stretches of sleep sound awesome! Good for you!

We are 2 weeks old Wednesday and she is more alert during the day. I lay her on our laps and we talk and just try to stimulate her for a few..... she seems to enjoy it, but today fought a nap DH rocked her and she wasn't having it ......I finally took her and on my chest she passed out...... It makes me feel bad, but at this stage I now it is more of the BOOB thing then preference of parent.....lol

@snowjewelz: Hahaha I thought Pedi too......ahhh that sounds wonderful
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@snowjewelz: FWIW I really don't see anything wrong with nursing an infant to sleep!!! It's no more or less of a sleep crutch than rocking or a pacifier. Evenings are difficult here too. Last night between 4:30-8:30 R took a mere 15 minute cat nap. And then fell asleep for a deep sleep at 8:30 (I had to wake him at 11) when I was nowhere near ready for bed as we had guests. Sigh.
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@MamaG: sucks about your sickie. hope she is better soon.
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
Nothing to report here. Home from holidays had friends in town last night so looking forward to some boring old down time the rest of the week.
R is 3 weeks tomorrow. He's awake much more during the day but that hasn't translated into better night sleep. He sleeps maybe 2 hours at a time....usually less....he really seems to need to nurse every 2-2.5 still. The good news is this doesn't last forever. The bad news is it's been going on 3 weeks, lol. My older is in a much better mood now that his cold is done and he cut his last 2 year molar. Yay for a teething break before the baby starts in!

@MamaG: Bummer she has bronchitis! But glad it's not the flu. Hope she feels better soon!
@cheert16: Wow! That's awesome weight gain!! And yay for the long sleep stretches! I hope she keeps them up!
@FaithFertility: Don't feel bad! My husband has JUST started being able to get Logan to sleep without my help. Before it was only me that could do it, so you guys will get there!

Thanks all, my anxiety point is sickness. It does a number on me and it's hard with all these people here while I'm feeling anxious. But I've been able to hand off baby and just focus on me and C. I really hoped my anxiety would improve as she aged.
