@BandDmommy: WOW! What an awesome stretch of sleep!!! That would totally freak me out too this early, haha.
@winniebee: I was actually thinking of you when I posted that that you have to deal with this ALL THE TIME!!!! I don't know how you do it!!! I feel like a zombie this morning!
@MamaG: Yikes! Sorry to hear about C's sleep! We're not as good at exhausting Xander at home either. Although we've started having him run back and forth from the kitchen to the living room just to try to get some of his energy out! Hope tonight goes better for you. And poor K - hope she feels better soon!
And yes to burps. I have trouble getting a burp out of Logan. Sometimes he burps easily, but mostly he doesn't and then he's gassy and uncomfortable and whiny and I can't figure out how to help him!
@whenoceansrise: I had been drinking decaf coffee at home, but today calls for full caffeine!!

@whenoceansrise: @adira: me too! So we'll see how we do today with just the two of us. I think she's finally asleep though after being awake for 2 hours-ish... So that's a plus!

@Adira: aww I am so sorry I hope maybe you can grab a good nap or tonight is better!

I haven't had any caffeine yet since I gave birth! I'll prob need it when I go back to work...
I feel really bad; the feed after I pump I have not much to offer her and she gets mad! Hopefully my supply will catch up!

DH is back at work this week. I think I may have jacked up working out though. I normally get B & D to bed, pump and then workout. It's 1 pm though and I just finished eating and B goes down for nap at 1. I guess I will have to work out on full stomach.

@winniebee: I didn't do the diet with M because she was already on formula so we just switched to nutramigen. I feel pretty commited this time though. Are you cutting soy too?

@Adira: I was so freaked out! I kept getting in her face and double checking she was breathing.
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@BandDmommy: I have no idea how you even squeeze that in to begin with lol!
I am sooo happy! At her 1 mo check up and she gained 1 lb 3 oz in 2 weeks! For this FTM who has been obsessed with feeding and always wondering if she is eating enough, it is such a relief! And she grew an inch

@BandDmommy: my husband doesn't think I should be drinking caffeine for the tiny but that goes into my milk. But after not having it for 9 months I'm over it, so I've been at least trying to limit it to every other day.

@Miss Ariel: I only have 1 a day. But I need it to keep up with my 2.5 year old.

@snowjewelz: That's fantastic weight gain!!! And further proof that your supply is great! Good job, Mama!

@banddmommy: it's frustrating how there are only specific times of day to fit in the workout and how one little thing (a late or big lunch, for example) can throw it off. this is my first day home with both girls on my own...K's preschool is still off and our part-time sitter for E doesn't start for a couple weeks. I'm giving myself permission to have a very unproductive day, other than taking care of the kiddos of course!

@snowjewelz: good job!!!!!
@BandDmommy: I am so impressed you are working out! I'm not cleared to yet though if I lived somewhere that wasn't 25 degrees I would at least walk. But then again I'm so so sleep deprived maybe not. I will start the shred after 6w and when sleep improves.

I got Ryan in for a check up today - he is 4w tomorrow and is 7 lbs even so gaining half a pound a week while EBF (and this is not a knock on bottles or formula or supplementing because I fully support those methods too). I'm just really proud that I've worked hard to get BF to work with him - and in contrast to My older son where we really struggled and I supplemented and topped off and was always worried and eventually pumped. And they are exactly the same weight in the end. I hope things continue to go well. Regarding spit up and possible dairy intolerance -- my doc (who is young and pretty conservative) really doesn't think I should medicate him for reflux or eliminate dairy for a variety of reasons. Basically she thinks some of his symptoms are likely just me having an oversupply and him getting more fore milk than hind milk (hence greenish poo) and that it sounds like I have a forceful let down which can lead to the spit up and quick nursing. And also that only a very small percentage of babies actually have true intolerances and she is more concerned about me having proper nutrition. Interesting how different pediatricians have different approaches as Older was medicated for reflux and I was told to cut dairy. I am going to cut major dairy anyways to see if it does help and see how he does.

@snowjewelz: Yay Mama That is something to celebrate!!!!!
We are up 7 ounces over here in 7 days so I am a happy Mama too!!!!!
I think this week I am going to start pumping and introduce a bottle to her maybe every other day or so, just to give my nipples a break! DH is excited
@Miss Ariel: I have a cup in the morning! At first it made me shaky since I had 0 pregnant....... but I have a cup and I don't see a change in her begin more alert or anything... lol
DH questioned it too in the beginning!
@winniebee: Glad all is well! You should be proud BF is no joke as I am realizing.... and if you can make it work I think it is best! If not it is always what is best for you and the babe!
@BandDmommy: Can I just say that you seem like Super MOM I hope to be working out soon! I feel like I can, but I will wait until my check up!

@winniebee: Great job on the weight gain! I feel the same way - M was fully on formula by 10 weeks after a really difficult breastfeeding journey. Even though M totally thrived on formula I'm just so glad that BF is going as well as it is this time. Makes me much more resolved to make the diet work, but we'll take it one day at a time!
Interesting to hear what your ped had to say. Our doc was sort of like "well, it could be MSPI or it could not be". She did say that she thought he had a pretty good chance because his sister had it - but I'm sure the thinking on these things changes all the time! I'm 100% convinced that M had it (tons of blood in her stool and she turned into a totally new person on Nutramigen), but I'm not sure this time. Makes it harder to figure out what to do.
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@MrsF: my husband was never totally convinced our son had it. he had a fleck of blood in his stool on one occasion which led to the diagnosis (but also green stool and some eczema). the doc just had me cut dairy and i did, but wasn't perfect about reading labels. i think the problem with elimination is that by the time you are able to see the effects it's 2-4 wks later and...if the baby is less fussy then, then it might be that the diet worked or it might just be that they are less fussy now. so frustrating that there's no straight answer! so, i think my first had a mild form of it (fed him cheese and yogurt around 10 months and he was fine). this one, i'm not sure but am going to trust my pediatrician (mostly) since she seemed very knowledgable on the topics. i do think reflux is over diagnosed for sure though!

@winniebee: Definitely agree that the waiting period makes it SO hard to tell what's really going on. I've been off dairy & soy for 3 weeks now but we're coming up on the 6 week growth spurt so I'm worried I'll misinterpret any crazy behavior as a reaction if I change my diet so I'm waiting. Then my DH is traveling for 4 days (OMG) so I don't want a crazy baby during that time - so I think I'll start re-introducing after he gets back and see how it goes. There's no easy answer! Thanks for sharing your pedi's advice and talking it out with me
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@MrsF: If it is working for you guys stick with it!! I'm a major wuss when it comes to the diet. And I don't think R is any more fussy than any other baby at this point (which that could change any moment!). So I think it makes sense for me to scale back on dairy (not that I was eating a ton of it...but I'm sure that Indian food and pizza did not help!) and see how things go. As for green mucous poo which I know your son has....do you think it could be an issue of oversupply for you?

@FaithFertility: glad you had a good appointment too!! I don't know why I haven't given a bottle yet and I'm hogging my pumped milk for no good reason...? I guess also it's b/c the oz I pump are all over the place. I'd have to wipe out 2 bottles at once for a feeding since my 1st 2 bottles are only 2 oz each. Today was better, 3 oz. I hope I can work my way up to getting 4 oz each pump so it's perfect for one feeding!

@snowjewelz: I want to give a bottle once in awhile at some point, but at the same time don't! I don't know its a weird feeling, since I am not returning to work this school year, I truly don't have a huge reason!
I am scared of her not wanting to nurse anymore, as much pain as I was in...it is getting better, I LOVE BF her!
My friends DD kinda gave up on BF once she gave her a bottle, but I know that is not always the case.

@snowjewelz: I think I am going to start pumping tomorrow, just to stock up! I just have to get it going!
honeydew / 7283 posts
@winniebee: I'm not in a huge hurry, but it's not the most convenient diet, so I don't want to keep it up forever if it hasn't changed anything. I'm sick of bringing turkey sandwiches to family functions or eating quickly before going to a restaurant because there's not a "safe" entree. Extra cooking and researching with a toddler and a newborn is tough. Of course, if it's helping then it's all worth it - I'd just love to know for sure!
honeydew / 7283 posts
@snowjewelz: Are you pumping after nursing? I've been giving a bottle once a week by just pumping right before I think J will be ready to nurse and then having DH give the bottle immediately. I definitely get more that way because I'm not waiting until he's just eaten. Another advantage that way is that the milk is pretty close to body temperature without having to warm it.
pear / 1961 posts
@faithfertility: I have mixed feelings about giving E bottles, too. With K, she had a couple random bottles here and there, once in awhile, until I went back to work...at which point she started having 3 bottles a day. But it was necessary since I was still working full-time. Now it's only "necessary" so that I can have some me-time or date nights. Not that those things both aren't important, it just seems different because it's more of a luxury/choice. I always plan to be back in time for the second feeding so that she doesn't get more than one bottle a day, and usually don't have plans more than once a week. Both of those are completely arbitrary "rules" that I am following, but it helps ease my mommy guilt a bit!

@FaithFertility: I know, it's hard to find time! I skipped yesterday bc DH was at church in the morning and we had visitors in the evening and it was bath day!
Don't worry too much about not wanting to nurse.. I had given a bottle a few items and she was fine. We do paced feeding to mimic the breast.
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@MrsF: that would work! But then I just feel like I might as well nurse lol. I def have to find my groove with this whole pump/nurse balance! I'm hoping my supply will up itself if I pump once after nursing consistently.

What's everyone eating throughout the day? I barely can find time to eat so I definitely don't have time to cook. I need some quick and easy meal/snack ideas!

Also, this cutie has been wide awake most of the day. Maybe he will sleep better tonight!
