@Freckles: I'm sorry you had a rough night. It's so hard to move on from that.
I shouldn't even post if we had a great night... I'm totally tempting the fates.

@MrsF: I tempted the fates posting about a couple of good nights this week. I still shouldn't complain but that one really good night DH got with about 7 hours was a fluke
I'm just ready for us all to be over the congestion, Kaylee included now. I was reminded this morning that C had her first annual round of bronchitis at about 3 months old (Christmas 2011), I really hope we don't end up there with K.

Ugh I had visitors this morning so I wasn't able to pump in the morning. I keep saying I need to start pumping and still haven't lol! If only she can just nap by herself and not be held!

I forgot how hard the newborn phase is- especially now with an active toddler! Not sure what's going on- my son (2 weeks) seems uncomfortable nursing most of the time. I've attributed it to overactive letdown and have started nursing "uphill" (I'm essentially laying down with him on top). That seems to help, but he still sometimes latches on and pulls off crying. He acts like he's hungry (rooting and sucking on hands), so I will put him back and he'll eagerly suck, but then let go and cry. I'm not sure what's going on. Reflux, letdown, overeating...

Sorry for the rant in advance..... but I woke up to my right nipple that was chapped, now basically has an open sore on the side, and it kills
I called OB and my LC...
LC said that it should not be getting worse unless baby has a bad latch or lip/lounge tie
LC has seen baby latch and so has Pedi so she suspects a tie of some sort, I looked it up and don't see any signs of either.... but who knows so I made an apt at an ENT DR just in case...
But OB was suppose to call in a prescription for me for a cream to help heal nipple.... but no call back yet, I called twice, it has to be made at a special pharmacy that closes at 5 and is closed over the weekend...ughhhhhh!!!
It is just so frustrating....I don't want it to get infected....

@ustechie: ohh I am sorry, it is hard... I am having nipple issues....BF is no joke such a science

@snowjewelz: G is loving napping and being held.....lol her new spot is DH chest, I swear she would never wake up....lol
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@FaithFertility: oh no! Do you have other creams to get by for now? I hope the ENT will get you some answers! The whole tie thing is very confusing. DD had it clipped, apparently it can be clipped more but we elected not to for now...
eggplant / 11861 posts
@snowjewelz: No, they FINALLY called me back it should be ready in about an hour at the pharmacy!
I am so afraid of her having it, but from what I read today it is really no big deal....
Ohh and I have been doing the football hold on that side and it feels a lot better, since she is sucking from a different angel. So I am hoping it heals soon!
I also read that a lip/lounge tie symptom is low weight gain and as of Tuesday she didn't gain any weight, so maybe we are on to something! I just want to know/or get it fixed for her!!!
I just don't understand why Pedi or hospital doesn't check for these things.....ughhh being a first time parent is stressful at times....lol
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@FaithFertility: it shouldn't be! She got hers clipper at like 5 days old. Didn't even bleed and took 2 secs. Apparently there are also doctors they do laser. I was frustrated too; pedi and LC diagnosed her, we went to ENT to one doc to get clipped (not the one they told me to see bc I was so worried I wanted same day appt). Went back to ped, they said she stil has one so went back to see Ent and he said she has posterior TT but it is minor and it might or might not make nursing. Better. However bc I'm already using shield for my flat nipples I figure clipping it further won't really change anything.
eggplant / 11861 posts
@snowjewelz: yeah, I have read it is no biggie, I looked and like I said see no signs but what do I know!
Thanks for your story.....I hope it is a good outcome like yours!
Do you like the shields? I was thinking to do it on the right side as I heal?
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@FaithFertility: all professionals will prob tell you not to use one since you will have to wean and can cause nipple confusion. Maybe nurse on one side for now and pump the other?
I do like the shield (took a while to figure out I had a too big one tho), otherwise she has trouble latching bc my nipples don't come out. I try to get her to latch mid way through eating when my nipple is already drawn out. I read that some ppl use it the entire time tho with no problem..

@snowjewelz: It is so confusing....lol
I was told I can still nurse on this side...... but it kills me for a few I literally jump and or cringe DH cringes just watching me, but the football hold ref felt better.
My BF used shields her whole BF time , I truly forget why but she said DD was just fine!

@ustechie: Ethan is 5 weeks and just started doing this also! He will latch for a few and then screams/cries and roots around before latching again and repeat. I'm starting to think it's just because he is over tired maybe? I think he usually does it after being awake for awhile, but I'll have to keep track better to be sure. He never does it at night feedings, just during the day, an most often in the evening. Any patterns like that for you?
If you ask the ped. At your next appt. (Ours is 3 wks away yet) I'd be curious to know what they say!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@FaithFertility: yeah I'm lazy about remembering to let her try to latch on naturally! It's good that changing positions help! I only do cradle and not good with other positions lol!

On another note, G loves LOVES when we sing! You are my sunshine is our go to song and we added a verse about her she currently just sat on my chest wide eyed and listening
Now passed out! Ughhhh these moments

@FaithFertility: aww so cute! I love it when they just stare up at you with those eyes, all curious. Truly those moments make all the stress worth it!

@ustechie: Ethan went back and firth from crying to nursing for a half hour tonight... I think what finally stopped his crying was a couple good burps and some gripe water...
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@ustechie: Logan does that too sometimes and I'm not sure why! I think I have a forceful letdown maybe because he'll suck for two seconds and the pull off choking and start screaming. But just yesterday he kept pulling off and crying and didn't seem to be choking on milk, so I couldn't figure out what the issue was. But you're not alone in this!

@FaithFertility: do you still need a cream? My friend has one you can make at home if you need. It does sound like a latch problem or maybe a tie issue.
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@ustechie: mine does this when he has a burp or when he's not actually hungry just tired and wants to nurse to go to sleep but is full.
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
The past few nights have been bad. 2 hour stretches but then 4 am diaper change and hiccups and burps and doesn't go back down until after 5. Then up at 545 or 6 fussing again. Then huge spit up (like I have to change his clothes and mine). Then won't go back down. Today my other son woke up at 645. And my husband on overnight call and gone half the night so no help. So I've essentially been up at 4 two days in a row. Then Ryan sleeps all day to make up for it.
I think I'm taking him to the pediatrician this week. I know babies spit up a lot but he spits up quite a lot and is so burpy and hiccupy so I want to get the doctors thoughts. I'm hesitant to go with a reflux diagnosis but I should probably check in with the pediatrician. I'm leaning towards thinking it's just an oversupply and baby who likes to nurse....
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@winniebee: Oh no!!! I'm sorry! You must be running on fumes. Ryan needs to get the memo about doing longer stretches at night. I really hope you are able to get some sleep son. I'm curious what your pediatrician says about all the spit up and stuff. Keep us posted.
I think Logan has a cold. He woke up this morning grunting and stuffed up. I had to take the NoseFrida to him and sacked out a ton of mucus. Poor little guy.

@winniebee: awww thank you, I did get an all purpose nipple ointment that is compounded thank God, they actually already feel better!
I hope R feels better and the pedi has some insight for you
Hoping you get some sleep soon

@winniebee: you must be so exhausted We had a rough night last night but at least we've had some good ones to balance it out. Hoping for some rest for you!

Went to the pedi yesterday (he's 5.5 weeks) and baby J weighs.... 11lbs 13oz! He was 7,11 at birth so he's really packed on the pounds
We're getting lots of big smiles these days! J will usually smile back at you if you give him one. I can even see him trying to figure out how to stick his tongue out if he sees me doing it. makes all the crazy newborn drama a little easier
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@MrsF: great job with the weight gain!
I finally made it a point to pump this morning. 1 oz each side after 15 min. I read that it takes time so I feel ok about the output tho I've gotten 2 oz from 2 side before!
Is 2 oz too little for 1 feeding? I have no idea how much she should get from a bottle!
apricot / 358 posts
@winniebee: have you eliminated dairy? A has been super fussy and just seems so uncomfortable with feeds that I'm starting to eliminate dairy today. I was thinking reflux, but I'll start with this and see if it helps.
On a depressing note, we had our 2 week check and A still isn't back at his birthweight. dr doesn't seem too concerned since he's a big baby, but will have to go back in 10 days to check again. im just so frustrated- nursing my oldest was never this hard.
honeydew / 7444 posts
@winniebee: I am going through the exact same thing. He will nurse when I offer it but then spit up quite a bit (vomit like). We were up for an hour from 4:45 because after nursing he spit up soo much all over both of us...and needed to be burped 3-4 times before settling down. Sorry you had a rough night...I feel your pain.

@FaithFertility: I'm glad you got the cream! The APNO cream is a godsend!

@ustechie: Aww I am sorry.... we are right there with you on the birth weight We go back Monday! I am hoping for good news and answers.
I feed her every 2-2 1/2 hours during the day and 3 if she goes that long at night!
I am also asking about a LT or TT just to make sure since I have bad nipple cracks and pain!
Hope your LO gets back up the BW soon too!!!!!!

@Freckles: It is, but so expensive!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was $75 for this small tube!
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@ustechie: nah not yet. I've been careful about big stuff like not drinking milk or eating ice cream but that's about it. My first was dairy intolerant and it was a different presentation (green mucous stool streaked with blood) and very fussy. This one just spits up so far. I know that good sensitivity can be a trigger but I'm sort of waiting to see how the poo plays out before totally cutting it.
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@FaithFertility: wow! But it's way better than regular lanolin?
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@ustechie: I'm sorry about the weight gain :(. Does the doc think it's a spit up issue? I'm glad he has a lot in reserve!
