@MamaG: Let me know how that goes! It's definitely annoying to have no clue how much she needs. I should've asked the ped when we were there!

I'm thinking of walking around block with babe, when did you start?

@snowjewelz: So you are topping off a thawed bottle with more? You don't RE freeze right?
pear / 1961 posts
@snowjewelz: i mostly pump/freeze in 2 or 3oz increments for now. if i have more, i freeze little 1oz ones separately. it seems almost like a waste of a freezer bag, but it's nice to have a spare oz if E just needs a top off after finishing a bottle. i think her typical is 2.5-3oz per bottle feed, though, and she's just over 6 weeks.
@banddmommy: amazing! i need to work on E's pre-bedtime cluster feeding routine. she has made it 5 hours once, but then i think hit her 6 week growth spurt and has been back to 3-4 hrs for the first stretch and 2-2.5 after that.

PUMPING
3 Oz for first time, and about 12 mins...G woke up and DH isn't home....I think that is a good start!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@KayKay: that make sense! I guess if I end up having s good stash then I won't worry as much about wasting milk but right now every drop counts!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@FaithFertility: nice! Hope you get lots!
I think my supply is doing a lil better, I'm feeding her post pump and she wasn't angry haha.

So there was just a blog post about storing memories for LOs... I started a gmail account for DD and wrote her an email! I'm lazy so this high tech route works better than crafts or physically writing lol.

@snowjewelz: ohhh I love that idea!
When we were TTC and going through IF I had this book on my kindle that I could type in notes, and I would pray for her and beyond... this was years ago! I need to figure out a way to print those pages!!!!
I can't read them now, I will lose it, but maybe one day

@snowjewelz: I love having gmail accounts. Both girls have one and I make sure to write emails annually for birthdays or if the mood strikes me. I need to make it more regular though. I just hope that they appreciate it and don't delete the emails too young.
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@FaithFertility: aww that would be so sweet for her to read one day! I def got emotional even writing that email!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@MamaG: haha I don't think I would let her read till at least middle school? I def didn't write for a child to read!

@snowjewelz: I think it just depends on the baby's size and appetite and the fat content of your milk. Typical is 24-30 oz but more or less are normal variations.

@winniebee: thanks for the news on baby Charlie. I had missed her last update.

@snowjewelz: j is 6 weeks and he's taking between 3 & 4 oz when I've given him bottles.

I'm Definetly curious to see what Ethan is eating... I last nursed and he did 9 min. On one side and only 3 on the other after some coaxing. I pumped right after and got about an ounce less on the side he mostly ate from, so I feel like he's not eating much? And he still usually goes 2 hours at 6 weeks.
He used to do 2 sides each time, so maybe he's just more efficient now? Anyways I have my 6 week check up tom. So E will be home with dad and we'll see for sure what he drinks.

@josina: My friend said the amount you pump and the amount LO gets when BF are not the same you will always pump less, your more stimulated and they suck harder!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@snowjewelz: I do that, but I do 2 oz to freeze because I like having the smaller amounts for flexibility.
OMG, my boy just will not nap today!!! It takes like 30 minutes of coaxing to get him to sleep and then he only sleeps for 20 minutes and is back up again. So frustrating!!
On a positive note though, we have an appointment with a lactation consultant tomorrow to check out his latch! I'm pretty sure he has a lip and tongue tie, but want an LC to look at him before I call an ENT. Plus I think I'll get to do a weighted feed while I'm there. I always love those.
eggplant / 11861 posts
@Adira: I feel you on the naps G just wants to nurse and be held all day! She will fall asleep for 20-30mins amd wake again!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@FaithFertility: So frustrating! But maybe they will make up for it tonight with some long stretches!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@josina: maybe he is more efficient or your letdown is faster now? K still nurses for like 20 min each side.. I don't know how much of that is just comfort tho!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@FaithFertility: I just saw that you got 3oz in 23 min.. That is really great!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
K actuslly had some good naps today! Held her for a while after nursing but no rocking. Then put her down and she was out for a good 1-2 hrs. I wonder if I should top her off tonight and see if she would sleep for longer...
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@Adira: oh good hope the appt goes well! Does nursing still hurt?
@josina: Ryan is a quick nurser as well. 10 mins one side and he is usually done, unless he is spurting. I have a lot of milk and a fast let down and he has tons of wet and dirty diapers and had gained well so I try not to fixate. Plus he eats every 2-2.5 hours. Some babies are very efficient and a lot depends on your supply, too. When I pump just one side I can get 3 oz in 10 mins so I figure he probably can get that much himself if he wants it. Try not to worry if he is gaining well!
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@Adira: if I don't let Ryan sleep after nursing he is very difficult to get down for a nap. I can try for over an hour sometimes! But baby wearing he conks right out. Maybe try that.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@josina: Logan usually only does about 10 minutes on the first side and then anywhere from 0 - 10 minutes on the second side.
pomegranate / 3973 posts
@FaithFertility: That makes me feel better!
@snowjewelz: I think my letdown is pretty quick.. And he will sometime go 20 minutes if he stays awake long enough, but I do think that's a confort thing.
@winniebee: @Adira Good to hear that 10 minutes 1 side is OK, he is definetly gaining well and usually a happy baby so I know he's not hungry.
Is anyone using a swing yet? We were gifted one and just got E to actually enjoy it this week, he didn't like it at first. Its amazing how quiet he can be when swinging, none of his usual grunting.

Yikes, it's been so hard for me to keep up with this thread. Hope everyone is doing well and getting sleep.
@snowjewelz: That's great!! Progress, my dear!
@Adira: I totally agree with @winniebee: on the babywearing. He is out within 2 minutes!
@josina: He liked the swing in the beginning, but now he hates it! I think it's because the seat reclines too much - we use a rocker which has him more upright. LO1 loved the swing though - lots of naps were in it! Also, do you have access to a baby scale? I did some weighted feedings to see how much he was eating.

I'm wondering what everyone's evening schedule is like with their LOs?
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
What are you all wearing for nursing tops? I'm so sick of nursing tank and cardigan or button down combo already! Also I don't fit in normal pants but maternity jeans are too big. Leggings only for awhile still I guess.
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@BandDmommy: nursing sweater meaning am open cardigan? I need some more tanks.
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@josina: we have a rnp and swing and DD doesn't like either! I'm hoping she will like one of them down the road.
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@Freckles: I totally was tempted to buy a baby scale! Our evenings are pretty generic. She eats/naps (well nap depending..) and we go upstairs for her last feeding that usually happens between 10-11 and lights out from there. We don't really have s bedtime routine except for last diaper change, clothes change and nurse laying down in our bed with dim lights.
