Ouch! Had an afternoon nap today and woke up with killer heartburn really hoping that this isn't a sign of what's to come!

@SweetMamaM: hate to tell you this, but invest in the big bottle of Tums...

Everyone feeling kicks/movement now? my LO said she heard the baby crying yesterday. Ummmmm ? Scary! Haha

@SweetMamaM: @erinpye: Seconding the suggestion for a big pack of Tums. I'm so glad we already had one. The burn is horrible!

Has anyone here had a stomach bug while pregnant? I had it a day ago and I'm still struggling to stay hydrated and get some food in. Any suggestions?

@IcebergMom: Yup! I finally have started to feel some crazy movements consistently. I'm so glad!! He is kicking right now as I type this.

@MrsKoala: I called my MW when I had a bout of food poisoning and she prescribed a pill that dissolves on the tongue (in case you puke that up too, it still enters your blood stream) and a suppository (gross but at least you wont throw it up) to stop everything bc I wasn't able to keep anything down (water, gatorade, toast, applesauce...) I think they recommend 2-4 oz of water an hour, so if you haven't had that, I would call. I might even go in for an IV depending on how dehydrated I was.

@MrsKoala: No sickness yet but hoping you feel better! Fluids, rest, and easy to digest foods are your best friends.

Also I woke up last night to a tight feeling in my belly....it hurt, but only a little. It felt just like gas pains but I never had any gas burble in my belly. It faded and then did it again a few minutes later. Any idea what that is? My first thought was Braxton hicks, but even though I wouldn't call these PAINFUL, they still were uncomfortable. I thought BH were painless?
This happened once a week ago and I thought, "Oh it's just gas" but then I never had any gassy feelings afterward. Same last night. Weird. I may just be overthinking it all though.

ETA: After reading up on BH again it does say they can be mildly uncomfortable/cramping like. Still not sure if that's what it was though. Not what I expected it to feel like.

@Danizaur: Thanks! I'm doing the rest thing even though it means that I missed a bunch of fun stuff this weekend. Trying to drink as much as possible but my stomach still feels pretty awful. Oh well. As for you, that sounds like Braxton Hicks to me. I've had it a few times on days where my water intake wasn't great and mine hurt almost like a light period cramp.

@citymouse: I've been able to keep down gingerale and gatorade so far (but couldn't on Friday) but my stomach doesn't like it. If I keep having issues, I'll call later today. It's hard not to worry even though baby is moving like crazy and seems to be okay.

@Danizaur: I've had something similar-sounding a few times now. I can breathe through them but they HURT! Mine are always on the right side, and I think it's her stretching out and pushing HARD against my placenta. It is so, so uncomfortable when it happens, woke me up one night. Meanie girl.

If the baby is super active they can cause BH contractions. According to my dr BH should be starting up anytime now. BH can be quite painful at times too! I feel them at least once a day. It's kind of nice knowing that our bodies are already working on preparing for the arrival of our little ones.

    What's everyone's next upcoming appointments?

My next one is on Tuesday. It'll just be a check up. No ultrasound.
I'll schedule my glucose test at this appointment though. Ack!

    cherry / 209 posts

@MrsKoala: Yeah I did. Make sure you drink hydralyte/gatorade/powerade because water will flush important nutrients out of your system and leave you weak.

@Danizaur: My next one is on Friday with the midwife. First appointment since my anatomy scan, second with the midwives.

@SweetMamaM: yeah heartburn is here and there for me but not too bad but the indigestion is crazy

@IcebergMom: yeah he's active in there now sometimes I can see my tummy move we he kicks especially when I drink apple juice which I crave a lot now. That's too cute your LO say she heard the baby cry even tho that is a little scary lol.

@Danizaur: my next appointment is Tuesday but only for my glucose and some blood work and then I see my MW November 7 for a checkup and an ultrasound November 12 and my MW said my appts will now be 2 weeks instead of 4 after the one on the 7th. Time is really flying

@Danizaur: my next appointment is the 4th. Then I'll get my GD test ordered and I get to do that. =/ not excited. Good thing ill have DH there with me. Last time I passed out from sugar overload.

  17. SweetMamaM

    pear / 1743 posts

    @Honeygold89: I haven't had a really bad bout since.
@Danizaur: next appointment is the 30th, just a MW appointment. It's another quiet zone here, but shouldn't complain

  18. indi

    clementine / 984 posts

@Danizaur: Next appointment isn't until November 6th, seems like forever away! They never mentioned the GD test, but I'm thinking it'll be then (although I'm the last appointment of the day, so we'll see). Just a doppler and fundal height measurement otherwise. Quick and easy, usually.

Is anyone taking any sort of classes to prep? A local friend needs to attend a Lamaze class as an observer for her DONA certification, so I may look into taking one coming up. No Bradley classes are offered around here, so we're just going to have to read a few books on that. How about any prenatal fitness courses? I don't even think prenatal yoga or pilates are offered in my town. Total bummer!

Just a question... if you only plan to pump say maximum 2-3 times a day do you reckon a manual pump would suffice or would you go electric?

Also are you all planning to get baby monitors? My friend is considering getting the one which alerts you if the baby stops breathing. I'm trying to decide if its necessary for me given that LO will be in a cot in my room for at least the first year of her life.

  20. indi

    clementine / 984 posts

@Mrs Music: For pumping after a feeding, I think a manual is fine. But other than that, I'm all for a double electric. I bought one b/c I'll be pumping while at work, but I figure the time saved is worth it.
As for a monitor, I think we'll get the motorola video monitor. Sort a nice in-between from the audio monitors to the sensor pad monitors for us.

  21. SweetMamaM

    pear / 1743 posts

@indi: we're taking an antenatal class through our local parents' centre - we tend to just have generic classes offered here that offer a range of views, rather than a particular "style".
@Mrs Music: I'd originally thought that I would get an electric pump but as I'm planning on staying at home for at least a year, I decided that a manual would do what I need to, as we plan on EBF (god willing!).
We're also planning on getting a video/audio monitor but have heard from mummy friends that the movement ones are a nightmare as soon as they start to roll off the pad. I have heard of some new ones in development that are in a soft anklet that the baby wears; that would be the only movement monitor I would consider.

@MrsKoala: Hope you're feeling better now! Nothing worse than a stomach bug, especially when pregnant!

@Mrs Music: I have a manual pump and loved it! I only pumped a few times per week as I'm a SAHM but it more than met my needs. Considering the price difference between a manual and electric here, and considering you're only planning on pumping no more than 2-3 times per day, I'd go with the manual and see how you go.

As for monitors, we have a sound only monitor and have been happy with that. DD stayed in our room for the first seven months and after that point, I was comfortable with just being able to hear her. If your LO is going to be in your room, I definitely wouldn't spend the money on a video or sensor monitor.

25w 1 day today - can't believe the third tri is coming up before long!!

  23. erinpye

    pomegranate / 3706 posts

@Mrs Music: we planned to have DD in our room for 6 months- but she was disturbed by US and in her own room at 2 months. The AngelCare monitor is wonderful for peace of mind, but I still recommend an audio and video monitor in addition. Video isn't necessary, but really nice to see what baby is actually doing as s/he gets older so you can decide whether to go in (for example: standing and looking at the door while yelling for attention vs. still laying down and fussing while finding a binky to fall back asleep).

Just my $.02, I fully planned on EBF, but my baby was tongue tied and it wasn't diagnosed until she was 6 months old. I ended up having to pump a LOT. My point is, you just never know how it's going to end up going, so my advice is get an electric pump. And pumping is already a PITA- get a double electric- WELL worth the money in time saved and output.

  24. erinpye

    pomegranate / 3706 posts

@SweetMamaM: sensor pad monitors have to have their sensitivity levels adjusted as baby gets older and moves around, but a lot of people don't know this, so they start to go off more often. A simple adjustment fixes it

  25. SweetMamaM

    pear / 1743 posts

@erinpye: fair enough. I'm still not sure that I would personally get one but each to their own

  26. erinpye

    pomegranate / 3706 posts

@SweetMamaM: our DD became a tummy sleeper quite early, and it scared me to death, so the monitor was such a help in easing my mind.

@indi: I took a child birth prep course and it scared the crap out of me haha. I'm going to be winging it this time around.

@Mrs Music: get a double electric, I pumped 2-3x a week I went back to work and it was such a pain.. The double electric will save you time.

I have a summer infant monitor and plan on getting another camera as I already have one from dd.

@indi: We started taking Bradley Classes a couple weeks ago. Im so sorry there aren't any in your area

@Mrs Music: We've registered for a Motorola video monitor. At first I thought I wanted the AngelCare, but I had heard a lot about babies rolling off and setting off the alarm. I think I mostly want the video one because I know it will be super entertaining when they can move a bit more in the crib. I just imagine seeing them sleep in funny positions, and doing funny things in the crib when they wake up.

@Danizaur: My next appointment is Nov 6 for 28 weeks (!) and the GD test but I do have an appointment to see my endocrinologist tomorrow as well.

@indi: I was thinking about Bradley classes but I'm not sure if DH is willing to spend the money on it. If not, we'll just do regular childbirth classes through the hospital.

@Mrs Music: Not that I have any experience but so many people have recommended doing a double electric pump if possible so that's what I'm planning to do. I have to call my insurance company and see which brands they cover. As for the monitor, we registered for a video monitor (Foscam) that works with wireless internet and we can check it on our phones.

@Ree723: Thanks! I'm feeling better but my stomach has been pretty queasy at strange times. Feels almost like the MS days sometimes. I'm hoping that goes away soon!

    Update!

Had our US this morning.... Cysts are gone and everything is measuring on track! I was so relieved, I cried. I am a tiny bit concerned (only a teeny bit) because I am measuring 2 weeks ahead (fundal) and this morning the baby weighed 1.8 lbs. Its been consistent, at our last appt at 20 weeks the baby was 12 oz, so it doesn't seem to be a growth spurt. I have been mindful of my sugar intake, not eating that many sweets at all and trying to be careful with fruit. I guess the baby is just going to be bigger, or I will go early? Just a little bit curious!

    ETA: I am 24w1d

Today I am 22w2d. Is anyone else's stomach starting to feel smaller? If I eat the same amount I normally do, I feel horrible! I guess I have to start eating smaller meals and less snacks.

My Bradley class starts next week.

  32. MrsKoala

    cantaloupe / 6869 posts

@citymouse: Great news about the cysts!! As for the weight, I think around 1 lbs is the right size for 24 weeks and the U/S aren't always incredibly accurate in determining the actual size. They grow a lot in the second and third tri!!

@ElbieKay: Oh yes! I cannot eat the amount of food that I used to. I find myself having a lot of snacks instead of eating meals since meals tend to make me feel overstuffed and give me heartburn!

@MrsKoala: I have been going off of this chart...

    http://www.babycenter.com/average-fetal-length-weight-chart

I still think 1/2 a lb extra is a lot, especially since my Fundal height is also measuring 2 weeks ahead! Haha!

    Hello Feb. Mamas!

I just wanted to say hello because my due date was just changed to make me a Feb. Mom! I was originally a March mom, but I have been totally stalking this thread all long because I was only a few days behind this february crew. I liked to come here to see what was just around the corner for me. But I guess I was supposed to be here all along??

@citymouse: Hmm true! 1/2 a lb does seem like a lot in terms of the baby's relative size! Interesting that you are measuring two weeks ahead! My baby is measuring one week ahead but I think my fundal height is spot on. Not sure why that is. Maybe because I'm a giant.

  37. SweetMamaM

    pear / 1743 posts

@citymouse: that is great news!!! Yay!
@ElbieKay: I don't feel like it's getting smaller but it's certainly not growing the way I expected. I think part of it is being over halfway through and getting a few comments on how little I am. I think I'm similar to @MrsKoala: though as I'm such a giant I probably look small LOL.
@math.nerd: welcome! When has your date been changed to? Are you team pink, blue or green?

I also am taking Bradley classes so I'm glad to see a few other Bradley Moms in this thread!
