@whenoceansrise: have you tried other milk, like almond/coconut?
nectarine / 2053 posts
@snowjewelz: nope. my plan was just to wait until his doctors appointment and see what his pedi thinks.

@whenoceansrise: It took Xander a little while to get used to drinking milk from a sippy when he was used to getting it from the breast or a bottle. I would keep offering and he'll get the hang of it.
We're in the process of bottle weaning Logan and he's not a fan. Yesterday he had 4 oz total for the day.

@whenoceansrise: I was told that if they are eating milk products like yogurt/cheese, it's not a huge deal that they don't drink much milk!

@Adira: we are not feeding bottles during the day, either (and I'm not nursing). Right now, we are down to nursing at first wake and before bed, and whatever MOTN feeding there is. I'm hoping that his MOTN feeding moves more towards 330/4 (instead of 1:30 like it's been lately) so that I can eliminate the 6:30 am nursing too and just bring him straight downstairs for breakfast! He seems to be drinking around 8 oz of milk a day right now, plus the nursing. Our pediatrician said there's no minimum amount they need to drink, so that's good!

@winniebee: With Xander, I remember our pediatrician wanted him to get 16-24 oz of "dairy" (for us, it was hemp milk instead). We haven't had our 12 month well visit for Logan yet though. We're still nursing morning and night, so I'm not too concerned that he's not drinking a lot during the day. I know he'll eventually drink more, and if he doesn't, I'll just give him yogurts and cheese.

@Adira: I think 18-24 recommendation is pretty old school, especially since after 1 the focus should be on food. 4 is lower obviously, but I think if he got up to 8-10 that would be great (even without nursing!)
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@winniebee: I think it wasn't necessarily milk, but just dairy in general, so 2-3 cups of whatever, whether that's milk, yogurt, cheese, etc. I think that's still standard though.
USDA says 2 cups dairy for 2 year olds: http://www.choosemyplate.gov/sites/default/files/audiences/PlanAndWorksheet-1000cals.pdf

@Adira: oh i see - i thought you meant 18-24 oz of whole milk. i'm thinking i would probably full if i drank that much whole milk : )
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@winniebee: haha, oh yeah, me too! For Xander, we focused mostly on hemp milk because there aren't a lot of calcium options that he'll eat (we got him to eat a yogurt everyday for a while, but now he won't even do that). I actually started giving him a calcium supplement because I don't think he's getting enough.

K had her holiday party at daycare today! She was quite big enough for most of the activities (face painting, cookie decorating, obstacle course,...). But she did have fun wish the fishing game picking up felt fish, throwing them down, and of course eating crackers!

@FaithFertility: Sorry to hear G is still sick. I think Logan is too. It sucks.
I think Logan might have an ear infection (or two). I could not get him to nurse at all last night - everytime I tried, he just screamed bloody murder and clawed at his ears.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@FaithFertility: Yep, he slept fine! He was grumpy this morning, but I gave him some Tylenol and he nursed okay, so hopefully he's feeling better.
