@Freckles: that's great about the long stretch! Sorry about the puke

It's -7 here with a -17 real feel. Had to schlep the kids out this morning to get T to preschool!!!!!
Another awful sleep night headed to my parents later for some helllllp. Thankfully my husband doesn't mind the baby sleeping on his chest at night but it's not sustainable! This is so strange. Like, I've done this before but none of my old tricks are working!

Geeeshhhh so cold, I am not even going to post what we think is cold.....lol we had the heater on last night and I put mitts on G!

@Freckles: That's a decent stretch! But bummer about all the spit up.
@winniebee: It's freezing here too! -6. Not sure what it is with the wind chill, but I am soooo not looking forward to going out later! Sorry to hear about your rough night! It sucks being a second-time mom and having your normal tricks not do the trick!
@MrsF: Love that!

@FaithFertility: LOL the fact that you had the heater on "last night" says it all. I've had the heater on since October. Haha
@winniebee: @Adira: that's cold! It was -40 on Monday but it's not so bad today...supposed to hover around 1.

Brennan's preschool was cancelled again due to inclement weather. Can you say cabin fever?? D slept 6 - 2 - 3. Of course, I woke up at 7 am to brennan yelling mommy and jumping on my head.

For the mamas that gotta head out, bundle up and stay warm!
@FaithFertility: as for you, stay warm foo, lol. I used to go down to FL in Jan, I rememeber I'd be changing to shorts when I came out of the airport and locals were wearing boots & jackets heh

@snowjewelz: hahaha I am from Minnesota, but you get used to the heat 24/7 so when it is 50 you freeze....lol
honeydew / 7444 posts
@BandDmommy: ugh my friend is in DC and she drove her kid out to preschool (took 1 hr) only to find out it was cancelled. Originally it was delayed opening but sent another notice out a little too late! B must be jumping off the walls!

@winniebee: I hope you get some relief at your parents' place - that's great you have help nearby! Yikes, sleeping on your chest all night is not sustainable at all. Hope it gets better soon!
eggplant / 11861 posts
@snowjewelz: Sorry I do live in FL, I am from Minnesota, so you would think 50 wouldn't be cold for me, but I am freezing!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@FaithFertility: oh ok I'm not crazy lol! I was starting to think I'm losing my mind haha!

So I got back from the breastfeeding clinic and A weighs 12 lbs 5oz! The doctor gives me this look and says "your breasts can feed triplets. You don't have issues, stop overthinking." It was a little weird because she was showing my breasts to the two residents. I don't think my DH has complimented me that much on my boobs before. Ha! He spit up soooo much in front of her but she said it was all normal so that's a relief.

@Freckles: Nice job!!
@Adira: I hope the Lc can help!
@winniebee: So glad you're going to your parents for some help!! sounds like things have been rough. Little guy needs to eat - his stomach is still so tiny! hang in there
Ugh, it is so so frigid here and since I'm in an apartment with a dog, I need to go for walks during the day with him and the babe. I have been bundling him up so much, but I still worry!
And I nicked his little finger today trying to cut his nails He cried, I cried. I felt like the worst mom in the world.

@snowjewelz: @theotherstark: I have to admit I felt a little dumb making an appointment with a LC but I feel relieved now...I really thought he had latch issues, which may have been affecting my supply! @Adira: I hope your appointment went well too!
honeydew / 7444 posts
@theotherstark: it is -16 with wind chill so I know what you mean...he was only out for a few minutes but I was so worried he froze. Ahhh, cutting nails will get easier don't worry! I had a few bloody fingernails with my first too.

@Freckles: always better to be safe than sorry - im glad he is gaining like a champ!! How old is he now?

@Freckles: wow that is coooold!! Yikes. Thankfully it isn't that cold here.
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@Freckles: always better to be safe! The ped said I can drop in whenever to weigh K and I'm so tempted to go every week lol.
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@theotherstark: Awww it's ok! I totally bumped her head by accident and felt sooo bad.. DH said babies are tougher than we think!
honeydew / 7444 posts
@theotherstark: He is 5.5 weeks old. Ugh, i keep hearing how 12 lbs is the magic number for sleep but why am i not experiencing it?
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Freckles: Wow, that's awesome!!! How old is he now? And how much did he weigh at birth? But that's awesome about your supply!!!
I just got back from my LC appointment! Logan weighs 11 lbs 11 oz! He's my chunky monkey. The LC was just like "Why are you even here??" haha. She checked his tongue and lip and said he might have a SLIGHT lip tie, but nothing to really worry about. She didn't notice a tongue tie at all, but did say his tongue is narrow, which could be part of his latch issues. She also thought my letdown was really forceful and so he was unlatching just to deal with the flow. Since I no longer have any pain nursing, she didn't think I had anything to really worry about it and told me to just keep up the good work.

@Freckles: Go Mama
@theotherstark: Ohh no those things happen!!! I am so sorry!
@Adira: Yay to a good appointment!
Where are these LC nurses you are seeing?? I feel like that is not an option for me?? I can call a number and chat but that is all I see as a resource?
I had a LC nurse at hospital?
I would LOVE to have them tell me we are all ok
I know she gained back her weight, but like @snowjewelz: said I would weigh her weekly if I could....lol
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@FaithFertility: My LC was at the hospital I delivered at. I think most hospitals have LCs you can meet with. Check your hospital website to see if you can find a number or just call them up and ask.
eggplant / 11861 posts
@Adira: Yay those are the ladies I spoke with they really didn't seem to give me an option of meeting with them when I called about my chapped nipple.......
We are doing good, but I guess for more answers I can ask to meet
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@FaithFertility: Do you have any other local hospitals you could try? I've seen LCs at both the hospital I delivered at and the other hospital in our town. Maybe you could do that? Or even do a google search for local lactation consultants? I know we have a store/mom's place that also has LCs near us.

For those of you that have already started pumping, how many times a day do you pump and at what time?
eggplant / 11861 posts
@Adira: I am sure I just haven't looked that hard into it yet!
@whenoceansrise: I just started yesterday! I pumped after her morning feeding on the side that she finished on (usually will only feed on that side for a minute or two)
I have been only doing it once a day!
I got 3 Oz yesterday and almost 4 today!
pomelo / 5660 posts
@whenoceansrise: I pump once a day. It's better to pump early but I have to wait till afternoon when my toddler is napping.
pear / 1961 posts
@whenoceansrise: i usually pump after her first or second feed of the day. i used to be able to pump after dinner, but she has been clusterfeeding a lot before bed lately, so i don't want to risk stealing the milk she needs.
pear / 1961 posts
@whenoceansrise: oh, and i only pump once a day. too lazy to do more than that, and have a pretty good freezer stash going with just the one time.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@whenoceansrise: I've been pumping at least twice a day, but in the MOTN, haha. When Logan does his 3-4 hour stretches, he usually doesn't drain both breasts when he does a MOTN feeding, so I pump for 10 minutes after he goes back to sleep.
When I DO pump during the day, I do it immediately after a feed. Ideally, I'd pump after his morning/afternoon feeds for 10 minutes. I don't pump after 4:00 p.m. because he tends to clusterfeed and I don't want to interfere with that!
honeydew / 7444 posts
@whenoceansrise: i pump in the morning and late at night if i'm giving him a bottle of expressed milk. i try to avoid pumping during the witching hours since your supply is usually the lowest at that time.
@Adira: He weighed 8lbs 12oz. It was weird because she said i can just tell how much milk you produce by looking at your breasts. I'm glad your visit went well - that's a great weight! After i told her i felt stupid for coming in, she said as long as i leave the appointment with more confidence and happier, her job is done.
pomegranate / 3045 posts
@Freckles: I hadn't heard that about 12 lbs! Hopefully it comes true for you soon
@Adira: That's great news! Little chunker
@whenoceansrise: Only once a day, around 9am or thereabouts. Just started yesterday though
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@Adira: nice! You did a great job getting him to that weight!
honeydew / 7444 posts
@FaithFertility: I'm not sure how things work in the US but my OB got me a referral to a breastfeeding clinic in our city. Another option is to see if there is a La Leche League chapter in your area - they are a great resource too. Oh, and i rented a scale - $45 for the week!
honeydew / 7283 posts
@FaithFertility: you could also ask your pediatrician if they have a LC they recommend. That's how I found one. I could have seen the one from my hospital but it's kind of far. I would also double check with your insurance company to see if they reimburse and if it matters who you see.

@whenoceansrise: I pump once a day usually around 1. I usually get around 3 oz, and have 28 oz. Stored... Back to work next Thursday.
Dh gave E a bottle today and he drank 2 oz. I can still get 3 oz. After he nurses so I guess I have plenty. I may start pumping more often since he will usually only take 1 side.
Cold here as well! 13° now with a -6°windchill... Today was my first day outside in a week. Even longer for E, I'm terrified of all the colds/flu going around so want to just keep him in a bubble!
For pumping... Is anyone using anything smaller than the 21 mm shield? I think its still too big for me and is still super uncomfortable... I found some 19mm shields online from an off brand and there are also areola stimultators that are another brand... Wondering if anyone has used either?
