Update: I'm going to be a February mama afterall! (Just...)
Turns out baby tricked all the medical professionals for months - they're a total butt head...literally. Baby is frank breech. What everyone thought was its butt was actually its head (or vice versa). The team was very relieved they'd decided to do the scan today.
So...I'm all set for a c-section tomorrow morning. Not at all what I wanted nor mentally prepared for (having been told repeatedly for months that baby was head down and ready to go). But the main thing is happy healthy baby, and healthy mama.
DH is being absolutely useless and is in total panic mode - like he just realised we 're having a baby. Quite funny. I'm very glad my parents are here so I can have a rational conversation with someone. And of course, I'm especially glad I can vent here! (Think I'm going to need it...)
See you on the other side. I'm going to be a mum in a few hours - eeeek !!!

@Mrs Music: I'm a shield user too - CJ just doesn't latch properly without it. I think it's a combination of smaller nips and bigger breasts. It makes me a little sad because I think that if we don't manage to wean off the shields, our breast-feeding relationship will be shorter than it otherwise may have been.
@OldEnglandMama: What a cheeky bubba! You must be pleased to be seeing your little one soon!

@OldEnglandMama: Good luck tomorrow! I hope your surgery goes well. Mine was an unplanned one, but I'm feeling great, so don't be too worried by horror stories. So excited for you to meet your little one!!

@OldEnglandMama: Good luck! Hang in there! Let us know how it goes! I am still waiting around so it looks like I will be the only March mom unless labor starts in the next few hours and doesn't last for too long!
I had a scan yesterday. Fluid level is fine, baby is on the upper end of normal size (8lb8oz), but he is OP so I will do what I can to encourage some spinning. I think he turned 90 degrees in the past few days because he was facing my left for several weeks prior.
Vent: I sent this information to my mother, who wrote back and asked what "sunny side up" means. I sent her an explanation and told her it increases the odds of a longer, harder labor. She replied and said, "Thank you. With the estimated size and more time to grow, he can join [our local NFL team] in a week or so." THANKS MOM. She was in labor with me for 3 hours and is convinced that I will have the same experience. That would be great, but it would certain be a stupid thing to plan on. I hate discussing my pregnancy with her.
In other news, I refused what would have been my first exam and told my doc that I think my EDD was actually 2 days early because it is based on my LMP and not the results of my ovulation test. So I think I may have bought some extra time to wait for natural labor. Fingers crossed.

@OldEnglandMama: yay hope all goes smooth for you guys. Welcome to motherhood it really is a joy!
@ElbieKay: aw I hope. Baby comes really soon

@ElbieKay: so proud of you for hanging in there! I'm sorry your mom is being frustrating- honestly, by the end of my pregnancies, I was annoyed with EVERYONE! It's normal, especially when people say annoying things or ask if baby is here yet. Just to ease your mind a little- DD 1 was sunny side up and my active labor was only 6 hours. Rainbow Sprinkles just had her second SSU baby 12 weeks ago, and pushed her out that way, about 2 hours after getting to the hospital! So it could mean a longer labor, but doesn't have to mean that. You'll do great no matter what and we can't wait to hear! Even if you end up being March, you're still one of us Feb mamas

@OldEnglandMama: Any news?!
@Honeygold89: @erinpye: Thanks!
I decided to make today my last day of work. I have been working from home for the past couple of weeks. I have now worked one week past my expected last day of work, and it's getting harder and harder to justify my existence at work. It's also hard to split my attention, and I have this 6th sense that I need to hunker down and focus on my little guy.
I need to pick some activities for this weekend! I think my daily routine going forward is going to be (1) take a long ~1.5 mile walk to the pier and back (2) pelvic tilts (3) a spinningbabies inversion (4) yoga ball bouncing and circling (5) watch a movie (6) nap. Oh, and play with the kittens.
It's so weird to contemplate 12 weeks off work. I was between jobs for 9 months in 2009 but that was a completely different mindset.

Quick update: BOY! 8lb 14oz, 21 inches, full head of hair, perfect and beautiful. (Still nameless though...)
He was jammed up under my ribs and we're both much happier now he's on the outside.
Nursing like a champ for England *and* America combined. Love the team here, everything went great, c-section was absolutely not worth worrying about. I'm already off the morphine and have been up on my feet.
We love love love him so much (of course).
@ElbieKay: Good delivery vibes and thoughts being sent your way. Hope it happens when you want it to.

@OldEnglandMama: adorable and great size! I'm so happy the experience went well for you.
We had meltdown central in our house yesterday afternoon. Too many visitors in a short space of time meant CJ got very wound up and the rest of the afternoon was beside himself. Trying to space out visitors a bit better from now on, but hoping he grows out of this phase a little, sensitive wee soul.

@SweetMamaM: overstimulation is the worst. We've had a lot of visitors and N always gets overstimulated if it's a lot of people. It leads to really messed up night sleep and lots of crying.

Question. If at 10 days old a baby's stomach is the size of their fist, then how come my Lo seems to be hungry all the time and drinks a lot?
pear / 1743 posts
@MrsKoala: CJ has been so much better since I realised what sets him off. I know some people are getting irritated that we aren't letting them visit but we really need to do what is best for the little dude.
@Mrs Music: I wonder this too! My little man has massive feeds! Where does it go?
Does anyone else have a little one who seems to get really riled up over tummy time? The only way we can get CJ to have calm tummy time is on our chests in the recliner, any other way just seems to annoy him. Any tips or tricks?

@Mrs Music: Wondering the same thing. I feel like he's always on my boob.
cherry / 209 posts
I'm pretty sure I don't have post partum because I love my baby and I'm happy most of the time. But man my parents and my DH are certainly driving me to it with all their stupid confinement rules and over worry about what I am "feeding" to our LO.
pomegranate / 3231 posts
@Mrs Music: I am planning to not invite my parents over for the first week or two while I get my bearings. They can meet him at the hospital and then I want/need space. I'm sure they will hate this but I need to preserve my sanity!

LO has gained his birth weight back plus 3 more oz! Yay! We still have a lot to work on with latching but I'm glad he's getting enough. Doctor said he's doing great too.
I've also lost 20 pounds since birth. Yay! 50 more to go.
pomegranate / 3706 posts
@Mrs Music: @Danizaur @SweetMamaM: 10 day growth spurt + cluster feeding. Totally normal. Honestly, expect to be shirtless for the first 3 months, because you'll feel like you might as well be.
papaya / 10560 posts
@erinpye: yup I second that! I always waited until DS would start crying before nursing. Now I just leave dd pretty much on my boob all the time!
pear / 1743 posts
@erinpye: and the spit up? My goodness! It's a wonder he isn't empty! He has gained 50g in the last three days though so he is definitely getting enough.
Our midwife has given us a new routine to try with our little dude after an utterly miserable night last night. Seems to be going well - pity we're going to bugger it all up tomorrow with our newborn shoot!
nectarine / 2527 posts
@SweetMamaM: omg the spit up I was worried that heou.dnt be getting enough but the weight checks at the doctor visits says other wise.
pear / 1531 posts
@ElbieKay: thinking of you. Hope you are hanging in there.
Things are good here. LO is nearly six weeks old (three weeks age adjusted). He is four pounds heavier than his birthweight! He eats all the time. Still wakes up three times a night to feed. I keep telling myself that all the hard stuff is temporary but then get sad the good stuff is too!
cherry / 209 posts
@erinpye: I think I'm having issues with oversupply. LO is choking when attaching and then reattaching herself constantly. She's also hiccuping and spitting up heaps which I read could be a sign of that. Also not settling. And constantly wanting to feed. Is anyone else experiencing this?
pomegranate / 3706 posts
@Mrs Music: check out kellymom.com. Could be overactive letdown? Try removing her when you first let down, and then help her reattach once you stop forcefully spraying.
papaya / 10560 posts
@Mrs Music: yup I second @erinpye. I have over active let down and pump a little first otherwise she starts to choke.
nectarine / 2527 posts
@Mrs Music: my LO doesn't choke or anything but he won't stay settled when he's feeding he moves his arms and legs like crazy and fuss a little and unattach himself a few time even when he has a good latch. I say I'll ask my doctor about what it could be at our next appt.
cherry / 209 posts
@erinpye: @matador84: @Honeygold89: thanks. I did look at kellymom and it's definitely oversupply. The green poo she did this morning confirms it. *sigh* one breastfeeding issue after another...
pomegranate / 3706 posts
@Mrs Music: green poo could also just mean LO is getting too much foremilk. About how long do you let her nurse a side? You should keep her on one side until she stops sucking, or pulls off. Sometimes that means a whole feeding will just be one side- and that's ok.
pomegranate / 3706 posts
@Honeygold89: probably has a burp. Both my babies do that on and off thing when they have a burp. Or also struggling with letdown. Make sure baby's chin is pressed into your breast, and the nose is tipped back a little.
