This is a pretty good hospital bag list...

With regards to the list that @BandDmommy: linked:

I brought my boppy the first time around, but didn't end up using it. My stomach was too much in the way still and I ended up just using regular pillows for nursing in the hospital. I didn't start pumping until 2-3 weeks, so I can't foresee myself needing my pump at all at the hospital. We also didn't introduce pacifiers to Xander under he was 2 weeks, so I'll be skipping that as well this time. But the rest of that list - totally agree!

I've read other posts that hospital will provide pump if you need to pump milk during your stay?

I have a boppy like thing that I'll probably bring for nursing or to use as an extra pillow for myself or DH.

Earplugs is an interesting idea! Maybe more for DH?

I def have a lot more on my list, but I don't mind as I'm always an over-packer and as a FTM I just rather be over prepared than feeling like I'm not ready!

@snowjewelz: I was given a pump because my son was in NICU and couldn't BF. Not sure what policy is if you have normal delivery.

@BandDmommy: Hang in there, take it one day at a time

@Adira: Home stretch! To commiserate, my butt stretch marks are trying to move their way to my waist, I'm rubbing stuff on like crazy to try to stop it!

  11. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@theotherstark: haha, it's glorious! I guess I just got lucky last time when I didn't get cankles!

@snowjewelz: I'm still rubbing the cocoa butter on my stomach twice a day, but it is NOT slowing down these stretch marks! Boooo!!!

@Adira: I know I know it's all genetics anyway... I guess the silver lining is there are none of my actual bump so I can take a nice bare belly pic during my maternity session... Meanwhile I don't even want DH to look at my butt!

  13. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@snowjewelz: Definitely genetics. I knew I was screwed. Just bummed that I'm getting MORE this time around - I was hoping to just have my original ones from Xander and not get more! That's awesome that they are staying off your bump though... for now.

@Adira: They're creeping out from behind Trying to sneak attack me! Thank goodness we're almost there...

Anyone else have a baby shower this weekend? Mine is on Sat! I just want that to happen so I can then go buy out the rest of my registry and really finish up the nursery!

@Adira: I'm trying to get psyched for it! I'm introverted and these days esp I really just want to hide at home to rest & nest more than anything!

    @snowjewelz: Exciting!!!

Just got back from OB apt, nothing exciting to report. I've gained 1 pound in 2 weeks, so I'm at 18 pds through 33 weeks. Doctor just told me to be cognizant of contractions and to get my TDAP shot soon.

Btw, I don't know if it was here that we were talking about registry discounts... I got my target coupon book for my registry yesterday!

  23. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@snowjewelz: Yay!! That's exciting!! Now after your shower you can buy anything that's left that you still need!

Just got my lab results - platelets down to 54. I'm guessing I'm going to have to go back on prednisone... waiting to hear back from my hematologist.

  24. snowjewelz

    wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts

@Adira: What does that mean? I hope everything's okay!

  25. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@snowjewelz: I have ITP, which just means your platelet count is less than normal. Normal range is anywhere from 140,000 to 400,000 (roughly). Mine are currently at 54,000. Normally they are in the 70,000 range. Pregnancy can cause your platelet count to decrease (and there's such a thing as gestational ITP). Last pregnancy, mine got down to 34,000 before we caught it because we weren't monitoring them. This time we are, so they've been slowly decreasing over the last two months.

Generally, doctors want your platelets to be above 50,000 - that's still enough to safely have a c-section and not to worry too much about bleeding out. The anesthesiologist at my hospital wants them above 100,000 for an epidural (hence why I wasn't able to get one last time).

Prednisone is a steroid and one of the things it does is increase your platelet count (it also makes you super hungry all the time). I went on it last time late pregnancy (around 36 weeks when we realized how low my platelets were) and that got my platelet count up to 50,000 when I went into labor at 39 weeks.

  26. snowjewelz

    wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts

@Adira: Oh ok so it's good that you're getting started on it to make sure your platelet count is high enough! But it sucks that the side effect is that you're gonna be so hungry

@Adira: I am hoping not to go into labor on my due date because I am baking 200 cupcakes and making a cake for a wedding that day. I am crazy- what was I thinking when I said yes to this??????????
UI don't remember you having that with Z (or I am just forgetting everything lately) Prednisone sucks so bad. Hopefully your count goes up though in case you want the epi!

  28. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@snowjewelz: Yeah, I'm glad my platelets are being monitored this time, though going on prednisone sucks - I gained soooooo much weight in the last three weeks of my pregnancy last time because I was hungry all the time!!! Hopefully this time though, my platelets will be high enough that maybe I can get an epidural if I want one!

@cheert16: Um, yeah, you are crazy!!! Why would you agree to do ANYTHING on your due date????

And yes, I had ITP with Xander (I've had it my whole life), but it wasn't being monitored at all, so it wasn't until the very end that we were all "Holy smokes, your platelet count is low!! Gahhh!!!" I remember when I got to the hospital, I was all "Are my platelets high enough for an epidural?? Can I get an epidural???" and then they were all "No, they're at 50, you can't have one." hahaha - I was so unprepared for having a med-free delivery!!

  29. snowjewelz

    wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts

@cheert16: Whaat! What if you go into labor before that?!

  30. cheert16

    nectarine / 2631 posts

@Adira: I don't know what I was thinking!! Its my cousin and she asked me before I knew I was pregnant (and both of her parents passed away in the last 3 years) so I felt like I really wanted to do something the help her with her wedding- bam. Making 200 cupcakes and a wedding cake.
@snowjewelz: Well- that's not a possibility! Also my DH is a chef- so he could make them if need be!

Plus I was 2 weeks late with Bradley- so I just assumed I was going to be late with this one too!

  31. snowjewelz

    wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts

@cheert16: Your DH is totally handling this one then

@snowjewelz: I need to call Target. I never got my completion discount. When I called over the weekend they couldn't look it up but were willing to give me the code if I was ready to do an online order. I didn't know there was a whole book!

I thought in HLK208's post she mentioned sandy having her C-section in October, but I didn't recall a specific date.

  34. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@MamaG: Yeah, I thought someone said it was sooner than December, but I can't remember when. I thought she was planning on having maternity pictures done though in late October/early November...?

  35. MamaG

    pomelo / 5298 posts

I know at one point sandy was re-scheduled for earlier in November (before me), but can't recall the date. But I'm fairly certain in the fundraising post, it was mentioned to be late October, so in the next two weeks possibly. At any rate, it's soon. Hopefully someone will be able to post an update on her when she has Ava. I keep her in my thoughts pretty much constantly.

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@BandDmommy: I don't know!! We didn't do labor watch threads when I had Xander. What goes on in them? Should we wait and start one as soon as someone goes into labor? Or are you supposed to start them early?
