We used latch but on the passenger side for my first son. We will put the new baby on the other side.
Had another growth scan today and baby is growing along his own curve and is now a whopping 4 lb 4 oz :). 12th percentile which seems huge compared to my first. Ha! Continue with growth scans every 2 weeks and biophysical profile ultrasounds on the other weeks.

@winniebee: We're doing the same. Xander's behind the driver's side and the baby will just be on the other side and we'll be able to use latch for both. It'll be annoying not to be able to sit back there with them though.
Yay for 12th percentile!! That's exciting baby is growing well!

So I definitely had no idea about the latch system and the middle seat until now. I'm going to have to read my manual and figure out where I should install the carseat! I just always assumed I'd install it on one of the sides so that it'd be easier to get in and out.

@whenoceansrise: I thought the same thing! And then I read that middle is best. And then I read that not all cars have the capability for you to install in the middle, then cue clicking on a billion links and getting more confused lol!

@snowjewelz: hahaha being a first time mom is nerve wracking/confusing/exciting/terrifying all at the same time. I'm always learning more and more stuff I didn't know before and I'm like... "ummm, am I prepared?"

I installed the car seat in DH's truck for now (working on getting an SUV for me yet) and installed it in the middle seat with the seat belt and 'lock' piece. Hopefully that's right. I'll have to see if the Escape I'm getting has the Latch system...
I guess the question is what's safer? Using the LATCH system on the side seats, or the seatbelt in the middle?
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@josina: According to what I'm reading as long as the middle seat has approved methods to lock down your carseat (no matter it's latch, anchors, etc) then middle seems to be best. But I guess no all cars have that "system" in place, and some cars, the middle seat is too narrow or something??
I have a 14' CRV, a very popular car but I still can't really find 100% information online about it!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@whenoceansrise: @snowjewelz: Middle is supposedly safest, though it might be easier to install on the side where you can use LATCH (unless you can use LATCH in the middle in your specific car)! Wherever you can get it installed CORRECTLY is the safest, in my opinion!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@snowjewelz: Just check the 2014 CR-V manual for you and it looks like you can use the LATCH in the middle!

@Adira: oh duh, why didn't I google the car manual haha! you're the best!

Okay so I googled my manual and it says that my vehicle is equipped with LATCH but it also says "do not attempt to install a child restraint in the center position using the LATCH anchors" so I should still install it in the middle seat but use the seatbelt?
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@whenoceansrise: Yep, if you want to install in the middle (which is considered the safest position), use the seatbelt!

If you only have one seat, middle is still probably the safest place in the car, even it if means a belt install rather than LATCH. At the time C was born, we had a GMC Terrain (small'ish SUV) and it did not have middle LATCH. We used the belt and lock. I hope your hospitals have a car seat tech on staff. Ours did, and they inspected the install before we could leave.
This time we have a different car and two seats. We will be doing outside seat installs. K's infant seat should be a LATCH install (it's available). We just haven't actually got that far yet.

My car doesn't have LATCH for the middle either, so I guess the carseat is going in the middle.
@sandy: Wishing you lots of luck on Thursday. Hope everything goes smoothly.
My IG is angelicnik if anyone wants to follow me. I don't post much, but I'm sure that will change once baby is here.

Woah I am so far behind on this thread....
MY IG Name is TiffanyPPelletier_
We have so much to do in the next 4 weeks..... I am feeling very far behind and starting to panic a little about getting things done!

@Adira: What are you doing for carseats for the 2? B is still rearfacing- and we will have the infant bucket. Should I move B to the middle seat and put the infant bucket in the middle? Or put one on each side? Oye.... I hadn't even thought of this yet!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@cheert16: Xander is still rear-facing too. Currently in my car, his car seat is behind the driver's side. I'm thinking the infant bucket will go behind the passenger side. I think Xander's car seat (Graco Size4Me 70) is too wide for me to be able to fit the infant bucket seat in the middle right next to Xander's car seat.
I'm not sure what we're doing in Hubs car though! He currently has Xander's car seat in the middle because it's the only spot that wouldn't impact the front seats. I'm guessing he'll have to move it to behind the passenger side though and just move the passenger front seat forward. And then the infant seat will go behind the driver's side.

B is forward facing and we have him behind passenger seat. We put the infant seat behind the drivers seat. However, DH is thinking about moving them around because the infant seat limits the feet space for the driver. Not an issue for me but an issue for DH who is over 6 feet tall.
pomelo / 5298 posts
We will be doing the same as @BandDmommy: C is forward facing and behind the passenger in both of our cars. At least in my car, she will get moved to the drivers side and the infant seat will go to the passengers side. This is due to my husband's height (he only drives in my car and is virtually never the passenger) and our garage configuration. It's easier to get the infant seat out from the passenger side.

T is forward facing behind the passenger. I was thinking about moving things around but like being able to pass things to T while I'm driving (snack, water, book) and if he's directly behind me I won't be able to do that as easily. Super scientific reasoning, I know.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@winniebee: That's exactly why my best friend has her daughter behind the passenger seat too! I actually thought about moving Xander because of that reason, but he's still rear-facing so it would be hard to pass him things regardless of where he's sitting.
honeydew / 7283 posts
@winniebee: Totally legit reasoning! I had to move M behind my seat and it's such a pain that I can't get to her as easily. Unfortunately the infant bucket won't fit behind my seat (I'm tall and drive a sedan). Oh well.
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@BandDmommy: Oo good point. DH needs a ton of room so it probably will never make sense to put any seat behind him!
@winniebee: Oo that's a good point too, you wise 2nd time moms! Not that my infant will need me to hand her anything, lol

Btw I am so giddy b/c I did my 1st Facebook mom group transaction over the weekend! I met up with someone to buy something from her, and someone else just picked up stuff from my house today (I gave away for free). This might get addicting...

@snowjewelz: haha, yay! I'm addicted to the HB classifieds. I buy sooooooo much stuff from there!

Ahhhhh this carseat chats are making me nervous, we actually just traded in my car yesterday....lol so.... I'm hoping we can do seat in middle, we have a base to install is that the same as carseat? You still need a latch? Guess DH has another todo today
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@FaithFertility: Our infant car seat has a base that installs in the car, using either LATCH or the seat belt, and then there's the actual bucket seat that snaps in and out of the base. Is that what you're referring to? We have two bases - one for each car and then we have one bucket seat to go between the two.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@FaithFertility: Yeah, I'm assuming they're all relatively similar. You install the base and then the car seat itself just snaps in.
eggplant / 11861 posts
@Adira: I am sure, just wondering if mine has latches? We shall see!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@FaithFertility: It probably does! Though whether your car allow the LATCH to be used in the middle seat is another question. You'll have to read both manuals (multiple times probably, haha).

@winniebee: I like being able to hand things to B as well but DH's height is our issue. I think we may look into getting another car in the next year. I think I'd like something with a 3rd row option. Our BMW X3 is a little small.

Definitely had some real contractions last night and I think my mucous plug is starting to fall out in pieces. I'm not shocked since I stopped progesterone which was helping with my cervix. Needless to say, I'm starting to freak out about what to do with B. My friend that offered to help with B has become flakey in the past week. I think I may ask my dad to come up next week and help with B in case I go into labor. My dad is retired and great with B. My mom is still working so, she would come up later and then take B back to Savannah GA with them for a few weeks. I'm scared I will end up going into labor and having to take B to the hospital with me.
