Some have asked if we will still do something for Sandy and the answer is yes. I have already collected some funds from the group via Paypal We have some ideas of what we would like to do for her. If anyone is interested in contributing, shoot me an e-mail (edesmara@gmail.com) and I will bring you into the loop.

I'm being discharged today. Not sure of anyone is interested but I thought I'd share some tips from my birth experience:
    1. Don't overpack (hospital provides a ton)
    2. 2nd time labor is much easier since you know what to expect
    3. If you want epidural, ask early, there may be a line
    4. Once baby is born, use the nurses. Don't feel bad about sending baby to nursery so you can sleep
    5. If you are breast feeding, start right away. Darcy latched moments after birth
    6. If breast feeding, don't get frustrated, just keep
    Putting baby to breast..
    7. If 2nd child, make multiple backup plans.
    8. Bring snacks for you and your DH

@BandDmommy: Awesome tips!! Thank you!! And so glad things went fairly smoothly for you!

I got the results of my GBS test back and they were negative. I installed the car seat and washed all the baby clothes, so I'm almost ready!!

@BandDmommy: Yay for going home! Any tips for the meeting with older sibling?

I second underpacking. I mostly wore my hospital johnny or a nightgown (you get checked down under so much even after birth). And the baby really only needs the outfit to go home in.

Still need to wash and sterilize bottles (plan to BF but want them ready for supplementing), install car seat (DH job) frame and hang nursery prints. 35 weeks and change and really hoping I have a few more weeks. But he is now feeling SO low and suddenly feeling huge and uncomfortable. I have so much stinging and pressure on my cervix when I walk so basically I hobble or shuffle. My contractions have been manageable with rest though. Going to take it very easy still this week and then resume normal activity and hopefully get to 37!

My brother and his wife had their first baby yesterday -- a girl -- one day post due date. She's a peanut and so sweet. Now having this baby seems very, very real.

@Mrs.Lilac: good luck tomorrow. I know you are about 6 hours ahead of us and I'm not sure when your induction begins. Hope you and baby have a smooth delivery.

@BandDmommy: glad you are home. And thanks for the tips

. @Adira: such a good feeling to get stuff done. My gbs came back negative too. Still have to put the car seat in also

@winniebee: I've had tons of pelvic pressure and pain since Friday. It's slightly better today or I'm just adjusted to it... it's pretty rough though especially since I've been so mobile for most of the 3rd tri thus far...hope your baby stays put in for a few more weeks

@MamaG: good luck with your preop appt!

We went to the hospital info session/tour today, got a lot of questions answered and made everything that much more real. Still need to decide on a pediatrician and then we are all prepared for baby. Trying my best not to be impatient....

Ugh, my parents have installed a car seat into their car for when they watch Xander, but they've installed it incorrectly and I get the impression they don't really care...

  17. MrsScallop

@Adira: ugh, sorry! Cars and car seat logistics can be hard to deal with with others. I have a feeling I am going to have a lot of drama around a similar issue when my mom comes to visit after baby is born. She will likely be watching LO#1 mostly while DH and I are at the hospital with baby, but DH is determined to tell her she isn't allowed to drive LO anywhere. I am not sure how we can tell her that without her being offended though... I hope you get the car seat situation figured out!

  18. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@MrsScallop: Thanks! I think they are going to reinstall it, but my mom is definitely finding me annoying. She made a comment about it being a wonder I even made it into adulthood! Oh well! As long as she does it right! Good luck with your mom. Those kinds of conversations are tricky. I had a similar one with my in-laws when they watched Xander for a weekend. They live on a lake and I didn't want them taking him in or on the water at all, which they thought was ridiculous, but I just stressed that I wasn't comfortable with it and apologized a bunch. Hopefully you can tell your mom about not driving LO without hurting her feelings too much!

Hope everyone is doing well! Just getting adjusted to Darcy being home. Brennan is leaving today to go to savannah for a few weeks with my parents. They are taking him to Disney World, so he should have fun.

@BandDmommy: B is going to have sooooo much fun at Disney! And it'll probably be such a good opportunity for you to bond with D and get into a little routine before he comes home. Hope everything goes well! I can't wait for there to be more "December" babies and us start a baby thread!

@BandDmommy: So glad you're home! I heard an ad on the radio for your hospital yesterday and was wondering how things were going Thanks for all the tips We are still finalizing our hospital bag, but I think I'm only bringing a few things for me (like nursing bra, tank, robe, and loose pants). B should have so much fun down with his grandparents and at Disney!

@winniebee: I've been wondering how you're doing! Sorry you're having lots of pressure and stinging That sucks. Today I've been feeling some pressure and just generally really large and uncomfortable. I actually am not complaining, as I don't really mind it, but any change that happens I'm like 'oh my gosh, will I be going into labor soon?!' Ha. Silly. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you keep him cooking in there for a few more weeks!!

I did make a run to BBB and Target this weekend, so I'm feeling pretty prepared in terms of having everything we need.

    @Mrs.Lilac: thinking of you today!!

@MamaG: Good luck at the preop! I am sure you are more prepared than you think. Ahh, I can't believe you'll be meeting your little one so soon!

Girls, I'm starting to feel sooooo ready! Washed all the baby clothes from NB to 3 months. Washed the sheets and towels for my parents stay. Installed the car seat. Convinced parents to reinstall their car seat correctly (haha). AND started packing my hospital bag!! So far just packed the take-home outfits (NB and 3M, depending on how big baby is), a couple blankets, my yoga pants, nursing pads, lanolin, and my boppy. Also made a list of everything else I want to bring (camera, extra battery, phone charger, toiletries, shampoo stuff, makeup, other clothes, book, snacks, water).

I'm excited for all of us!!

@BandDmommy: oh that's nice! so you can have some bonding time w/ Darcy!

As much as I don't want her to come early, I am sooo done w/ being pregnant. I am definitely SO uncomfortable and constantly in some sort of pain... Ideally, I would love for her to come 1st week of Dec, just at 39 weeks!

Being ready wise, I feel like there's probably always more to do but we're more or less ready. DH needs to install carseat, but even if he didn't, as long as he got it done before we get discharged it's fine! And I have a pile of stuff waiting to go into the hospital bag, and esp reading about your advice to pack light, I prob don't need half the stuff I was planning on packing anyway!!

@Adira: I read your other post! I'm glad they came around!

  26. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@snowjewelz: Thanks! My mom thinks I'm being ridiculous, but she's at least doing what I want.

I totally hear you about being done! I'm only 36 weeks (tomorrow), but I'm ready for the end! Last time Xander came a week early, so I'm kind of hoping this one will do the same. I wouldn't mind an early December baby. As long as it's after Thanksgiving and after we get our tree, haha. Though my mom said she was late with her second baby, so I'm kind of expecting the same...

  27. snowjewelz

    wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts

@Adira: Really? Almost all the 2nd time moms I know so far are having theirs early, and super fast delivery!

On the contrary all the 1st time moms I know are late. At least I know I can't have her late since I'd be induced by 40 wks...

  28. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@snowjewelz: I feel like it's probably more common to be late with #1 and early with #2, but since my mom was early with her first and late with her second and I was also early with my first, I'm just assuming I'll be late with my second, just like her! But who knows!!

@FaithFertility: I want to order like 10 of those handbands hahaha! Thanks for the tip! They are at such great prices! I need to limit myself to like 2...

    @Adira: I hope he'll come just a little early

We're planning to get our Christmas tree the 1st day the Christmas tree farm is open, which is this Sat... I have never decorated this early before, seems kinda crazy haha!

Now that I'm past the 36 week mark (and 38 weeks tomorrow!) I am ready to be done also. But at the same time it does give us just a little more time to get our house finished up (and cleaned!!). And maybe some more time for me to just enjoy this tiny little human inside me.
We finally put the crib up last night so I can spend some more time getting the baby's room ready and cute. The car seat is ready to go and bag is mostly packed. I should have everything bought that I need, so anytime now.

At last weeks appt. the cervical check was optional so thinking I may not even ask for one this week (if it is again optional)? I guess it's nice to know if I am dilated anymore but he'll come when he's ready I guess. Anyone else for or against getting the cervical checks? Mine didn't hurt at all so I'm not taking that into account.

  32. josina

@BandDmommy: Thanks for the tips! Hope everything is going great at home!

  33. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@snowjewelz: That's so exciting about your tree! Are you getting a real one? We're getting ours the Sunday after Thanksgiving.

@josina: So exciting that you're 38 weeks tomorrow! And that's great you got the crib set up. I still have a bunch of empty boxes in the baby's room, but he'll be staying in a bassinet in our room for the first couple weeks, so I haven't been stressing about finishing it yet.

I didn't get a cervical check at my last appointment. My midwife offered to do it but said there wasn't really a point since I wasn't having any contractions or other symptoms I might go into labor soon. Assuming I'm feeling the same at my next appointment, I probably will just skip it. I never had any checks my last pregnancy.

  34. snowjewelz

    wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts

@josina: I'm in between 36/37 and they never offered to check and I kinda don't want to know either haha, since I know even if I'm x cm I can just stay like that and I rather not keep thinking about it!

@Adira: We got our first real tree LY and really liked it so we're going to the same place and hopefully getting a similar one!

@BandDmommy: Thank you for those tips!! So glad you are now home!

@snowjewelz: We put our Christmas tree up Saturday- haha! We don't get a real one though- ours is artificial. It did snow yesterday though so that's how I am justifying putting it up so early!

@Adira: Yeah, I'm opting out of the cervical checks too unless I start contracting. If there really isn't a point to it, then why bother?

  37. winniebee

    hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts

@Adira: My mom is lax about the car seat too and it bothers me. Half the time when she shows up to pick up Tyler the thing is not installed tightly at all. I'm not the most rigid mother in the world but I have my limits!

@theotherstark: I think the end part and waiting for labor is so fun, but I'm a weirdo. I love the anticipation and wondering "is this is?" and "when is it going to happen!?" It really could be any time so it's so exciting!

@josina: I have mixed feelings about the cervical checks. On the one hand, I like knowing where I stand, but on the other hand, the exams usually give me contractions which I would like to avoid more of until 37 weeks. But, since I've been having contractions for so long, my guess is that my doc will want to examine me when they do the GBS test (I have an appt Thurs for an ultrasound and meeting with my OB and they say I'm 36w then but my 36w appt isn't until next Tuesday so I will definitely try to push it to the later appt). I'll probably just go with whatever my OB recommends in the end.

@whenoceansrise: oh yeah, I can't believe all the snow you guys are getting! It does make it feel like Christmas already!

  39. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@whenoceansrise: I got the impression (from my midwife) that the only real point is just if you were curious if you were dilated or anything! Otherwise there's probably no point (that I'm aware of).

@winniebee: It must be a generational thing! But so annoying!!
