K has a high need to suck so she has the pacifier to soothe her whenever she is fussy. She really wants to suck her hand, and I don't want her to
honeydew / 7283 posts
@snowjewelz: I started pumping right after the morning feed because I think most women have the most milk then and less as the day goes on, but I'm sure everyone's different!
We're trying to do paced feeding, but it's hard for me because it's DH doing all of the bottles. He's the one who will be giving the bottles while I'm at work so I'm trying to let him run the show and not criticize him. Ugh. I ordered the Calma nipple so we're going to try that and hopefully that will let him pace things himself a bit.

@winniebee: Glad you were able to get an earlier appointment, but still another week of hell. I'm sorry!
@BandDmommy: I'm so so sorry!
@FaithFertility: We give Logan a pacifier for naps and sometimes at night. It helps him fall asleep, but I'm not worried about it becoming a crutch because we did the same for Xander and were able to wean him off it before he was one. With Logan, I try to put him down for a nap without giving it to him, but if he's struggling to fall asleep, I give it to him and it seems to help. I'll also give it to him when he wakes up in the middle of the night if I think he's not due to eat and then he ends up sleeping for longer.

@winniebee: So glad that your ped helped you get an appointment! Still frustrating that you have to wait a week but I suppose it's better than waiting a month

@FaithFertility: We've never used them to sleep for either kid. I feel like they just fall out and end up putting it back in all night long. I just offer it to J when he's fussy but I don't think he's hungry or tired. He's honestly not that into it. It was really helpful with my daughter, but obviously each baby is different!

Actually using a pacifier reduces risk of SIDS.

@BandDmommy: I had heard that! That's one of the reasons we decided to use one originally.

If I give it to her during the day/naps do you think she would want it at night?
honeydew / 7283 posts
@BandDmommy: I have heard that before. Interesting!
And I totally wasn't trying to criticize anyone who uses a pacifier for sleep. I've just never figured out how to get them to keep it in their mouths!

@winniebee: So glad you finally got some sleep,and that you scheduled an earlier appt with the GI. Annoying that they won't prescribe you anything stronger ahead of time, though
pomegranate / 3045 posts
@MrsF: h doesn't usually keep it in his mouth for too long either.
I've only used it with H for our walks in the stroller. He isn't really a fan of the paci, and gets frustrated when it keeps falling out.

At home K gets her pacifier at sleep times, she'll let it drop and stay asleep (she's been snoozing in her swing now for well over 2 hours and hasn't had it for quite some time). MOTN, I will give it back to her if she's fussy (not normal).
I know from experience with C, there will come a point where she will be more dependent upon it for sleep and we will have to replace it for her until she learns to get it and insert on her own. Those were trying times with C - and about the time that I decided we needed to sleep train.
C had the pacifier until 17 months, and ideally I'd like to wean earlier this time.
C was never really interested in her fingers (that I recall), whereas K really is. I do not want a thumb sucker. I don't judge others who have thumb suckers, that's just not a weaning process I want to endure. I'm trying really hard to prevent!

@BandDmommy: I'm so sorry!
@FaithFertility: Micah has only taken the paci once. He just seems uninterested in it so I haven't forced it on him. I don't think I will offer it again unless I can't soothe him any other way.

Phew! Had a rough day yesterday.., K barely napped and was very cranky. But she gave us decent sleep; 4+ and 3+. She usually would only do 2 after her long stretch.

Thanks ladies for your input!
We had a bad thunder storm last night, G slept right through it
@snowjewelz: NICE!!!! Also she is adorable Happy 2 months!

@FaithFertility: hehe something floridians have to get used to huh! I bet it was like white noise for her!
So I sacrificed my morning sleep and went to pump after her 6:30 feed. Got like 4.5 which is the most I have ever gotten! I hope I can keep this up as long as she keeps up the good sleep for me!

@FaithFertility: Ryan is a suck to sleep kid. So usually I just give it for naps when he is not due to eat and to settle him throughout day. Last night he got it at one of the night wakings after I had fed him and he was asleep he pooped so I had to change him then he was wide awake. He spit it out after a bit and didn't wake up again until he wanted to eat. If he's anything like my first he won't want it after 3m.

@BandDmommy: I'm so sorry!!
We really just use the pacifier between 4 and 7 or so at night. It's the only time she really gets fussy, and that seems to lee her relatively calm
Also, I have a pretty big freezer stash for when I go back to work in two weeks and I'm wondering the best way to go through it. Just exchange a fresh bag for a frozen one each day? Or is there some other perfect way to do it?
nectarine / 2242 posts
@Miss Ariel: I read this thread because I'm an early January mom and like to see what's in store for us For my first LO I found it easiest to use all frozen milk on Mondays, then feed fresh (whatever you pump at work) the rest of the week, then on Fridays freezee whatever you pumped that day. That way you aren't dealing with frozen bags every day, but still cycling through your stash.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@FaithFertility: With Logan, I give it to him for naps because I don't want to nurse him to sleep, but he nurses to sleep for his last feed of the day (around 9:00 p.m.) and then I just put him down without the pacifier. I'll give it to him in the MOTN if he wakes up upset and I know he's not hungry. But if Micah is totally fine without one, I don't see a reason to introduce it!

Logan just had his 2 month well visit! 3 shots plus the oral thing. Poor baby screamed his little head off, but then he nursed and passed out.
Weight: 13 lbs 5.5 oz (80th percentile)
Height: 23 inches (40th percentile), but this was a new method of measuring, so I don't know how accurate it is

@Adira: I'm dreading that appointment! Poor babe, glad he passed out!!!!!

@Adira: Poor little guy. M had his on Tuesday & screamed for like 5 minutes, then he was fine. I may or may not have cried a little listening to him cry after his first poke.

@HappyBaker: hi that's such a great idea. I feel like reading these threads before would give you the most real idea of what to expect! Hope you and your LO are doing well!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@Adira: aww hopefully you have an uneventful rest of the day! Ours is tomorrow; I am armed with meds and will mentally prep myself for either nursathon or cranky baby!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@AngelicOne: ahh I hope I dont cry! My parents always told me this story where my baby sister was getting shots, I heard her screams/cries and started going hysterical myself begging them to stop hurting her lol!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@FaithFertility: @BandDmommy: @AngelicOne: @snowjewelz: Thanks ladies! So far he's just been nursing or sleeping since then. No fever yet though.

@BandDmommy: Sorry!
@Miss Ariel: @HappyBaker: I was wondering this too. So far I've been freezing everything I pump except for the 5 oz I pump before I leave for work. DH uses that and then frozen the rest of the day, but I've had to move some from our upright freezer to the basement freezer and the problem is rotating that as well.
@Adira: Busy couple days for Logan! Poor guy. Love our chunky little babies. Ethan was almost 13 lbs.
Pacifier - We try to give Ethan one but he can NOT keep it in on his own. DH will use one if he's hungry and its too close to when I get home; or we use it if he's crying and we're out or driving and can't feed him (but we have to hold it the whole time).
Still getting 5 hour stretches and then 3 / 3-1/2. Finally! Took 10 weeks.
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@josina: nice! I am hopeful! K is 9 weeks and we only got 5 hr once; she is about 4-4.4 now!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
The shots are starting to take their toll. Logan woke up screaming from his nap and then screamed on and off for 20 minutes. Poor guy doesn't feel well!
@josina: Logan has trouble keeping the pacifier in his mouth half the time too! It's so annoying having to constantly replace it.
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@Adira: those first shots are the hardest!!!! Hope you all feel better! Did you dose tylenol? I remember Tyler had the same reaction.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@winniebee: Yep, gave him some Tylenol because nursing didn't work and he wouldn't stop crying. He's back asleep now, so I'm hoping he's feeling a little better.
nectarine / 2053 posts
I may be doing this totally wrong but I haven't been using any freezer breastmilk. I used it for my first day back to work but everything else since then has been fresh.
@Adira: I hope he feels better!
honeydew / 7283 posts
@Adira: poor little guy J was super sleepy after his 2 month shots and then miserable for a few hours and then slept well again that night. I hope L feels better soon!
honeydew / 7283 posts
@whenoceansrise: I feel like it is good for them to get some fresh milk because it has the current antibodies, etc. I wonder what others do though. Maybe 1 bag of frozen per day to use some of it? I haven't gone back to work yet and didn't pump for my DD so I don't have any experience with this.
